  • How to get "all" (or the MAIN/LAUNCHER) android intent

    - by Christoph Jerolimov
Hey, i want receive all start app intents (i think MAIN/LAUNCHER, see below) to log how often i used the application. So i do not want create an activity... I tried several receiver blocks, but for now nothing works: with, without priority, only the action, both, only the category and so on.. <receiver android:name=".Receiver" android:enabled="true" android:process=".e"> <intent-filter priority="100000" android:priority="100000"> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </receiver> Have anyone an idea? Thanks

  • MovieViewControl unable to become a receiver during Broadcast

    - by Paulina D
    Hi! I'm currently trying to catch a broadcast message with the MovieViewControl class, already added the filter in the Manifest //In MovieViewControl private static final String SERVICECMD = "com.android.music.musicservicecommand"; private static final String CMDNAME = "command"; private static final String CMDPAUSE = "pause"; @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { String intentAction = intent.getAction(); if (AudioManager.ACTION_AUDIO_BECOMING_NOISY.equals(intentAction)) { Intent i = new Intent(intent.ACTION_MAIN); i.setAction(SERVICECMD); i.putExtra(CMDNAME, CMDPAUSE); mVideoView.pause(); context.startActivity(i); } } but when I do my trial, I get this (very) huge exception: W/dalvikvm( 1630): threadid=3: thread exiting with uncaught exception (group=0x4001b1b8) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): Uncaught handler: thread main exiting due to uncaught exception E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to instantiate receiver com.android.gallery.MovieViewControl: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.android.gallery.MovieViewControl in loader dalvik.system.PathClassLoader@438ff048 E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleReceiver(ActivityThread.java:2616) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at android.app.ActivityThread.access$3100(ActivityThread.java:119) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at android.app.ActivityThread$H.handleMessage(ActivityThread.java:1913) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4363) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:860) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:618) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.android.gallery.MovieViewControl in loader dalvik.system.PathClassLoader@438ff048 E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at dalvik.system.PathClassLoader.findClass(PathClassLoader.java:243) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:573) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:532) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleReceiver(ActivityThread.java:2609) E/AndroidRuntime( 1630): ... 10 more Any hints on what might I be missing?   • Android - Having a service run every day at 4AM

    - by Bara
Hello everyone, I would like to know the best practices for running a Service every day at 4AM. The way I think I should be doing it is to create a new repeating alarm using AlarmManager and having it run the service at 4AM. Problem is, I'm not sure where to put the code to set the alarm. Do I do it in my main activity as one of the first tasks in the OnCreate method? Do I do some funky stuff with BroadcastReceivers and intents? What happens when a user updates my app? What happens when a user restarts? Any help with these questions would be much appreciated :) Sample code would be helpful as well! Bara

  • Multiple Broadcast Messages with Less Data or Less Broadcast Messages with More Data?

    - by niko
Hi, I am developing an application which is communicating with the server. Tha application can perform log-in and get different parameters from server. The application consists of a RESTful client (custom class for making requests), Communication Service (the service which runs in the background) and the main activity. For now I created multiple broadcast messages and multiple broadcast receivers in the main activity so when the application performs login operation a receiver (loginBroadcastReceiver) in the main activity receives a message and when another parameter is received from the server different message is broadcasted and another receiver handles the message. This way however the application performance is poor but I am not sure whether it is due to multiple broadcast receivers. Does anyone know what is the best way to exchange data between service and main activity - is it better to create a single broadcast receiver and retrieve all parameters from message or is it better to initialize multiple broadcast receivers for multiple parameters? I would appreciate if you could provide any useful resource about the topic because I'm writing the thesis and it would be good if the solution could be explained.

  • Logging broadcast Intents and manually trigger them (Android)

    - by poeschlorn
Hey guys, during my development in android I've missed a function that can log every broadcast intent that occur. Sometimes it had been very useful to have a function like that... I'm also wondering how to trigger those broadcast intents manually on the emulator. Is there an entire overview of available broadcast intents? Would be great if someone would have some answers, greets, poeschlorn

  • Android Add Icon to homescreen to set member variable in broadcast receiver

    - by JonF
I would like to add some sort of icon that a user can press in order to flip a variable in a broadcast receiver my app uses. Basically I just can a icon that they can press which will flip the value of a boolean in the broadcast receiver, and change the icon to indicate something happened. I think I need to do something with a widget? Could anyone point me in the direction of some tutorial I could check out?

  • Trying to start a service on boot on Android

    - by Alex
I've been trying to start a service when a device boots up on android, but I cannot get it to work. I've looked a number of links online but none of the code is working. Am I forgetting something? This is my code. Manifest <receiver android:name=".StartServiceAtBootReceiver" android:enabled="true" android:exported="false" android:label="StartServiceAtBootReceiver"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action._BOOT_COMPLETED"/> </intent-filter> </receiver> <service android:enabled="true" android:name="com.test.RunService"/> Receiver OnReceive public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { if("android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED".equals(intent.getAction())) { Intent serviceLauncher = new Intent(context, RunService.class); context.startService(serviceLauncher); Log.v("TEST", "Service loaded at start"); } } Thanks,

  • Detect outgoing calls and problem with a real device

    - by Tobia Loschiavo
Hi, I have a strange problem. To detect outgoing calls I have registered a broadcast receiver for android.intent.action.PHONE_STATE. When the state becomes OFFHOOK, then a conversation is started. It seems working on emulator: the debugger in fact reaches some code while it doesn't work on real device (Acer Liquid). Is it possible? Which is a way to detect outgoing calls? Thanks

  • Force Tab Activity creation?

    - by Daniel
I have a TabHost and several tabs added to it. Problem: The activities on these tabs are not created until the tab is pressed. My tabhost is broadcasting intents but my broadcast receivers are not registered until onCreate in my tab activities is called. Is there any way to force activity creation? Maybe my tabhost can call setCurrentTab and switch back to main tab(0), but is that really the best option available?

  • How to set an alarm to fire properly at fixed time?

    - by Pentium10
I have this code Calendar c = new GregorianCalendar(); c.add(Calendar.DAY_OF_YEAR, 1); c.set(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY, 23); c.set(Calendar.MINUTE, 22); c.set(Calendar.SECOND, 0); c.set(Calendar.MILLISECOND, 0); // We want the alarm to go off 30 seconds from now. long firstTime = SystemClock.elapsedRealtime(); firstTime += 30*1000; long a=c.getTimeInMillis(); // Schedule the alarm! AlarmManager am = (AlarmManager)ctx.getSystemService(Context.ALARM_SERVICE); am.setRepeating(AlarmManager.ELAPSED_REALTIME_WAKEUP, c.getTimeInMillis(), 1*60*60*1000, sender); It is not executed at 23:22h What I am doing wrong? I noticed firstTime and c.getTimeInMillis() differs a lot in size and length. When I use firstTime, so when set to 30 seconds, the alarm is executed well.

  • How do I overwrite the functionality of the home button?

    - by Alex
Essentially, I just want to change the home button from just hiding my app to killing the activity that is on the screen. I thought about writing a broadcast receiver that kills the activity, but I'm not sure how to kill the activity from the receiver. How do I change the functionality of the home button to "finish" the specific activity? Thanks

  • Send a public broadcast from an AppWidget in Android

    - by greve
I have a widget for a music player and want to be able to send broadcasts when pushing the different buttons. What I want to do is when a button is pushed, the widget sends a public broadcast to another BroadcastReceiver so it can handle the different actions. In my activity class with the BroadcastReceiver: private BroadcastReceiver broadcastReceiver = new BroadcastReceiver() { @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { String action = intent.getAction(); if (action.equals(Constants.ACTION_NEXT)) { Log.d("RECEIVER", "ACTION_NEXT"); } } }; @Override protected void onStart() { super.onStart(); IntentFilter filter = new IntentFilter(); //Widget actions filter.addAction(Constants.ACTION_NEXT); registerReceiver(broadcastReceiver, new IntentFilter(filter)); } In my Widget: public void onUpdate(Context context, AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager, int[] appWidgetIds) { RemoteViews views = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.widget); PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(context, 0, new Intent(Constants.ACTION_NEXT), 0); views.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.WidgetNextButton, pendingIntent); appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(appWidgetId, views); } Any help or other solutions are very much appreciated!

  • App will not launch from drawer after phone is removed from car dock

    - by BigFwoosh
I am creating a replacement Car Home app for Android 2.0+ devices. The app needs to launch when the phone is inserted into the car dock, as well as terminate when it is removed from the dock. It also needs to be able to be launched from the app drawer. I'm having a problem right now where once the phone is inserted and removed from the dock, I can no longer launch the app from the app drawer because every time I launch the app my BroadcastReceiver picks up a DOCK_EVENT action for some reason. I created a test project that only registers my BroadcastReceiver, and the same thing happens. Here's the code for the BroadcastReceiver: public class CarDockBroadcastReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver { /** * @see android.content.BroadcastReceiver#onReceive(Context,Intent) */ @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { // TODO Put your code here if(intent.getExtras().containsKey("android.intent.extra.DOCK_STATE")){ int state = intent.getExtras().getInt("android.intent.extra.DOCK_STATE",1); if(state == 0){ Log.i("Dock", "Removed from dock!"); ((Activity)context).finish(); } } } } My main Activity is as follows: public class MainActivity extends Activity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ CarDockBroadcastReceiver receiver; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); IntentFilter filter = new IntentFilter("android.intent.action.DOCK_EVENT"); receiver = new CarDockBroadcastReceiver(); registerReceiver(receiver, filter); } @Override protected void onDestroy() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub unregisterReceiver(receiver); super.onDestroy(); } } The main Activity has an intent filter for action.MAIN, category.LAUNCHER, category.DEFAULT, and category.CAR_DOCK. Any ideas on why this is happening?

  • Android design advice - services & broadcast receivers

    - by basudz
I'm in the process of learning the Android SDK and creating some projects to get a grasp on the system. The current project I'm working with works just fine but I'd like to get some advice about other ways I can go about designing it. Here's what it needs to do. When a text message is received from a specific number, it should fire off a toast message that repeats at a certain interval for a specific duration. To make this work, I created an SMS BroadcastReceiver and checked the incoming messages for the number I'm looking for. If found, an IntentService would be started that would pull out the interval and duration from saved shared prefs. The IntentService would then fire off a broadcast. The BroadcastReceiver for this would catch it and use the AlarmManager to handle the toast message repetitions. This all works just fine, but I'm wondering if there's a cleaner or more efficient way of going about doing this? Any suggestions or advice?

  • Service with intents not working. Help needed

    - by tristan202
    I need help in making my click intents work. I used to have them in my appwidgetprovider, but decided to move them into a service, but I am having trouble getting it to work. Below is the entire code from my intentservice: public class IntentService extends Service { static final String ACTION_UPDATE = "android.tristan.widget.digiclock.action.UPDATE_2"; private final static IntentFilter sIntentFilter; public int layoutID = R.layout.clock; int appWidgetIds = 0; static { sIntentFilter = new IntentFilter(); } @Override public IBinder onBind(Intent intent) { return null; } @Override public void onStart(Intent intent, int startId) { super.onStart(intent, startId); } @Override public void onCreate() { super.onCreate(); registerReceiver(onClickTop, sIntentFilter); registerReceiver(onClickBottom, sIntentFilter); Log.d("DigiClock IntentService", "IntentService Started."); } @Override public void onDestroy() { super.onDestroy(); unregisterReceiver(onClickTop); unregisterReceiver(onClickBottom); } private final BroadcastReceiver onClickTop = new BroadcastReceiver() { @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { if(intent.getAction().equals("android.tristan.widget.digiclock.CLICK")) { PackageManager packageManager = context.getPackageManager(); Intent alarmClockIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MAIN).addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_LAUNCHER); String clockImpls[][] = { {"HTC Alarm Clock", "com.htc.android.worldclock", "com.htc.android.worldclock.WorldClockTabControl" }, {"Standar Alarm Clock", "com.android.deskclock", "com.android.deskclock.AlarmClock"}, {"Froyo Nexus Alarm Clock", "com.google.android.deskclock", "com.android.deskclock.DeskClock"}, {"Moto Blur Alarm Clock", "com.motorola.blur.alarmclock", "com.motorola.blur.alarmclock.AlarmClock"} }; boolean foundClockImpl = false; for(int i=0; i<clockImpls.length; i++) { String vendor = clockImpls[i][0]; String packageName = clockImpls[i][1]; String className = clockImpls[i][2]; try { ComponentName cn = new ComponentName(packageName, className); ActivityInfo aInfo = packageManager.getActivityInfo(cn, PackageManager.GET_META_DATA); alarmClockIntent.setComponent(cn); foundClockImpl = true; } catch (NameNotFoundException e) { Log.d("Error, ", vendor + " does not exist"); } } if (foundClockImpl) { Vibrator vibrator = (Vibrator) context.getSystemService(Context.VIBRATOR_SERVICE); vibrator.vibrate(50); final RemoteViews views = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), layoutID); views.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.TopRow, PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0, new Intent(context, DigiClock.class).setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK), PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT)); AppWidgetManager.getInstance(context).updateAppWidget(intent.getIntArrayExtra(AppWidgetManager.EXTRA_APPWIDGET_IDS), views); alarmClockIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); context.startActivity(alarmClockIntent); } } } }; private final BroadcastReceiver onClickBottom = new BroadcastReceiver() { @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { if(intent.getAction().equals("android.tristan.widget.digiclock.CLICK_2")) { PackageManager calendarManager = context.getPackageManager(); Intent calendarIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MAIN).addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_LAUNCHER); String calendarImpls[][] = { {"HTC Calendar", "com.htc.calendar", "com.htc.calendar.LaunchActivity" }, {"Standard Calendar", "com.android.calendar", "com.android.calendar.LaunchActivity"}, {"Moto Blur Calendar", "com.motorola.blur.calendar", "com.motorola.blur.calendar.LaunchActivity"} }; boolean foundCalendarImpl = false; for(int i=0; i<calendarImpls.length; i++) { String vendor = calendarImpls[i][0]; String packageName = calendarImpls[i][1]; String className = calendarImpls[i][2]; try { ComponentName cn = new ComponentName(packageName, className); ActivityInfo aInfo = calendarManager.getActivityInfo(cn, PackageManager.GET_META_DATA); calendarIntent.setComponent(cn); foundCalendarImpl = true; } catch (NameNotFoundException e) { Log.d("Error, ", vendor + " does not exist"); } } if (foundCalendarImpl) { Vibrator vibrator = (Vibrator) context.getSystemService(Context.VIBRATOR_SERVICE); vibrator.vibrate(50); final RemoteViews views2 = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), layoutID); views2.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.BottomRow, PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0, new Intent(context, DigiClock.class).setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK), PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT)); AppWidgetManager.getInstance(context).updateAppWidget(intent.getIntArrayExtra(AppWidgetManager.EXTRA_APPWIDGET_IDS), views2); calendarIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); context.startActivity(calendarIntent); } } }; }; ;}; What am I doing wrong here?

  • How to establish a two-way communication between Activity and Service in different process?

    - by steff
Hi everyone, I'm working on establishing a two-way communication between an Activity and a Service which runs in a different process. Querying the process from the Activity is no big deal. But I want the process to notify the Activity on events. The idea behind it is this: the service runs independently from the actual app. It queries a webserver periodically. If a new task is found on the webserver the process should notify the activity. I found this thread over at AndDev.org but it doesn't seem to work for me. I've been messing around with BroadcastReceiver. I've implemented an interface which should notify the Activity but the problem is that the listener is always null since the Broadcast from the process is done via Intent, hence the class that extends BroadcastReceiver will be newly instantiated. How can I establish a 2-way communication? This has to be possible. Thanks for any help, steff

  • Disable update on battery percentage

    - by Kris B
I have a service that performs background updates. I want to give the user the the option to disable the updates when their battery percentage reaches a certain level. From my research, I'm going to use a receiver in the onCreate method of my Service class, eg: public class MainService extends Service { @Override public void onCreate() { this.registerReceiver(this.BatInfoReceiver, new IntentFilter(Intent.ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED)); } private BroadcastReceiver BatInfoReceiver = new BroadcastReceiver(){ @Override public void onReceive(Context arg0, Intent intent) { int level = intent.getIntExtra("level", 0); } }; } I'm assuming the best practice is to leave the service running and check the battery level in the service and not perform the CPU intensive code based on the percentage? I don't actually stop the service itself and start it up again, based on the battery percentage?

  • Where should I put zoomIn in my MapActivity?

    - by Johny
I'm writing an Android app, and I'd like to zoomIn as soon as the map has been loaded. I get the following error: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: width and height must be > 0 This MapActivity - width and height must be > 0 question suggests the problem is the zoomIn() method is in the onCreate() method. But I get same error when I put it in the onResume() method. I've been searching for hours and I can't find anything about it at http://developer.android.com or anywhere else... Also I can't find a way to get the time point the map has been loaded. A "MapLoadedListener" or something like that... • android : bluetooth support

    - by Puneet kaur
i have coded for bluetooth via defining a user task ,which will search the devices in background and set the list on foreground after finishing the search . but sometimes i am getting the data in adapter as "nodevice" "device1" "device2" ...... the problem here is why it is always filling the no device in the list and after that fill the device in list .. private BroadcastReceiver mBlueToothInfoDiscoveryListener = new BroadcastReceiver() { /** * This is an overridden function called by the framework whenever there * is some broadcast message for Bluetooth info discovery listener */ @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { String action = intent.getAction(); // When discovery finds a device if (BluetoothDevice.ACTION_FOUND.equals(action)) { // Get the BluetoothDevice object from the Intent BluetoothDevice device = intent.getParcelableExtra(BluetoothDevice.EXTRA_DEVICE); // If it's already paired, skip it, because it's been listed // already if (device.getBondState() != BluetoothDevice.BOND_BONDED) { mNewBtDevicesArrayAdapter.add(device.getName() + "\n" + device.getAddress()); } // When discovery is finished, change the Activity title } else if (BluetoothAdapter.ACTION_DISCOVERY_FINISHED.equals(action)) { setProgressBarIndeterminateVisibility(false); setTitle("device list"); if (mNewBtDevicesArrayAdapter.getCount() == 0) { String noDevices = "No devices found"; mNewBtDevicesArrayAdapter.add(noDevices); } } } }; but here why it is sometimes going into else option on start and filling the list with no device then to if part again ... when devices are already on .
