• Unable to ssh out anywhere - ssh_exchange_identification

  I have a setup where I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 as a VirtualBox guest under a Windows 7 host, behind a restrictive corporate firewall. I have set up NAT from the host port 22 to Ubuntu's port 22; IT inform me that they have opened port 22 outbound for the host machine's IP address. I have run ssh-keygen -t rsa, and am trying to test the setup by connecting to github and another known ssh server. In both cases the connect is refused with ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host. Full -vvv log is below. Is this possibly still due to the corporate firewall? If so, what else might I need to request from them? • Converting a bunch of MP3s to mono?

  I have a bunch of stereo MP3s I'd like to convert to mono. What is the best way to do this? I would prefer something that would let be batch process them. I want to keep the quality as close to the original as possible. My files are also in different bitrates, so I don't want to make all files 320kpbs when some are only 128. Also, is there any quick way to see which files are stereo out of my entire library?

• Editing tags in bunch of MP3 files?

  I have a bunch of files whose filename looks like "<Track> - <Title> - <Artist>.mp3". I'd like to rewrite their MP3 Title tag to be "<Track> - <Title>.mp3" so that each song is displayed correctly on my elcheapo MP3 player. Since I rarely edit MP3 files anyway, MP3 Tag Tools 1.2 Build 008 from 2003 was good enough, but I can't figure out how to do this with this application. I just tried MP3Tag 2.46, but couldn't figure out if it can do this (created a new Action, to no avail). I also tried TagScanner 5.1.558, without success. Does someone know of a good, free Windows application that can do this? Thank you.

• Using avconv (ffmpeg) to concatenate a bunch of .bmps into a mkv/avi video

  Hoi, Trying to figure out how to get avconv to concatenate a bunch of .bmps together into a video file. Here's what I've got so far: avconv -f image2 -i Capture/%d.bmp -vcodec mpeg4 -r 24 -b:v 20M Capture.mkv While this does work, the quality is terrible - there are tons of artifacts that are visible, the colours are distorted and everything is blurred. I've trawled through the documentation for avconv and ffmpeg, but can't find anything that increases the quality. Any ideas as to how I can get the quality as close to the original bmps as possible? • Why won't ruby recognize Haml under ubuntu64 while using jekyll static blog generator?

  I have been trying, quite unsuccessfully, to run henrik's fork of the jekyll static blog generator on Ubuntu 64-bit. I just can't seem to figure this out and I've tried a bunch of different things. • Import a bunch of certificates into the correct certificate store using a script

  I have a collection of certificates in a p7b file, and I would like to automatically import each certificate into the correct store depending on the certificate template. What is the best way to do this with a script? I tried using certutil -addstore root Certificate.p7b, and that will correctly place all of the root CAs into the root store, but it returns an error if it encounters any other type of certificate. I'm willing to use batch scripts, vbscript or powershell to accomplish this task. Thanks!

• Have powershell zip the contents of a bunch of folders, individual zip for each folder

  Recently, I asked how to do this with a .bat file and an answer was provided. for /D %%d in (*.*) do "C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z\7za.exe" a -tzip %%d.zip %%d However, this proved useful only for folders that have no spaces in their name. The reason being that batch will do the following: if the folder name is "jef's vacation pics", the variables will be: %%d = jef's %%e = vacation %%f = pics And then it tries to pass only %%d to the 7-zip program, which will not find such a folder and therefor will not create a zip file. I've tried looking up some tutorials, documentation sites and such, but I haven't been able to come up with an answer. There may be an answer, but I want to take this opportunity to try my hand at powershell. I was thinking that a function with 1 argument, that being the parent-folder of the sub-folders that need to be zipped, would be the best approach. • SBS 2003 no network connection and acting strangely a bunch of Event ID 13568

  I've got an SBS 2003 Standard server and it was running fine until earlier today when it was rebooted, after the reboot it has no network connection, I can't seem to right click on a lot of stuff and get dialog boxes, I can't launch IE, it's acting extremely strange. We are dead in the water at this point. I checked the event logs and noticed we're getting a ton of Event ID's 13568. I thought it was a Journal Wrap error, and while I was going to try to fix it using this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290762 I can't even do that because after I set the D4 value, then went to restart NTFRS from command prompt and I got the following: System Error 1059 has occurred. Circular service dependency was specified. That is where I'm at and haven't been able to figure anything else out. • Driverpack Solution makes a whole bunch of programs

  I am using Driver Pack solution 12.3 to update my drivers. I used it and installed 55 drivers. I noticed that there are now several dozen new entries in add/remove programs under the name Windows Driver Package - Intel hdc, Windows Driver Package - Intel System, and Windows Driver Package - Intel USB with the driverpack solution logo next to them. When I hit uninstall for any of these, it says all devices using this driver will be removed, and I am scared of uninstalling anything I do not know about. I have no system restore points before I updated my driver. Will these extra driver packages slow down my computer or take up extra disk space? Can I uninstall them safely? I am using Windows 8, so refreshing the computer is an option.

• Computer becomes very slow (permanently) after running a bunch of apps

  Hello there, My computer with Windows XP installed becomes very slow after I ran some heavy tasks at a time. (play a full 3D online game while extracting a 4GB RAR archive) It freezes for about 200~500ms every few seconds, and this always happens if I do heavy tasks at once in my computer (for example, installing a program while playing games), and the lag remains permanently (even a reboot won't make it better) unless I repair-install the Windows. Since I have a low-end computer: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00 GHz, 512 MB of RAM ATI RADEON 9550 AGP 256 MB And the only way I used everytime to fix this problem is by repair-installing my Windows XP. So that I won't lose any data or installed programs. But I believe there's a better and faster way to fix this without repair-installing the Windows. Any idea?

• Installed Bunch of New Fonts on Windows 7 - Now None Show Up and System Lags

  So I went to install about 5,000 fonts on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. It was slow to install them, and I had to leave. I came back and my PC was shut down, and I had to go through the Windows recovery BS when I powered it on. Now my computer runs EXTREMELY slow and any program that has a font menu locks up my whole machine (nothing in Microsoft Office works). When I go to "Fonts" in the control panel, it says 0 items. I went through all of the font settings trying to get them to appear. Nothing helps. I tried to bring up the Character Map and that froze up my machine too. How can I fix this? If I do not get this issue resolved soon, I am wiping this drive and going back to XP (and probably never purchasing another version of Windows again). I never had any issues with XP and have had nothing but performance problems when switching to Windows 7. My quad-core intel extreme with 8GB of RAM should never flinch with the kind of work that I do, and something simple like playing a song off an external HD takes up to five seconds on Windows 7. Unbelievable that I had to pay for this crap!

• Terminal is not letting me make commands unless I hit enter a bunch of times

  Whenever I open terminal it normally allows me to immediately begin making commands. Only earlier today I did the setup for github here https://help.github.com/articles/set-up-git And then all of a sudden the thing where I give terminal commands won't allow me to give it commands unless I hit enter a few times. See the big space? That's because it simply will never show the ~ git: thing unless I hit enter 3-4 times. Also, it never used to say ~ git: before I did the git setup. I'm not sure what I changed. I've checked the zshrc file and commented everything out to find the line causing the problem.   I have a bunch of records I want to move to another database and I just want to create a bunch of inserts that I can copy and paste. I've seen someone do this before but I can't figure it out. I'm not getting the escapes right. It's something like this where 'Code', 'Description' and 'Absent' are the columns I want from the table.   I need to execute a bunch of asynchronous methods (client SQLite database), and call only one final callback. Of course, the ugly way is: execAll : function(callBack) { asynch1(function() { asynch2(function() { ... asynchN(function() { callBack(); }) }) }); } But I know there are better ways to do it. Intuitively I would detect when all call back has been called with a counter to call the final callback. • Clean way to display/hide a bunch of buttons based on a ComboBox selection

  I'm writing a standalone application in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2005. I want to display/hide a bunch of Buttons based on the selected value of a ComboBox. Each selection would have a different set of Buttons to display, and I'd like to have them arranged in a nice grid. Driving a TabControl with the ComboBox value would be the kind of behavior I want, but I don't want it to look like a TabControl to the user because it might be confusing. Is there a way to do this? Basically, I'd like Selection1 of the ComboBox to show Buttons 1-4, Selection2 to show Buttons 5-11, Selection3 to show (maybe) Buttons 1, 3, 5, 6, and 8, etc., have them arranged nicely, and have the GUI show only the ComboBox and the buttons.   Hello I'm getting a bunch of weird html output in users messages e.g. \u0644\u064a\u0646\u0643 \u0627\u0644 \u0639\u0627\u0645\u0644 I assume their aribic characters decoded? How can I perhaps preg replace all these codes with something a little more useful? because search results are filled with pages and pages of this stuff Perhaps even display them as they're supposed to be?   Guys, I have a set of tables (say Account, Customer) in a schema (say dbo) and I have some other tables (say Order, OrderItem) in another schema (say inventory). There's a relationship between the Order table and the Customer table. I want to delete all the relationships between the tables in the first schema (dbo) and the tables in the second schema (inventory), without deleting the relationships between tables inside the same schema. Is that possible? Any help appreciated.

  two questions: how do i compile a .java file that isn't on my username (like something in documents or some other sub folder) if i have multiple .java files and i compile one that contains method that are contained in the others does the compiler compile those other files. heres an example of the second question. example1.java: class example1 { main () { example2.method () } } example2.java: class example2 { method () } When i compile example1.java will example2.java also be compiled?
