  The HIMSS Conference is an extremely important industry trade show put on by The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. It's being held in Florida starting this Sunday, February 20th. Their slogan, "Linking people, potential, and progress" could be true of Oracle desktop virtualization as well! The Oracle desktop virtualization group has worked very closely with the Oracle healthcare business unit to have a large presence at this show, and I wanted to tell you a bit about what we're doing: - All Oracle demos are being done on Sun Ray Clients That's right, every demo pod in the large Oracle booth will have a Sun Ray Client with each demo tied to a smart card. I tried to reset the device and it has been stuck on this icon for quite a while now. It's a web app that uses a custom CMS with user types, followers system, search forms, blogs, social integration. It will take about 3 months to finish, according to a roadmap I make (based on current development stage) and about a month after that for bug fixing and testing. So I have to tell them a price. • My Laptop Battery Does Not Charge

  I am using a HP Pavilion and Ubuntu 11.10. I have been using Ubuntu for about a year. Recently (in Nov or there about), I noticed my battery never charges fully no matter how long it has been plugged in. I thought it was a problem with the power pack. However, after changing it, the problem is still persisting. I upgraded to 11.10 form 11.04 at about the same time so I do not know if this is a software or hardware issue. How do I solve this? • Freezing a dead(ish) laptop battery...

  I have a Compaq CQ50-215CA laptop with a battery that does not properly hold charge. Vista's battery meter does not read the remaining charge left; the laptop will randomly shut down at ~60% and sometimes the meter goes back up to 100% before shutting down without warning. So, does freezing a dead-ish laptop battery somehow repair it and allow it to hold charge again?

• Laptop battery holds charge, but won't charge any more.

  Ok, I'm sure I will need to replace either my battery or my AC adapter, but would rather not buy one if the other is the problem. My problem is. I have a Sager laptop that gets quite a bit of use. The charging has always been a little bit odd. If I was in the process of using it, it would charge just fine and stay On AC power. If I left it alone, however(power settings to ONLY turn off the monitor) in either Ubuntu or Windows 7 it decides that it didn't want to use AC power anymore and would just start draining the battery until it died. Now, suddenly, it won't charge at all. The capacity was great up to this point which happened in an instant. It will recognize the battery but won't see the AC power if plugged in while the battery is in. I can power up the laptop without the battery and it works fine. If I plug in the battery while powered up it will claim it's charging it, but it stays at the same percentage. If I unplug the power, it will switch over to Battery fine, but I have to power down and unplug the battery to get it back on AC power. I've had dying/dead batteries before but they typically won't hold a full charge anymore but it still winds up to 100% then drops quickly when unplugged. This seems more like a chip problem in the battery to me, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

• PC does not recognize XBox 360 controller connected through Play & Charge Kit

  I wanted to hook up my wireless XBox 360 controller to my PC running windows 7. I'm trying to use the Play & Charge kit since I already had that laying around. I plugged it in and Windows recognize it and installed it. It registers in Device Manager as "Xbox 360 Wireless Controller via Play & Charge Kit". The controller also has the 1st quadrant lit. However, I can't seem to make this work with any games. I installed the "Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories" kit from MS website, and I run the Accessories Status app and it doesn't recognize that the controller is connected. Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong out there?

• Software to hold battery at 50% charge level

  My Sony Vaio laptop has a built-in program called "Sony Battery Care" which provides a functionality to hold battery at certain levels of charge while operating. For example, I've set it to 50% and the battery is always kept at that level while on AC power. This mode prevents battery degradation and is more effective as I usually use my laptop with AC power. I'm looking for a similar program to use with other laptops with Windows OS; preferably a free one.

• Commit charge peak higher than system limit

  We are seeing some very strange behaviour on our servers and google didn't turn up anything usefull, so I'm tossing it out here. A standard server is configured with 4GB Ram, 2 4GB pagefiles and running windows server 2003. The servers are running 50-120 vb6/.net applications which normally consume no more than 100mb of memory, but will occasionally run up to 300 mb. The issue with a single process spending way too much memory is being traced down somewhere else, but the thing that is baffling us is that the reported peak charge is vastly higher than what we have available. As the image above shows, we are getting reported peaks that are way higher than what the system is actually capable of delivering. This number has been seen as high as 29GB, which makes no sense at all for a system with a limit of 12GB. Does anyone have an idea what is going on?

• Battery won't charge and BSOD: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

  I have a Dell Vostro 1510 running Windows 7. Today when I pulled my machine out of it's bag and plugged it in, the little battery light on the side blinked constantly instead of staying solid, and Windows showed a message that the battery was not charging. The battery is 3.5 years old, but it can still hold the machine in standby overnight, so I don't know why it won't charge anymore. After I have had the machine on for a while (20 minutes the first time, 40 minutes the second time), it shows a blue screen of death with the message DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE and reboots. I can deal with the battery being dead, but not with blue screens of death. Does anyone know how to fix it? Edit: Potentially relevant, this started happening after an OS update was automatically installed on Friday and Windows started nagging to reboot. The first BSOD was before the reboot; the update made a lot of registry changes when the machine came up, and the second BSOD was 40 minutes later.
