Huge congratulations to Gavin who became the 6th person in the WORLD outside Microsoft to qualify as a Microsoft Certified Architect in SQL Server today. Gavin’s worked so hard for this since the start of the year and all that work culminated in a grilling 4 hour review board during the PASS summit in Seattle less than 2 weeks ago -- he received his official results last night. To put things into perspective, there are only 25 people on the planet that are qualified to this level in SQL Server; only 6 of those don’t work for Microsoft; and 2 of those work for Coeo. How to change default boot order ubuntu 10.04 ?

Hello, How can I change default boot order in Ubuntu 10.04 from Ubuntu to Windows7? However, I already checked sudo gedit /etc/default/grub and modify the grub file to be GRUB_DEFAULT=4 and update the grup sudo update-grub I even install graph software to re order the book sudo startupmanager But still after restart the default choose for boot is Ubuntu ... Cannot locate packages for Citrix install

I'm trying to get a Citrix receiver installed on to Ubuntu 14.04 (64 bit) following Ubuntu's docs. The first line of instructions say to get these required packages: sudo apt-get install libmotif4:i386 nspluginwrapper lib32z1 libc6-i386 libxp6:i386 libxpm4:i386 libasound2:i386 But if I paste in that line, I get this error: Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package libmotif4 E: Unable to locate package libxp6 E: Unable to locate package libxpm4 E: Unable to locate package libasound2 My repository settings are below. Is there anything I'm missing in there? How do I fix the problems I'm having with Xfce and Xubuntu?

I booted into a Xubuntu session and when the splash disappeared it left behind artifacts on the desktop. I went into Desktop to change the background but it stayed completely gray. Not only that, GTK isn't theming any of my windows, nor can I change GTK themes in the settings manager. I recently installed GTK+ 2.x alongside GTK+ 3 for a compatibility issue with xfce-battery-plugin, which also refuses to show anything but 0%. What is going on?

Installed nvidia driver, activated it, and now Unity is gone. No bars, menus, nothing

I installed the nvidia driver (installed the ubuntu-x-swat ones, updated them, got the updates for them, installed bumblebee. I restarted everytime I did those steps, so no, i don't simply need to 'restart X'. I tried to run things using bumblebee, but bumblebee was like "can't access GPU driver". So I ran nvidia-settings, it said the drivers weren't in use, so I ran "sudo nvidia-xconfig", then restarted. Now, my login screen looks differently than it did before: it asks me if I want to load: "GNOME, GNOME - no effects, Cairo Dock - GNOME, System Default, or Ubuntu" when I log in, but WORST OF ALL: i no longer have any kind of GNOME/unity GUI. There are no title bars above any windows, no close/minimize/maximize buttons. The unity bar is gone, and will not show up when I call it. And the top status bar is also no longer there.

Sentelic Touchpad Scrolling ASUS UX31 Zenbook

The capabilities of the touchpad on the new ASUS UX31 Zenbook leave much to be desired. The touchpad works like a mouse, but no vertical or horizontal scrolling. I contacted a developer who works for Sentelic. He said: Unless driver does some non-trivial works based on coordinates output, I'm afraid that it won't have scrolling support at this moment. and Windows driver does scrolling in driver where current Linux driver doesn't have such feature, yet. Additionaly, given that the resource is quite limited at this moment, I'm afraid that there is no firm schedule for scrolling support in Linux driver. How can we get this driver to do some "non-trivial works based on coordinate output"?

Replicate GAE Datastore On A Server LAN in Java

There may be instances wherein one Company Client may not have internet connection on their vicinity. Either their Internet Service Provider currently experience a down time or there are some other problems involving the network, but not their LAN. GAE seems to be needing a connection at all times in the internet. I only need GAE Datastore. I'm thinking about a different application. Creating a Java Swing Client, for instance, and connecting to the Office Server via HRD of GAE Datastore. When I tried to check on the solutions for Java, it does not say anything about uploading all data and I do not need the App. I just need the GAE Datastore. In Java GAE, only indexes can be able to be manipulated. So, is there any tricks/ideas that you can use HRD with GAE Datastore on Java with an Internal Office Server combined? This way, it may provide service even during network down times. (Can somebody create me a tag of gae-datastore, please.)

Giant battery consumption with dual graphics solution (only i-gpu working)

I use a Laptop with Intel Core i7 SandyBridge and integrated Intel HD3000 graphics as well as a Nvidia Geforce GTS 555M. So far, I got the impression my Laptop was running with the Nvidia graphics adapter only because the fan was always running on highest speed (and loudest noise) and it was getting very hot even when doing nothing. Also the battery is empty after ~40-50 minutes (while having ~4-5 hours with Intel graphics in Win7). Since this can't be healthy I wanted to switch to the integrated graphics instead. I was fairly surprised when the System Information showed me that the as graphics adapter I use "Intel M". Why is my battery empty so fast with Ubuntu? Without using the NVIDIA graphics adapter? Summary: I DONT WANT to use the Nvidia graphics adapter (OPTIMUS), I just want the Intel solution. As I have understood, the Intel solution is running already, emptying my battery 10x as fast as Win7. What is wrong? Any ideas?

Install GRUB to Ubuntu Partition

So my computer has the following partitions: /dev/sda -- (I know this isn't a real partition, but more so the boot loader) /dev/sda1 -- (Windows 7 Boot Loader) /dev/sda3 -- (Windows 7) /dev/sda4 -- (Data partition, NTFS) that means i have /dev/sda2 as free space. I do not want to change the MBR of the computer. I would like /dev/sda2 to contain GRUB AND Ubuntu. So ideally when I turn my computer on, BIOS would ask if I'd like to boot Windows 7 or Ubuntu(or Grub or partition 2), and I could choose either one. But I would like Grub and Ubuntu to be on the same partition, so they will not interfere in any way with windows or window's boot loader/partition (sda3) How can I do this? Catch: when formatting partitions, Ubuntu does not give me the option to make them virtual partitions, so that makes things harder. I tried: installing Ubuntu to /dev/sda2 (which I formatted as ext4) and then told the Ubuntu installer to install the bootloader to /dev/sda2. But when I select "Ubuntu" from BIOS's boot selection, it loads a black screen and says "invalid arch independent ELF magic grub rescue _" and allows me to input stuff. How can I fix this, or tell my computer where Grub is?

This problem is driving me nuts. CS0016: Could not write to output file 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework<64\vX.X.XXXX\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root\XXXXXX\XXXXXX\App_Web_XXXX.aspx.XXXXXXXX.XXXXXXXX.dll' -- 'The directory name is invalid. ' Tried to give full access to network service on C:\windows\temp and the temp folder in v4.0.xxx folder. Been searching hi and low online but no one has the right answer for this. Server is Windows Server 2008r2, SQL Server 2008r2 is installed on the same server. I believe that it could have something to do with SQL Server being installed after the .NET Framework 4.0 was installed, but I did a aspnet_regiis.exe -u and then -i to reinstall. Tried from both Framework folder and Framework64 folder, still no luck Anybody outthere with the same problem? Thanks in advance, Christian

Do I need to be worried about these SMART drive temperatures?

I have 5 hard drives in a machine sitting in a cupboard. /dev/sda is a 500GB Seagate drive, and is the boot disk. /dev/sd{b,c,d,e} are 2TB drives in a raid6 configuration. smartctl is showing significantly higher temperatures (like ~140 degrees celsius) on the raid drives than the boot drive. Postfix SASL Authentication using PAM_Python

I've compiled pam_python.so and made sure that it is in /lib/security. PHP extension causes symbol lookup error

Dear, I installed - or better tried to - the NMCryptGate Extension for PHP on my Debian 5.0.8 server. I did this by compiling the sources which came up with no error message. Calling phpinfo() I can see the extension as enabled. BUT, whenever I try calling a method from this extension I get an error logged to the apache error log: /usr/sbin/apache2: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/php5/20060613+lfs/nmcryptgate.so: undefined symbol: nmlistalloc What is missing? I got two packages from the software company: the php module sources and some files which should - according to their path inside the tar - go to /usr/local/bin|doc|include|lib. I moved them there without any effect. WPF Window Style not working at runtime

Hi, I created a WPF application in Visual Studio 2010 Express (C#) and added the text below to the Application.Resources in App.xaml. I see the style applied to the window in the designer, but when I run the application, the window background is white. Running in Windows XP on BootCamp on a MacBook Pro if that is a factor. manipulate objects outside svg with javascript-function inside the svg

Hello! I'm embedding a svg-graphic on my website and i'd like to manipulate the rest of the website with javascript-commands which are in the svg - though i'm not sure if this is possible. Let me elaborate: I've got a worldmap in svg, i want to click on a country and this click should run an ajax-call and load relevant information of this country into a div in the html site where the svg is embedded. "onclick="location.href='xxx'"" redirects to the respective site which is fine, but i'd prefer to run a js-function that fetches the site with ajax - but running a javascript-function in the svg only seems to work for functions and elements defined in the svg, not outside of it. Is it basically possible to manipulate anything outside the svg through a js-function in the svg? How? Regards Christian

MS SQL and .NET Typed Dataset AllowDBNull Metadata

Good afternoon, I am generating a typed dataset from a stored procedure. The stored procedure may contain something like: select t1.colA, t2.colA AS t2colA from t1 inner join t2 on t1.key = t2.key When I generate the typed dataset, the dataset knows whether t1.colA allows NULLs, but it always puts FALSE in AllowDBNull for t2.colA even if t2.colA allows NULL. Is this because the column is aliased? Is there any way, from SQL, to hint to VS that the column allows NULL? We currently have to go in and update the column's AllowDBNull if we regenerate the table. Thanks in advance. Christian
