    When I run vagrant up to provision a new VM on Lion it takes an extremely long time, during which the entire Mac is very laggy and unresponsive.   • Default program for opening .pro Qt project files

    I would like to set Qt Creator (the one which is in the Nokia Qt SDK, not the one in Canonical PPAs) as the default program to open .pro Qt project files. But it appears that my Ubuntu install (12.04 while I am writing the question) recognizes .pro files as plain text files instead of Qt project files. I know that I could fix the problem by setting Qt Creator as the default program for opening plain text files but I want to keep on opening plain text files with the program I currently use for this (gedit). So my question is : how can I do for making my Ubuntu install recognizing .pro files as Qt project files instead of plain text files ? NB : I have already looked at Ubuntu Tweak to associate Qt project files with Qt Creator but I did not find anything relevant (perhaps I missed it too). EDIT : the solution is in the last comment of the accepted answer.

  • How to stop Thunar being default file browser

    On a relatively new 11.04 installation Thunar has become the default file browser simply by using it! Whilst I can open Nautilus easily enough, I'd rather it remained as the default, especially when I choose to view files in dual pane. The only action that I can pinpoint that might have given over my files and folders to Thunar is making Nautilus into Nautilus-Elementary (oh and Unity carked it so I reverted rather unwillingly to Classic, glad I did it is so much more stable and this is my production machine and Unity acts as if it is early alpha as far as I can tell!)

    I am trying to find the option that sets, for the whole system the default Web Browser, Mail Client, Video Player and Music Player instead of having to do it for each type of file. I knew where the option was in 11.04 but somehow I can not find it again. Just to not get anymore confused I am not talking about right clicking a file then changing the "Open With" to the one I want. The option I am looking for affects everything in general, so if I change, for example, the default video player to VLC, all movies will be watched with VLC. I am using Unity.

    Hi I am switching constantly between browsers (three different at the moment). So i was also switching default browsers to open my mail / new links etc... I also saw that with the command sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser the browsers have different priorities. So I had the idea that it could be possible that the default browser could be the browser/s that is/are actually open and running! And if two are running, the one with higher priority is chosen. Unluckily I did not find anything.. Is this possible? Would be really great! cheers dmeu

  • Default file manager changed, can't change back

    (Using ubuntu 11.04) I tried to open a torrent file in chrome, and it asked for my default application, so I clicked Transmission, and then I got an error: "Failed to execute default file manager, Failed to execute child process "transmission" (No such file or directory)." Now if I click on any shortcut on the unity bar, such as the trash folder or the icon for my portable hard drive, I get this error, as well as with any download or folder from chrome or firefox. I can't seem to figure out how to fix this, as there seems to be no easy way to do it.

  • Changing the default program for an application

    I have installed MonoDevelop and after that Wine, but when I want to open an EXE file and then double click on it, it always runs with the Mono runtime, and if I want to run it with Wine, I should right click on it and choose Wine. Well, in properties and in Open With there isn't Wine that choose it for the default application... I have this problem for all types of applications and files. When the software you want to run is in the right click application (Open With), I can't choose it in properties for the default. In fact, I can't find it in properties, because it is in open with option in right click... What should I do to fix this problem? I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal), 32 bit.

  • Google Calendar as Default Handler of iCal/ICS files

    I would like for Google Calendar to open ICS files when I open them. In a way analogous to how Gmail can be set to be the default handler for mailto: links. More specifically, I would like for Google Calendar to import them to my primary calendar, which can manually be achieved by, when on Google Calendar, clicking the small arrow next to Other Calendars, then choosing Import Calendar, picking the appropriate file and choosing Import. I don't know if this is possible, but I'm hoping somebody will have a great idea.

  • Making python 3.3 default python 3 interpreter instead of 3.2

    So, to keep it simple. Ubuntu 12.10 has python 3.2 pre installed and it is linked to "python3". I downloaded python 3.3 and it's command is "python3.3". However, I downloaded pySide for python3 from synaptic. Using "from PySide.QtCore import *" fails on python3.3. BUT, when I ran just "python3" (aka 3.2) everything works fine. Synaptic just installed lib for python3.2 which is default for python3 in ubuntu. How can I force synaptic to install modules for python3.3? Thanks

    I am using Linux Mint 13 with Cinnamon. I have a problem setting an application to open a file with some extension when the application is actually only extracted, not really installed using apt-ger or .deb file. For example - Blender. You can download a .tar.gz from official site which you then extract and you can just run the app. However, it isn't listed in the default apps list (Right Clickon file - Open with other application - Show all installed apps). So now I have to always open the application first and open the file from there. How can I solve this?

    So I created some rspec_scaffold for an Exercise model and added "map.resource :exercises" to my routes file and I was surprised when the "/exercises" url rendered the show action. What the heck?   • MVC ActionLink omits action when action equals default route value

    I have the following routes defined for my application: routes.MapRoute( "Referral", // Route name "{referralCode}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index" } // Parameter defaults ); routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index" } // Parameter defaults ); And I'm trying to create an ActionLink to go on the Index action on my AdminController: @Html.ActionLink("admin", "Index", "Admin") However, when the view is executed the ActionLink renders as (Index action value is omitted): <a href="/Admin">admin</a> Normally this would be ok, but it's causing a collision with the "Referral" route. NOTE: If I instead use ActionLink to render a different action like "Default," the ActionLink renders correctly: <a href="/Admin/Default">admin</a> The fact that the "Default" action renders correctly leads me to believe the problem has to do with the default value specified for the route. Is there anyway to force ActionLink to render the "Index" action as well?

Selection Path Priority Status ------------------------------------------------------------ 0 /usr/bin/gij-4.6 1046 auto mode 1 /usr/bin/gij-4.6 1046 manual mode * 2 /usr/local/java/jdk1.7.0_07/bin/java 1 manual mode Press enter to keep the current choice[*], or type selection number: with update-alternatives --config javac (or javaws) returning similarly. however java isn't listed in the default applications menu when I click on a .jar file and go to "open with application". I tried to install java this way, and on the update-alternatives part of the command returned me: /etc/alternatives/[java,javac,javaws] is dangling, it will be updated with best choice I just confirmed that I can use java, as 'java -jar file.jar' does work. Just figured that I'd mention it, don't know why I didn't before, but when I right click on a .jar file, java 7 run-time isn't even listed there, it seems that the file-manager isn't recognizing it as a program, but it is there, and it does work...

  • How can I change the default screen resolution?

    Here's the scoop: I have a crappy VisionQuest TV that I am currently using as a monitor on my computer running XBMCbuntu. It defaults to 1280x768 which the TV will not display correctly. It appears to be the correct size, but the screen is panned WAY to the left. The TV works fine on 1024x768 with the screen sitting in the right spot. Problem is, I have to change the resolution to 1024x768 every time I boot up. Any ideas?

    I have some computers that I set up a couple years ago by creating a user account, setting it up the way I wanted, and copying that user's directory over Default User's directory. Pretty simple stuff. One of the things that I did was to add a printer and set it as the default. Straightforward, or so I thought. Things have changed, and that printer has been removed and replaced with a different printer. I deleted the old printer's object and added the new one. Now every time a new user logs in, their profile gets copied from Default User, and they get the old printer as their default. This re-adds the old printer object to the system. Now every user can see the old printer's object again. I want to permanently delete Default User's default printer. How?

  • Using Default Document with Forms Authentication

    I have a site hosted on IIS7 with a default document specified as default.aspx. This works fine but my app uses Forms Authentication and I want to disable Anonymous Authentication completely. When I do disable anonymous authentication for everything except the login page, everything works fine but the default document setting stops working. With Anonymous authentication switched on if I visit http://mysite I get passed to http://mysite/default.aspx (which then redirects to the login page if the user hasn't already logged in) If I disable anonymous authentication (leaving only forms based auth enabled) and I visit http://mysite I get a permission denied page from IIS. Yet, if I visit http://mysite/default.aspx directly then the site works fine. I just want to disable anonymous authentication and have http://mysite go to http://mysite/default.aspx. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    I have multiple controllers with different actions (no "Index" actions). The actions I consider "default" actions, are named differently. I want to create default routes for their names and have the first available action (from my list of default actions) executed if only the controller name is provided in the route. So, for example, I have the following actions which I want to consider default and want checked for their existence in a controller in this order: List() Draw() ViewSingle() The routing should somehow search for /{controller} and then take the first available action from the list above as default action, e.g.: /ControllerA -> ControllerA.List() /ControllerB -> ControllerB.Draw() /ControllerC -> ControllerC.ViewSingle() /ControllerD -> ControllerD.Draw() /ControllerE -> ControllerE.List() Is this possible?     Are you frustrated by always having to change the font size before you create a document it Word?  Here’s how you can end that frustration and set your favorite default font size for once and for all! Microsoft changed the default font font to 11 point Calibri in Word 2007 after years of 12 point Times New Roman being the default.  Although it can be easily overlooked, there are ways in Word to change the default settings to anything you want.  Whether you want to change your default to 12 point Calibri or to 48 point Comic Sans…here’s how to change your default font settings in Word 2007 and 2010. Changing Default Fonts in Word To change the default font settings, click the small box with an arrow in the right left corner of the Font section of the Home tab in the Ribbon.   In the Font dialog box, choose the default font settings you want.  Notice in the Font box it says “+Body”; this means that the font will be chosen by the document style you choose, and you are only selecting the default font style and size.  So, if your style uses Calibri, then your font will be Calibri at the size and style you chose.  If you’d prefer to choose a specific font to be the default, just select one from the drop-down box and this selection will override the font selection in your document style. Here we left all the default settings, except we selected 12 point font in the Latin text box (this is your standard body text; users of Asian languages such as Chinese may see a box for Asian languages).  When you’ve made your selections, click the “Set as Default” button in the bottom left corner of the dialog. You will be asked to confirm that you want these settings to be made default.  In Word 2010, you will be given the option to set these settings for this document only or for all documents.  Click the bullet beside “All documents based on the Normal.dotm template?”, and then click Ok. In Word 2007, simply click Ok to save these settings as default. Now, whenever you open Word or create a new document, your default font settings should be set exactly to what you want.  And simply repeat these steps to change your default font settings again if you want. Editing your default template file Another way to change your default font settings is to edit your Normal.dotm file.  This file is what Word uses to create new documents; it basically copies the formatting in this document each time you make a new document. To edit your Normal.dotm file, enter the following in the address bar in Explorer or in the Run prompt: %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates This will open your Office Templates folder.  Right-click on the Normal.dotm file, and click Open to edit it.  Note: Do not double-click on the file, as this will only create a new document based on Normal.dotm and any edits you make will not be saved in this file.   Now, change any font settings as you normally would.  Remember: anything you change or enter in this document will appear in any new document you create using Word. If you want to revert to your default settings, simply delete your Normal.dotm file.  Word will recreate it with the standard default settings the next time you open Word. Please Note: Changing your default font size will not change the font size in existing documents, so these will still show the settings you used when these documents were created.  Also, some addins can affect your Normal.dotm template.  If Word does not seem to remember your font settings, try disabling Word addins to see if this helps. Conclusion Sometimes it’s the small things that can be the most frustrating.  Getting your default font settings the way you want is a great way to take away a frustration and make you more productive.   • IIS7 default document for urlMapped url throws 403 error

    Hopefully this all makes sense: I have a Web Application project against an IIS7 server that is "theme-able" using different master pages. As a result of what I am trying to do, the root of the project has no aspx files, so I am using the web.config's ability to rewrite "~/default.aspx" to "~/themes/a/default.aspx" this works great as long as i type in "http://www.mysite.com/default.aspx", but typing just "http://www.mysite.com" results in a "403 - Forbidden: Access is denied" error I was hoping that the combination of urlMapping and default document would be smart enough to handle this, but it's not <system.webServer> <defaultDocument enabled="true"> <files> <clear /> <add value="default.aspx"/> </files> </defaultDocument> </system.webServer> i also tried <system.webServer> <defaultDocument enabled="true"> <files> <clear /> <add value="~/themes/a/default.aspx"/> </files> </defaultDocument> </system.webServer> to no avail I was hoping a browser would come in without a document defined, IIS7 would assume it was default.aspx, and then the urlMapping would map it accordingly, but nope any pointers? I've read a ton of posts here with similar issues, but not the exact issue

    I recently noticed a class in C++0x that calls for an explicit default constructor. However, I'm failing to come up with a scenario in which a default constructor can be called implicitly. It seems like a rather pointless specifier. I thought maybe it would disallow Class c; in favor of Class c = Class(); but that does not appear to be the case. Some relevant quotes from the C++0x FCD, since it is easier for me to navigate [similar text exists in C++03, if not in the same places] 12.3.1.3 [class.conv.ctor] A default constructor may be an explicit constructor; such a constructor will be used to perform default-initialization or value initialization (8.5). It goes on to provide an example of an explicit default constructor, but it simply mimics the example I provided above. 8.5.6 [decl.init] To default-initialize an object of type T means: — if T is a (possibly cv-qualified) class type (Clause 9), the default constructor for T is called (and the initialization is ill-formed if T has no accessible default constructor); 8.5.7 [decl.init] To value-initialize an object of type T means: — if T is a (possibly cv-qualified) class type (Clause 9) with a user-provided constructor (12.1), then the default constructor for T is called (and the initialization is ill-formed if T has no accessible default constructor); In both cases, the standard calls for the default constructor to be called. But that is what would happen if the default constructor were non-explicit. For completeness sake: 8.5.11 [decl.init] If no initializer is specified for an object, the object is default-initialized; From what I can tell, this just leaves conversion from no data. Which doesn't make sense. The best I can come up with would be the following: void function(Class c); int main() { function(); //implicitly convert from no parameter to a single parameter } But obviously that isn't the way C++ handles default arguments. What else is there that would make explicit Class(); behave differently from Class();? The specific example that generated this question was std::function [20.8.14.2 func.wrap.func]. It requires several converting constructors, none of which are marked explicit, but the default constructor is.

  • How to read default key value with dconf or gsettings?

    I would like to know the default value of a dconf/gsettings key. My question is a followup of the question below: Where can I get a list of SCHEMA / PATH / KEY to use with gsettings? What I'm trying to do, so create a script that reads all my personal preferences so I can back them up and restore them. I plan to iterate though all keys, like the script above, see what keys have been changed from their default value, and make a note of these, that can be restored later. I see that the dconf-editor display the keys' default value, but I'd very much like to script this. Also, I don't see how parsing the schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/ can be automated.   • Windows 7 DHCP Default Gateway not Overridden by manual Default Gateway

    We have recently installed Windows 7 for student computers. All student computers must be routed through our content filter which is located at 192.168.0.63. This was done in WinXP by adding a Default Gateway in the network adapter settings TCP/IP Properties Advanced Default Gateway. All teacher computers are routed through the DHCP assigned Default Gateway of 192.168.0.1. In WinXP the dhcp default gateway was correctly overridden by this manual setting. In Win7 it appears that the dhcp default gateway is retained and the manual one is added to the list so that there are two with the dhcp one having the primary metric. I have tried several ways to remove the dhcp default gateway such as, running the "route delete 0.0.0.0 192.168.0.1" command. Doing this from an administrator command prompt works but it just resets upon reboot. I've tried adding this command to the registry's Run section but it seems to run as a non-administrator and therefore will not complete successfully. Is there any way to prevent this and force the manual default gateway to override the dhcp one? Or to remove the dhcp assigned one automatically on boot/login? HELP! We CANNOT allow student computers to connect to the internet without going through the content filter.
