• Most Efficient Alternative Method of Storing Settings for iPhone Apps

  I am not using the Settings bundle to store the settings for my app, as I prefer to allow the user to access the settings within the app (they may be changed fairly often). I do realize that there is the option to do both, but for now, I am trying to find the most optimal place to store the settings within the app. I have a good number of settings (from what I have read, probably too many for NSUserDefaults), and the two main options I am considering are: 1) storing the settings in a dictionary in the plist, loading the settings into a NSDictionary property in the app delegate and accessing them via the sharedDelegate 2) storing the settings in a Core Data entity (1 row on Settings entity), loading the settings into a Settings object in the app delegate and accessing them via the sharedDelegate Of these two, which would be the optimal method, performance wise?

  I am not that good with programmation, but I guess you are. we are planning to install 2 display monitor in the back of the other one. There will be 1 computer that will display a different application on each display monitor. I want to be able to switch display 1 to 2 and display 2 to display 1 to show what is on the other monitor without having to move themselve on the back of the monitor to see the opposite monitor. I need a script that will switch display every x times. How can I do that ?

• How do I store an array of a particular type into my settings file?

  For some reason, I can't seem to store an array of my class into the settings. Here's the code: var newLink = new Link(); Properties.Settings.Default.Links = new ArrayList(); Properties.Settings.Default.Links.Add(newLink); Properties.Settings.Default.Save(); In my Settings.Designer.cs I specified the field to be an array list: [global::System.Configuration.UserScopedSettingAttribute()] [global::System.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCodeAttribute()] public global::System.Collections.ArrayList Links { get { return ((global::System.Collections.ArrayList)(this["Links"])); } set { this["Links"] = value; } } For some reason, it won't save any of the data even though the Link class is serializable and I've tested it.

• Secondary Monitor won't Display at Full Resolution with Primary Display Disconnected

  I have had a bad day. Among today's events, the LCD display on my Dell E6500 notebook failed. It had been working with a secondary monitor connected through a VGA cable at 1600x900 resolution until I removed the LCD from my notebook for repair. Now the max resolution available on the secondary display is 1024x768. If I reconnect the burned out primary display, the secondary monitor is again available at 1600x900. The video card is an onboard Mobil Intel 4. How can I maintain the secondary display at 1600x900 with the primary display disconnected (for repair)? Edit: I just noticed that when Windows boots, it displays at the correct resolution and I can see my desktop in all its glory for a couple seconds then reverts to 1024x768.

• Unable to acces sound settings

  I’m unable to access the sound settings in U1404 TT. Before updating to Ubuntu 14.04, with right click and System setting I had access to some settings which allowed me to set different sound levels for different application. Now I'm unable to do that. Click on Sound settings send me to a Setting window where sound settings are not available. Actually, as you can see, my system settings menu is quite reduced (no options for keyboard).

• Is there a work around to configure brightness or color on a DisplayLink monitor?

  I run 3 monitors in addition to my laptop display at work - two of the monitors are using DisplayLink adapters. I've always thought that all my displays were too bright (and possibly give me headaches?) - even after I reduced their brightness as far as possible using the monitor menus and the nvidia software control panel. Recently I installed f.lux - I love it's "halogen" color profile which has improved my life considerably. The problem is that f.lux has no effect on/will not adjust the color & brightness of my two DisplayLink monitors. F.lux has a faq (#4 under troubleshooting) that addresses this - saying DisplayLink has no support for color calibration so f.lux only works with monitors "directly connected to your computer". Does anyone know of a work around? Specifically a way to use windows color management/profiles (or some other software) to adjust the brightness/color tone of DisplayLink monitors?   Oracle UPK Content Development tool settings: Before developing UPK content, your UPK Developer needs to be configured with certain standard settings to ensure the content will have a uniform look. To set the options: 1. Open the UPK Developer. 2. Click the Tools menu. 3. Click Options. After you configure the UPK Options, you can share these preferences with other content developers by exporting them to an .ops file. This is particularly useful in workgroup environments where multiple authors are working on the same content that requires consistent output regardless of who authored the content. (To learn more about Exporting/Importing Content Defaults refer to the Content Development.pdf guide that is delivered with the UPK Developer.) Here is a list of a few UPK Developer tool settings that Oracle UPK Content Developers use to develop UPK pre-built content: Screen resolution is set to 1024 x 768. See It mode frame delay is set to 5 seconds. Know It Required % is set to 70% and all three levels of remediation are selected. We opt to automatically record keyboard shortcuts. records... i am not able to find any solution /control using which i an do it easily. coz my field's value is in attribute named "Value" when in the examples i saw its between opening and closing tag.. i have 2 methods to do so. 1 . i make one page to edit a single record and pass id of record to that page on editing. open the page in iframe on same page to edit and in page_load get data from database for id passed and fill it in control. 2 . i store xml on server as physical file and use it in page i opened in iframe to edit the record. so i am confused... can anybody please guide me that what shpould i do to let user provide interface to edit this xml data/user profile ?

On every machine I will install the following: Eclipse Mysql Query Browser and Admin Mysql Workbench Oracle VirtualBox Thunderbird ----------- ----------- ----------- If I install them by apt, this will automatically create shortcuts in Applications but when I build them from source or extract the tar ball, I will have to add New Item at it's relevant place going to System-->Preferences-->Main Menu to make them available as a shortcuts and this settings are applied only for the account I login and perform them. How could I make this preferences settings for complete system wide which applies for all users? or if there is a way to apply a customized user settings to other users will also be ok. • xubutnu Nvidia Settings not remembered

  I have an Nvidia card and I'm using NVIDIA Driver Version: 304.51 and the NVIDIA X Server Settings GUI. Everything works fine but when I reboot and login again both my two screens are set to +0 +0 so they mirror each other... I change the settings to screen 2 (NEC LED) to be left of screen 1 (DELL) click Apply and Save to X Configuration File... It all works but when I login again the settings are not remembered... • How to reset display settings in XFCE \ Ubuntu 12.04 and also flgrx drivers

  I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 and since I hate unity I installed the Xubuntu package and am using XFCE instead. Since I have a Radeon HD5770 I also installed the fglrx drivers. This all went fine (aside from the fact that the post-release update fglrx drivers have an error on installation and Ubuntu thinks they're not installed when they actually are. I configured my display settings (dual monitors, a 17" CRT on VGA and a 17" LCD on DVI) in the amdcccle program and everything was perfect. THEN, 2 days ago, I accidentally clicked on the "Display" settings in XFCE "settings" manager. After that, everything got screwed. Now, I normally run the CRT at 1152x854 and the LCD at 1280x1024 with the CRT as my primary monitor (with panel) and the LCD without panels etc just to display other windows when I want to drag them over there. The problem is now that if I set my CRT to 1152x864, it stays at 1280x1024 virtually and half the stuff falls off the screen. It also puts the LCD at 1280x1024 BUT then overlays the CRT's display ontop with different wallpaper in an L shape down the right-hand and bottom edges. In short, nothing makes sense and everything is FUBAR. I tried uninstalling fglrx through synaptic, and renaming xorg.conf and also the xfce XML file that has monitor settings but it still won't make sense. Unity on the other hand can currently set everything normally so the problem appears to be only with XFCE. In any case, I can't even get the fglrx drivers back, when I re-installed them, I can't run amdccle anymore as it says the driver isn't installed!! Can someone help me reset my XFCE settings so the monitors aren't screwed with some incorrect virtual desktop size and also so I can get fglrx drivers back and working? I really don't want to have to format and reinstall and go through all the hassle but it looks like I may have to :(

• Enlarging everything on 16" 1920x1080 notebook display in Windows 7

  Does Windows 7 have an option to enlarge everything on the screen, e.g. via a spi setting? How well does this work? i.e. do the objects look clear when enlarged? I ask this because sometimes software that enlarges non-photographic bitmap images e.g. icons and symbols can leave them artifacted with harsh jaggier slopes and blurred lines. I've tried the dpi setting in Windows XP but it doesn't enlarge everything, and some things are not so clear as described above. I'm looking at a notebook/laptop with this spec. • Display brightness adjustment not working

  I have Ubuntu 11.04 installed on a Lenovo Thinkpad T410 laptop with nVidia GT218 display controller. I am unable to adjust the display brightness. Pressing Fn-Home and Fn-End brings up the display brightness on-screen display and the indicated level increases or decreases as it should. But the actual display brightness does not change. Earlier I was able to Ctrl-Alt-F1 over to a text terminal and then do Fn-Home / Fn-End to successfully change the display brightness, and then Ctrl-Alt-F8 back to the Gnome session with the new brightness. But after upgrading to 11.04 the psuedoterminals have disappeared.

• External display suddenly not detected

  I have a Lenovo IdeaPad U410 running Ubuntu Desktop 13.04. I have an external monitor that I connect to via HDMI, and it's worked flawlessly for six months. I plug in my laptop, it detects the display. The "change display" key built into the laptop works for switching between the two screens. Never any problems. This afternoon, when I reconnected my computer after taking it into another room for a bit, it didn't work. When I open up Display settings, it can't detect the display. I tried disconnecting/reconnecting everything multiple times. And most strangely, that same "change display" key now behaves like a Super key, opening the dash instead of toggling the display. Nothing at all changed between when I plugged it in this morning and when it stopped working a few hours later. I tried xrandr, that doesn't detect it either. Anyone have any ideas?

  Perhaps this question has been asked before in a different way, but I haven’t been able to find it. I have one or more plugin adapter assemblies in my application all having the type IPlugin, for instance. Each adapter has its own settings structures stored in a common directory. Whether they are stored in one contiguous file or in separate ones doesn’t matter. Each adapter can have one or more settings associated with it. The settings will have both a name and the Plugin it will be used for. How would I create such a configuration system using the following requirements: I want to use .NETs built in settings system and avoid writing one from scratch The host application will be responsible for locating the plugin settings and passing it to the plugin Each plugin will be responsible for reading and writing its own settings to separate concerns. The host application should call Plugin.Save(thePath) and it does its thing. All settings are user scoped So far, I realize that I would need to write my own SettingsProvider, but the provider seems to work in isolation in that there’s no way to pass it parameters such as the path of the plugin directory and the name of the settings. All of the example code I've seen has the provider getting the data from the runtime environment.

• What is controlling the desktop display?

  I have two Ubuntu systems and in the course of changing configurations something has become muddled. I have disabled Unity in favor of gnome shell, the older style display of the desktop. Then I installed xfce 4. Seemed everything would be working okay, and for the most part it does. Except I noticed that on one system there's something else controlling settings. On one, if I right click the desktop, I get the menu with the options: open in new window create launcher... create url link... create folder... create from template -> open terminal here paste desktop settings... properties... applications -> On system two, right clicking brings up the menu: Create new folder Create new document -> organize desktop by name keep aligned paste Change Desktop Background Additionally, even though I set the background with the xfce settings manager, on system two that background will appear for a few seconds before it's replaced by something that looks like a background from Ubuntu's original desktop. And it's being controlled by what comes up with the "change desktop background" when right clicking, which isn't the xfce settings manager. On the first system, that right click does bring up the xfce settings tool. In short, something is controlling/overriding the xfce settings on machine two, but I can't find what file or configuration tool is doing it. How can I get system two to behave as system one, giving control of settings and configuration of X to XFCE's tools?

• Visual Studio crashes when I add a .settings file in a C++ Windows form application

  I'm trying to add a .settings file in a windows form application by adding a (whatever) file in the project and have it named smthng.settings. Right after it is created, it crashes (if I look into the project's directory the file is there, but it's not "in" the project). Am I doing it wrong or could it be that the problem lies elsewhere? Edit: It seems that it's the settings designer that crashes. Partially Solved:If I add a (whatever).config file, then rename it to .settings and change it's file type to C/C++ Code (don't ask how I figured this out..) then I can add to it settings, but if I do add something that has any connection to the form then automatically a (whatever).config with thew same name spawns (which is identical to the (whatever).setting even if change one of them) and at the stdafx.cpp a #include '(whatever).h' appears, which is a problem, because there is not such a header. (if I erase it or just create a blank (whatever).h it doesn't work. Apparently I have to somehow connect all the data in the (w/e).settings to (w/e).h as well or maybe something else) Anyone had this problem before? Anyone has any ideas?

I noticed, that my settings I made in shutter also affect the settings of xfce4-screenshooter (but not all). EDIT: The man page sais, there is an -o option to open it with an external program. How can I make this default? Then I could set there an external program, that automatically compresses the screenshot to an emailable size

• Xubuntu dual monitor broke display

  After I used Settings Display to enable my second monitor, my first display is not working anymore either. So I enabled both, then clicked save configuration since it was working and boom it crashed. Now when I start up, I can see the screen which I type my password but it goes black after that! When I boot into recovery mode it works fine but in Settings Display I don't see HDMI at all to disable it. Is there anyway to restore all display setting to default? (I can Ctrl+ALT+F1 and type commands but xrandr returns no results over there) EDIT I should clarify that system bios is set to laptop display

• Apple Cinema Display 23" and grub

  As per the title, I'm running my display on an older 23" Apple Cinema Display (because I still love it, darn it). I'm pushing it with an ATI Radeon DVI dual-link PCIe card. It works just fine, except GRUB doesn't seem able to push out the 1920x1200 pixel resolution needed in order to show me a boot menu! So..., I keep a smaller second monitor connected as the primary display so that I can see the boot menu and boot the system (I don't use that display once booted). This is a goofy work-around, and I'd like to just use my single display exclusively to boot the machine. I found some grub codes for higher resolutions, but not for 1920x1200. Is it capable of this? Did I just miss it? Thanks in advance!!!

Most software seems to return to the last display but Stellarium always starts in the primary display. Does Linux have a way of forcing the startup display or is it something the individual program has to manage? Thanks. EDIT And with no changes on my part Stellarium is behaving nicely and remembering which screen it was on. Still nice to know if there is a way of forcing this.

  I have recently linked a database to my C# service by creating a LINQ to SQL item in my solution. Everything was fine and dandy as I was continuing to code, but then I suddenly noticed that there where 16 Ambiguity errors. e.g. Ambiguity between 'EmailService.Properties.Settings.defaultInstance' and 'EmailService.Properties.Settings.defaultInstance' What happened was that the database file decided to create it's own Setting.Designer.cs; So now I have a Settings.Designer.cs and a Settings1.Designer.cs (which was created by the LINQ to SQL file) in my Properties folder. Is there anyway that I can change where the database file is referencing its settings so I can delete the duplicate?

  I have Ubuntu 11.10 with Gnome 3 (no Unity), gnome-screen-saver has been removed and replaced with xscreensaver. The screensaver stuff all works fine -- no complaints there. When I close my laptop lid, even for a second, the screen locks (and the dialog box asking for my password is xscreensaver's). I'd like for this not to happen...
