  • New to C/C++ Using Android NDK to port Legacy code, getting compile errors

    I have been trying to take some old Symbian C++ code over to Android today using the NDK. I have little to no C or C++ knowledge so its been a chore, however has to be done. My main issue is that I'm having trouble porting what I believe is Symbian specifi code to work using the small C/C++ subset that is available with the Android NDK. Here is a picture of the compilation errors I'm getting using cygwin I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on how to deal with these errors? For instance is TBool/Int/TUint/RPointerArray/RSocket a Symbian primitive and thats why it wont compile or is it something else? Also what is ISO C++? Any tutorials, guides or tips and help would be greatly appreciated.

    I want to upload a txt file to a website, I'll admit I haven't looked into it in any great detail but I have looked at a few examples and would like more experienced opinions on whether I'm going in the right direction.   • How to update a Widget dynamically (Not waiting 30 min for onUpdate to be called)?

    I am currently learning about widgets in Android. I want to create a WIFI widget that will display the SSID, the RSSI (Signal) level. But I also want to be able to send it data from a service I am running that calculates the Quality of Sound over wifi. However what is the most efficent way to get the information from my service that will be already running to update periodically on my widget? Also is there a better approach to updating the the widget rather than using a timer and timertask? (Avoid polling) UPDATE As per Karan's suggestion I have added the following code in my Service: RemoteViews remoteViews = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.widget); ComponentName thisWidget = new ComponentName( context, WlanWidget.class ); remoteViews.setTextViewText(R.id.widget_QCLevel, " " + qcPercentage); AppWidgetManager.getInstance( context ).updateAppWidget( thisWidget, remoteViews ); This gets run everytime the RSSI level changes but it still never updates the TextView on my widget, any ideas why?

  • Android - Get Notified when a new access point is added?

    I was wondering is it possible to get a notification of when a new configured network is added to the WifiManager in Android? I know you can get the current list of configured networks getConfiguredNetworks But is it possible to get notification of when a new one is added? I dont see anything in the WifiManager that would be helpful. Has anyone any other ideas? Or insight into how this could be achieved?

  • Porting Symbian C++ to Android NDK

    I've been given some Symbian C++ code to port over for use with the Android NDK. The code has lots of Symbian specific code in it and I have very little experience of C++ so its not going very well. The main thing that is slowing me down is trying to figure out the alternatives to use in normal C++ for the Symbian specific code. At the minute the compiler is throwing out all sorts of errors for unrecognised types. From my recent research these are the types that I believe are Symbian specific: TInt, TBool, TDesc8, RSocket, TInetAddress, TBuf, HBufc, RPointerArray Changing TInt and TBool to int and bool respectively works in the compiler but I am unsure what to use for the other types? Can anyone help me out with them? Especially TDesc, TBuf, HBuf. Also Symbian has a two phase contructor using NewL and NewLc But would changing this to a normal C++ constructor be ok? Finally Symbian uses the clean up stack to help eliminate memory leaks I believe, would removing the clean up stack code be acceptable, I presume it should be replaced with try/catch statements?

  • Android - dialer icon gets placed in recently used apps after finish()

    In my application I detect the out going call when a call is dialled from the dialer or contacts. This works fine and I then pop up a dialog saying I have detected the call and then the user presses a button to close the dialog which calls finish() on that activity. It all works fine except that when I then hold the home key to bring up the recently used apps the dialer icon is there. And when it is clicked the dialog is brought back into focus in the foreground when the dialog activity should be dead and gone and not be able to be brought back to the foreground. Here is a picture of what I mean. So two questions arise, why would the dialer icon be getting placed there and why would it be recalling my activity to the foreground? Has anyone any idea why this might be happening?

  • Getting the System tick count with basic C++?

    I essentially want to reconstruct the getTickCount() windows function so I can use it in basic C++ without any non standard libraries or even the STL. (So it complies with the libraries supplied with the Android NDK) I have looked at clock() localtime time But I'm still unsure whether it is possible to replicate the getTickCount windows function with the time library. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to do this or even if its possible?

  • making an SQL date column visible to a Drupal view

    I'm trying to make a table visible to Views. One of the columns has type date (as opposed to a Unix timestamp). The example I initially tried to copy from is in modules/comment.views.inc in the Views module: // timestamp (when comment was posted) $data['comments']['timestamp'] = array( 'title' => t('Post date'), 'help' => t('Date and time of when the comment was posted.'), 'field' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_field_date', 'click sortable' => TRUE, ), 'sort' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_sort_date', ), 'filter' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_filter_date', ), ); This makes the dates, which are all in the past year or so, show up as "1 Jan 1970 00:33", so evidently a value of '2010-05-12', for example, is being interpreted as 2010 seconds past 1 Jan 1970 00:00. Can anyone point me to a correct way of exporting date columns? EDIT: I'm following up on some clues found at http://drupal.org/node/476774 .

  • Why am I needing to click twice on a WPF listbox item in order to fire a command?

    Hi, I'm trying to make a standard WPF listbox be dynamically filled, and for each item in the list box to launch a command when clicked. Currently I have a working listbox, which can be filled and each item will fire the correct command, but in order to fire the command I have to click the list item twice. i.e, Click once to select the item, then click on the actual text to fire the command. As the list is dynamically created, I had to create a data template for the list items: <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBlock Margin="4,2,4,2"> <Hyperlink TextDecorations="None" Command="MyCommands:CommandsRegistry.OpenPanel"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding}" Margin="4,2,4,2"/> </Hyperlink> </TextBlock> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> Basically, how do I remove the need to click twice? I have tried to use event triggers to fire the click event on the hyperlink element when the list box item is selected, but I can't get it to work. Or, is there a better approach to dynamically fill a listbox and attach commands to each list item? Thanks

    I have followed the code example here toupper c++ example And implemented it in my own code as follows void CharString::MakeUpper() { char* str[strlen(m_pString)]; int i=0; str[strlen(m_pString)]=m_pString; char* c; while (str[i]) { c=str[i]; putchar (toupper(c)); i++; } } But this gives me the following compiler error CharString.cpp: In member function 'void CharString::MakeUpper()': CharString.cpp:276: error: invalid conversion from 'char*' to 'int' CharString.cpp:276: error: initializing argument 1of 'int toupper(int)' CharString.cpp: In member function 'void CharString::MakeLower()': This is line 276 putchar (toupper(c)); I understand that toupper is looking for int as a parameter and returns an int also, is that the problem? If so how does the example work?

    I am currently porting some Windows mobile C++ code to standard C++. So I am trying to find alternatives for windows specific functions. I have had very little luck in finding a standard C++ function that can help me replace the WSAGetLastError() windows specific function. WSAGetLastError() returns error numbers for errors that occur with sockets in windows. So I was wondering if anyone was aware of a way to replace this function in standard c++? A way to get different error numbers for different outcomes of connecting/dissconection a socket would be sufficent.

  • Quickest and most efficient method to search top 3 numbers?

    I currently have an array of around 8 - 10 numbers that changes on a periodic basis. So around every 5 - 10 seconds the numbers get updated. I need to get the top 3 numbers in the array every 10 seconds. This is all done on a mobile device. At the minute I iterate through the array 3 times and each time I take out the three highest numbers and place them in three previously declared variables. My question is what should I look to do to increase speed and efficiency in this instance?

So to continue my rambling entry today, I'd suggest you read this post by Donal Daly on 10 steps to intelligent Social CRM for Sales. No seriously, read it. It's almost like a Groundswell Cliff Notes for sales people. I particularly love his third point. Of course I haven't "gotten" it yet, but I've got a whole life time, for crying out loud. The documents show the following example of how to retrieve events from a calendar: URL feedUrl = new URL("http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/[email protected]/private/full"); CalendarService myService = new CalendarService("exampleCo-exampleApp-1"); myService.setUserCredentials("[email protected]", "mypassword"); // Send the request and receive the response: CalendarEventFeed myFeed = myService.getFeed(feedUrl, CalendarEventFeed.class); This will retrieve all events from the primary calendar of the [email protected] account. However, I need to retrieve events from a secondary calendar. I already have a reference the CalendarEntry object that represents the secondary calendar, but I still can't figure out how to get events from it. If there are 4 Sundays in the month in question, I need to figure out whether the chosen date is 1st Sunday of month 2nd Sunday of month 2nd last Sunday of month Last Sunday of month If there are 5 Sundays in the month in question, then I need to figure out whether the chosen date is 1st Sunday of month 2nd Sunday of month 3rd Sunday of month 2nd last Sunday of month Last Sunday of month I've had a look in JodaTime, but haven't found the relevant functionality there yet.     Hi, My project has a fairly deep graph of Maven modules. The root POM has the following plugin configured <plugins> <plugin> <groupId>org.jvnet</groupId> <artifactId>animal-sniffer</artifactId> <version>1.2</version> <configuration> <signature> <groupId>org.jvnet.animal-sniffer</groupId> <artifactId>java1.4</artifactId> <version>1.0</version> </signature> </configuration> </plugin> </plugins> If I invoke this target from the command line in the root directory via: mvn animal-sniffer:check Then it works fine as long as the current module extends (either directly or indirectly) from the root POM. However there are many children (or grandchildren) of the root module, which do not inherit from that module's POM. In this case, the goal fails because it cannot find the necessary configuration [ERROR] BUILD ERROR [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [INFO] One or more required plugin parameters are invalid/missing for 'animal-sniffer:check' [0] Inside the definition for plugin 'animal-sniffer' specify the following: <configuration> ... <signature>VALUE</signature> </configuration>. When configuring this plugin in the root module, is there any way to exclude a list of sub-modules either by name, or by packaging type? Thanks, Donal

    I've a spring bean with 3 Maps all of which are to be populated incrementally. First map is an item category list, second map is a product list and third map is a hobby for item type list All the maps are mapped to and on the JSP. When the page is loaded only the first map is populated on the onchange event of first map, I need to populate the second map in the bean and similarly on the onchange event of second map, I need to populate the third map in the bean. Is there a way to do this using Ajax?? I need some code samples to how to render JSON response in second and third dropdown. Clarification: @Donal: I have a simple JSP page with 3 dropdowns corresponding to 3 maps stored in my commandBean. So when the page loads for the first time only the first map and hence the first dropdown is populated. Now whenever the user selects anything out of the first dropdown, I need to send the same commandbean back with the values of the first dropdown and get the values for the second map and hence the second dropdown and so forth for the 3rd dropdown as well. For each dropdown I 've got 3 maps and 3 variables for storing the selected values. Now I want to understand if this is possible using Ajax. I hope this clarifies whatever you need to know. Thanx
