  I'm loading the Bootstrap CSS on my page from the CDN bootstrapcdn.com <link href="//netdna.bootstrapcdn.com/twitter-bootstrap/2.3.2/css/bootstrap-combined.min.css" rel="stylesheet"> How can I test if the stylesheet was loaded, and if not provide a local fallback? I do not want to wait for jQuery or other libraries to load before doing the test; I want all CSS to be loaded on the page first.

• Core Location - fallback, location caching and alternatives...

  I have a few questions about Core Location. 1) Should the user refuse permission for my app to use core location, or core location is unavailable for some reason, is there a fallback? (Device Locale, for example?) 2)Can I cache a device's location for next time? Does Core Location do this itself? 3)I really need the sunset time in the user's area during the mid-spring season and I have a function to do that, once I have the Latitude and Longitude of the device. Perhaps I can just make an assumption about the time based on Locale? (Example: In the US, assume approximately 7:00pm.)

• Fallback Mode on Intel HD 4000 on Ubuntu 12.04.1?

  Just built a system w/ a ivy bridge CPU (Xeon E3-1245 v2) with Intel HD 4000 onboard graphics, board is an Asrock H77 ProM. I had loaded Ubuntu server 12.04.1 onto it, but wanted to fool around w/ gnome 3. I installed gnome-shell, which didn't work, then gnome, which did, but only loads on fallback mode - the video is recognized as "VESA: sandy/ivy bridge graphics" I tried installing the whole ubuntu-desktop shebang but it's still in fallback graphics. Any way to get the full eye candy?

  There is applications and places menus in the gnome fallback ubuntu 12.10, What I found that I only can edit the applications menu, and there is no way to edit the places menu, in gnome 2 there is a way to edit the bookmarks in nautilus and they are changed in the places menu, its not the same in gnome 3 fallback when I add bookmarks folders it dont appear in places menu. Is there a way to add shortcuts to folders in places menu ??

  The specific problem is, the support of condition variable on Windows begins from Vista, for early version of Windows (Windows XP), I have a emulated condition variable code sort of solved the problem. However, I'd like to have the ability to call native condition variable API when the system supported and fallback to my version only on XP and earlier version. I tried to detect windows version with GetVersionInfo API, but it still gives me error on start time (cannot find API entry of InitializeConditionVariable sort of). I am not familiar with Windows programming, how do you solve the gentle fallback problem nicely?

  The "On the state of i18n in Perl" blog post from 26 April 2009 recommends using Locale::TextDomain module from libintl-perl distribution for l10n / i18n in Perl. Besides I have to use gettext anyway, and gettext support in Locale::Messages / Locale::TextDomain is more natural than in gettext emulation in Locale::Maketext. The subsection "15.5.18 Perl" in chapter "15 Other Programming Languages" in GNU gettext manual says: Portability The libintl-perl package is platform independent but is not part of the Perl core. The programmer is responsible for providing a dummy implementation of the required functions if the package is not installed on the target system. However neither of two examples in examples/hello-perl in gettext sources (one using lower level Locale::Messages, one using higher level Locale::TextDomain) includes detecting if the package is installed on the target system, and providing dummy implementation if it is not. What is complicating matter (with respect to detecting if package is installed or not) is the following fragment of Locale::TextDomain manpage: SYNOPSIS use Locale::TextDomain ('my-package', @locale_dirs); use Locale::TextDomain qw (my-package); USAGE It is crucial to remember that you use Locale::TextDomain(3) as specified in the section "SYNOPSIS", that means you have to use it, not require it. The module behaves quite differently compared to other modules. Could you please tell me how one should detect if libintl-perl is present on target system, and how to provide dummy fallthrough implementation if it is not installed?   I have a number of images on a page contained within a single sprite image, these images must be contained within the single sprite due to other requirements of the site. Whilst this is working fine in most browsers I have an issue on Opera Mini where it is not rendering the sprite at all and just displaying the whole image. Is there any CSS that can be used to provide a text alternative when the browser is unable to render the sprite?

• Emacs key binding fallback

  Hey, I have a minor mode. If that mode is active and the user hits DEL, I want to do some action, but only if some condition holds. If the condition holds and the action is executed I want to do nothing more after that. But if the condition fails, I don't want to do anything and let the default DEL action execute. Not sure how I could solve this. But I guess I could do it in two ways: 1) I could rebind the DEL key to a function in the minor mode and then check if the conditions holds ot not. But then how do I know what the default command to DEL is? 2) I could add a pre command hook like this. Execute the command and then break the chain. But how do I break the chain? (add-hook 'pre-command-hook (lambda() (when (equal last-input-event 'backspace) ;; Do something and then stop (do not execute the ;; command that backspace is bound to) ))) In what way would you solve it?   I'm wondering if it is possibile to customize routing in a way that all requests are evaluated by a piece of code, redirected to the relevant controller if a match is found or passed to next rout in list if not found. sample request: /my coolpage/another one the code searches and determine that the right controller for this is Page, action is "list" and id is "123" and so redirects another request: /products/list/5 code finds no match al passes it back to next route that knows how to handle it... any idea on how to do this?

• Macports and virtualenv site-packages Fallback

  I've installed django and python as this link suggested with macports. However, I'd like to use virtualenv to install more packages. My understanding is that if I do not pass in the --no-site-packages to virtualenv, I should get the currently installed packages in addition to whatever packages I install into the virtual environment. Is this correct?   I am trying to set the font-weight for an element based on the font that gets chosen. For example, I may be trying to do something like this: h1 { font-family: Arial Narrow, Impact, sans-serif; font-weight: ?; } Let's say I want the font-weight to be "bold" if the user has Arial Narrow installed on their system, but "normal" if the browser has to use Impact, and maybe "bold" if the user's system has neither of those fonts. Is this possible? If so, how would I go about doing this?

• Planning a skillset for a fallback career [closed]

  I'm not too certain this is a SO question, but I didn't think it belonged in meta either. Long story short, I am bioinformatics researcher. I like to code, it's my favourite part of the job. I have been thinking for a while that if academia is not kind to me, I might seek a career in software development. My current contract is for three years and I would like to spend some time over the next 3 three years learning and practicing software development as possible. Python seems like a popular language and it what I mostly use to do things for me, but I am also in heavy use of R. So my main question is: Are python and R good things to be learning with a sotfware dev goal in mind, and if so, is there any particular type of programming or software that might be useful to have experience with. • Jquery/CSS help needed to make fallback for IE and older browsers

  Wondering if any of you can help me: I've made a signup modal that uses a CSS transform to switch between two methods of signing up. I've decided to try a 'card flip' type effect. Have a look at this JSfiddle in any browser that supports CSS 3D transforms - click the 'old fashioned way' text to 'flip' the modal (simplified for demo purposes): http://jsfiddle.net/voodoo6/cnTMz/8/ Then take a look in IE8/9 - as the 'back' is taller than the front and IE does;t support 'backface-visibility: hidden;' the reverse can be seen below the front. I've been trying to use JQuery and conditional CSS to 'display:none' the 'back' on load in IE (and older browsers), then add a 'display:block;' class to show it on click, problem is, I'm a JQuery beginner and have been struggling to get it to work! Not even sure if this is the best approach? Can anybody suggest an approach that would get this working in less-capable browsers? Thanks for any advice..

• How can I restart compiz from tty? (& Related, how can I set up a fallback WM?)

  So I'm testing Natty, and Compiz keeps crashing on me. I expect this sort of thing from alpha software, of course, but it doesn't always give me the option to restart compiz, and for some reason doesn't have a fallback WM configured. Without a window manager, all my programs are still running, but they're not accepting input from the keyboard, and I can't switch between them. I can, however, press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and get a terminal, and I can killall Xorg to reset everything, but I'd rather just reset compiz if possible. If I try typing compiz --replace there in the tty, it complains "fatal--couldn't open display." Is there a way to have tty1 restart compiz? Like compiz --replace --display=something? Additionally, is there a way to configure a fallback window manager so that there's an easier way to recover from compiz crashing?

• Strange behavior on Gnome after update on from 13.04 to 13.10

  I made an automatic update on my Ubuntu 13.10 (from 13.04) system today. Since this point of time, I am in really big trouble. I use a VNC server with Gnome classic, after the update my Gnome was gone. So i tried everything. Checked the xstartup file of vncserver. Right now I reached a point where I can't find the answer. The logfile says that gnome-session-fallback is missing, even directly after I installed it with apt-get (tried it serveral times, installing, uninstalling and so on). I have no chance to use it as you can see in this terminal copy: root@ip-xxx:~/.vnc# apt-get install gnome-session-fallback Reading package lists... • How i can setup a nginx cache strategy that first try amazon s3, then memcache and do a fallback on miss?

  i have a large site with lot of pages that almost never change, right now i am using two memcache servers (amazon elasticache), but this its really expensive. Thats why for this files that barely never change i want to upload them to amazon s3 and shutdown 1 memcache server. I am also thinking in use the amazon s3 fuse http://code.google.com/p/s3fs/ instead of the proxy pass i think it would be easier for implement, i would also be less performant?

  I've noticed that google app engine seems to have a fair amount of downtime where they place the datastore into read-only mode. Frequently this downtime is in the middle of the day. Is this something that is happening only during early development, or is this something that I can expect to be always be occurring? I've developing an application that helps small businesses handle their operations. One thing that it does is take appointments, another is route phone calls. I'd like some suggestions on how to handle times when the datastore is in read-only such as: What if our client is on the phone with the customer and is taking down an appointment and the datastore is in read-only? It would not be acceptable to ask the client to come back later to save, especially if its in the middle of the day. What if there is an incoming call and the application can not store the record or properly route the call due to database writes being unavailable? How are these types of issues normally handled?

• Can anyone tell me why Gnome 3 looks like as if it were a gnome fallback session in my virtualbox?

  For some reason Gnome 3 wont work in my virtualbox. Both gnome classic and gnome look exactly identical. The version of my virtualbox is: 4.1.2_ Ubuntu r38459 The 3D acceleration is on in the virtualbox and the Guest Additions is installed in the virtualbox from the software center. Obviously, the graphic card driver is installed on the main Ubuntu system I am using with my laptop. (although the post-release updates can't be installed for whatever reason) Gnome shell is installed from the software center in the virtualbox. Now the issue is that the gnome and gnome classic look like just the same. Here is an image of what gnome looks like (so does gnome classic too....so I am only posting one image): What causes this issue? By the way....I am using Ubuntu 11.10 with gnome fallback session.

  Let's say I need to add a drop shadow behind a box. Some old platforms do not support drop shadows, so I have to fake it by putting an image behind the box. From reading the specs, i'd assume this should not change the plugin finding prompt - that is, rendering the fallback should be seen as a failure to render the object tag. Thus, I should still get the plugin finder service prompting me to install Java. Instead, simply adding a single character to the innerHTML of the object element causes Firefox to no longer prompt. Test this by visiting data:text/html,<object type='application/x-java-applet'>Java failed to load</object>. How can I keep firefox prompting to install Java while providing fallback content? • vmdk Recovery after migration from 3.5 to 4 and fallback tentative.

  Hy, I've tryed to migrate some VM from my 3.5i environment to a brand new vSphere 4.0 U1. The two platforms are running simultaneously, sharing the same SAN. I Migrate my VM by stopping it, unregistering in vcenter (esx ver. 3.5, i call it esx3), register in vSphere (esx ver. 4, i call it esx4), and migrate upgrade virtual hardware before powering it up (First mistake). vMotion was enabled on esx4, seem to be a second mistake. After a day or so, i encountred problems joigning the esx server (esx4) and decided to unregister my server for esx4 and fallback to esx3. esx3 refused to boot, i supposed this was due to virtual hardware in Version 7 so i recreated a new VM pointing to the vmdk of the old VM. Everithing seemed fine until i log into the server and discover that i was running on the original disk ith every snapshots ignored even those created on esx3. I tried to reboot VM on esx4 but VM doesn't power up because "The parent virtual disk has been modified since the child was created". I've got a copy of a later state of the drive but generated between two snapshots (ovf generated with canverter standalone) as a backup. Do i have a chance to recover at least some files on the virtual drive or (as i tink) all is played, i've done enought mistakes for this time. Thanks for your help.

  I use everywhere NSLocalizedString(@"Text in deutsch",@"das Textfeld Text in deutsch") I have two Localizable.strings files. One for german and one for english. What I realized now is. If you have a german iPhone, you get the german text, if you have your iPhone set to english you get the english text. But if you have lets say french, then you would get the german text, too because I use german as the keys, right ? Is there a way to set english as fallback language instead of the german one used everywhere in my code ? (I have so many occurences of NSLocalizedString that it would be a pain to change the keys now everywhere (in code, in Localized.string.en and in Localized.string.de))
