• firefox sync not working. tried everything I could think of.

  I had to format my computer once again. But this time when trying to get all my firefox data from the sync server, nothing happened :( I've tried updating firefox. reconnecting to the sync server a couple of times. But as the title says, nothing has happened. I fear that somehow all my data has been whiped, but I have no clue why it should have done that. I think my old FF was running v4b7, but I can't say for sure. Please help! I also tried posting on the firefox forums. But I must say they don't work very well. It doesn't seem like my question even have been posted.

How can I set up a two-way sync to automatically sync the Windows Contact store with Gmail Contacts? Please note: there seems to be a lot of resources for how to sync to outlook, these solutions wouldn't work for me as I'm not using outlook.

• Moonlight extension not working with Firefox 7

  The web browser I use is Firefox (currently in version 7 in Oneiric). According the Compatibility Check information the Moonlight extension is not compatible with FF7. And, actually, I cannot watch Silverlight streams in an acceptable way:the video gets stuck, the HD keeps buffering (I guess), so I have to close the window. Does anybody know if there is a way to fix this or a suitable alternative?

  I want to add other computers to a sync account with Firefox 12 (Windows) In the Firefox support pages, procedures are given for accessing the "Sync Key" and the "Recovery Key": At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Tools menu and select Options. Select the Sync panel. Click Manage Account and then select My Sync Key. Find Sync Key In Firefox 12 under Windows, The "Manage Account" menu on the Sync options dialog has only these choices: View Quota Change Password My Recovery Key Reset Sync Where has the "Sync Key" moved to? Or how is the Sync Key accessed?

• Filter rule for SMS / text messages in exchange active sync (SMS sync)

  Exchange server 2010 introduces SMS Sync (via exchange active sync), which works fine with my android device and the Samsung email app. However, all text messages are synced to my exchange inbox, which is a pain. I'd like to have them filtered to a specific folder. So far, I haven't figured out a useful filter rule for achieving that, since there seems to be no header indicating it's a text message. Has anyone managed to do that? Note that I'm not using Outlook as an email client, so I'm specifically looking for a server-side rule.

• How do I run Firefox OS as a standalone application?

  I got the add-on for the Firefox OS simulator, and it works great! It even keeps functioning after Firefox is closed, so I can save processing power for other things. I'd like to run it as a standalone application, so that I don't even have to open Firefox in the first place. I've gone to the System Monitor, and it says that the process (I guessed which by CPU usage and filename) was started via /home/james/.mozilla/firefox-trunk/vkuuxfit.default/extensions/[email protected]/resources/r2d2b2g/data/linux64/b2g/plugin-container 3386 true tab, so I tried running that in the Terminal (after I'd closed the simulator, of course,) but it gives this: james@james-OptiPlex-GX620:~/.mozilla/firefox-trunk/vkuuxfit.default/extensions/[email protected]/resources/r2d2b2g/data/linux64/b2g$ ./plugin-container 3386 true tab ./plugin-container: error while loading shared libraries: libxpcom.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory james@james-OptiPlex-GX620:~/.mozilla/firefox-trunk/vkuuxfit.default/extensions/[email protected]/resources/r2d2b2g/data/linux64/b2g$ What should I do? • To SYNC or not to SYNC – Part 4

  This is Part 4 of a multi-part blog article where we are discussing various aspects of setting up Data Guard synchronous redo transport (SYNC). In Part 1 of this article, I debunked the myth that Data Guard SYNC is similar to a two-phase commit operation. In Part 2, I discussed the various ways that network latency may or may not impact a Data Guard SYNC configuration. In Part 3, I talked in details regarding why Data Guard SYNC is a good thing, and the distance implications you have to keep in mind. In this final article of the series, I will talk about how you can nicely complement Data Guard SYNC with the ability to failover in seconds. Wait - Did I Say “Seconds”? Did I just say that some customers do Data Guard failover in seconds? Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. Data Guard has an automatic failover capability, aptly called Fast-Start Failover. Initially available with Oracle Database 10g Release 2 for Data Guard SYNC transport mode (and enhanced in Oracle Database 11g to support Data Guard ASYNC transport mode), this capability, managed by Data Guard Broker, lets your Data Guard configuration automatically failover to a designated standby database. Yes, this means no human intervention is required to do the failover. This process is controlled by a low footprint Data Guard Broker client called Observer, which makes sure that the primary database and the designated standby database are behaving like good kids. If something bad were to happen to the primary database, the Observer, after a configurable threshold period, tells that standby, “Your time has come, you are the chosen one!” The standby dutifully follows the Observer directives by assuming the role of the new primary database. The DBA or the Sys Admin doesn’t need to be involved. And - in case you are following this discussion very closely, and are wondering … “Hmmm … what if the old primary is not really dead, but just network isolated from the Observer or the standby - won’t this lead to a split-brain situation?” The answer is No - It Doesn’t. With respect to why-it-doesn’t, I am sure there are some smart DBAs in the audience who can explain the technical reasons. Otherwise - that will be the material for a future blog post. So - this combination of SYNC and Fast-Start Failover is the nirvana of lights-out, integrated HA and DR, as practiced by some of our advanced customers. They have observed failover times (with no data loss) ranging from single-digit seconds to tens of seconds. With this, they support operations in industry verticals such as manufacturing, retail, telecom, Internet, etc. that have the most demanding availability requirements. One of our leading customers with massive cloud deployment initiatives tells us that they know about server failures only after Data Guard has automatically completed the failover process and the app is back up and running! Needless to mention, Data Guard Broker has the integration hooks for interfaces such as JDBC and OCI, or even for custom apps, to ensure the application gets automatically rerouted to the new primary database after the database level failover completes. Net Net? To sum up this multi-part blog article, Data Guard with SYNC redo transport mode, plus Fast-Start Failover, gives you the ideal triple-combo - that is, it gives you the assurance that for critical outages, you can failover your Oracle databases: very fast without human intervention, and without losing any data. In short, it takes the element of risk out of critical IT operations. It does require you to be more careful with your network and systems planning, but as far as HA is concerned, the benefits outweigh the investment costs. • AS11 Oracle B2B Sync Support - Series 2

  In the earlier series, we discussed about how to model "Sync Support" in Oracle B2B. And, we haven't discussed how the response can be consumed synchronously by the back-end application or initiator of sync request. In this sequel, we will see how we can extend it to the SOA composite applications to model the end-to-end usecase, this would help the initiator of sync request to receive the response synchronously. Series 2 - is little lengthier for blog standards so be prepared before you continue further :). Let's start our discussion with a high-level scenario where one need to initiate a synchronous request and get response synchronously. There are various approaches available, we will see one simplest approach here. Components Involved: 1. Oracle B2B 2. Oracle JCA JMS Adapter 3. Oracle BPEL 4. All of the above are wrapped up in a single SOA composite application. Oracle B2B: Skipping the "Sync Support" setup part in B2B, as we have already discussed that in the earlier series 1. Here we have provided "Sync Support" samples that can be imported to B2B directly and users can start testing the same in few minutes. Initiator Sample: This requires two JMS queues to be created, one for B2B to receive initial outbound sync request and the other is for B2B to deliver the incoming sync response to the back-end. Please enable "Use JMS Id" option in both internal listening and delivery channels. This would enable JCA JMS Adapter to correlate the initial B2B request and response and in turn it would be returned as synchronous response of BPEL. Internal Listening Channel Image: Internal Delivery Channel Image: To get going without much challenges, just create queues in Weblogic with the JNDI mentioned in the above two screenshots. If you want to use different names, then you may have to change the queue jndi names in sample after importing it into B2B. Here are the Queue related JNDI names used in the sample, 1. Internal Listening Channel Queue details, Name: JNDI Name: jms/b2b/syncreplyqueue 2. Internal Delivery Channel Queue details, Name: JNDI Name: jms/b2b/syncrequestqueue Here is the Initiator Sample Acme.zip Note: You may have to adjust the ip address of GlobalChips endpoint in the Delivery Channel. Responder Sample: Contains B2B meta-data and the Callout. Just import the sample and place the callout binary under "/tmp/callout" directory. If you choose to use a different location for callout, then you may have to change the same in B2B Configuration after importing the sample. Here are the artifacts, 1. Callout Source SampleCallout.java 2. Callout Binary sample-callout.jar 3. Responder Sample GlobalChips.zip Callout Details: Just gives the static response XML that needs to be sent back as response for the inbound sync request. For a sample purpose, we have given static response but in production you may have to invoke a web service or something similar to get the response. IMPORTANT NOTE: For Sync Support use case, responder is not expected to deliver the inbound sync request to backend as the process of delivering and getting the response from backend are expected from the Callout. This default behavior can be overridden by enabling the config property "b2b.SyncAppDelivery=true" in B2B config mbean (b2b-config.xml). This makes B2B to deliver the inbound sync request to be delivered to backend queue but the response to be sent to remote caller still has to come from Callout. 2. Oracle JCA JMS Adapter: On the initiator side, we have used JCA JMS Request/Reply pattern to send/receive the synchronous message from B2B. 3. Oracle BPEL: Exposes WS-SOAP Endpoint that takes payload as input and passes the same to B2B and returns the synchronous response of B2B as SOAP response. For outside world, it looks as if it is the synchronous web service endpoint but under the cover it uses JMS to trigger/initiate B2B to send and receive the synchronous response. 4. Composite application: All the components discussed above are wired in SOA composite application that helps to model a end-to-end synchronous use case. Here's the composite application sca_B2BSyncSample_rev1.0.jar, you may just deploy this to your AS11 SOA to make use of it. For any editing, you can just import the project in your JDEV under any SOA Application. • How do I add additional parameters to query string of a Firefox Search Plugin?

  I have just installed the DuckDuckGo add-on in Firefox 11.0, running on XP SP 3. I would like to add additional parameters to the query string. However, any changes I make are not reflected in the query string when doing a search. I found the duckduckgo.xml file at C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Profile Name.default\searchplugins. I opened it up with Notepad++ and added the line for kl=uk-en: <SearchPlugin xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/2006/browser/search/" xmlns:os="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/"> <os:ShortName>DuckDuckGo</os:ShortName> <os:Description>Search DuckDuckGo (SSL)</os:Description> <os:InputEncoding>UTF-8</os:InputEncoding> <os:Image width="16" height="16">data:image/x-icon;base64, -Removed to shorten-</os:Image> <os:Url type="text/html" method="GET" template="https://duckduckgo.com/"> <os:Param name="q" value="{searchTerms}"/> <os:Param name="kl" value="uk-en"/> </os:Url> </SearchPlugin> However, the kl=uk-en parameter does not appear in the query string when searching (despite several Firefox restarts).

• How to efficiently preserve a really big navigation history in Firefox?

  When I was using Mac, my Firefox stored items in its history for really long times. Sometimes I needed to find a link to a site I have seen two years ago and it found it! Also, the autocomplete in the Firefox bar is really great, so a long history and the autocompleting yield a wonderful feature to me. Unfortunately, it seems this does not happen in Ubuntu's Firefox. I looked for solutions but I just got some Firefox developers saying the option of expanding history is out for performance issues and one is well advised to not try to change it (which read to me as saying "we cannot make it work well so we limit the scope"). Anyway, my question is: is there a way of efficiently expand the size of Firefox history? Sorry for my bitterness, but a solution with strings attached (mostly say that I should not do it, like this addon) is not solution for me. Does someone have the same need of mine and found a solution?

• Faster two way Boomark/History Sync for Firefox?

  I need a fast automatic two-way bookmark & history sync. Firefox sync seems too slow because I might bookmark/visit a URL then within a few mins put desktop to sleep and leave the house; if it hasn't synced, then I don't have a way of getting it on my laptop (or vice versa). My home upload is only around 200kbps so maybe that's why FF sync seems slow? (I mean it's minutes, not seconds slow). I have read there are a few ways like xmarks/delicious/google but I don't want clutter like extra toolbars or have to visit a site to get bookmarks, they should be as native in the Firefox bookmarks bar as possible, organised in the folders/tags. I know someone must have experimented/know more about this. Thanks.

  I've just installed Firefox 11. I'd like to sync it with the one on my Android device. I tried to follow the instructions they provided and tried to pair device. I entered the code from Android to desktop. This made my phone show a window showing 'Waiting for device' and a progress bar running all over again. Than I tried to use 'I'm not near my computer' option on Android. I am asked for email, password and a recovery key. So I googled a little and found an instruction. I go to Options/Sync. But there are only 2 options: Set Up Firefox Sync Pair a device So how can I get this recovery key?

• Firefox-Addon: Restart and save all current tabs and windows

  Hello guys / gals, First off, this is my first attempt at writing an add-on. That being said, I am attempting to write an add-on that makes some configuration changes and needs to restart Firefox in order to have the changes take effect. I am currently restarting Firefox using the following code: var boot = Components.classes["@mozilla.org/toolkit/app-startup;1"].getService(Components.interfaces.nsIAppStartup); boot.quit(Components.interfaces.nsIAppStartup.eForceQuit|Components.interfaces.nsIAppStartup.eRestart); The problem is, it restarts and opens the browser window(s) to whatever the users homepage is currently set to. I want it to re-open all windows / tabs that were previously open before the restart (similar to what happens when you install a new add-on). Anyone ever messed with this type of functionality before?

• Firefox extension that overlays persistent iFrame?

  Is it possible to build a Firefox extension that displays a floating, persistent iFrame over the page content? I know it's possible to add iFrames using XUL. For instance, you can add an iFrame to a persistent sidebar. However, I want the iFrame to float over the page content, not cause the content to shrink. So far, my only option is to add the iFrame to the DOM, then use CSS "fixed" positioning to float the iFrame. The iFrame must also persist across page loads, exactly as the sidebar does. Adding an iFrame to the DOM, unfortunately, causes the iFrame to vanish when the browser renders a new page (e.g., after clicking a link). Any clues? Thanks!

• How to prevent blocking http auth popups on firefox restart with many tabs open

  I am using the latest firefox with tab mix plus and tabgoups manager. I have maybe 50 or 100 tabs oben in different tab groups. When I shutdown firefox and start it again all tabs and tab groups are perfectly rebuilt. But I have also many pages open that are behind a standard http auth, and these pages all request their usernames and passwords. So during startup firefox pops up all these pages' http auth windows. And they block everything else in firefox, they are like modal windows. (I am involved in website development and the beta versions are behind apache http auth.) I have to click many times the OK button in the popups, before I can do anything. All the usernames and passwords are already filled in. (And the firefox taskbar entry blinks and the firefox window heading also blinks, and focus switches back and foth, which also annoys me. And sometimes the popups do not react to my clicks, because firefox is maybe just switching focus somewhere else. This is the worst.) I want a plugin or some way to skip those popups. There are some plugins I tried some time ago, but they did not do what I need, because they require a mouse click for each login, which is no improvement over the situation like it already is. This is not about password storage (because firefox already stores them). But of course, if some password storing plugin could heal this it would be great.

• Firefox logs invalid URL?

  I'm writing an extension for firefox. Using dom.location to keep track of visited search results pages, i'm getting this url http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=hi&aq=f&aqi=&oq=&fp=642c18fb4411ca2e . If you click it, the google search results for "hi" should come up. You'll know that from the title bar - because the rest of the page won't load. This happens with any google search. Oddly enough, if you cut part of it off, so say, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=hi - it works! But Googling "hi" myself does give me a longish URL - http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=hi&aq=f&aqi=&oq=&fp=db658cc5049dc510 . I know for a fact that the first time that URL was visited, the page loaded, I did it myself. Can anyone make reason out of this? I just tried my experiment again, this time saving the original URL in the location bar. It turns out, dom.location.href is giving a different value. How is this happening?
