  Hello, I am looking for a cheap solution to my problem: I need to find either a common device (that is used in restaurants, bars clubs) or a cheap new device that can connect to internet (via the already existing ethernet or wireless based internet) and do HTTP request/receive response and retrieve information ? (For instance can a POS device connect to internet?) For a project, I need to do identity validation on several restaurants and bars and not all of them have computers. So I will be giving "cheap and easy to use devices" and non-IT personal can use it to do http request to my server and get response. All I can think of is Cell phones and SMS.

  Hello Assume I have these datatime variables: start_time, end_time, current_time I would like to know how much time left as percentage by checking current_time and the time delta between start_time and the end_time Like if the interval is a 24 hours, and between now and end_time, there are 6 hours left, %25 should be left.   Hello, I am planning to implement a basic recommendation system that uses Facebook Connect or similar social networking site API's to connect a users profile, based on tags do an analyze and by using the results, generate item recommendations on my e-commerce site(works similar to Amazon). I do believe I need to divide parts into such: Fetching social networking data via API's.(Indeed user allows this) Analyze these data and generate tokes. By using information tokens, do item recommendations on my e-commerce site. Ie: I am a fan of "The Strokes" band on my Facebook account, system analyze this and recommending me "The Strokes Live" CD. For any part(fetching data, doing recommendation based on tags...), what algorithm and method would you recommend/ is used ? Thanks

  Hello, I have an ecommerce website that works in a classical way: people sign up, buy a product with their CC. It uses the default Django auth system for users and registration and session framework. Now I want to implement a referral system to my system where people can invite other people by giving their referral link (ie mysite.com/referral/123123/ ) and if a person signs up AND buys an item, the inviter gets 5$. How can this the implemented ?

• Django with custom authentication backends, is Csrf middleware really required ?

  Hello, Under Django 1.1.1, I am using several authentication backends such as social-registration for facebook connect and django-emailauth for email based authentication instead of user names. I am curious if the Csrf middleware is an essential security measure as it seems like it sometimes generates problems, especially with facebook connect. My project is rather simple. Each user have a profile which they can fill and a purchase page where they fill the payment for to do purchases. Either of these pages are protected via @login_required.

• Tag/Keyword based recommendation

  Hello I am wondering what algorithm would be clever to use for a tag driven e-commerce enviroment: Each item has several tags. IE: Item name: "Metallica - Black Album CD", Tags: "metallica", "black-album", "rock", "music" Each user has several tags and friends(other users) bound to them. IE: Username: "testguy", Interests: "python", "rock", "metal", "computer-science" Friends: "testguy2", "testguy3" I need to generate recommendations to such users by checking their interest tags and generating recommendations in a sophisticated way. Ideas: A Hybrid recommendation algorithm can be used as each user has friends.(mixture of collaborative + context based recommendations). Maybe using user tags, similar users (peers) can be found to generate recommendations. Maybe directly matching tags between users and items via tags. Any suggestion is welcome. Any python based library is also welcome as I will be doing this experimental engine on python language.

I am curious what library is recommended for this, aswell as how shall I be doing the apache2 config file ? • String Occurance Counting Algorithm

  Hello, I am curious what is the most efficient algorithm (or commonly used) to count the number of occurances of a string in a chunck of text. From what I read, Boyer–Moore string search algorithm is the standard for string search but I am not sure if counting occurance in an efficient way would be same as searching a string. In python this is what I want: text_chunck = "one two three four one five six one" occurance_count(text_chunck, "one") # gives 3. Regards EDIT: It seems like python str.count serves me such method however I am not able to find what algorithm it uses.

• Django updating a single model

  Hello How can I use the update() method on a single model which I retrieved via Queryset.get() ? It seems like model. Model doesn't have an update() method yet I cannot invoke .save() as I have a pre-save signals which messes things up. EDIT: An idea would be passing some parameter to the save method and catching it at the pre_save signal, so that I can understand the purpose, how can this be done ? Thanks

  Hello, I am trying develop a basic referrer system to my Django website, system will be generating a unique url for each users to share with their friends. Once these friends enter this website, system somehow keep the data that "this user is browsing by the reference of X user" and once this invited person decided to register for an account, system will save this information (maybe as an extra Foreign Key of the inviting user in the UserProfile model) Now how can I keep track of the inviting user from the moment entering using the referred link to the point where he/she registers to the site. Would session framework work on this? If not how could this be done ?

For this I am using a file named chicago.sty, Document compiles however I do not see any reference or citation.Instead I somehow get error when reading the paper.blg file: This is BibTeX, Version 0.99cThe top-level auxiliary file: paper.aux I couldn't open style file chicago.bst ---line 62 of file paper.aux : \bibstyle{chicago} What is a blg file, and how can I generate it from the .sty file so that my citations and references display properly.   Hello, I am an absolute newbie in Haskell yet trying to understand how it works. I want to write my own lazy list of integers such as [1,2,3,4,5...]. For list of ones I have written ones = 1 : ones and when tried, works fine: *Main> take 10 ones [1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1] How can I do the same for increasing integers ? • Open SSL without SHA1

  Is there any way to use Open SSL without any SHA1 hash functions and using one of SHA2 functions instead of it? I think firstly, I should find all the functions that call SHA1 algorithm, and I should understand why SHA1 is still used. While changing the hash function, the bits are different in SHA1 and SHA2 so it may cause some problems. It confuses me...
