  SQLSaturday #141 South Florida 2012 will be here in less than 3 months! This is a training event for SQL Server professionals and those wanting to learn about SQL Server. This event will be held June 16, 2012 at Nova Southeastern University, Davie, FL 33314. The focus is on providing a good variety of topics, and making it all happen through the efforts of volunteers.   Herve Roggero, SQL Azure MVP,  has created a virtual community to focus on Azure. Here is the outline from Herve:   User Group Name:  Azure Florida Association Purpose: Start a virtual Florida user group that targets the Azure platform Venues: Most meetings will be virtual; however I plan to host a few physical events across Florida if possible from time to time; physical events may be a few hours long with potentially more than one speaker Possible Topics: The topics will touch Azure generally speaking, but can have a wide array of concern such as Integration, Data Migration, Hosting, Security, Scalability, Mobile Device integration, successful ventures/lessons learned, cross cloud integration patterns, testing in the cloud, deployment management, reporting… Target Members: Architects, Developers, IT Managers Membership: Membership will be free; virtual events will be free; physical events may involve a minimal cover charge Speakers: If you are interested in speaking or if you have topic ideas, please let me know Frequency: Initially these meetings will be held every other month   The first meeting will be held on January 25, 2012 at 4PM EST. Vikas Sahni, SQL Azure MVP, will be presenting on Demystifying SQL Azure.   One of the hotest technology topics of the day is Azure. Being a SQL guy, I am all over this technology, especially SQL Azure. So much so that Herve Roggero and I are currently writing a book for APress on SQL Azure. This book will be out in September and will include deep and thorough coverage of SQL Azure, best practices, and how-to's. We are excited about this book and the technology. However, we'd like to hear from you. As we go around evangelizing SQL Azure at user groups, code camps, and SQL Saturday's, we see the range of "heard of it" to "experimenting with it". Very few are actually doing something with Azure. I'd like to know what your concerns/questions are regarding Azure.  More specifically, what functionality do you think is cool as well as what is lacking, and what would be your list of "must have's" to do something with Azure. We hear a lot regarding security concerns, lack of backup/restore, etc. Is there more? Herve and I will be posting frequently as we write to let you know what we find, what is cool, and what you can look forward to. I'm heading to Tech-Ed in June and hopefully will come back with some great things to tell you!

• Devfish Joe Healy in Fort Lauderdale - Cloud Computing and Azure - 03/11/2010 MSDN Tiki Hut

  Devfish Joe Healy, Brian Hitney, and Herve Rogero presented excellent sessions on today's MSDN Tiki Hut Event about  Cloud Computing and Azure. This was an developer focused event, starting out with an overview about structure and platform, followed by working code samples running on the platform, and all needed information to get developers started on development for cloud applications. Participants had Q&A opportunities after each session and made good use of it. I am sure that a lot of developers will jump on the Azure train. Azure is on top of my dev project list after that great event! This platform offers endless opportunities for development and businesses. The cloud environment in general is safer, scales better, and is far more cost effective compared to run and maintain your own data center. Posted: Rainer Habermann

• 3rd Annual South Florida SQL Saturday - August 13th!

  The 3rd annual South Florida SQL Saturday event will be help August 13th, 2011 at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL. This is a change in venue from last year as DeVry is in the middle of a major remodling project. We has almost 450 last year, and we expect to have over 500 this year with great speakers such as Andy Warren, Herve Roggero, and more! As always, we our goal is to feed you well, so we are shooting for some hot lunch food this year. We are working on that now and will update you as soon as we firm it up. One of the things we will be trying this year is 90-100 minute sessions on a couple of tracks. We strongly feel that several topics are just getting warmed up in 45 minutes, so we are going to experiment with 90-100 minute sessions on some of the BI topics. We would love to see you there!
