• ASP.NET MVC CRUD PartialView Popup Issue

    - by Smiley Face
    I am creating an MVC website which makes use of Partial Views on Popups to handle all my CRUD transactions. Please note that my application can already handle these CRUD operations perfectly (LINQ-To-Entity). However, I have a problem with my popup forms. Below is the code from my _Add.cshtml: @model MyStore.Models.MyModels.ProductsModel @{ Layout = null; } @using (Ajax.BeginForm("_Add", "Products", new AjaxOptions { InsertionMode = InsertionMode.Replace, HttpMethod = "POST", OnSuccess = "addSuccess" }, new { @id = "addForm" })) { @Html.ValidationSummary(true)

<fieldset> <legend>Products</legend> @Html.HiddenFor(m => Model.ProductCode)
@Html.LabelFor(model => model.ProductName)

@Html.EditorFor(model => model.ProductName) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.ProductName)

@Html.LabelFor(model => model.Price)

@Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Price) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Price)
</fieldset> } Below is the code from my Controller: [HttpGet] public ActionResult _Add(string productCode) { ProductsModel model = newProductsModel(); model.ProductCode = ProductCode ; return PartialView(model); } [HttpPost] public JsonResult _Add(ProductsModel model) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { ProductsManager prod = new ProductsManager(); Products pa = new Products(); pa.ProductCode = model.ProductCode; pa.ProductName = model.ProductName; pa.Price = model.Price; prod.AddProduct(pa); return Json(HelperClass.SuccessResponse(pa), JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); } else { return Json(HelperClass.ErrorResponse("Please review your form"), JsonRequestBehavior.DenyGet); } } Please note that the _Add.cshtml is a partial view which is being rendered through a Popup.js which I found on the internet. It is rendered through this code: @Html.ActionLink("[Add Product]", "_Add", new { ProductCode = @ViewData["ProductCode"] }, new { @class = "editLink" }) This works okay. I mean it adds product to my database. But my problem is upon clicking the Proceed button, I get this pop-up download dialog from the page: Can somebody please help me with this? I have a hunch it's because of the HttpMethod i'm using (POST, PUT, GET, DELETE) but i'm not really sure which one is right to use or if it really is the problem in the first place. Any help would be greatly appreciated! PS. Sorry for the long post.

  • ASP.NET MVC 2 client-side validation rules not being created

    - by Brant Bobby
    MVC isn't generating the client-side validation rules for my viewmodel. The HTML just contains this: Note that Fields[] is empty! My view is strongly-typed and uses the new strongly-typed HTML helpers (TextBoxFor(), etc). View Model / Domain Model public class ItemFormViewModel { public Item Item { get; set; } [Required] [StringLength(100)] public string Whatever { get; set; } // for demo } [MetadataType(typeof(ItemMetadata))] public class Item { public string Name { get; set; } public string SKU { get; set; } public int QuantityRequired { get; set; } // etc. } public class ItemMetadata { [Required] [StringLength(100)] public string Name { get; set; } [Required] [StringLength(50)] public string SKU { get; set; } [Range(0, Int32.MaxValue)] public int QuantityRequired { get; set; } // etc. } (I know I'm using a domain model as my / as part of my view model, which isn't a good practice, but disregard that for now.) View <%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<ItemFormViewModel>" %> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server">
Editing item: <%= Html.Encode(Model.Item.Name) %>
<% Html.EnableClientValidation(); %> <%= Html.ValidationSummary("Could not save the item.") %> <% using (Html.BeginForm()) { %> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Item.Name) %> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Item.SKU) %> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Item.QuantityRequired) %> <%= Html.HiddenFor(model => model.Item.ItemID) %> <%= Html.TextBox("Whatever", Model.Whatever) %>  <% } %> </asp:Content> I included the Whatever property on the view model because I suspected that MVC wasn't recursively inspecting the sub-properties of ItemFormViewModel.Item, but even that isn't being validated? I've even tried delving into the MVC framework source code but have come up empty. What could be going on?

  • ListBoxFor not populating with selected items

    - by user576838
    I've see this question asked a couple of other times, and I followed this after I tried things on my own with the MS music store demo to no avail, but I still can't get this to work. I've also noticed when I look at my MultiSelectList object in the viewmodel, it has the correct items in the selected items property, but if I expand the results view, it doesn't have any listboxitem with the selected value. What am I missing here? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! Thanks in advance. model: public class Article { public int ArticleID { get; set; } public DateTime? DatePurchased { get; set; } public DateTime? LastWorn { get; set; } public string ThumbnailImg { get; set; } public string LargeImg { get; set; } public virtual List<Outfit> Outfits { get; set; } public virtual List<Tag> Tags { get; set; } } viewmodel: public class ArticleViewModel { public int ArticleID { get; set; } public List<Tag> Tags { get; set; } public MultiSelectList mslTags { get; set; } public virtual Article Article { get; set; } public ArticleViewModel(int ArticleID) { using (ctContext db = new ctContext()) { this.Article = db.Articles.Find(ArticleID); this.Tags = db.Tags.ToList(); this.mslTags = new MultiSelectList(this.Tags, "TagID", "Name", this.Article.Tags); } } } controller: public ActionResult Index() { ArticleIndexViewModel vm = new ArticleIndexViewModel(db); return View(vm); } view: @model ClosetTracker.ArticleViewModel @using (Html.BeginForm()) { @Html.HiddenFor(m => m.ArticleID); @Html.LabelFor(m => m.Article.Tags) @* @Html.ListBoxFor(m => m.Article.Tags, Model.Tags.Select(t => new SelectListItem { Text = t.Name, Value = t.TagID.ToString() }), new { Multiple = "multiple" }) *@ @Html.ListBoxFor(m => m.Article.Tags, Model.mslTags); @Html.LabelFor(m => m.Article.LastWorn) @Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.Article.LastWorn, new { @class = "datepicker" }) @Html.LabelFor(m => m.Article.DatePurchased) @Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.Article.DatePurchased, new { @class = "datepicker" })

} EDITED Ok, I changed around the constructor of the MultiSelectList to have a list of TagID in the selected value arg instead of a list of Tag objects. This shows the correct tags as selected in the results view when I watch the mslTags object in debug mode. However, it still isn't rendering correctly to the page. public class ArticleViewModel { public int ArticleID { get; set; } public List<Tag> Tags { get; set; } public MultiSelectList mslTags { get; set; } public virtual Article Article { get; set; } public ArticleViewModel(int ArticleID) { using (ctContext db = new ctContext()) { this.Article = db.Articles.Find(ArticleID); this.Tags = db.Tags.ToList(); this.mslTags = new MultiSelectList(this.Tags, "TagID", "Name", this.Article.Tags.Select(t => t.TagID).ToList()); } } }

  • ASP.Net MVC 2 is it possible to get the same instance of model(with slight changes) in HttpPost meth

    - by jjjjj
    Hi I have a complex entity User: public class User : BaseEntity { public virtual Taxi Taxi { get; set; } --> That is why i call it "complex" public virtual string Login { get; set; } public virtual string Password { get; set; } } where Taxi is a parent of User (Taxi has-many Users): public class Taxi : BaseEntity { public virtual string Name { get; set; } public virtual string ClientIp { get; set; } } BaseEntity consists of public virtual int Id { get; private set; } The problem occurs while trying to edit User [Authorize] public ActionResult ChangeAccountInfo() { var user = UserRepository.GetUser(User.Identity.Name); return View(user); } My ChangeAccountInfo.aspx <fieldset> <legend>Fields</legend> <% %>
<%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.Login) %>

<%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Login) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Login) %>

<%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.Password) %>

<%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Password) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Password) %>

<%: Html.HiddenFor(model => model.Taxi.Name)%>

</fieldset> Post changes: [Authorize] [HttpPost] public ActionResult ChangeAccountInfo(User model) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { UserRepository.UpdateUser(model); return RedirectToAction("ChangeAccountInfoSuccess", "Account"); } return View(model); } But, the (User model) parameter has User.Id == 0 -- User entity had 5 before edit User.Login == "my new login" User.Password == "my new password" User.Taxi.Id == 0 -- User.Taxi entity had 3 before edit User.Taxi.Name == "old hidden name" User.Taxi.ClientIp == null -- User entity had 192.168.0.1 before edit Q: Is it possible not to mark all the fields of an entity (that should be in my UpdateUser) with tag "hidden" but still have them unchanged in my HttpPost method? e.g. not User.Taxi.ClientIp = null, but User.Taxi.ClientIp = 192.168.0.1 I'm using nhibernate, if it matters.

  • Correct way to edit and update complex viewmodel objects using asp.net-mvc2 and entity framework

    - by jslatts
    I have a table in my database with a one to many relationship to another table: ParentObject ID Name Description ChildObject ID Name Description ParentObjectID AnotherObjectID The objects are mapped into Entity Framework and exposed through a data access class. It seemed like ViewModels are recommended when the data to be displayed greatly differs from the domain object, so I created a ViewModel as follows: public class ViewModel { public IList<ParentObject> ParentObjects { get; set; } public ParentObject selectedObject { get; set; } public IList<ChildObject> ChildObjects { get; set; } } I have a view that displays a list of ParentObjects and when clicked will allow a ChildObject to be modified saved. <% using (Html.BeginForm()) { %>
<% foreach (var parent in Model.ParentObjects) { %>

ObjectID [<%= Html.Encode(parent.ID)%>]

<%= Html.Encode(parent.Name)%>

<%= Html.Encode(parent.Description)%>

<% } %>
<% if (Model.ParentObject != null) { %>
Name:
<%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.ParentObject.Name) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.ParentObject.Name, "*")%>

Description:
<%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.ParentObject.Description) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.ParentObject.Description, "*")%>

Child Objects
<% for (int i = 0; i < Model.ParentObject.ChildObjects.Count(); i++) { %>
<%= Html.DisplayTextFor(sd => sd.ChildObjects[i].Name) %>

<%= Html.HiddenFor(sd => sd.ChildObjects[i].ID )%> <%= Html.TextBoxFor( sd => sd.ChildObjects[i].Description) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(sd => sd.ChildObjects[i].Description, "*") %>
<% } } } %> This all works fine. My question is around the best way to update the EF objects and persist the changes back to the database. I initially tried: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Edit(ViewModel viewModel) { ParentObject parent = myRepository.GetParentObjectByID(viewModel.SelectedObject.ID); if ((!ModelState.IsValid) || !TryUpdateModel(parent, "SelectedObject", new[] { "Name", "Description" })) { || !TryUpdateModel(parent.ChildObjects, "ChildObjects", new[] { "Name", "Description" })) { //Code to handle failure and return the current model snipped return View(viewModel); } myRepository.Save(); return RedirectToAction("Edit"); } When I try to save a change to the child object, I get this exception: Entities in 'MyEntities.ChildObject' participate in the 'FK_ChildObject_AnotherObject' relationship. 0 related 'AnotherObject' were found. 1 'AnotherObject' is expected. Investigation on StackOverflow and generally googling led me to this blog post that seems to describe my problem: TryUpdateModel() does not correctly handle nested collections. Apparently, (and stepping through the debugger confirms this) it creates a new ChildObject instead of associating with the EF objects from my instantiated context. My hacky work around is this: if (viewModel.ChildObjects.Count > 0) { foreach (ChildObject modelChildObject in viewModel.ChildObjects) { ChildObject childToUpdate = ParentObject.ChildObject.Where(a => a.ID == modelChildObject.ID).First(); childToUpdate.Name = modelChildObject.Name; } } This seems to work fine. My question to you good folks: Is there correct way to do this? I tried following the suggestion for making a custom model binder per the blog link I posted above but it didn't work (there was an issue with reflection) and I needed to get something going ASAP. PS - I tried to cleanup the code to hide specific information, so beware I may have hosed something up. I mainly just want to know if other people have solved this problem. Thanks!

  • Html.BeginForm() not rendering properly

    - by Taskos George
    While searching in stackoverflow the other questions didn't exactly helped in my situation. How it would be possible to debug such an error like the one that the Html.BeginForm does not properly rendered to the page. I use this code @model ExtremeProduction.Models.SelectUserGroupsViewModel @{ ViewBag.Title = "User Groups"; }
Groups for user @Html.DisplayFor(model => model.UserName)

@using (Html.BeginForm("UserGroups", "Account", FormMethod.Post, new { encType = "multipart/form-data", id = "userGroupsForm" })) { @Html.AntiForgeryToken()
@Html.ValidationSummary(true)

@Html.HiddenFor(model => model.UserName)

Select Group Assignments

Select

Group

@Html.EditorFor(model => model.Groups)

}
@Html.ActionLink("Back to List", "Index")
EDIT: Added the Model // Wrapper for SelectGroupEditorViewModel to select user group membership: public class SelectUserGroupsViewModel { public string UserName { get; set; } public string FirstName { get; set; } public string LastName { get; set; } public List<SelectGroupEditorViewModel> Groups { get; set; } public SelectUserGroupsViewModel() { this.Groups = new List<SelectGroupEditorViewModel>(); } public SelectUserGroupsViewModel(ApplicationUser user) : this() { this.UserName = user.UserName; this.FirstName = user.FirstName; this.LastName = user.LastName; var Db = new ApplicationDbContext(); // Add all available groups to the public list: var allGroups = Db.Groups; foreach (var role in allGroups) { // An EditorViewModel will be used by Editor Template: var rvm = new SelectGroupEditorViewModel(role); this.Groups.Add(rvm); } // Set the Selected property to true where user is already a member: foreach (var group in user.Groups) { var checkUserRole = this.Groups.Find(r => r.GroupName == group.Group.Name); checkUserRole.Selected = true; } } } // Used to display a single role group with a checkbox, within a list structure: public class SelectGroupEditorViewModel { public SelectGroupEditorViewModel() { } public SelectGroupEditorViewModel(Group group) { this.GroupName = group.Name; this.GroupId = group.Id; } public bool Selected { get; set; } [Required] public int GroupId { get; set; } public string GroupName { get; set; } } public class Group { public Group() { } public Group(string name) : this() { Roles = new List<ApplicationRoleGroup>(); Name = name; } [Key] [Required] public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual string Name { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<ApplicationRoleGroup> Roles { get; set; } } ** EDIT ** And I get this form http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz268/gtas/formmine_zpsf6470e02.png I should receive a form like the one that I copied the code like this http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz268/gtas/formcopied_zpsdb2f129e.png Any ideas where or how to look the source of evil that makes my life hard for some time now?

  • ASP.net MVC 2.0 using the same form for adding and editing.

    - by Chevex
    I would like to use the same view for editing a blog post and adding a blog post. However, I'm having an issue with the ID. When adding a blog post, I have no need for an ID value to be posted. When model binding binds the form values to the BlogPost object in the controller, it will auto-generate the ID in entity framework entity. When I am editing a blog post I DO need a hidden form field to store the ID in so that it accompanies the next form post. Here is the view I have right now. <% using (Html.BeginForm("CommitEditBlogPost", "Admin")) { %> <% if (Model != null) { %> <%: Html.HiddenFor(x => x.Id)%> <% } %> Title:
<%: Html.TextBoxFor(x => x.Title, new { Style = "Width: 90%;" })%>

Summary:
<%: Html.TextAreaFor(x => x.Summary, new { Style = "Width: 90%; Height: 50px;" }) %>

Body:
<%: Html.TextAreaFor(x => x.Body, new { Style = "Height: 250px; Width: 90%;" })%>

<% } %> Right now checking if the model is coming in NULL is a great way to know if I'm editing a blog post or adding one, because when I'm adding one it will be null as it hasn't been created yet. The problem comes in when there is an error and the entity is invalid. When the controller renders the form after an invalid model the Model != null evaluates to false, even though we are editing a post and there is clearly a model. If I render the hidden input field for ID when adding a post, I get an error stating that the ID can't be null. Any help is appreciated. EDIT: I went with OJ's answer for this question, however I discovered something that made me feel silly and I wanted to share it just in case anyone was having a similar issue. The page the adds/edits blogs does not even need a hidden field for id, ever. The reason is because when I go to add a blog I do a GET to this relative URL BlogProject/Admin/AddBlogPost This URL does not contain an ID and the action method just renders the page. The page does a POST to the same URL when adding the blog post. The incoming BlogPost entity has a null Id and is generated by EF during save changes. The same thing happens when I edit blog posts. The URL is BlogProject/Admin/EditBlogPost/{Id} This URL contains the id of the blog post and since the page is posting back to the exact same URL the id goes with the POST to the action method that executes the edit. The only problem I encountered with this is that the action methods cannot have identical signatures. [HttpGet] public ViewResult EditBlogPost(int Id) { } [HttpPost] public ViewResult EditBlogPost(int Id) { } The compiler will yell at you if you try to use these two methods above. It is far too convenient that the Id will be posted back when doing a Html.BeginForm() with no arguments for action or controller. So rather than change the name of the POST method I just modified the arguments to include a FormCollection. Like this: [HttpPost] public ViewResult EditBlogPost(int Id, FormCollection formCollection) { // You can then use formCollection as the IValueProvider for UpdateModel() // and TryUpdateModel() if you wish. I mean, you might as well use the // argument since you're taking it. } The formCollection variable is filled via model binding with the same content that Request.Form would be by default. You don't have to use this collection for UpdateModel() or TryUpdateModel() but I did just so I didn't feel like that collection was pointless since it really was just to make the method signature different from its GET counterpart. Thanks for the help guys!

  • MVC 3 Remote Validation jQuery error on submit

    - by Richard Reddy
    I seem to have a weird issue with remote validation on my project. I am doing a simple validation check on an email field to ensure that it is unique. I've noticed that unless I put the cursor into the textbox and then remove it to trigger the validation at least once before submitting my form I will get a javascript error. e[h] is not a function jquery.min.js line 3 If I try to resubmit the form after the above error is returned everything works as expected. It's almost like the form tried to submit before waiting for the validation to return or something. Am I required to silently fire off a remote validation request on submit before submitting my form? Below is a snapshot of the code I'm using: (I've also tried GET instead of POST but I get the same result). As mentioned above, the code works fine but the form returns a jquery error unless the validation is triggered at least once. • Model value not being set on return from View to Controller

    - by sagesky36
    I have a boolean model variable who's value is supposed to be set to TRUE in order to perform a process on return back into the Controller. It works absolutely fine on my local machine, but not on the remote web server. Can somebody PLEASE inform me what I am missing? The last alert shows that the value of the bool variable is "true". However, when I do page source views of the hidden variable, below is the result. The values of the hidden variable when the page loads and when the last alert button finishes are as follows: My local machine: The remote machine: As you can see, the value on my machine is set to true when the process executes. However, on the remote machine, it is set to false where it then doesn't excute. Why isn't the value in the model being returned as TRUE on the remote machine?
