  Please advise me on how to approach this problem: I have a sequential list of metadata in a document in MS Word. The basic idea is to create a Python algorithm to iterate over the information, retrieving just the name of the PROCESS, when is made a queue, from a database. • Unable to SSH to EC2

  I downloaded the cert-xxx.pem and pk-xxx.pem files and also the keypair.pem and moved it all to the /.ssh folder on my Ubuntu client machine. this is what I get when I try to SSH with -v at the end debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Trying private key: /root/.ssh/identity debug1: Trying private key: /root/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Trying private key: /root/.ssh/id_dsa debug1: No more authentication methods to try. Permission denied (publickey). I am new to administering servers and I want to know if I should be trying to convert the pem files to id_rsa and id_dsa. I am not really sure if that is possible but I don't know how else to get the id_rsa, id_dsa from those pem files or if there is any work around. I managed to get access to EC2 the first time and this is my second try and I am unsuccessful so far. Any help is appreciated. regards Walker

I'm trying to change CSS values inside the textarea replacement (the iFrame where the text gets written) - but I just can't seem to figure out how. For your reading pleasure we have captured a number of the questions and answers and they are summarized below: Question: Can you tell me what should our Portal strategy be for integrating and extending our Oracle enterprise applications? Answer: We recommend that you look at this in two steps, the first would be to ensure that you have a good understanding of our common user experience architecture. Internally our product teams at Oracle are already investing in this quite heavily today for Fusion Applications and this is driving natural convergence from a UX strategy standpoint. The second step would be to look at how best to componentize the back office applications so that the business users across your organization can take advantage of these -- don't make it just about putting a new skin on top of what you already have from an application standpoint, instead look at how best to embed the social computing capabilities as part of the solution for your business users. Question: We are currently using the BEA WebLogic Portal now, should we stay on WLP or should we be looking at moving to WebCenter or when should we move to WebCenter? Answer: Our strategy has been called "Continue & Converge", this theme means that you can continue to use WebLogic or Plumtree portals until your organization is ready to move to WebCenter and in the mean time you can continue to deploy what you need to in your organization of WLP or WCI Portals with the full support of Oracle. In addition WebCenter Services can be leveraged for social computing to complement what you are already doing today and enable your organization to take advantage of some of the latest and greatest social computing capabilities. From a product strategy standpoint, our product teams are taking advantage of the common user experience architecture and leveraging WebCenter to provide social and collaborative capabilities to the Oracle Applications and providing new types of composite applications with what is coming with Fusion Applications. WebCenter also provides a common user experience across all the products in the Oracle Fusion Middleware family as well. Question: Our organization is currently using SharePoint, but we are also an Oracle Applications customer, how should we be thinking about WebCenter as we move forward? Answer: Great question. Typically, we are seeing organizations using SharePoint for its core use cases of small team collaboration and file server replacement. WebCenter can connect to SharePoint as a content source to feed into WebCenter quite easily and it leverages the robust Oracle ECM product under WebCenter as well. In addition, SharePoint team sites can be connected to WebCenter utilizing our SharePoint connector. With Oracle WebCenter though, we are really targeting business users and enterprise applications, thus affecting positive change on the processes that drive the business to improve productivity across your organization.   Last month, Oracle's own internal consulting group (OCS North America) went live on PeopleSoft Services Procurement and PeopleSoft Resource Management to manage all aspects of identifying, recruiting, and deploying billable subcontractors on North America Applications customer consulting projects. • Innovation and the Role of Social Media

  A very interesting post by Andy Mulholland of CAP Gemini this week – “The CIO is trapped between the CEO wanting innovation and the CFO needing compliance” – had many interesting points: “A successful move in one area won’t be recognized and rapidly implemented in other areas to multiply the benefits, or worse unsuccessful ideas will get repeated adding to the cost and time wasted. That’s where the need to really address the combination of social networking, collaboration, knowledge management and business information is required.” Without communicating what works and what doesn’t, the innovations of our organization may be lost, and the failures repeated. That makes sense. If you liked Andy Mulholland’s blog post, you need to hear Howard Beader’s presentation at Enterprise 2.0 Conference on innovation and the role of social media. • 12.04 Epson Scanner will not install dependency not met

  I'm trying to install Epson V100 scanner in 12.04. I downloaded files from Epson: iscan_2.29.1-5~usb0.1.ltdl7_amd64.deb iscan_2.29.1-5~usb0.1.ltdl3_amd64.deb iscan-plugin-gt-s600_2.1.2-1_amd64.deb from Ubuntu Software Center via double click on the file or from the terminal "dependencies not met" error occurs. What can I do. Apparently 12.04 is not able to process these files. Does anyone know where I can download older versions of the above files. I can not access avasys.jp from my location in China.

  I have a web site which is mainly contains a few pages, and now we revamp-ed a new site which contains several hundred pages. We have Strange Google Analytics result, as follow: Before: Traffic sources (all traffic): 674 Content (all pages, unique PV): 674 After: Traffic sources (all traffic): 291 Content (all pages, unique PV): 1235 As you can see, the unique PV has increased as expected (as we have more pages now and the site is better), but why the traffic sources is lower and has a large gap? Any idea?

  I have a broken package system error when using Update Manager. The error given in the details section is: libc6-dev: Depends: libc6 (= 2.15-0ubuntu10.2) but 2.15-0ubuntu10.3 is installed Depends: libc-dev-bin (= 2.15-0ubuntu10.2) but 2.15-0ubuntu10.3 is installed I have tried fixes related to other package system errors listed such as sudo apt-get update followed by sudo apt-get -f install, but get the same error.

• Regulating how much to draw based on how much was drawn last frame.

  I have a 3D game world on an iPhone (limited graphics speed), and I'm already regulating whether I draw each shape on the screen based on it's size and distance from the camera. Something like... if (how_big_it_looks_from_the_camera > constant) then draw What I want to do now is also take into account how many shapes are being drawn, so that in busier areas of the game world I can draw less than I otherwise would. I tried to do this by dividing how_big_it_looks by the number of shapes that were drawn last frame (well, the square root of this but I'm simplifying - the problem is the same). if (how_big_it_looks / shapes_drawn > constant2) then draw But the check happens at the level of objects which represent many drawn shapes, and if an object containing many shapes is switched on, it increases shapes_drawn lots and switches itself back off the next frame. It flickers on and off. I tried keeping a kind of weighted average of previous values, by each frame doing something like shapes_drawn_recently = 0.9 * shapes_drawn_recently + 0.1 * shapes_just_drawn, but of course it only slows the flickering down because of the nature of the feedback loop. Is there a good way of solving this? My project is in Objective-C, but a general algorithm or pseudo-code is good too. Thanks.

• Having tried differen ways but none worked - How do I disable a service from auto-start at boot in Ubuntu?

  This really doesn't make sense. I've been using many other distros and never had such difficulty managing autostart services. I found three ways of disabling autostart services, and none of them works for me: update-rc.d -f service_name remove chkconfig --level 12345 service_name off sysv-rc-conf I tried all the three ways to disable mysql daemon, mongo daemon, redis server, cups daemon, yet all of the utilities confirmed that the daemons are disabled, yet they still automatically start on boot. Please suggest the most correct way to disable services from auto-start at boot. Thank you! btw, it's running 12.04

  I was finally able to connect to avasys.jp and downloaded and installed iscan_2.28.1-3.ltdl7_amd64.deb iscan-data_1.13.0-1_all.deb. The programs appeared to install correctly. I then ran sane-find-scanner and got back: found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8, product=0x012d) at libusb:001:003 I then ran lsusb and got back: Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04b8:012d Seiko Epson Corp. Perfection V10/V100 (GT-S600/F650) Bus 001 Device 004: ID 03f0:4817 Hewlett-Packard Bus 002 Device 002: ID 093a:2510 Pixart Imaging, Inc. Optical Mouse the avasys image scan manual instructed me to run chmod 0666 /proc/bus/usb/001/003 which returned chmod: cannot access `/proc/bus/usb/001/003': No such file or directory In 12.04, no such directory exists. 12.04 appears to deal with USB in another way. What must I do to get the usb port 001/003 recognized by xsane and sane as the port where the scanner can be located? What must I do to continue installing the scanner?

• 12.04 - why does the network icon dissapear every time my machine is turned off

  After spending an hour or two working out how to find the network Icon, I find that when I reboot the machine, I have to go through the whole procedure again. 1. The network menu is not there - so first I have to find the terminal. This has no particular location that I can find but usually I have to type terminal in the dash. 2. Then I have to type nm-applet in terminal 3. The network manager icon then appears, but only works if the terminal window remains open. Shut down the terminal window and the network disappears. This is a pain - plus I have to type my password in every time, which is another waste of time, thought this has always been a problem. So can anyone tell me how to make the web automatically connect at startup without any intervention from me.

• G5 quad core will not boot from Ubuntu CD

  I have a PPC G5 Quad Core with Leopard on one hard drive and I want to install Ubuntu on a second hard drive. The second drive is installed and formatted as a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) drive. I have had no success booting from a CD or DVD with various PPC versions of Ubuntu using any of the suggested keys such as "C, Option, or anything else. Booting into open firmware doesn't work as the system can't find the \install\yaboot file. I am using various CD's burned as iso disk images, but none will boot. I have reset the PRAM, etc, to no avail. Beginning to get very frustrated. Can someone shed some light and provide me with a command line in open firmware that will work, or else direct me to a confirmed PPC bootable version of Ubuntu please? I'd appreciate any help you can provide....

• Setting the default jsp view with spring mvc

  I want to set one of jsp files in my jsps folder as the default view for the application. Is there any way we can tell in that abc.jsp needs to be default and it can be found in such and such path. Also the url pattern is html so is there a way it can be mapped in Spring MVC. For example - When a user types www.example.com , I want the application to direct to abc.jsp page and also when someone types www.example.com/something, even then application should direct to abc.jsp, but the url pattern shouldnt be compromised. • ASP.Net 2.0 Web application cannot find specified module.

  Recently my ASP.NET application quit working. It is local to my machine. It quit working after installing and uninstalling some third party developer tools. (I believe) I emptied out my directory and started adding modules until I narrowed it down to a managed C++ dll. When I load the dll into Dependency Walker it says that "c:\windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft.vc80.debugcrt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_x-ww_5490cd9f\MSVCM80D.DLL" loads fine, but "MSVCR80D.DLL" could not be found. However this dll exists in the same directory. The managed dll contains an embedded manifest and I am using Visual Studio 2005 service pack 1.

The work that the progress bar was to represent was very significant computationally. Therefore, I wanted the work to be done in a separate process (thus giving the operating system the possibility to run it on a different core). I wanted to be able to start the work, and then continue to use the GUI for other tasks while waiting for the results. I have seen many people asking this question indirectly, but I have not seen any concrete expert advice. I hope that by asking this question we will see a community's combined expertise. I have read the FAQ and I hope that "Programmers" is the right place to ask.

• Catching people up

  It’s been a while since I’ve blogged.  I suppose sometimes when one’s personal life gets busy, there are some things that fall by the wayside.  So what all has happened since I last blogged? Business has been good with lots of lessons learned.  I had hoped I would have had an important announcement several months ago concerning the business I own, but that simply hasn’t materialized yet. Will keep everyone posted.  Ensuring your business has a good sales pipeline and stays ahead in the technology curve is extremely important. I eventually resigned my INETA Board of Directors position.  Never one to mince words, frankly I had several issues with how things are run at INETA.  Mostly centered around some ethical issues compounded by higher expectations and what I felt was a lack of support.  I had put my hat into the ring in order to help change things, but eventually I didn’t really see change a possibility, and so all things must come to an end. I have started writing up a new business plan for a new startup, details to be forthcoming.  It’s new name will be Linker CRM.  I have some aggressive game changing plans ahead for it.  Ping me if you’re interested in finding out more information and don’t mind signing a non-compete and confidentiality agreement. ;) My personal life, has been hectic.  A 4 year old will do that to you.  As well as being divorced and the headaches associated with that.  If you’ve been divorced, I feel your pain, if you haven’t been, I would never wish the emotional roller coaster ride on anyone.  Dating has been interesting.  It’s a lot different at age 35 than your early 20s and relationships are far more complicated. Ethan is an absolutely fantastic adorable charmer of a kid.  He’s definitely going to be a heartbreaker.  His personality is really shining through and he’s taken onto my appreciation of music (and yes I’ll admit dance too).  We watched America’s Best Dance Crew (ABDC) together for the first time, he really loved it and I think he’ll probably start his own break dancing crew eventually.  I’ve posted a few videos on Facebook for those interested.  I’m extremely proud of him, but please say a little prayer for us as we try and continue to curb some behavior issues, as well as his mother and I try to settle some differences. This year’s travel plans have already included Dallas, Seattle, and a trip to Vancouver for the 2010 Olympics (a huge thanks to the Washington State Police for the nice souvenir they gave me).  Future travel plans include a trip to Korea in the 2nd half of May, Nashville again in the summer, and hopefully New Orleans for the Microsoft TechEd 2010 Conference.
