  • Making Vim auto-indent PHP/HTML using alternative syntax

    I edit PHP in Vim and have enjoyed the auto-indenting, but PHP's alternative syntax doesn't auto-indent how I would like. For instance, in an HTML template, Vim doesn't recognize the open control structure in the same way it does when using braces. Example: <html> <body> <p> <?php if (1==1): ?> This line should be indented. <?php endif; ?> </p> </body> </html> I want Vim to recognize the open control structure and indent the HTML within it. Another example which uses pure PHP: <?php if (1==1): echo "This line gets indented"; echo "This one doesn't"; endif; ?> The indentation is terminated by the semicolon, even though the control structure is still open. Does anybody know how to get Vim to work in these situations? Thanks.

  • CSS UL removing indent in IE

    See: Page I am having problems with IE, In FF and Chrome the navigation at the top displays fine. However in IE8 (with or without compatibility) the UL seems to indent from the left hand side, not each li just the whole li; despite declaring text-align:center; width:600px; margin:auto; padding-left:0;.     I've been trying to construct a ruby regex which matches trailing spaces - but not indentation placeholders - so I can gsub them out. I had this /\b[\t ]+$/ and it was working a treat until I realised it only works when the line ends are [a-zA-Z]. :-( So I evolved it into this /(?!^[\t ]+)[\t ]+$/ and it seems like it's getting better, but it still doesn't work properly. I've spent hours trying to get this to work to no avail. Please help. Here's some text test so it's easy to throw into Rubular, but the indent lines are getting stripped so it'll need a few spaces and/or tabs. Once lines 3 & 4 have spaces back in, it shouldn't match on lines 3-5, 7, 9. some test test some test test some other test (text) some other test (text) likely here{ dfdf } likely here{ dfdf } and this ; and this ; Alternatively, is there an simpler / more elegant way to do this?

    I am experiencing a problem with the following code in some versions of Internet Explorer: #iconautente{ background-image:url('/style/images/spritecommon.png'); /*icona_utente.png*/ background-position:-117px -15px; text-indent:-9000px; width:20px; height:23px; display:inline-block; } <a id="iconautente" href="/admin/index.php">admin</a> In Firefox, IE7 and IE8 under Vista, I see background and no text, as expected. In IE6 and IE8 under XP, the whole image is indented, not text, so the image is not shown. What should be the right behavior? Is there a workaround?

    I am using the negative-text-indent technique I learned to show a text-image to the user, while hiding the corresponding actual text. This way the user sees the fancy styled text while search engines can still index it. However I am started to think this sounds like cloaking since I am serving different content to the user vs the spider. However, I am not using this in a deceitful way. Plus it seems like this is a popular technique. So is it SEO-safe or is it cloaking? Thanks!

    In the standard LaTeX article class (and probably others as well), paragraph indentation follows standard American publishing norms of not indenting the first paragraph after a section{} or subsection{}. I've redefined \maketitle in a LaTeX document and put the actual title left-aligned as the last line, fairly close to the actual text (kind of like this) Author Date Title Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum. Section title Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat.     Hi, i'm quite new to HTML, and am trying to create a professional looking TreeView. I can not use the in built TreeView in ASP.NET as i need to point the target of the selection to another frame (I have tried, and this doesn't seem possible). My TreeView is built up as follows: Folder1 ChildOne ChildTwo ChildThree Folder2 ChildOne ChildTwo ChildThree I have the collapsing of the folders working, but would like to know how to format this TreeView so it has dotted lines down to the child nodes (as most TreeViews tend to have). How would i go about this? Cheers.

    I've been somewhat spoiled using Eclipse and java. I started using vim to do C coding in a linux environment, is there a way to have vim automatically do the proper spacing for blocks? So after typing a { the next line will have 2 spaces indented in, and a return on that line will keep it at the same indentation, and a } will shift back 2 spaces?

    I'm using the following command to auto replace some code (adding a new code segment after an existing segment) %s/my_pattern/\0, \r some_other_text_i_want_to_insert/ The problem is that with the \r, some_other_text_i_want_to_insert gets inserted right after the new line: mycode( some_random_text my_pattern ) would become mycode( some_random_text my_pattern some_other_text_i_want_to_insert <--- this line is NOT indented ) instead of mycode( some_random_text my_pattern some_other_text_i_want_to_insert <--- this line is now indented ) i.e. the new inserted line is not indented. Is there any option in vim or trick that I can make the newly inserted line indented? Thanks.

  • Django's manage.py shell won't indent

    I seem to have run into a strange bug or more likely some setting I am unfamiliar with on my system that is not allowing me to tab when I am in Django's shell (python manage.py shell is how I run it). For obvious reasons this is proving to be annoying since I can't do any loops or conditonals in the shell. If I hit tab it completes all functions that are available to me, like bash does in a terminal. I've tried just using spaces for my indents but I always get an indentation error. Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to get tab to work in my shell again? (It may be relevant to know that this is on a Ubuntu 9.04 system). Edit: tab works fine in the regular pythong shell, it's only in django's that it doesn't. Thanks.

    So apparently hiding content using "display: none" is bad for SEO and seen by googlebot as being deceptive. This according to a lot of the posts I read online and questions even on this site. But what if I hide keyword rich text using javascript? A jquery example: $(function() { $('#keywordRichTextContainer').hide(); }); or using visibility hidden: $(function() { $('#keywordRichTextContainer').css({ visibility: 'hidden', position: 'absolute' }); }); Would any of these techniques cause my site to be penalized? If googlebot can't read javascript then if I'm hiding through js it shouldn't know right? What about using "text-indent: -9999px"?

    Wanted A command line HTML5 beautifier running under Linux. Input Garbled, ugly HTML5 code. Possibly the result of multiple templates. You don't love it, it doesn't love you. Output Pure beauty. The code is nicely indented, has enough line breaks, cares for it's whitespace. Rather than viewing it in a webbrowser, you would like to display the code on your website directly. Suspects tidy does too much (heck, it alters my doctype!), and it doesn't work well with HTML5. Maybe there is a way to make it cooperate and not alter anything? vim does too little. It only indents. I want the program to add and remove line breaks, and to play with the whitespace inside of tags. DEAD OR ALIVE!
