  • A simple Volume Replication Tool for large data set?

    - by Jin
    I'm looking for a solution to the following: Server A (Site A) - Win 2008 R2 - approx 10TB (15TB max) of data - well over 8 million files Server B (Site B) - Win 2008 R2 I want to assynchronously replicate Server A's volume to a volume on Server B for data redundancy. Something that I can say to my users, "go here for data" when/if Server A goes belly up due to machine problems, disaster, etc. Windows 2008 R2 does have DFS, but microsoft does not apparently support this large of a dataset (or more accurately, more than 8 million files - according to the docs I could find). I also looked at Veritas Volume Replication, but this seems almost too much as I would also require Veritas Volume Manager. There are numerous "back-up" software which makes a 1-1 backup, which would be ok, but since it will be transfering over internet, I'd like something that has compression during transfer like DFS has. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding this?

  • Serialize C# dynamic object to JSON object to be consumed by javascript

    - by Jeff Jin
    Based on the example c# dynamic with XML, I modified DynamicXml.cs and parsed my xml string. the modified part is as follows public override bool TryGetMember(GetMemberBinder binder, out object result) { result = null; if (binder.Name == "Controls") result = new DynamicXml(_elements.Elements()); else if (binder.Name == "Count") result = _elements.Count; else { var attr = _elements[0].Attribute( XName.Get(binder.Name)); if (attr != null) result = attr.Value; else { var items = _elements.Descendants( XName.Get(binder.Name)); if (items == null || items.Count() == 0) return false; result = new DynamicXml(items); } } return true; } The xml string to parse: "< View runat='server' Name='Doc111'>" + "< Caption Name='Document.ConvertToPdf' Value='Allow Conversion to PDF'></ Caption>" + "< Field For='Document.ConvertToPdf' ReadOnly='False' DisplayAs='checkbox' EditAs='checkbox'></ Field>" + "< Field For='Document.Abstract' ReadOnly='False' DisplayAs='label' EditAs='textinput'></ Field>" + "< Field For='Document.FileName' ReadOnly='False' DisplayAs='label' EditAs='textinput'></ Field>" + "< Field For='Document.KeyWords' ReadOnly='False' DisplayAs='label' EditAs='textinput'></ Field>" + "< FormButtons SaveCaption='Save' CancelCaption='Cancel'></ FormButtons>" + "</ View>"; dynamic form = new DynamicXml(markup_fieldsOnly); is there a way to serialize the content of this dynamic object(name value pairs inside dynamic) form as JSON object and sent to client side(browser)?

  • What is private bytes, virtual bytes, working set?

    - by Devil Jin
    I am using perfmon windows utility to debug memory leak in a process. Perfmon explaination: Working Set- Working Set is the current size, in bytes, of the Working Set of this process. The Working Set is the set of memory pages touched recently by the threads in the process. If free memory in the computer is above a threshold, pages are left in the Working Set of a process even if they are not in use. When free memory falls below a threshold, pages are trimmed from Working Sets. If they are needed they will then be soft-faulted back into the Working Set before leaving main memory. Virtual Bytes- Virtual Bytes is the current size, in bytes, of the virtual address space the process is using. Use of virtual address space does not necessarily imply corresponding use of either disk or main memory pages. Virtual space is finite, and the process can limit its ability to load libraries. Private Bytes- Private Bytes is the current size, in bytes, of memory that this process has allocated that cannot be shared with other processes. Q1. Is it the private byte should I measure to be sure if the process is having any leak as it does not involve any shared libraries and any leak if happening will be coming from the process itself? Q2. What is the total memory consumed by the process? Is it the Virtual byte size? or Is it the sum of Virtual Bytes and Working Set Q3. Is there any relation between private bytes, working set and virtual bytes. Q4. Any tool which gives a better idea memory information?

    I am using ant 1.7 to deploy and undeploy applications in tomcat //Snippet from my build.xml <target name="deploy" depends="war" description="Install application to the servlet containor"> <deploy url="${tomcat.manager.url}" username="${manager.user}" password="${manager.passwd}" path="/${tomcat.ctxpath}" war="${war.local}" /> </target> <target name="undeploy" description="Removes Web Application from path"> <undeploy url="${tomcat.manager.url}" username="${manager.user}" password="${manager.passwd}" path="/${tomcat.ctxpath}" /> </target> The deploy task works perfectly fine but the undeploy task gives an html output for the undeploy task prefixed with [undeploy] although the application is undeployed successfully The html message also contains the success message 'OK - Undeployed application at context path /MyApplication' OUTPUT: [undeploy] <html> [undeploy] <head> [undeploy] <style> [undeploy] H1 {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;font-size:22px;} H2 {font-family:Tah oma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;font-size:16px;} H3 {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:whit e;background-color:#525D76;font-size:14px;} BODY {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:black;background-color:white;} B {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;color:white;background-color:#525D76;} P {font-family:Tahoma,Arial,sans-serif;background :white;color:black;font-size:12px;}A {color : black;}A.name {color : black;}HR {color : #525D76;} table { [undeploy] width: 100%;   • Observer pattern and violation of Single Principality Rule

    - by Devil Jin
    I have an applet which repaints itself once the text has changed Design 1: //MyApplet.java public class MyApplet extends Applet implements Listener{ private DynamicText text = null; public void init(){ text = new DynamicText("Welcome"); } public void paint(Graphics g){ g.drawString(text.getText(), 50, 30); } //implement Listener update() method public void update(){ repaint(); } } //DynamicText.java public class DynamicText implements Publisher{ // implements Publisher interface methods //notify listeners whenever text changes } Isn't this a violation of Single Responsibility Principle where my Applet not only acts as Applet but also has to do Listener job. Same way DynamicText class not only generates the dynamic text but updates the registered listeners. Design 2: //MyApplet.java public class MyApplet extends Applet{ private AppletListener appLstnr = null; public void init(){ appLstnr = new AppletListener(this); // applet stuff } } // AppletListener.java public class AppletListener implements Listener{ private Applet applet = null; public AppletListener(Applet applet){ this.applet = applet; } public void update(){ this.applet.repaint(); } } // DynamicText public class DynamicText{ private TextPublisher textPblshr = null; public DynamicText(TextPublisher txtPblshr){ this.textPblshr = txtPblshr; } // call textPblshr.notifyListeners whenever text changes } public class TextPublisher implments Publisher{ // implements publisher interface methods } Q1. Is design 1 a SPR violation? Q2. Is composition a better choice here to remove SPR violation as in design 2.

  • How to declare a(n) vector/array of reducer objects in Cilk++?

    - by Jin
    Hi All, I had a problem when I am using Cilk++, an extension to C++ for parallel computing. I found that I can't declare a vector of reducer objects: typedef cilk::reducer_opadd<int> T_reducer; vector<T_reducer> bitmiss_vec; for (int i = 0; i < 24; ++i) { T_reducer r; bitmiss_vec.push_back(r); } However, when I compile the code with Cilk++, it complains at the push_back() line: cilk++ geneAttack.cilk -O1 -g -lcilkutil -o geneAttack   • How to declare a vector or array of reducer objects in Cilk++?

    - by Jin
    Hi All, I had a problem when I am using Cilk++, an extension to C++ for parallel computing. I found that I can't declare a vector of reducer objects: typedef cilk::reducer_opadd<int> T_reducer; vector<T_reducer> bitmiss_vec; for (int i = 0; i < 24; ++i) { T_reducer r; bitmiss_vec.push_back(r); } However, when I compile the code with Cilk++, it complains at the push_back() line: cilk++ geneAttack.cilk -O1 -g -lcilkutil -o geneAttack   • c# bound Datagridview

    I have a datagridview and it is bound to a stored procedure which returns a number of result columns. There is also a binding navigator with "Add New" button included. If I click "Add New" button, it creates a new row in datagridview automatically, and If I leave that new row by clicking a different row. datagridview invokes "commit" or something. so the question is How do I make datagridview not to commit adding a new row when I leave the cell?

  • Observer pattern and violation of Single Responsibility Principle

    - by Devil Jin
    I have an applet which repaints itself once the text has changed Design 1: //MyApplet.java public class MyApplet extends Applet implements Listener{ private DynamicText text = null; public void init(){ text = new DynamicText("Welcome"); } public void paint(Graphics g){ g.drawString(text.getText(), 50, 30); } //implement Listener update() method public void update(){ repaint(); } } //DynamicText.java public class DynamicText implements Publisher{ // implements Publisher interface methods //notify listeners whenever text changes } Isn't this a violation of Single Responsibility Principle where my Applet not only acts as Applet but also has to do Listener job. Same way DynamicText class not only generates the dynamic text but updates the registered listeners. Design 2: //MyApplet.java public class MyApplet extends Applet{ private AppletListener appLstnr = null; public void init(){ appLstnr = new AppletListener(this); // applet stuff } } // AppletListener.java public class AppletListener implements Listener{ private Applet applet = null; public AppletListener(Applet applet){ this.applet = applet; } public void update(){ this.applet.repaint(); } } // DynamicText public class DynamicText{ private TextPublisher textPblshr = null; public DynamicText(TextPublisher txtPblshr){ this.textPblshr = txtPblshr; } // call textPblshr.notifyListeners whenever text changes } public class TextPublisher implments Publisher{ // implements publisher interface methods } Q1. Is design 1 a SPR violation? Q2. Is composition a better choice here to remove SPR violation as in design 2.

Is it possible to combine the three(one directory and two files) as a continuous file writing and decompose it at another side to save the cost? I am limited to c language and Unix/Linux. I am considering to create a structure with the inode info and get the data at receiver. Thanks!
