• Oracle’s New Memory-Optimized x86 Servers: Getting the Most Out of Oracle Database In-Memory

  With the launch of Oracle Database In-Memory, it is now possible to perform real-time analytics operations on your business data as it exists at that moment – in the DRAM of the server – and immediately return completely current and consistent data. The Oracle Database In-Memory option dramatically accelerates the performance of analytics queries by storing data in a highly optimized columnar in-memory format.  This is a truly exciting advance in database technology.As Larry Ellison mentioned in his recent webcast about Oracle Database In-Memory, queries run 100 times faster simply by throwing a switch.  But in order to get the most from the Oracle Database In-Memory option, the underlying server must also be memory-optimized. • How long would it take to learn Python?

  Hi all I have decided to take the time out after work to learn Python. Python appeals to me because at work (Web and eLearning Company), I have to follow out very repetitive tasks like delete all these tags, rename all these tasks and even more advanced repetive tasks. Additionally it would be good for me to get an understanding of Python first because of its fairly easy to learn syntax. How long would it take to learn the basics and go through these tutorials on Python (+ the Python tutorial)? I will only be spending 1 hour or so on it in the afternoons. http://openbookproject.net/thinkcs/python/english2e/index.html I have told my piano teacher I would like to take a month of learning piano to do this would this be adequate time? • Rotate to a set degree then reverse and repeat in Unity

  and thank you for your time. I'm making my first project in Unity, a simple game where touching objects adds points to the players score. I'd like the objects to have a pleasant back and forth swaying animation on the Z axis. Nodding to the right 30 degrees, then to the left 30 degrees, on and on. Here's what I've got... public class Rotator : MonoBehaviour { void Update () { transform.Rotate(new Vector3(0,0,12)*Time.deltaTime); } } This gives me a nice slow rotation. But I am clueless how to tell Unity to stop at +30 degrees, reverse to -30 degrees, rotate again to +30, stop and repeat, etc, etc. I'd really appreciate any help. Maybe there is a thread like this that I was not able to find? I assume it will involve some kind of 'if than' function? Thank you, Ryan

• The joomla 'create a template' tutorial

  Hello all, Ive recently downloaded joomla using an instant download option, and now im looking to create my own templates, so i went to http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/joomla15/joomla_create_template.htm and Im trying to follow the tuturial but ive failed at the first hurdle... where it says "First, open the "templates" directory in your Joomla installation. Then create a subfolder in it named "tutorial_template". All the files of your template will reside in it." The problem is I have no clue how to do this, where is the directory to start with?? the only thing I know how to get up is the administrators screen, in which I have to choose one of the stock templates, which would be great if I didnt care about my own designs...but obviously im looking to have my own html and css coding used instead. How do I find where the folders are and how do I open them? Im sorry if its a bit of a dumb question but im so confused..so early on. Thanks in advance. Ryan

• Not able to see databases in symlinked folder

  I created a folder on my Dropbox and then symlinked it to both of my computers that I use for development. The folder is working correctly and I can see all the files in it from both computers. The problem arises when I try and access the databases from my MacBook Air. When I open up MAMP Pro and start the web service I can't connect to my development sites, at least from one of my computers. My questions are: Is this even a good idea to symlink the db folder for MAMP? If it is not then is the a smart way to develop locally on two machines? Can I prompt phpMyAdmin to reindex the db folder so it can start accessing the databases? I have tried shutting down both versions of the server software. I have restarted both machines. I am at a loss right now. -Josh

• Be able to create edit and move files to and from /var/www

  I have installed lamp on Ubuntu 12.04. I try to access /var/www but it doesn't allow me to do anything as it says I don't have permissions. I have tried: 1. gksudo nautilus - which works but its very inconvenient way of doing things. 2. sudo adduser ryan www-data sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www sudo chmod g+rw /var/www The above didn't work. I have googled and searched this site for a solution, but all the existing possible solutions have not worked.

• Programming Language? - To create a application (eLearning course) that will work on PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Touch etc?

  Hi Currently at work I'm helping put together and create eLearning courses within Flash. Our senior programmers have knowledge of how to do this, Although - I would like to know how you could go from converting a eLearning course from Flash into a application for Mac and PC, looking similar to Garageband's music lessons? What programming language was used to create Garageband on Mac? What is the best way to create a application that will work on PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Touch etc, Rather then using flash and Actionscript to create online based applications, that will only work in a browser on Mac and PC? • Unable to connect remotely to Vsftpd server set up on CentOS VirtualBox

  I have set up a Vsftp server using the following instructions provided Here and even went as far as following the commentary at the bottom. But I am unable to connect remotely. When I attempt to use FileZilla or my Ubuntu terminal, I always get: ryan@ryan-Galago-UltraPro:~$ ftp 10.0.x.xx ftp: connect: Connection timed out ftp> I have checked and re-checked iptables conf file and made sure that Port 21 is being Accepted and it is. I have looked this up on the web and decided to try nmap to port scan it and this is what I get for a result: ryan@ryan-Galago-UltraPro:~$ nmap -PN 10.0.xx.xx Starting Nmap 6.40 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2014-08-19 15:01 EDT Nmap scan report for 10.0.xx.xx Host is up. All 1000 scanned ports on 10.0.xx.xx are filtered Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 201.38 seconds Is there anything else that I should do or check for? UPDATE: I have tried to ping from the virtual machine to my IP address on Ubuntu and have been successfully able to. I cannot ping to my virtual machine from Ubuntu. I have narrowed this down to possibly being a firewall related issue on Ubuntu's side, but why would I be unable to connect from FileZilla?

• Pygame Tile Based Character movement speed

  Thanks for taking the time to read this. Right now I'm making a really basic tile based game. The map is a large amount of 16x16 tiles, and the character image is 16x16 as well. My character has its own class that is an extension of the sprite class, and the x and y position is saved in terms of the tile position. To note I am fairly new to pygame. My question is, I am planning to have character movement restricted to one tile at a time, and I'm not sure how to make it so that, even if the player hits the directional key dozens of time quickly, (WASD or arrow keys) it will only move from tile to tile at a certain speed. How could I implement this generally with pygame? (Similar to game movement of like Pokemon or NexusTk). Edit: I should probably note that I want it so that the player can only end a movement in a tile. He couldn't stop moving halfway inbetween a tile for example. Thanks for your time! Ryan

• Turning on the wireless card freezes Ubuntu 12.04

  I've been using Ubuntu 12.04 for close to a year. Occasionally after booting into Gnome 3, the desktop is unresponsive to cursor clicks. The mouse cursor moves but can't open menus. Also the network icon displays a red error badge instead of the usual gray x indicating that it is off. The only way I have found to solve this is to switch to a terminal shell (Ctrl-Alt-F5), login and kill gnome-session. This is an intermittent and occasional problem. Recently I moved house and set up this computer in my new apartment. Now I have for the first time a new and more difficult problem. Switching on the wireless card (wlan0) to connect to the wifi router causes the desktop to freeze. Switching to a terminal via Ctrl-Alt-F5 doesn't work. The only solution is a hard reboot from the power switch. How can I diagnose the second, more recent problem? Is there a solution? Cheers, Ryan

• Laptop Hard Drive Cable

  I am about to have to dig into my wifes laptop to pull the hard drive out to pull the data off since the rest of it is close to dieing. I am curious what I should expect to have to deal with to get data off the hard drive. I am assuming its a SATA drive. • Exim - send certain "local" user mail to smtp

  I'm using Exim 3 and would like to know how to send some local addresses to the smtp server instead of Exim handling them as a localuser. They are local addresses in the sense that they have the same domain as listed in 'local_domains' in exim.conf. • How do I get SELinux to allow Apache and Samba on the same folder?

  In the configuration I have setup I wish to allow samba and apache to access /var/www I am able to set a context to allow samba access, but then httpd doesn't have access. Using setenforce to 0 eliminates issues so I know that it is SELinux. In addition: How can I view the context of a folder, and can a folder have multiple contexts? (CentOS) Thank you, Josh

• convert multiple segments of DVD to FLV

  I have a DVD of footage that I need to convert to FLV. I would rather not convert the whole disk as I only need specific segments. Is there a program that I can input start and end times and to get multiple files of these segments? Can you also advise on the best settings to use for best quality at the smallest file sizes. • Capture traffic from SPAN and send it to a HyperV VM

  On a Server 2008 SP2 HyperV VM, I am trying to capture traffic from a SPAN. I know the SPAN is working, as I am able to capture the traffic on the Host OS, but when I try and capture traffic on the VM, with the SPAN being sent to a virtual adapter, I cannot seem to get it to work-- After doing some Googling, I have found that it might be because HyperV NICs cannot be put into promiscuous mode. (?) Any other thoughts? -Josh

• Displaying XML in Chrome Browser

  I love the Chrome browser but I use XML quite a lot in my development work and when I view it in Chrome I just get the rendered text. I know that the source view is slightly better but I'd really like to see the layout and functionality that IE adds to XML namely: Highlighting Open/close nodes Any ideas how I can get this on Chrome? • GridView doesn't remember state between postbacks

  Hi, I have a simple ASP page with databound grid (bound to an object source). The grid is within the page of a wizard and has a 'select' checkbox for each row. In one stage of the wizard, I bind the GridView: protected void Wizard1_NextButtonClick(object sender, WizardNavigationEventArgs e) { ... // Bind and display matches GridViewMatches.EnableViewState = true; GridViewMatches.DataSource = getEmailRecipients(); GridViewMatches.DataBind(); And when the finish button is clicked, I iterate through the rows and check what's selected: protected void Wizard1_FinishButtonClick(object sender, WizardNavigationEventArgs e) { // Set the selected values, depending on the checkboxes on the grid. foreach (GridViewRow gr in GridViewMatches.Rows) { Int32 personID = Convert.ToInt32(gr.Cells[0].Text); CheckBox selected = (CheckBox) gr.Cells[1].FindControl("CheckBoxSelectedToSend"); But at this stage GridViewMatches.Rows.Count = 0! I don't re-bind the grid, I shouldn't need to, right? I expect the view-state to maintain the state. (Also, if I do rebind the grid, my selection checkboxes will be cleared) NB: This page also dynamically adds user controls in OnInit method. I have heard that it might mess with the view state, but as far as I can tell, I am doing it correctly and the viewstate for those added controls seems to work (values are persisted between postbacks) Thanks a lot in advance for any help! I wondered if the asp engine was databinding the grid during the page lifecycle to a datasource that was not yet defined. (In a test page, the GridView is 'automatically' databound'. Also, I have this in the asp header: ViewStateEncryptionMode="Never" - this was to resolve an occasional 'Invalid Viewstate Validation MAC' message Thanks again Ryan

• Setting static IP on CentOS without system-config-network

  Background information: I have a problem installing system-config-network. It appears it cannot find an update to sqlite (checks every mirror and comes back empty handed.) I have tried the skipping broken option and package cleanups from yum-utils. Since I cannot get it installed, I decided to set an ip manually from console. A quick Google search comes back empty handed as for an easy how-to guide that works. What do I need to do for a currently configured DHCP ip to change it to a Static IP from console. Thanks, Josh

• Is there a good XP like windows explorer for windows Vista?

  I'm still refusing to go to Windows Vista and now Windows 7 mainly due to the windows explorer, I find it cumbersome and hard to use exclusively with a keyboard. I use XP file explorer in the most basic view, the address bar at the top and files always in list view underneath. The reason I do this is because I'm almost blind and do everything from the keyboard and don't touch the mouse whilst navigating through files, this is because I can type "L[ENTER]D[Enter]B[Enter]" and know that I'm in "c:\documents and settings\Brett Ryan", and I can hit [Tab] once to go to the address bar to type in a folder. Can anyone suggest a replacement for windows explorer that brings back this basic navigational behavior?

• User Profile cannot be loaded - Windows 7

  After uninstalling an HP Vector Mouse driver, then rebooting, when Windows tries to auto log me in, i get an error message saying tyhe following: The User Profile Service failed the Login. User Profile cannot be loaded. Due to the fact that it is the only account on this PC, I cannot even go into another account. I rebooted the machine several times, before going into Safe Mode with Networking. For some reason, I cannot create a new account whilst in safe mode (I think it is to do with UAC, nothing with UAC is clickable). Thus, I am stuck. I cannot get into my account, nor can I create a new one to copy files over to. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! Ryan EDIT: System Restore was, for some reason turned off. Thus, I cannot restore to a working point.

• php-cgi cpu usage is super high

  I am getting constantly high and wildly fluctuating CPU usage % for php-cgi commands as seen via "top" on my Centos server.. I have a server density account and it seems that this is a common trend: User - PID - CPU % - MEM % - VSZ - RSS - TT - Stat - Started - Time - Command 500 - 6389 - 22.4 - 3 - 271136 - 32380 - ? - S - 20:26 - 0:40 - /usr/bin/php-cgi Seems there are about 6 or so of those records in my processes list at any given check-in. Any ideas what's causing this? I have fast_cgi installed and the module is loading.. Not sure why it isn't handling this though. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Ryan

• iPhone 3G S sync services problem

  When I try and synchronise my iPhone with iTunes, I get a dialog informing me that "syncing has been disabled on this computer". (I've never disabled syncing myself, and it worked perfectly fine a day ago) Music synchronises fine, as do videos, however, my contacts do not. Google Contacts no longer appears in the list to choose from, and the select box is empty. When I choose to re-enable syncing, iTunes informs me that "iTunes was unable to load provider data from Sync Services". I've followed several steps I've found on the internet, including deleting the C:\Users\Ryan\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Sync Services directory, but to no avail. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Is there a Service (in the Windows-form-of-daemon sense) that I accidentally disabled?

• Outlook DASL Filter - Custom Search

  I'm trying to write a DASL filter to combine three queries: Get all mail with no category and no flag. ("urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office#Keywords" IS NULL AND "urn:schemas:httpmail:messageflag" IS NULL) Get all mail that is categorized as "Ryan" and flagged with a red "Today" flag. Don't know how to write this one. Get all mail that is uncategorized and flagged with a red "Today" flag. Don't know how to write this one. Once I have the individual queries, I will combine and OR them. I am stuck on how to filter the flag value.

• Best Practice: iDRAC & NIC Selection

  I am setting up a new Dell server with iDRAC 6 Express. My options for the NIC are: 1) Shared 2) Shared with failover to LOM2 3) Shared with failover to all LOMs The server has 2x dual-nic PCI-E cards (total of 4 nics) My questions are thusly: -What is best practice for setting this up? Is there any reason why I would not want option 3? -If the NIC is being used for both iDRAC and the OS, (there is no dedicated iDRAC nic), does this ever cause any kinds of issues for either iDRAC or the OS?
