• nikto probe warning messages

  Hi-- I have a pretty standard VPS running Ubuntu 8.1, Apache 2.2, PHP 5 etc. -- standard Lamp stack. I am using suhosin and have tried my best to plug the obvious stuff, since I'm the only user-- there's no SSH access except via pubkey on a non-standard port, there's no root access by SSH, no FTP server running, iptables is set to discard anything outside of basically port 80 or my SSH port (there's no mail server or anything else). However, I've still been compromised (not badly as far as I can tell) probably by a SQL injection. I've locked down the SQL user (there's only one outside of root, and he's got limited priv, no file etc.) So I ran nikto to see what I'm doing wrong, and there's a list of things I've never seen, and can't find using "find" or any other method I'm aware of. Any help with these messages and/or what I'm doing wrong is very much appreciated.

  I have two routers at my house. Both of them have DCHP server enabled. One of them is 192.168.1.1 and gives adresses from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.32 The other one is 192.168.1.50 and gives adresses from 192.168.1.51 to 192.168.1.99 The problem is that I only have internet access in one because my ip is 192.168.1.7, and when I switch to the other one, the ip remains 192.168.1.7, even though I have automatically get a ip adress in Ipv4. When I manually change my ip to one in the range allowed by the router, I can browse the internet. Any ideas how to solve this? Thank you.

• Malicious program changing my DNSs

  Some weeks ago I started having problems with my internet connection, it was extremely slow and suddently some websites (specifically gmail, facebook, youtube and twitter) started failing to connect, while the rest connect normally. Some days after, those same websites started showing me a message in portuguese: "Nova atualização disponível" whenever I tried to connect and a .exe file started downloading ("internet_update.exe" or something like that). That's when I freaked out! It was definitely a virus or something like that, but it was really weird because I never had a problem like that (I run Linux). So I turned on my old PC (running Windows XP) and it turned out it had the same problem! the same message was showed whenever I tried to connect one of those specific websites, while the rest loaded without problems. Even in my Android smarthphone the same message was showed. So it was obvious that the problem was not in a particular machine but in the router itself. So I started googling and I found some information, unfortunately I only found some in spanish, so I will make you a short summary: It is a new banking trojan developed specifically to infect and collect information from Brasilian banks. Apparently now it has expanded to Argentina and Peru. So how does it work? It spreads through social networks (videos, links, ...) and then it "takes control" of your internet connection by changing the values of your DNSs. More specifically, it changes the Primary DNS to one of this IPs: 108.170.13.38, 66.7.216.122 or 63.143.43.154 and the Secondary DNS to 8.8.8.8, this secondary DNS is actually the Google Public DNS, and it is configured this way so that your internet connection continue working properly and the user does not notice anything. The important part here is that because no download or install has been made in your machine, no antivirus will notice any change. After your DNSs have been changed, the trojan controls every single website you connect to and this way they steal your bank information. So after reading about this I accesed to my router and I restored my Primary and Secondary DNSs to their proper values, but one day after I had the same problem again. This is actually a 50% warning post - 50% help me! post. So, here comes the question: Is there any possible way to prevent my DNSs of being changed?

  I'm trying to install Red5 on a vps running CentOS 5.7 in MediaTemple using this how-to (dv):Install Red5 Media Server but on step 7 I get this error: BUILD FAILED /usr/local/red5/build.xml:217: The following error occurred while executing this line: /usr/local/red5/build.xml:238: Error running /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0.x86_64/bin/javac compiler Any idea how to fix it? Already Google and several users have had this same issue but none posted the solution or they never solved. • Not able to run firefox in a head-less Ubuntu server 9.10

  I need to run Firefox in my server in order to execute some Selenium tests from Hudson. I would love no to have to install a complete gui. So I installed Xvfb in order to fake the Gui (I understand it this way correct me if my assumptions are wrong).   I am trying to figure out why a simple .XLS EXCEL workbook is taking, randomly, 30 seconds to open. Before answering: Please, bear mind the following: Problem symptoms Hanging is intermitent and it takes exactly 30 seconds; During hanging there is no cpu or disk activity; It only happens during document load. Every runs smooth after that; Windows Explorer.exe hangs on folder, but all other folders, system and applications are still responsive; There are no consecutive hangings. I have to wait for while to reproduce this behaviour; All samples documents are located on a local drive (C:\BPI); The no document has has macros and have any addins usage; The problem does occurs on others files extensions like .PDF, for example; Office 2003 is being used for several years; The computer is running Windows XP; Computer has several network mapped drives, all addressed to main file server; Recently, main fileserver was replaced by Windows 2011 SBS Standard Edition What I have done so far I have traced machine Explorer.exe, using Process Monitor, added Duration column, and filtered by Duration 1. That's is how I found that hanging was taking exactly 30 seconds. For further information, please refer to Oliver Salzburg tutorial. Using Process Monitor, I have also figured out than five operations were taking most of sample collecting duration. Looking at sample image below, column Operation below you will notice that one single operation was taking 29 seconds; I have tried different documents (.xls and .doc), all of them smaller than 30 KB; I have, temporarily, removed all shortcuts on User Document's folder that were pointing to network drives or shares; I have runned CCleaner to fix registry issues; I made sure that there were no external links on tested workbook or word documents; I have reproduced this behaviour for hours; I have extensivelly researched for hours on the web; Process Monitor's collected and filtered data

• Voice command in non-english Windows 7 Home Premium

English voice command would work for me, but I am unable to get it via OS both because I use a pt-BR Windows 7, and becuse I only have the Home Premium version. Upgrading is too expensive for me. Do you recommend a good alternative. It could be either free or paid, as long it's good.

In read benchmark, results are similar: dd of=/dev/null if=DD bs=8M count=10000 iflag=direct 10000+0 records in 10000+0 records out 83886080000 bytes (84 GB) copied, 79,5918 s, 1,1 GB/s If remove iflag=direct obtain 150MB/s... Recently the file transfer activity between desktop (all osx based) is increased a lot so he bought a switch (no connected to the router, too far away) for transfer the file over the cable instead over the wifi. Problem: How to bind the file sharing service just to the Ethernet interface and exclude the wifi interface ? Thanks @mattlant This is a dedicated server that's why I'm installing the SMTP manually. EDIT: I use exchange so its a little different, but its called a smart host in exchange, but in plain SMTP service config i think its called something else. Cant remember exactly the setting name. Thank you for pointing me at the Smart host field. Mail is getting delivered now. In the Default SMTP Virtual Server properties, the Delivery tab, click Advanced and fill the "Smart host" field with the address that your provider gives you.   We have a javascript funtion named "move" which does just "windows.location.href = any given anchor". This function works on IE, Opera and Safari, but somehow is ignored in Firefox. Researching on Google doesn't produce a satisfactory answer why it doesn't work. Does any javascript guru knows about this behavior, and what would be the best practice to jump to an anchor via javascript?

• php cli script hangs with no messages

  Hi-- I've written a PHP script that runs via SSH and nohup, meant to process records from a database and do stuff with them (eg. process some images, update some rows). It works fine with small loads, up to maybe 10k records. I have some larger datasets that process around 40k records (not a lot, I realize, but it adds up to a lot of work when each record requires the download and processing of up to 50 images). The larger datasets can take days to process. Sometimes I'll see in my debug logs memory errors, which are clear enough-- but sometimes the script just appears to "die" or go zombie on me. My tail of the debug log just stops, with no error messages, the tail of the nohup log ends with no error, and the process is still showing in a ps list, looking like this-- 26075 pts/0 S 745:01 /usr/bin/php ./import.php but no work is getting done. Can anyone give me some ideas on why a process would just quit? The obvious things (like a php script timeout and memory issues) are not a factor, as far as I can tell. Thanks for any tips PS-- this is hosted on a godaddy VDS (not my choice). I am sort of suspecting that godaddy has some kind of limits that might kick in on me despite what overrides I put in the code (such as set_time_limit(0);).

• Error When Creating CLF Function

  I've created an C# class that contains 2 static method and I successfully created an Assembly in SQL 2005. When I try to create a table-valued function from that Assembly I get the following error: Msg 6509, Level 16, State 36, Procedure , Line 2 An error occurred while gathering metadata from assembly '' with HRESULT 0x80004005. We have other CLR functions that are that are with in the same dll and seem to work fine. I tried to emulate what the other functions are doing, but I can't seem to get this function to work. All the documentation online doesn't seem to help

• Videoconference using Flash and SIP

  The front-end will be Flash, to run in a browser and have access to the camera. I must use SIP to control the sessions. How could I do this? Will a Red5 server and a MjSip sever do the trick? As in i'd use MjSip to setup the session and warn users about calls, and Red5 to stream the video and audio? Any suggestions? Note: only 1-on-1 conference is required.

• pdf errors with php, apache2

  Hi-- I'm seeing some strange behavior from some dynamically generated PDFs using the TCPDF library in PHP. Standard lamp stack-- however, if you try to open the PDF from Windows with Acrobat Reader, it gives an error that the "file is damaged and could not be repaired". From Mac, Linux, etc. the file works fine, and opens fine. It also opens fine in Google Docs-- so clearly the PDF itself is ok. Is it possible that the mime type (application/pdf) is causing problems in Windows? Thanks

• set label value in vb.net

  Hi-- I'm usually a PHP guy but got stuck doing a project in vb.net. I have a query (sqldatasource) that returns a single value (the last update date). I want to use a label to say something like "Last updated: " < Label = (returned value) In PHP this would be simple. In vb.net, all I can find are endless badly written code behinds showing how you'd execute the query onLoad then bind it to the label. Is this really the only way to do this? It seems like a ridiculously simple problem to have such a long solution. I have used a datagrid control to just bind the query result directly, but it prints the column name as well as the date, so it's not ideal. Any ideas?

• getting mysql_insert_id() while using ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE with PHP

  Hi-- I've found a few answers for this using mySQL alone, but I was hoping someone could show me a way to get the ID of the last inserted or updated row of a mysql DB when using PHP to handle the inserts/updates. Currently I have something like this, where column3 is a unique key, and there's also an id column that's an autoincremented primary key: $query ="INSERT INTO TABLE (column1, column2, column3) VALUES (value1, value2, value3) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE SET column1=value1, column2=value2, column3=value3"; mysql_query($query); $my_id = mysql_insert_id(); $my_id is correct on INSERT, but incorrect when it's updating a row (ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE). I have seen several posts with people advising that you use something like INSERT INTO table (a) VALUES (0) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE id=LAST_INSERT_ID(id) to get a valid ID value when the ON DUPLICATE KEY is invoked-- but will this return that valid ID to the PHP "mysql_insert_id()" function? Thanks for any advice.
