  • Mac Mini's internet very slow, every other device fine (PC, iPhone, Xbox 360)

    I recently haven't used my Mac Mini for about 5 days (however it was left on). I seem to be able to connect and get great download / upload speeds through my PC, Xbox 360, iPhone and parents' laptop. However, my Mac Mini is very slow. OS X's Mail.app is downloading mail at 0.4kbps and then dropping to 0. Skype file transfers are doing the same. Browsing the net is a terrible experience. It is taking 30 seconds or more to download basic pages. All of my devices connect wirelessly to a Netgear router / modem. I have tried giving the Mac Mini a manual IP, and renew DHCP lease, as well as flush DNS in Terminal. I have also rebooted the router / modem twice, and the Mac Mini twice. Do you know what could be causing this? Thanks

  • Mini DisplayPort -> DVI -> VGA ?

    I have a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter which I use to connect my MacBook to a screen that has DVI input. I also have a screen with VGA only input which I want to be able to use, so instead of buying yet another expensive Apple adapter (the Mini DisplayPort to VGA), I just got a cheap DVI to VGA, so I can do Mini DisplayPort - DVI - VGA. It doesn't seem to work though. The screen just says "no connection". Does anyone know if this is actually supposed to work (and my DVI - VGA is just broken), or is this simply not supported and I need to get the expensive Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA? Thanks!

    I'm using a filter in web.xml to check if a user is logged in or not: <filter> <filter-name>LoginFilter</filter-name> <filter-class>com.mycompany.LoginFilter</filter-class> </filter> <filter-mapping> <filter-name>LoginFilter</filter-name> <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern> </filter-mapping> And this works like a charm until I have a stylesheet or image I want to exclude from this filter. I know one approach is to put everything that's protected inside /privateor similar, and then set the url-pattern to: <url-pattern>/private/*</url-pattern>. The downside to this is my URLs now looking like: http://www.mycompany.com/private/mypage instead of http://www.mycompany.com/mypage. Is there another solution to this problem, that let me keep my pretty-urls?

    I am using PHP filter to perfom basic sanitization and validation of form data. The principle problem I am having is that I mark my form up so that all the data is in one array for the POST input. e.g. form fields, page[name], page[slug], page[body], page[status], etc. Using the following: filter_input(INPUT_POST, 'page[name]', FILTER_SANITIZE_STRING); OR filter_input(INPUT_POST, "page['name']", FILTER_SANITIZE_STRING); I am unable to access the variable. Can someone please tell me the correct name to use to access array data using filter_input()

  • mini-dinstall chmod 0600 changes file: Operation not permitted

    I'm getting "Operation not permitted" in the mini-dinstall.log everytime a new debian package has been uploaded on the custom debian repository using dput. The deb file is installed successfuly but the changes file remains in the incoming folder. I can not use a post-install script when the changes file can not be processed. How can I fix this problem?   • Apply LADSPA filter to only one channel of multichannel output with Alsa and PulseAudio

    I want to apply a filter, specifically SWH's glame-bandpass-iir, to only one of several output channels. I want unfiltered output to go to the front, rear and LFE channels with bandpass filtered output for the center channel. I'm assuming that this needs to be done with Alsa's /etc/asound.conf but I cannot understand the documentation well enough to figure out how. If there is a better way, via PulseAudio, Jack or whatever, I'm open to whatever works. Thanks.

I brought a whole new mac mini as I am an iPhone developer - I prefer to use it. But most of my family members are not used to with mac osx. They don't know how to operate os x. Managing files Opening documents Browser & many many other issues. It's not their age to learn more, people like us ( computer geek ) can easily get into new systems. I had many attempted efforts to teach them for all these above topics in windows. Summary, Of all these, I know how to use mac, but they don't know. They stair like I am making private & bad usage of mac. In short, I just want to install windows. So, that they can feel that mac mini is for all members not for just me. Original Question Dual Boot windows & os x on mac mini ? Is it possible ? How ? Does it void warranties of apple ?

  • Where to define a filter function for a form field in my Joomla component's preferences

    I am creating a component in Joomla 2.5. This component has some options that are defined in its config.xml, so they can be set in the preferences of the component. Now I would like to apply a filter to one of these option fields, using the attribute filter="my_filter". In the source code of JForm I saw the following lines at the very end of the implementation of JForm::filterField(): if (strpos($filter, '::') !== false && is_callable(explode('::', $filter))) { $return = call_user_func(explode('::', $filter), $value); } elseif (function_exists($filter)) { $return = call_user_func($filter, $value); } That's what I needed for using a filter function defined by myself! I managed to do this for form fields used in the views of my component. I defined the filter function as MyComponentHelper::my_filter(), where MyComponentHelper is a helper class which I always load in the very base of my component. And in the form's xml I added filter="MyComponentHelper::my_filter" to the fields that have to be filtered. However... when I am trying to apply the filter function to a form field in my component's preferences, I am not in my own component, but in com_config instead, so my helper class is not available! So, therefore, my question: where to define my own filter function in such a way that it can be found and called by JForm::filterField() in com_config?? Help is very much appreciated.

  • Cannot boot from USB on my Mac mini

    Two weeks ago I installed OSX 10.8 on my Mac mini. After that, my system started to hang a lot, so I tried to erase it and install OSX 10.7 again. I used carbon Copy Cloner to make the bootable USB and it can load successfully on another Macbook. However, on my Mac mini, when I press on the option button to select the USB, it loads the white screen with a ban symbol at the center of the screen. After a moment, my machine automatically shuts down. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Edit: this is exactly the problem I have now http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-1207168.html Update 1: the hdd seems ok (from disk utility). I restored the booting partition by disk utility (drag the dmg file to that partition). After restarting and using that partition to boot, prohibited symbol is still there

  • ASP.NET MVC Response Filter + OutputCache Attribute

    I'm not sure if this is an ASP.NET MVC specific thing or ASP.NET in general but here's what's happening. I have an action filter that removes whitespace by the use of a response filter: public class StripWhitespaceAttribute : ActionFilterAttribute { public StripWhitespaceAttribute () { } public override void OnResultExecuted(ResultExecutedContext filterContext) { base.OnResultExecuted(filterContext); filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Filter = new WhitespaceFilter(filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Filter); } } When used in conjunction with the OutputCache attribute, my calls to Response.WriteSubstitution for "donut hole caching" do not work. The first and second time the page loads the callback passed to WriteSubstitution get called, after that they are not called anymore until the output cache expires. I've noticed this with not just this particular filter but any filter used on Response.Filter... am I missing something? I also forgot to mention I've tried this without the use of an MVC action filter attribute by attaching to the PostReleaseRequestState event in the global.asax and setting the Response.Filter value there... but still no luck.

  • Intel 1.83 Mac Mini upgraded to 1.5 gig for Snow Leopard

    Even though I've upgraded countless video cards, RAM, harddrives, motherboards in PCs... this will be my first mac mini RAM upgrade. I've watched the classic "putty knife" video. (Absurd method... but I guess it's what I'm stuck with.) I have a 1.83 Intel-based Mac Mini from 2007-2008, with 1 gig of RAM. (Two 512 sticks) Can I install 1 gig + 512 ? (Or do I have to throw away my existing sticks and buy two 1 gig sticks?) This old machine is rarely used... so I want to spend the absolute minimum on this RAM upgrade. We ONLY use it to run xCode... nothing more. But wanted to increase the RAM so we can install Snow Leopard. I have no idea how many pins the memory has. I printed out over FORTY pages of specs about this machine from "About this Mac"... but didn't find what I needed. Does this sound right: DDR2 SDRAM (but no mention of SO-DIMM) 667MHZ (but don't know if I can use faster also) Pin count: Unknown Computer model number: Unknown (But I "think" it's an MB138/A) PC2 RAM (unknown... not mentioned) 5300 (unknown... not mentioned) Mfg date: (unknown... not mentioned) Number of slots: (unknown... not mentioned) Laptop or desktop RAM: (unknown... not mentioned)

  • Double Filter in Excel

    I'm trying to "stack" filters in excel, so to speak. I want to filter column A to show anything greater than 30 and then I want to filter column B to show the top ten items. When I do this, however, it shows me all rows that fit both criteria (only five records). I want to first fit the criteria for column A and then filter these results to show the top ten items in column B (10 records total). I know that I could just copy the rows from my first filter to a new sheet and then filter the new worksheet, but is there any way to apply both filters so that I don't physically have to delete records this way?     I have a ThinkPad T530 with Mini DP++ and NVS 5400M, which are said to support 2560 * 1600 resolution. The display is Dell 3007WFP, which also supports 2560 * 1600. But, I have never seen any cables or adapters that can connect them with full support to 2560 * 1600. Do you have any idea? THANK YOU! In addition, I found that mDP++ means I can use a passive adapter. No need for active adapter which is much more expensive. This is the only one that meets my needs, but it is not sold in the US. And this one seems to be OK, but I am not sure because it says "2.5 Gbps per channel", which may not be enough.

  • Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Sound Stopped Working

    I have cancelled cable and want to watch the NCAA tournament games on my TV tonight through my 2011 Macbook Pro where I can stream the game in a browser. I have a cheap Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI converter that I have connected to my TV in the past and had no issues with audio or video, the problem is the audio has stopped working since the last time I used it a few months ago and now just keeps playing through the laptop speakers, but the video works fine. Everything with my setup is the same and when I try to force the audio output to the TV in the Audio system settings, my TV is not listed as an output option at all. I have tried various combinations of power cycling, replugging-in both devices and making sure the TV options are set properly to receive audio through HDMI but no luck. Anyone know what the issue could be?

  • Google Mini Search Does Not Return Results

    I pointed the Google Mini to a small intranet site. (8 simple HTML pages) It crawls all 8 pages just fine, but a simple search with a word clearing contained within the body of the pages returns 0 results. If I enter a search like this: "site:mysite.net", it returns all 8 pages. If I enter a search with a word contained in a Url, it will return that Url. In the search results, only the Url is returned in the list items. There is no Page Title or blurb text you normally see in Google search results. It's as if it is only indexing the Url and skipping the page title, body, etc. I have an old software Version 3.4.14, but I wanted to try to get this thing working without an upgrade. It worked before for another domain, so why would it not work now. Any ideas?

    I'm currently considering buying a Mac Mini to use as a media center. I plan to install Windows 7 (or 8) on it, using Boot Camp. Will it be able to go into standby or hibernate (S3, S4?) and wake up to record TV scheduled in Windows Media Center? I haven't been able to find concrete information on supported standby types when running Windows under boot camp, and if Windows will even be able to wake when a recording should start. I just want to be clear on any limitations in this area before I buy anything.

  • Disk failing on dell mini, are there diagnostic tools?

    Hi, my dell mini 10v running Ubuntu 10.10 runs ok for hours, but then will suddenly slow down drastically. Switching to a console shows lots of error messages, which also get into /var/log/syslog. These errors happen every couple of seconds. I'm figuring that the disk is failing, but is there anyway to be sure, and can laptop disks be replaced easily?   • Random software/shutdown problems Mac mini

    Hello I have a Mac mini using OS X 10.5.8. Recently I've been having problems that are becoming increasingly severe. Particular symptoms: Firefox "quits" but the dot on the dock remains. If I try shutting down at this point I can't and have to use the power button. I can't start Firefox either. Significantly higher than normal crash rate for CS4 Illustrator Photoshop and Dreamweaver. If Firefox remains open when sleeping the Mac, on waking up firefox is completely unresponsive and must be restarted. Can cause problem 1. Today I lost all my FTP settings for Dreamweaver CS4 Bluetooth switches on when booting despite being switched off. Network password retention is somewhat erractic. Tried running Apple Hardware Test as described in the manual. Cannot access install disk by pressing D at startup. My pen tablet (Bamboo) lost my preferences. Tried unstalling software and now cannot re-install. I've never had problems of this level outside warranty before so I don't know much about debugging Macs. Solutions attempted: Disable bluetooth (see problem 5) Disable time machine Run appple harware test (see problem 7) Tried using activity monitor but don't know which processes are normal Tried uninstalling more recent software. I don't have any idea what to do. It seems like a hard disk failure but I don't have the know how to continue.

  • Create a Search Filter List in Google Chrome

    Are you tired of unwanted and/or non-relevant results cluttering up the search results at Bing, Yahoo, and Google? With the Search Filter extension for Chrome you can easily remove the unwanted “chaff” from your search results. Note: The extension only works on Bing, Yahoo, and Google at this time. Before For our example we conducted a search for “anime wallpapers” at Yahoo Singapore, Bing Singapore, and Google. In each set of results we decided to focus on results that would display either a yellow or red warning color from WOT. You can see our targeted result for Yahoo Singapore… The one for Bing Singapore… And the targeted result from Google. Search Filter in Action As soon as you install the extension you should take a quick look at the “Options”. At first the “Filters List Area” will be empty but will not remain so for long as you create your own filter list. The second part may or may not be of interest to you…the ability to opt into the filter service. If you opt in your filter list will be connected to your “Google Account” and will be available on any of your Chrome installs with the extension installed (and set to “Opt In”). Keep in mind that if you choose this option the filter list that you create will be aggregated anonymously and have a GUID number attached to it. After installing the extension we refreshed each of our three search pages…notice the small red circle button beside each search result link. Clicking on the red circle button will cause the entire browser window area to “shade out” temporarily while you decide between adding that website to the filter list or cancelling the action. If you add a website to the filter list that result will immediately disappear from the search results list without refreshing the webpage. Looks like we have another website at the bottom that we could add to the filter list… Click, click, click! After adding one website from each of the three search services you can see that our filter list has gotten off to a nice start. If for some reason you accidentally add a website to the list or change your mind about a website simply click on the red circle button to remove that particular listing. Conclusion If you are looking for an easy way to create a search filter list then this is definitely an extension that is worth taking the time to look at.   • Allow email from a particular sender through spam filter

    We are running exchange 2010 and are using the built in anti-spam feature. We have set up Content Filtering, IP Block List Providers, Sender ID, Sender Reputation and it filters out most of the junk but it also quarantines all emails from one of our customers. It is being quarantined because of the Content Filter agent (Report Below). How can I add an exception for this email address to the Content Filter. I can see how to setup an exception for a delivery address ("Don't filter messages sent TO the following recipients") but I want to add [email protected] to our safe list. I don't want to add the whole domain as it is a very popular ISP in Australia and we often get junk from them.
