  • Using multiple column layout with HTML 5 and CSS 3

    - by nikolaosk
This is going to be the fourth post in a series of posts regarding HTML 5. You can find the other posts here , here and here. In this post I will provide a hands-on example with HTML 5 and CSS 3 on how to create a page with multiple columns and proper layout.I will show you how to use CSS 3 to create columns much easier than relying on DIV elements and the float CSS rule.I will also show you how to use browser-specific prefix rules (-ms for Internet Explorer and -moz for Firefox ) for browsers that do not fully support CSS 3.In order to be absolutely clear this is not (and could not be) a detailed tutorial on HTML 5. There are other great resources for that.Navigate to the excellent interactive tutorials of W3School.Another excellent resource is HTML 5 Doctor. Two very nice sites that show you what features and specifications are implemented by various browsers and their versions are http://caniuse.com/ and http://html5test.com/. At this times Chrome seems to support most of HTML 5 specifications.Another excellent way to find out if the browser supports HTML 5 and CSS 3 features is to use the Javascript lightweight library Modernizr. In this hands-on example I will be using Expression Web 4.0.This application is not a free application. You can use any HTML editor you like. You can use Visual Studio 2012 Express edition. You can download it here.I will create a simple page with information about HTML 5, CSS 3 and JQuery. This is the full HTML 5 code. <!DOCTYPE html><html lang="en">  <head>    <title>HTML 5, CSS3 and JQuery</title>    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" >    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css">       </head>  <body>    <div id="header">      <h1>Learn cutting edge technologies</h1>      <p>HTML 5, JQuery, CSS3</p>    </div>    <div id="main">      <div id="mainnews">        <div>          <h2>HTML 5</h2>        </div>        <div>          <p>            HTML5 is the latest version of HTML and XHTML. Even though the specification isn't finalized yet, all major browser manufacturers are making sure their browser is ready for the future. Find out which parts of HTML5 are already supported by your browser today and compare the results with other browsers.                      The HTML5 test does not try to test all of the new features offered by HTML5, nor does it try to test the functionality of each feature it does detect. Despite these shortcomings we hope that by quantifying the level of support users and web developers will get an idea of how hard the browser manufacturers work on improving their browsers and the web as a development platform.</p>        </div>      </div>              <div id="CSS">        <div>          <h2>CSS 3 Intro</h2>        </div>        <div>          <p>          Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used for describing the presentation semantics (the look and formatting) of a document written in a markup language. I have used some HTML 5 tags and the relevant HTML 5 doctype. The CSS code (style.css) follows  body{        line-height: 30px;        width: 1024px;        background-color:#eee;      }            p{        font-size:17px;    font-family:"Comic Sans MS"      }      p,h2,h3,h4{        margin: 0 0 20px 0;      }            #main, #header, #footer{        width: 100%;        margin: 0px auto;        display:block;      }            #header{        text-align: center;         border-bottom: 1px solid #000;         margin-bottom: 30px;      }            #footer{        text-align: center;         border-top: 1px solid #000;         margin-bottom: 30px;      }            .quote{        width: 200px;       margin-left: 10px;       padding: 5px;       float: right;       border: 2px solid #000;       background-color:#F9ACAE;      }            .quote :last-child{        margin-bottom: 0;      }            #main{        column-count:2;        column-gap:20px;        column-rule: 1px solid #000;        -moz-column-count: 2;        -webkit-column-count: 2;        -moz-column-gap: 20px;        -webkit-column-gap: 20px;        -moz-column-rule: 1px solid #000;        -webkit-column-rule: 1px solid #000;      }       All the rules in the css code are pretty simple. The layout is achieved with that CSS rule #main{        column-count:2;        column-gap:20px;        column-rule: 1px solid #000;        -moz-column-count: 2;        -webkit-column-count: 2;        -moz-column-gap: 20px;        -webkit-column-gap: 20px;        -moz-column-rule: 1px solid #000;        -webkit-column-rule: 1px solid #000; Do note the column-count,column-gap and column-rule properties. These properties make the two column layout possible. Please have a look at the picture below to see why I used prefixes for Chrome (webkit) and Firefox(moz). It clearly indicates that the CSS 3 column layout are not supported from Firefox and Chrome.   Finally I test my simple HTML 5 page using the latest versions of Firefox,Internet Explorer and Chrome. In my machine I have installed Firefox 15.0.1.Have a look at the picture below to see how the page looks  I have installed Google Chrome 21.0 in my machine.Have a look at the picture below to see how the page looks Have a look at the picture below to see how my page looks in IE 10.  My page looks the same in all browsers. Hope it helps!!!

  • HTML5 CSS3 layout not working

    - by John.Weland
    I have been asked by a local MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) School to help them develop a website. For the life of me I CANNOT get the layout to work correctly. When I get one section set where it should be another moves out of place! here is a pic of the layout: here The header should be a set height as should the footer the entire site at its widest point should be 1250px with the header/content area/footer and the like being 1240px the black in the picture is a scaling background to expand wider as larger resolution systems are viewing them. The full site should be a minimum-height of 100% but scale virtually as content in the target area deems necessary. My biggest issue currently is that my "sticky" footer doesn't stick once the content has stretched the content target area virtually. the Code is not pretty but here it is: HTML5 <!doctype html> <html> <head> <link rel="stylesheet" href="menu.css" type="text/css" media="screen"> <link rel="stylesheet" href="master.css" type="text/css" media="screen"> <meta charset="utf-8"> <title>Untitled Document</title> </head> <body bottommargin="0" leftmargin="0" rightmargin="0" topmargin="0"> <div id="wrap" class="wrap"><div id="logo" class="logo"><img src="images/comalogo.png" width="100" height="150"></div> <div id="header" class="header">College of Martial Arts</div> <div id="nav" class="nav"> <ul id="menu"><b> <li><a href="#">News</a></li> <li>·</li> <li><a href="#">About Us</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">The Instructors</a></li> <li><a href="#">Our Arts</a></li> </li> </ul> <li>·</li> <li><a href="#">Location</a></li> <li>·</li> <li><a href="#">Gallery</a></li> <li>·</li> <li><a href="#">MMA.tv</a></li> <li>·</li> <li><a href="#">Schedule</a></li> <li>·</li> <li><a href="#">Fight Gear</a></li></b> </div> <div id="social" class="social"> <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Canyon-Lake-College-of-Martial-Arts/189432551104674"><img src="images/soc/facebook.png"></a> <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/CanyonLakeMMA"><img src="images/soc/twitter.png"></a> <a href="https://plus.google.com/108252414577423199314/"><img src="images/soc/google+.png"></a> <a href="http://youtube.com/user/clmmatv"><img src="images/soc/youtube.png"></a></div> <div id="mid" class="mid">test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br>test <br></div> <div id="footer" class="footer"> <div id="contact" style="left:0px;">tel: (830) 214-4591<br /> e: [email protected]<br /> add: 1273 FM 2673, Sattler, TX 78133<br /> </div> <div id="affiliates" style="right:0px;">Hwa Rang World Tang soo Do</div> <div id="copyright">Copyright © College of Martial Arts</div> </div> </body> </html> CSS3 -Dropdown Menu- @charset "utf-8"; } Eventually once the layout is correct I have to use PHP to make calls for where data should be displayed from what database. If anyone can help me to fix this layout and clean up the crap code, I'd be much appreciated.. I've spent weeks trying to figure this out.

  • Webkit CSS3 for Mozilla

    - by NebNeb
What is the equivalent of -webkit-transition: opacity 0.6s linear; in -moz? I tried replacing -webkit with -moz but nothing happened. I even tried extending it to -moz-transition-property/duration but with no success.

  • In CSS, want to override my a:link and a:hover directives to for a specific span

    - by brendan
This will probably be a softball for you CSS folks... I have a site like this: <div id="header"> <span class="myheader">This is the name of my awesome site!!!!</span> </div> <div id="content">whole bunch of other stuff</div> <div="sidemenu"><ul><li>something</li><li>something else</li></ul> <div id="footer">Some footer stuff will go here....</div> In my css I have some directives to format the hyperlinks: a:link { text-decoration: none; color : #ff6600; border: 0px; -moz-outline-style: none;} a:active { text-decoration: underline; color : #ff6600; border: 0px; -moz-outline-style: none;} a:visited { text-decoration: none; color : #ff6600; border: 0px; -moz-outline-style: none;} a:hover { text-decoration: underline; color : #000; border: 0px; -moz-outline-style: none;} a:focus { outline: none;-moz-outline-style: none;} Now here is the problem. In my header I have some text that is a link, but I do not want to to format it like all the other links in the site. So basically I want my a:link, a:hover, etc to ignore anything in the "header" div. How can I do this? Assume I need to override this for that div/span?

  • extra white line under li items that have no border

    - by isabel018
I have a problem with extra white lines showing up under my list items. It's not a border as I haven't set any borders, except the one under My Account, it's just to show that the white line is not a border. The one under it is -- a 4px border the same color as the background. This problem occurred after I had resolved a conflict between my Nivo Slider and the Woocommerce plugin on my WP site. I got both of them to work together, but then this other issue with the list cropped up. Any ideas as to what caused this and how to fix it? Here's my CSS if that helps: #header #navigation ul.nav > li.current_page_item > a { color: #D4145A;} #header #navigation ul.nav > li:hover a { border-width: 0px 0px 4px; border-style: none none solid; border-color: -moz-use-text-color -moz-use-text-color rgb(212, 20, 90); -moz-border-top-colors: none; -moz-border-right-colors: none; -moz-border-bottom-colors: none; -moz-border-left-colors: none; border-image: none; background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% rgb(212, 20, 90);} and the HTML for it too: <nav id="navigation" class="col-full parent" role="navigation"> <ul id="main-nav" class="nav fl parent"> <li class="page_item"></li> <li class="page_item page-item-11"></li> <li class="page_item page-item-12"></li> <li class="page_item page-item-13 parent"></li> <li class="page_item page-item-15 current_page_item parent"> <a href=""></a> <ul class="children"></ul></li> </ul> </nav> Help please! I'm at my wits' end! Thanks!

  • Are these Mozilla-specific CSS styles doing anything?

    - by DisgruntledGoat
I'm working with some CSS (from a Joomla template) like this: div#logo { -moz-background-clip: border; -moz-background-inline-policy: continuous; -moz-background-origin: padding; background: transparent url(../images/head.png) no-repeat scroll 0 0; ... } I've looked up some of those -moz- properties and they seem to be assigned their default values, and if I turn them off in Firebug nothing happens visibly. Would there be a reason to add them to a CSS file? Are they for an old version of Firefox perhaps?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Issues: May have some rendering issues in some versions of IE, sorry :-) Instruments: css file html with specific menu format jQuery-ui library - optional if you want to use your own images/colors Implementation Details: HTML: <div id="header">   <div id="header_Menubar">     <ul class="linkList0 ui-tabs-nav ui-helper-reset ui-helper-clearfix ui-widget-header ui-corner-all">         <li class="first more ui-state-default ui-corner-top ui-tabs-selected"><a title="Home" href="/Home">Home</a>             <ul class="linkList01 ui-tabs-nav ui-helper-reset ui-helper-clearfix ui-widget-header ui-corner-all">                 <li class="ifirst ui-state-default ui-corner-top"><abbr title="Go Home"></abbr><a title="Home" href="/Home">Home</a></li>             </ul>         </li>         <li class="more ui-state-default ui-corner-top ui-tabs-selected"><a title="Menu 2" href="/Menu2a">Menu 2</a>             <ul class="linkList01 ui-tabs-nav ui-helper-reset ui-helper-clearfix ui-widget-header ui-corner-all">                 <li class="ifirst ui-state-default ui-corner-top"><abbr title="Menu 2 a"></abbr><a title="Menu 2 a" href="/Menu2a">Menu 2 a</a></li>                 <li class="ilast ui-state-default ui-corner-top"><abbr title="Menu 2 b"></abbr><a title="Menu 2 b" href="/Menu2b">Menu 2 b</a></li>             </ul>         </li>         <li class="more red ui-state-default ui-corner-top ui-tabs-selected"><a title="Menu 3" href="/Menu3 d">Menu 3</a>             <ul class="linkList01 ui-tabs-nav ui-helper-reset ui-helper-clearfix ui-widget-header ui-corner-all">                 <li class="ifirst ui-state-default ui-corner-top"><abbr title="Menu 3 a"><a title="Menu 3 a" href="/Menu3a">Menu 3 a</a></abbr></li>                 <li class="ui-state-default ui-corner-top"><abbr title="Menu 3 b"><a title="Menu 3 b" href="/Menu3b">Menu 3 b</a></abbr></li>                 <li class="ui-state-default ui-corner-top"><abbr title="Menu 3 c"><a title="Menu 3 c" href="/Menu3c">Menu 3 c</a></abbr></li>                 <li class="ilast ui-state-default ui-corner-top"><abbr title="Menu 3 d"><a title="Menu 3 d" href="/Menu3d">Menu 3 d</a></abbr></li>             </ul>         </li>     </ul>     </div> </div> CSS: /*    =Menu     -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------    */ #header #header_Menubar {     margin: 0; • css menu <ul><li> dinamically centered or width of buttons that covers the whole page

    - by Tony Stark
    I am building a home page for my minecraft server. Probably in the following 4-6 months I will opend my second and this is why I am in trouble. My first site is 1000 pixel wide, and the second will be 1200. First big difference. My menus are dinamically generated by my php code. It checks on my databases if there is another button or it is over. These buttons can be added or removed directly online. Another big issue is the browser compatibility. In a survey I did on our previous server I had a lot of users using: chrome, internet explorer, safari and firefox. That means that I must find a solution that is compatible with most browsers. What do I have to do? I came up with this CSS, which is touch compatible, it allows menus to be swapped to the left and it is enough to set 1 parameter to fix it for every page width. Sadly it is left aligned. body, nav, ul, li, a {margin: 0; padding: 0;} body {font-family: Verdana,"Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; } a {text-decoration: none;} .container { max-width: 900px; margin: 0px auto 0px auto; } .toggleMenu { display: none; background: #666; padding: 10px 15px; color: #999999; } .nav { border: 1px solid #424242; background-color: #121212; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#686868', endColorstr='#121212'); background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, from(#686868), to(#121212)); background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); background-image: -o-linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); background-image: -ms-linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); background-image: linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 1px #777, 0 1px 0 #666 inset; -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 1px #777, 0 1px 0 #666 inset; box-shadow: 0 1px 1px #777, 0 1px 0 #666 inset; list-style: none; *zoom: 1; position: relative; } .nav:before,.nav:after { content: " "; display: table; } .nav:after { clear: both; } .nav ul { list-style: none; width: 11em; z-index: 1; background-color: #121212; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); } .nav a { padding: 10px 15px; color:#999999; text-transform: uppercase; font: bold 11px Arial, Helvetica; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: 0 1px 0 #000; *zoom: 1; } .nav a:hover{ color:#000000; background-color: #B2B2B2; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#D3D3D3', endColorstr='#B2B2B2'); background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, from(#D3D3D3), to(#B2B2B2)); background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); background-image: -o-linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); background-image: -ms-linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); background-image: linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); } /*Delimitazione di ogni tab | HOME | */ .nav li { position: relative; border-right: 1px solid #424242; -moz-box-shadow: 1px 0 0 #686868; -webkit-box-shadow: 1px 0 0 #686868; box-shadow: 1px 0 0 #686868; } .nav > li { float: left; border-top: 1px solid #424242; z-index: 200; } .nav > li > .parent { background-image: url("../downArrow.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: center right; } .nav > li li > .parent { background-image: url("../rightArrow.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: center right; } .nav > li > a { display: block; } .nav li ul { position: absolute; left: -9999px; z-index: 100; } /* freccetta che indica un sottomenu nell'ultimo tab */ .nav > li:last-child li > .parent{ background-image: url("../leftArrow.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: left; } /*flip subsubmenu*/ .nav li.last.hover > ul { left:auto; right: 0; } .nav > li.hover > ul { left: 0; } .nav li li.hover > ul { left: 100%; top: 0; } /* Spostare il 2^ sottomenu a sinistra */ .nav li.last li.hover ul { left:auto; right: 100%; top:0; } .nav li li a { display: block; background-color: #686868; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); z-index:100; border-top: 1px solid #686868; } .nav li li li a { background-color: #686868; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); z-index:200; border-top: 1px solid #686868; } .nav li li li li a { display: block; background-color: #686868; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); z-index:300; border-top: 1px solid #686868; } .nav li li li li a { background-color: #686868; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); z-index:400; border-top: 1px solid #686868; } @media screen and (max-width: 768px) { .active { display: block; } .nav > li { float: none; } .nav > li > .parent { background-position: 95% 50%; } .nav li li .parent { background-image: url("../downArrow.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: 95% 50%; } .nav ul { display: block; width: 100%; } .nav > li.hover > ul , .nav li li.hover ul { position: static; } } My girlfriend (who adapted this code) is really busy for school and cannot help me. Leaving the borders on the whole square (page width), is it possible to make buttons cover the page width dinamically? Or is it possible to center the buttons? Thank you very much!

  • SSH Proxy (SOCKS) through remote computer - TCP & DNS

    - by Moz Morris
My problem: Need DNS to be resolved through my remote machine. So I have a REMOTE that I can access from LOCAL via SERVER. This REMOTE can access a host TARGET_HOST. TARGET_HOST is setup in REMOTE's host file like so: 123.123.123.123 TARGET_HOST I want to be able to access (in the browser & my application) TARGET_HOST from LOCAL. I have setup a 'proxy' like so: LOCAL to SERVER: ssh -L 4567:LOCAL:4568 user@SERVER SERVER to REMOTE: ssh -D 4568 user@REMOTE LOCAL's network config is setup to use a proxy on localhost through port 4567. So, everything is great and I can see TARGET_HOST in my browser. The problem I have is that the DNS doesn't resolve from LOCAL and therefore some code I have going on in my application, fails. Can anyone help me? Can anyone suggest a better method?

  • Learning frameworks without learning languages

    - by Tom Morris
I've been reading up on GUI frameworks including WPF, GTK and Cocoa (UIKit). I don't really do anything related to Windows (I'm a Mac and Linux guy) or .NET, but I'd like to be able to throw together GUIs for various operating systems. We are in the enviable position now of having high level scripting languages that work with all of the major GUI toolkits. If you are doing Linux GUI programming, you could use GTK in C, but why not just use PyGTK (or PyQt). Similarly, for Java, one can use JRuby. For Mac, there's MacRuby. And on .NET, there's IronRuby. This is all fine and good, and if you are building a serious project, there are tradeoffs that you might encounter when deciding whether to, say, build a WPF app in C# or in IronRuby, or whether you are going to use PyGTK or not. The subjective question I have is: what about learning those frameworks? Are there strong reasons why one should or should not learn something like WPF or Cocoa in a language one is familiar with rather than having to learn a new language as well? I'm not saying you should never learn the language. If you are building Windows applications and you don't know C#, that might be a bit of a problem. But do you think it is okay to learn the framework first? This is both a general question and a specific question. I've used some Cocoa classes from Ruby and Python using things like PyObjC and there always seems to be an impedance mismatch because of the way Objective C libraries get built. Experiences and strong opinions welcome!

  • Best practices for periodically saving game state to disk

    - by Ben Morris
I'm working on an MMO. All of the player and environment data lives on a server and is kept in memory. There's a "world" object which keeps track of all of the maps, characters, etc. and their relations to each other. To avoid data loss in case of a crash, I've been periodically serializing the world to disk. The trouble is, this object can be quite large, so when the server starts writing, there's noticeable in-game slowdown for a few seconds, which I'd like to avoid. Any pointers on how to go about this in a more efficient way?

  • Handling Players, enemies and attacks in HTML5

    - by Chris Morris
I'm building a simple (currently) game with free roaming player and monsters on a map built by a 2D grid. I've been looking at the methods for implementing characters and enemies onto the screen and I've seen two seperate methods for doing this online. Drawing the player onto the screen canvas directly and refreshing the entire screen every FPS tick. Having a separate canvas to handle the player and moving the player canvas on top of the screen canvas via absolute positioning. I can see some pros and cons of both methods but what is generally the best method for doing this? I assume the second due to not having to drain resources by refreshing the map when the user is not moving, but the type of game will generally have constant movement.

  • Character movement on a 2D tile map

    - by Chris Morris
I'm working at making a HTML5 game. Top down, closest thing I can equate it to is the gameboy zeldas, but open world and no rooms. What I have so far is a procedurally generated map in a multi dimensional array. And a starting position on the map. Along with this I have an array of movable and non movable tile ID's. I also have a class for my player and have him being rendered out in the center of the starting tile. My problem however is getting the movement sorted out for the player. I want to be able to have the character free move around the map (pixel by pixel essentially) ontop of this 2D generated world. Ideally this would allow the user to move around the walk able area of the canvas. this is simple enough for me to do, but I am having problems now moving the world. If the user is 20% from the edge of the screen i want the world to start panning in the direction the player is heading. But I'm rather lacking in ideas of how to do this. I've looked around for some tutorials, but am coming up blank on ideas of how to generate the playable area (zoomed in) and to then move this generated area under the player when they reach near the end of the screen. My current idea was to generate a certain amount of tiles full size to fill the screen and place the player i the middle. Then when the user approaches the edge of the screen start generating the tiles offset by the distance moved and the direction. I can kind of see this working but I really have no idea if this is the best or easiest to code of methods for generating the world. sorry for the lack of code but I'm still just in the theory stages of working this all out.

  • How would the conversion of a custom CMS using a text-file-based database to Drupal be tackled?

    - by James Morris
Just today I've started using Drupal for a site I'm designing/developing. For my own site http://jwm-art.net I wrote a user-unfriendly CMS in PHP. My brief experience with Drupal is making me want to convert from the CMS I wrote. A CMS whose sole method (other than comments) of automatically publishing content is by logging in via SSH and using NANO to create a plain text file in a format like so*: head<<END_HEAD title = Audio keywords= open, source, audio, sequencing, sampling, synthesis descr = Music, noise, and audio, created by James W. Morris. parent = home END_HEAD main<<END_MAIN text<<END_TEXT Digital music, noise, and audio made exclusively with @=xlink=http://www.linux-sound.org@:Linux Audio Software@_=@. END_TEXT image=gfb@--@;Accompanying image for penonpaper-c@right ilink=audio_2008 br= ilink=audio_2007 br= ilink=audio_2006 END_MAIN info=text<<END_TEXT I've been making PC based music since the early nineties - fortunately most of it only exists as tape recordings. END_TEXT ( http://jwm-art.net/dark.php?p=audio - There's just over 400 pages on there. ) *The jounal-entry form which takes some of the work out of it, has mysteriously broken. And it still required SSH access to copy the file to the main dat dir and to check I had actually remembered the format correctly and the code hadn't mis-formatted anything (which it always does). I don't want to drop all the old content (just some), but how much work would be involved in converting it, factoring into account I've been using Drupal for a day, have not written any PHP for a couple of years, and have zero knowledge of SQL? How might a team of developers tackle this? How do-able is it for one guy in his spare time?

  • Jquery tools Overlay CSS Conflict, Image positioned under the overlay

    - by Ami Mahloof
First here's what I'm usingh and trying to do: the minimal setup for this effect: flowplayer.org/tools/demos/overlay/index.html then the Apple Leopard Preview Effect: flowplayer.org/tools/demos/overlay/apple.html Now here's the page I'm having the issue with http://gentle-mist-64.heroku.com/pictures My Issue: when I click on an image the picture shows under the overlay and to the right side, This has to be a conflict between my CSS positioning to the the plugin positioning. when I try this on a blank page with no layout, it works just fine. my layout css: body{ background: url('/images/background.jpg'); } #image_stage{ position: relative; top: 30px; margin: auto; margin-top: 75px; background-color: white; width: 900px; height: 520px; } #image_inside_stage { float: left; margin-top: 7px; margin-left: 27px; } #logo{ position: absolute; left: 725px; top: 4px; } #see_through_box { position: absolute; background-color: black; opacity: 0.66; -moz-opacity: 0.66; filter:alpha(opacity=66); width: 665px; height: 432px; margin: 45px; z-index: 99; -moz-border-radius-topleft: 15px; -moz-border-radius-topright: 0; -moz-border-radius-bottomleft: 0; -moz-border-radius-bottomright: 15px; -webkit-border-top-left-radius: 15px; -webkit-border-top-right-radius: 0; -webkit-border-bottom-left-radius: 0; -webkit-border-bottom-right-radius: 15px; } .inner_content{ position: absolute; top: 75px; left: 75px; z-index: 99; color: whitesmoke; } Anyone Please Help, I want this plugin to work, this is so much better then just a light box plugin, I have used the plugin acros my entire website and would like to keep on using it. I Appreciate any input Thanks Ami

  • CSS Transform offset varies with text length

    - by Mr. Polywhirl
I have set up a demo that has 5 floating <div>s with rotated text of varying length. I am wondering if there is a way to have a CSS class that can handle centering of all text regardless of length. At the moment I have to create a class for each length of characters in my stylesheet. This could get too messy. I have also noticed that the offsets get screwd up is I increase or decrease the size of the wrapping <div>. I will be adding these classes to divs through jQuery, but I still have to set up each class for cross-browser compatibility. .transform3 { -webkit-transform-origin: 65% 100%; -moz-transform-origin: 65% 100%; -ms-transform-origin: 65% 100%; -o-transform-origin: 65% 100%; transform-origin: 65% 100%; } .transform4 { -webkit-transform-origin: 70% 110%; -moz-transform-origin: 70% 110%; -ms-transform-origin: 70% 110%; -o-transform-origin: 70% 110%; transform-origin: 70% 110%; } .transform5 { -webkit-transform-origin: 80% 120%; -moz-transform-origin: 80% 120%; -ms-transform-origin: 80% 120%; -o-transform-origin: 80% 120%; transform-origin: 80% 120%; } .transform6 { -webkit-transform-origin: 85% 136%; -moz-transform-origin: 85% 136%; -ms-transform-origin: 85% 136%; -o-transform-origin: 85% 136%; transform-origin: 85% 136%; } .transform7 { -webkit-transform-origin: 90% 150%; -moz-transform-origin: 90% 150%; -ms-transform-origin: 90% 150%; -o-transform-origin: 90% 150%; transform-origin: 90% 150%; } Note: The offset values I set were eye-balled. Update Although I would like this handled with a stylesheet, I believe that I will have to calculate the transformations of the CSS in JavaScript. I have created the following demo to demonstrate dynamic transformations. In this demo, the user can adjust the font-size of the .v_text class and as long as the length of the text does not exceed the .v_text_wrapper height, the text should be vertically aligned in the center, but be aware that I have to adjust the magicOffset value. Well, I just noticed that this does not work in iOS...

  • Problem with poor font rendering with CSS3 transitions, jQuery, & Google Fonts

    - by Justin
In Firefox, there is no problem. Here's an image: http://cl.ly/3R0L1q3P1r11040e3T1i In Safari, the text is rendering poorly: http://cl.ly/0a1101341r2E1D2d1W46 In IE7 & IE8, it's much worse, but I don't have a picture. Sorry :( I'm using Isotope jQuery plugin, and the CSS3 transitions seem to cause the poor font-rendering. I'm also using Google Font API. Here's what the CSS transitions for Isotope are written as: /**** Isotope CSS3 transitions ****/ .isotope, .isotope .isotope-item { -webkit-transition-duration: 0.8s; -moz-transition-duration: 0.8s; transition-duration: 0.8s; } .isotope { -webkit-transition-property: height, width; -moz-transition-property: height, width; transition-property: height, width; } .isotope .isotope-item { -webkit-transition-property: -webkit-transform, opacity; -moz-transition-property: -moz-transform, opacity; transition-property: transform, opacity; } I appreciate any help with this. Looks great in Firefox! Thanks!

  • Detect if an instance is running with kernel32::CreateMutexA

    - by moz
Hello. I'm working on an NSIS installer, and trying to check if a certain application is running before uninstalling. So, I use kernel32::CreateMutexA call. Here is the chunk: System::Call 'kernel32::CreateMutexA(i 0, i 0, t "cmd.exe") i .r1 ?e' Pop $R0 StrCmp $R0 0 +3 MessageBox MB_USERICON "The application is already running." Abort I put it into un.onInit. Trouble is, the process (cmd.exe here) is never detected. Did I miss something? Tx.
