• How to copy files via terminal?

  This might sound silly for some people but I'm new to Linux and don't know how to use it as good as other people, yes I rad about copying files with terminal but these examples will help me a lot. So here is what I want to do: Examples: I have a file in /home/levan/kdenlive untitelds.mpg and I want to copy this file to /media/sda3/SkyDrive and do not want to delete any thing in SkyDrive directory. I have a file in /media/sda3/SkyDrive untitelds.mpg and I want to copy this file to /home/levan/kdenlive and do not want to delete any thing in kdenlive directory I want to copy a folder from home directory to sda3 and do not want to delete any thing on sda3 directory and opposite I want to cut a folder/file and copy to other place without deleting files in that directory I cut it into.

• Synchronizing audio and video using MP4Box / ffmpeg to concatenate files

  I have two H.264 encoded MPEG-4 files that I need to concatenate. I have been using MP4Box for this task by first ensuring the files are encoded identically (even went so far as to compare output from h264_parse on their video tracks) and then concatenating with this command: MP4Box -cat file1.mp4 -cat file2.mp4 output_file.mp4 This works and the output file is playable, but on playback in Quicktime or VLC the second video's audio starts too soon, making the entire second part of the concatenated file out of sync. I have tried reencoding the output through ffmpeg with -vcodec copy and -acodec copy but the sync issue persists. I have also tried converting to MPEG-2 format first, concatenating with a simple cat file1.mpg file2.mpg > output.mpg and reencoding the result with ffmpeg. This was even worse. I know that I can pass commands to MP4Box to adjust the start time of the audio track, but I am trying to do this programmatically for any input video (in the same encoding of course). I am looking for possible solutions that would not require human intervention / manual adjustments. Or, at least, an understanding of what is happening to make the second part of the concatenated video go out of sync.

  I want to sort out specific files depending on their names, i want a regex that returns true for file names like : 01.mp4, 99.avi, 05.mpg. the file extensions must match exactly to the ones that i want and the filename must start with characters which can not be longer than 2 characters. the first part is done but the file extensions aren't working. need some help the regex that I have is /^[0-9]{1,2}\.[mp4|mpg|avi]*/ but it also returns true for 01.4mp4, 01.4mp4m.

  This has probably already been answered, but I must just be searching for the wrong terms. Suppose I am using the built in Stata data set auto: sysuse auto, clear and say for example I am working with 1 independent and 1 dependent variable and I want to essentially compress down to the IQR elements, min, p(25), median, p(75), max... so I use command, keep weight mpg sum weight, detail return list local min=r(min) local lqr=r(p25) local med = r(p50) local uqr = r(p75) local max = r(max) keep if weight==`min' | weight==`max' | weight==`med' | weight==`lqr' | weight==`uqr' Hence, I want to compress the data set down to only those 5 observations, and for example in this situation the median is not actually an element of the weight vector. there is an observation above and an observation below (due to the definition of median this is no surprise). is there a way that I can tell stata to look for the nearest neighbor above the percentile. ie. if r(p50) is not an element of weight then search above that value for the next observation? The end result is I am trying to get the data down to 2 vectors, say weight and mpg such that for each of the 5 elements of weight in the IQR have their matching response in mpg. Any thoughts?

It seems that in my unit tests that service instance could not access the config file (null pointer) for its setting while it could access that setting when I run "run-app". • Batch file recursively find files and rar them

  Hi there, I have a Parent Directory which hosts many sub directories, and in every sub directory there is .mpg movies. Some of the directories might contain one or more .mpg movies. I would like to automate the process below, which I have been doing manually. Step One If the directory has more than 1 .mpg file, I create separates directories for each and move each file into its directory, naming the directory as per the name of the file. Step Two I rar each video file in its directory as per one of my profiles, by that it splits the movie into 50MB parts, test the archive, delete the source, and instructs winrar to wait if another rar is executing. I am doing this so I can queue jobs manually. Step Three After having all the rars in the sub directories, I start creating a checksum for every directory, therefore leaving checksum.sfv in every directory. Step Four I copy the parent folder and its sub directories to my external drives. I was hoping that someone could assist me in creating a script. I was able to automate the process of creating directories as per the name of the file, and moving the file. However, I never succeeded in automating Step two. I am using the below software Winrar from rarlabs exf from exactfile Appreciate your assistance.

• Got black screen when recording screen from xvfb by ffmpeg x11grab device

  I'm trying to record video from a firefox run by xvfb-run but it always output nothing in the video file except black screen. Here's what I did: start a firefox, open google.com: $ xvfb-run firefox https://google.com Then it will use the default display server number 99. I can see the display information by command xdpyinfo -display :99. A screenshot works very well by command: $ xwd -root -silent -display :99.0 | xwdtopnm |pnmtojpeg > screen.jpg Start using ffmpeg to record a video: $ ffmpeg -f x11grab -i :99.0 out.mpg When I play the video file out.mpg, there's black screen all the time. Is there any parameter I missed? Updates I made progress that the video works instead of black screen only by this command: $ ffmpeg -y -r 30 -g 300 -f x11grab -s 1024x768 -i :99 -vcodec qtrle out.mov Notice it requires the screen resolution matches by specify more options to xvfb-run: $ xvfb-run -s "-screen 0 1224x768x16" -a firefox http://google.com But I still want to get more feedbacks and answers here.

  I'm wondering how I can manipulate the size of strip text in facetted plots. My question is similar to a question on plot titles, but I'm specifically concerned with manipulating not the plot title but the text that appears in facet titles (strip_h). As an example, consider the mpg dataset. library(ggplot2) qplot(hwy, cty, data = mpg) + facet_grid( . ~ manufacturer) The resulting output produces some facet titles that don't fit in the strip. I'm thinking there must be a way to use grid to deal with the strip text. But I'm still a novice and wasn't sure from the grid appendix in Hadley's book how, precisely, to do it.   I have made a Java Swing Desktop application in Netbeans which can play media files I have put the videos in my workspace resources location and in my java program I am calling those media files using an URL which is something like this: C:/users/Dell/My Documents /NetBeansProjects/Media/src/resources/ MediaFiles/ddd.mpg This works well when I run in my IDE and also i have made Jar for this it works well on my computer but the problem is when i copy this jar file on my friends system the interface is coming but when I click a button to play a media file it says: C:/users/Dell/MyDocuments/NetBeansProjects/Media/src/resources/ MediaFiles/ddd.mpg does not exist So, please provide me a solution of how to set the default path so that when I run a jar file on other systems it should play the media file location I am passing as in my program. How to set the path for the location of media files in program? Update The videos are in the jar file.

  I've been looking at the geom_rect example in section 5.10 of the ggplot2 book and don't understand the purpose of the NULL's in the aes function. For example, using the mpg data: g = ggplot(data=mpg, aes(x=displ, y=hwy)) + geom_point() #Produces a plot with a transparent filled region g + geom_rect(aes(NULL, NULL), alpha=0.1,xmin=5, xmax=7, ymin=10, ymax=45, fill="blue") #Solid filled region (v0.9) or nothing in v0.8 g + geom_rect(alpha=0.1,xmin=5, xmax=7, ymin=10, ymax=45, fill="blue") My understanding is that the NULL's are resetting the x & y mapping, but I don't see why this should affect the transparency.

• What does the R function `poly` really do?

  I have read through the manual page ?poly (which I admit I did not completely comphrehend) and also read the description of the function in book Introduction to Statistical Learning. My current understanding is that a call to poly(horsepower, 2) should be equivalent to writing horsepower + I(horsepower^2).   Is there a simple way (on the command line - I want to write a script which compresses all videos in a folder) to reduce the filesize of a video (almost) without quality loss? Is there a method which works equally well for different video format (mp4, flv, m4v, mpg, mov, avi)? I should mention that most of the videos I would like to compress are downloaded web-videos (mp4, flv), so it's not clear if there is much room for further compression.

  Hi, I'm having problems with scriptData on uploadify, I'm pretty sure the config syntax is fine but whatever I do, scriptData is not passed to the upload script. I tested in both FF and Chrome with flash v. • CSS overflow and word-wrap behaviour not helping me at all

  You can see how the filename field should look at http://www.plifk.com/henvic/114 and how it breaks the layout at http://www.plifk.com/henvic/159 If I used 108574main-neutron-star-and-a-very-bad-overfow-will-happen-here-so-sad.mpg I would not get an overflow, but in the first line "108574main-neutron-star-and-a-very-" and in the second line a "bad-overfow-happens.mpg". What can I do to avoid getting an overflow? Please know that I don't want to use quirks (like PHP's wordwrap, neither JavaScript if possible) and I've tried some ways in CSS with word-wrap, etc, but nothing worked out. I've also tried word-break: break-all (tested on Firefox only) but it didn't work also. Even the overflow: hidden; is not working... I'm not very familiar with web designing (indeed I try to do everything by the standards, etc) and I'm completely lost right now. The uncompressed CSS file can be seen at http://pastebin.ca/1802451 Now... I really understand that this is expected once the word-wrap is supposed for text, not characters. • Issues with cross-domain uploading

  I'm using a django plugin called django-filebrowser which utilizes uploadify. The issue I'm having is that I'm hosting uploadify.swf on a remote static media server, whereas my admin area is on my django server. At first, the browse button wouldn't invoke my browser's upload. I fixed this by modifying the sameScriptAccess to always instead of sameDomain. Now the progress bar doesn't move at all, I probably have to enable some server setting for cross domain file uploading, or most likely actually host a separate upload script on my media server. • Win7 playback of dvr-ms files stutters

  I've just had to install Windows 7 on my Media Center machine because my Vista installation had a faulty drive. I've got the latest drivers that I can find - Intel 945GM integrated Graphics, Realtek audio drivers. Things are working OK with one exception. Playback of old recordings, from dvr-ms format files, is choppy. The picture freezes for a fraction of a second, then quickly catches up. The sound is uninterrupted and doesn't pause. These freezes happen once every 5 seconds or so. It's very regular. Playback of Live TV from the digital tuner is perfectly smooth. DVD playback is perfectly smooth. As an experiment, I used the MPEG editing package VideoReDo to create a small test file in three different formats. This program takes the raw MPEG streams and repackages them into the desired container. I took the same clip and created three files in three formats: dvr-ms (Microsoft's old recorded TV format); mpg (standard MPEG); and ts (raw MPEG transport stream of the kind often produced by PVRs). When these three files are played back under Windows 7, the mpg and ts files play smoothly, but the dvr-ms file stutters. The last piece of data I have is that two other Windows 7 machines can play back dvr-ms files smoothly with no stuttering. One is a netbook, with less grunt than the media centre. So there must be something specific about my Media Center machine that's causing the problem. Does anyone have any idea where I can look now? I don't know much about AV software, codecs, filter graphs etc. but I suspect that's where the problem lies. Rendering the video isn't the problem, but extracting the streams is. How would I go about diagnosing the problem? Edited to add: I just used the GraphStudio tool to look at the filter graph on the offending PC. The filter graph it uses by default for dvr-ms looks identical to the other machines, and, interestingly, when I play the files using GraphStudio they run smoothly. Under Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center they stutter. I'd like to see the filter graph for WMP but GraphStudio won't show it. It looks like WMP and WMC are using a different decoding path to GraphStudio. Edited again to add: Today I purchased a new HDTV. The same Media Center driving the TV at 1080p is now playing back the old Recorded TV files smoothly, without stuttering. So whatever the cause of the original problem, using a different resolution seems to have removed the problem. It might also explain why nobody else has had this problem. I doubt many people use Media Centre with a 14in portable TV.

• Free Tool to let you burn an mp4 to a DVD that can be watched in a DVD player

  I am looking for a tool that will let me take an mp4 and burn it as a DVD (you know, the kind I can watch in my DVD player). I tried DVD Flick but when the DVD was done the audio was off by at least a full second. I saw this question: http://superuser.com/questions/89467/burning-a-mpg-fileaudiovideo-to-dvd-to-view-in-a-dvd-player But the tool mentioned there does not say it supports MP4s. Any one have any cool tools for this?
