• Cisco Pix 501 - reaching local host limit, showing odd IP addresses

  I am running out of licenses on my Pix 501, and the show local-host command lists a number of odd IP addresses that do not belong to my 10.10.1.* subnet. Any idea what they are? The only thing I could find was a potential ISP: DINSA is Defence Interoperable Network Services Authority, an agency of the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom. Does not sound right. I don't see any active connections, though. I can't ping or traceroute these IPs, but they reappear after I clear the list, with various other addresses in that general range, up until the connection limit is reached. Based on the number denied, I suppose I would have a lot more of them had I not the connection limit. Very dubious. • scala: Adding attributes (odd and even rows) to xml table

  In a Lift application, I’d like to add a special tag which takes the <tbody> part of the next table and adds odd and even classes (for example) to each <tr> tag. Alternating, of course. While I have found a way to add another attribute to all <tr> tags, there are still a few problems left (see code below). First, it doesn’t work. cycle.next is called too often, so in the end, everything is an odd row. Other problems are that the code doesn’t exclude inner tables (so a nested <tr> would be transformed as well) and that it also affects the <thead> part of the table. Ideas to make this code work? • Haskell - mapping the odd placed values and the even placed values differently

  Hey guys, is there an easy way. To take a list of numbers, say 123456. Then multiply the odd placed by three and the even placed by 1. i.e. (1 * 3) + (2 * 1) + (3 * 3) + (4*1) + (5*3) + (6*1) i was thinking the map function somewhere along the lines. But i don't know how to map *3 to just the odd placed values. Oh and if you could give me the version not in prelude that would be great like the actual function or functions, as if its being imported from an external haskell file Thanks for the help

• VMWare Workstation 6.5.5 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit) Odd Problem

  I managed to successfully install VMWare Workstation 6.5.5 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit). It works well and somehow feels faster and snappier than the same exact version on Ubuntu 8.04. However, there is one slight issue, somewhat hurting productivity: When the guest VM is Microsoft Windows (2K, XP), the mouse cursor turn from an arrow to a hand when it hovers over the Task Bar. When the mouse moves, this hand cursor blinks and the system doesn't respond to mouse clicks. When I move the mouse cursor back to the desktop area, it functions normally. That is, the problem exists only in the Task Bar area. Obviously, this makes it very difficult (read: impossible) for me to use the Start Menu, SysTray and the rest of the Task Bar. My workaround for now is to launch programs via their Desktop shortcuts or via the keyboard. Note: The same exact VMWare Workstation 6.5.5 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 8.04 (64-bit) doesn't exhibit this problem. Anyone seen this problem before? Do you know of a solution (or better workaround) to this problem?

• SQL Server installation leaves odd hotfix folders on the root

  I have about a dozen weirdly named folders, for example 5e812807b3e1b04248ed046794a01b, on my d: drive after installing SQL Server 2008. Inside each folder are two subfolders: 1033 and hotfixexpress \1033\eula.txt \1033\finalsql2005information.rtf \1033\hotfix.rll \1033\sqlhotfix.chm \1033\sqlse.rll \hotfixexpress\files\sqlexpr.exe I get access denied whenever I try to delete any of these files / folders. I tried again after stopping all SQL server services, without luck. Any ideas?

• Huge performance difference between two web servers, odd behavior seen using process monitor

  We have two Coldfusion servers that have a huge performance difference running the exact same code on the exact same input data. The code in questions instantiates a large amount of CFCs (Coldfusion Components, which are similar to objects in OOP languages). I compared the two servers by running Process Monitor and then calling the problematic code on both machines. I learned two things. First, Coldfusion opens CFC files every time it instantiates an object. Both servers do this, so it cannot be the cause of the performance difference. Second, the fast server opens the CFC files directly while the server with the performance problem seems to navigate its way through the path until it reaches the desired CFC file. It does this for every file, even the ones it has previously loaded, and because the code instantiates so many CFCs it becomes very slow. See below the partial Promon traces that show this behavior. It can take over 60 seconds for the slow server to do what the fast one does in 2 seconds. Can anyone tell me what causes this behavior? Is it a Coldfusion setting? Since Coldfusion runs on top of Java, is it a Java setting? Is it an OS option? The fast server is running Windows XP and I think the slow server is a Windows Server 2003. Bonus question: Coldfusion doesn't seem to perform any READ FILE operations on any of the CFC or CFM files. How can this be? • DLP projector has odd colors

  At my place of work, we have several different video projectors, but they all use DLP technology, and the colors are wrong: for instance, yellow looks more like green, and all other colors are similarly distorted. Any kind of presentation or collaborative work is hindered by these wrong colors. On the laptop screen, the colors are fine but on the projector (hooked up via normal short VGA cable, and showing the same image at the same time), the colors look wrong. This is not about one specific projector or one specific laptop; it seems that any combination of projector + laptop has the exact same problem. Someone said that DLP is poor technology, but that's not true. I'm using a DLP projector at home (regular PC connected via HDMI) and the colors are excellent. Still, there's some kind of curse on the machinery at work. How can we get decent colors?

• Odd IIS FTP Failure

  We're running a script on our production box that zips up our database and FTPs it to a backup box every night. Our production box is running Redhat Enterprise 5. Our backup box is running Windows XP Pro / IIS 5.1. Both machines are on the same VLAN (not sure if this is imporatant). The backup file usually clocks in at around 3GB. Every now and again (~5% of the time), the backup script fails. The shell script on the "client side" - which looks at return codes - never identifies any problem since ftp always returns 0. The real puzzler is the wincode: 10035 (WSAEWOULDBLOCK -- Resource temporarily unavailable). My understanding is that this code is normal when using non-blocking socket calls - which would almost certainly be used by any FTP Server implementation. My first guess that it might be a timeout issue doesn't make sense, since we're only talking about a few minutes here and the timeout was left at the default 900 s. Does anybody have any ideas about what is causing this problem, and how it may be fixed? Thanks!

  I have this annoying UI bug when using xCode 4.3.2. Every time i press the space bar, the whole text scroll view jumps. Does anyone know why this happens, or how to stop it? edit: is happens, for example, when I'm writing comments in the code and the sentence contains a space. IT can be anywhere on the document, even in the center, doesnt have to be at the bottom of the page. After it "jumps" it goes back to where it was.

It's running a redirect script that does some text search/replace on html pages, and then saves them to a location on the same machine on the nginx path - then issues the redirect to that URL (it's an art project :D).   Sometimes, when changing between the modes in Vim, I forget to take my finger off the Shift key. This innocent mistake is probably part of the luggage carried over from other terminals, but I have never seen my input treated this way. • HP Printer odd behaviour in Vista Home Basic

  I Have a HP 1018 printer. In my previous PC (with vista home premium) it worked just fine, and still works. In my new PC, which came with vista home basic, the printing almost never works. What happens is as follows 1 - I install the printer, windows says its ok. 2 - I send a document to print. 3 - Printer screen (spool) shows the document for 1 or 2 seconds and then it disappear. For two times it worked after numerous reinstallations, and after I restart my computer it stop working again. Any Ideas?

  Ive been working on some command line stuff with an external developer through team viewer for work, to interact with th CL i use terminal on OSX, when working with the developer i was always watching what they were doing and i also have all the bash history. I dont know any one called richie let alone let them have access to my machine. Is this something to be worried about - the fact that someone has enough access to change that ? Also what does the ttys001 part on the first line mean ?

Then during restart, for a little while it seemed like the buttons attached to the joystick and external mouse were both swapped left/right. Then I went in to the dell touchpad control and disabled the touchpad and re-enabled it and nothing happened. Then a short while after disabling the joystick the touch pad started working. So I restarted to see if it would keep the settings and before login, the touchpad appeared to work, then after login it stopped working for a few minutes while login continued. Then after the login was almost completed it started to work again. It appeared to have retained the settings for the disabled joystick. It seems like perhaps there are conflicting mouse drivers trying to simultaneously or similar. This doesn't seem normal for the touchpad to be disabled for so long after login. What steps should I take to ensure the drivers are right?

• Troubleshoot odd large transaction log backups...

  I have a SQL Server 2005 SP2 system with a single database that is 42gigs in size. It is a modestly active database that sees on average 25 transactions per second. The database is configured in Full recovery model and we perform transaction log backups every hour. However it seems to be pretty random at some point during the day the log backup will go from it's average size of 15megs all the way up to 40gigs. There are only 4 jobs that are scheduled to run on the SQL server and they are all typical backup jobs which occur on a daily/weekly basis. I'm not entirely sure of what client activity takes place as the application servers are maintained by a different department. Is there any good way to track down the cause of these log file growths and pinpoint them to a particular application, or client? Thanks in advance.

• Odd domain switching behavior in Firefox and Chrome

  We have different development severs and a production server. Testing is done in the development servers. As a QA engineer, I'm switching between these servers quite often throughout the day. In Chrome, sometimes I need to reload a page a few times to get it to pull from the newly switched server. In Firefox, sometimes I need to quit the browser in order to get it to pull from the newly switched server. (We have small tags that indicate which server you are pulling from, which is how I know in-browser.) Why does that happen? I'd love to know how that happens (maybe what it's called?) and what the best way to deal with it is. (I know that Firefox has an extension for domain switching; is that the best solution?)

  I want to know is there anyway to explicitly control the packet routing. I try to connect my computer in HK from San Francisco. It is extremely slow and I use tracert to see what is going on. It seems the packet get routed from HK to Europe and then to New York and then to San Francisco. In US, I am using Astound Cable. Is there any suggestion I can force the packet to not go around the world before it reach my computer? Or it is all ISP dependent?

Edit: I can connect to the database and manipulate things normally with the psql CLI and the postgres user.

• Firefox location bar search: odd behaviour with Comodo firewall

  I recently installed Comodo firewall, and it changed the behaviour of my Firefox location bar. I used to type something there and it either redirected me to a google search page or it actually redirected me to the site I wanted at once: If I typed 'imdb cloud atlas' it would redirect me to IMDB's page on Cloud Atlas, and the same would happen if I typed 'wiki' or 'wikipedia', redirecting me to Wikipedia's page on it. Now, it redirects me here. I checked this page and everything is according to what they describe, yet it doesn't seem to act the way it should. And there are no Comodo add-ons or extensions installed on Firefox. Can anyone help me?

• Odd IIS v6 .html file caching behavior: Ideas?

  Our loadbalancer looks for "loadbalancer.html" So today, I deleted the file, but in a browser I could still fetch it. My eyes crossed, I made sure, 3 ways, that the file was removed from the iis web site home dir. But fetching it gave a nice 200 http response, and the file. In desperation, I created a new loadbalancer.html, and put some test text in it, and then this new content was retrieved, and then I deleted this file, and THEN it finally gave the 404 as desired. How can I better understand/control this ? Thanks!

• Ubuntu odd mouse and keyboard behavior when window gains inner focus

  This morning on my Ubuntu 10.10 system when I open a window - for example, system-preferences-about me, if I click in to a field such as "work email", I can no longer close the window with the mouse! Clicking the X on the window will not work. Also, I loose the ability to click on anything else - clicking on the desktop, icons, menus, workspaces, etc. do not work. Even the effect when you hover over a folder on the desktop and that folder highlights - that stops until the window is closed. If I open this same screen but do not click in to a field, everything is fine - I can close the window with the X and everything else works fine. Same thing happens with several other windows I tried. Even calculator - I can open it, everything is fine until I click on a button in the calculator - then no ability to click on anything else. Have to Alt-F4 to close the window. The system is only about a week old from a fresh install (64 bit ubuntu - quad core amd machine). I uninstalled wine, turned off remote desktop/disabled in startup, also in startup disabled visual assistance, bluetooth, dropbox, klipper. Reboot, no difference. The only other thing non-standard I see in startup is nvidia. Using a logitec usb mouse, saitek usb keyboard. Was working fine yesterday. I can not think of anything I did / installed yesterday. I switched themse, then went to update manager and saw two x server / x org related updates and installed them, reboot and NOW IT IS FINE! However, then I re-enabled dropbox, klipper and remote desktop rebooted and the problem is back. Again I disabled and rebooted. Problem is still there!! So somehow I fixed it at least for a few minutes, but now it is back and I am out of ideas.

• Odd SVN Checkout failures occur frequenctly on VMWare virtual machines

  We've recently been experiencing seemingly random SVN checkout failures on our Hudson build system. Google search has failed me; I'm hoping the super user community can help me out :-) We are occasionally receiving the following SVN error when our Hudson build jobs checkout source via the Hudson Subversion plug-in (which uses svn kit): ERROR: Failed to check out http://server/svnroot/trunk org.tmatesoft.svn.core.SVNException: svn: Processing REPORT request response failed: XML document structures must start and end within the same entity. (/svnroot/!svn/vcc/default) svn: REPORT request failed on '/svnroot/!svn/vcc/default' This issue seems to only occur when checking out from our Virtual Machines (Windows XP, Fedora 9, Fedora 12) using Hudson's SVN Plug-in. Systems that use the traditional SVN client seem to work. SVN Server version: 1.6.6 Hudson version: 1.377 Hudson SVN Plugin Version: 1.17 Has anyone dealt with this issue, or have any suggestions? • Odd Apple AirPort Express behaviour

  I've been using a rather old AirPort Express for home Wi-Fi for a number of years. (It's old enough that it only supports WPA, not WPA2 -- perhaps this is an indication that I should upgrade!) In the last week I've been experiencing very slow internet over the Wi-Fi. Suspecting that someone outside my home was leeching from me (despite a reasonable password and MAC address filtering turned on) I decided to change some settings: I changed the SSID, turned off broadcast of the SSID and changed the password. After these changes, I managed to connect using the new password on my iPad. But on the other devices I tried (iPhone, PS3) I was not able to connect. In fact, I only succeeded in connecting when I entered my OLD password! Is this a known issue with ancient AirPort Express units? Is my unit cracked and unrecoverable?
