  • Active directory select and display with asp.net (oledb) (error code: DB_E_ERRORSINCOMMAND(0x80040E1

    - by Phil
I am trying to make a page which displays some user information returned from active directory. Here is my code so far: Dim oConnection As OleDbConnection Dim oCmd As OleDbCommand Dim strADOQuery As String Dim oleReader As OleDbDataReader oConnection = New OleDbConnection() oCmd = New OleDbCommand() oConnection.ConnectionString = "Provider=ADsDSOObject;" oConnection.Open() oCmd.Connection = oConnection strADOQuery = "select distinguishedName, cn, givenname, sn, mail, middleName, displayName, description, telephonenumber, physicalDeliveryOfficeName, employeeID from 'LDAP://dc=foo,dc=ac,dc=uk' WHERE objectCategory='Person' AND objectClass='user' AND sAMAccountName='" & Uname & "'""" oCmd.CommandText = strADOQuery oCmd.CommandTimeout = 600 oCmd.ExecuteReader() While oleReader.Read ADDN = r("distinguishedName") ADCommonName = r("cn") ADFirstName = r("givenname") ADLastName = r("sn") ADEmail = r("mail") ADFirstandLast = r("displayName") ADDescription = r("description") ADTelephone = r("telephonenumber") ADOffice = r("physicalDeliveryOfficeName") ADStaffnum = r("employeeID") End While oConnection.Close() oleReader.Close() I'm finding it hard to see exactly what is wrong with the code. The error message presented is vague: 'ADsDSOObject' failed with no error message available, result code: DB_E_ERRORSINCOMMAND(0x80040E14). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated Thanks.

  • How to avoid OLEDB converting "."s into "#"s in column names?

    - by Andrew Miner
I'm using the ACE OLEDB driver to read from an Excel 2007 spreadsheet, and I'm finding that any '.' character in column names get converted to a '#' character. For example, if I have the following in a spreadsheet: Name Amt. Due Due Date Andrew 12.50 4/1/2010 Brian 20.00 4/12/2010 Charlie 1000.00 6/30/2010 the name of the second column would be reported as "Amt# Due" when read with the following code: OleDbConnection connection = new OleDbConnection( "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0; Data Source={0}; " + "Extended Properties=\"Excel 12.0 Xml;HDR=YES;FMT=Delimited;IMEX=1\""); OldDbCommand command = new OleDbCommand("SELECT * FROM MyTable", connection); OleDbReader dataReader = command.ExecuteReader(); System.Console.WriteLine(dataReader.GetName(1)); I've read through all the documentation I can find and I haven't found anything which even mentions that this will happen. Has anyone run into this before? Is there a way to fix this behavior?

  • Reading DBF with VFPOLEDB driver problem.

    - by John Sheares
    I am using VFPOLEDB driver to read DBF files and I keep getting this error and I am not sure why and how to fix the problem: The provider could not determine the Decimal value. For example, the row was just created, the default for the Decimal column was not available, and the consumer had not yet set a new Decimal value. Here is the code. I call this routine to return a DataSet of the DBF file and display the data in a DataGridView. public DataSet GetDBFData(FileInfo fi, string tbl) { using (OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection( @"Provider=VFPOLEDB.1;Data Source=" + fi.DirectoryName + ";")) { conn.Open(); string command = "SELECT * FROM " + tbl; OleDbDataAdapter da = new OleDbDataAdapter(command, conn); DataSet ds = new DataSet(); da.Fill(ds); return ds; } }

  • Databinding gives "System.Data.DataRowView" instead of actual values

    - by iTayb
This is my code: string SQL = "SELECT email FROM members WHERE subscribe=true"; string myConnString = Application["ConnectionString"].ToString(); OleDbConnection myConnection = new OleDbConnection(myConnString); OleDbCommand myCommand = new OleDbCommand(SQL, myConnection); myConnection.Open(); OleDbDataAdapter MyAdapter = new OleDbDataAdapter(myCommand); DataSet ds = new DataSet(); MyAdapter.Fill(ds); MailsListBox.DataSource = ds; MailsListBox.DataBind(); GridView1.DataSource = ds; GridView1.DataBind(); myConnection.Close(); And so it looks: As you see, the GridView shows the dataset just fine, and the ListBox fails it. What happened? How can I fix it? Thank you very much.

  • How to read a CLOB column in Oracle using OleDb ?

    - by T.Falise
Hi, I have created a table on an Oracle 10g database with this structure : create table myTable ( id number(32,0) primary key, myData clob ) I can insert rows in the table without any problem, but when I try to read data from the table using OleDb connection, I get an exception. Here is the code I use : using (OleDbConnection dbConnection = new OleDbConnection("ConnectionString")) { dbConnection.Open(); OleDbCommand dbCommand = dbConnection.CreateCommand(); dbCommand.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM myTable WHERE id=?"; dbCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("ID", id); OleDbDataReader dbReader = dbCommand.ExecuteReader(); } The exception details seems to point on an unsupported data type : System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Unspecified error Oracle error occurred, but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle. Data type is not supported. Does anyone know how I can read this data using the OleDb connection ? PS : The driver used in this case is the Microsoft one.

  • How to specify numeric width and precision when creating a dBase database?

    - by Stevo3000
We need to be able to create a dBase database (.dbf file) containing numeric columns with specific width and precision. I seem to be able to set the precision but not the width. The following code shows my connection string and my command text. using (OleDbConnection oConnection = new OleDbConnection(String.Format("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source = {0};Extended Properties=dBase 5.0", msPath))) { .... oCommand.CommandText = "CREATE TABLE [Field] ([Id] Numeric (15, 3))"; oCommand.ExecuteNonQuery(); } This gives me a column Id,20,3 in the file. There must be a way to set the field width without resorting to editing the .dbf file manually? Has nobody else come across this before when creating shapefiles?

  • Excel - referenced values via OleDB from .Net client

    - by ho
I'm trying to read an Excel file (.xls, I think Excel 2003 compatible) via OleDB, but it fails to get the values for referenced fields. This is my current test code (please note, this is just part of the class): Private m_conn As OleDbConnection Public Sub New(ByVal fileName As String) Dim connString As String = String.Format("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source={0};Extended Properties=Excel 8.0;", fileName) m_conn = New OleDbConnection(connString) m_conn.Open() End Sub Public Sub GetSheet(ByVal sheet As String) Dim query As String = String.Format("SELECT * FROM [{0}]", sheet) Using cmd As OleDbCommand = m_conn.CreateCommand() cmd.CommandText = query Dim ds As New DataSet() Dim a As New OleDbDataAdapter(cmd) Using rdr As OleDbDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader() While rdr.Read() Debug.WriteLine(rdr.Item(0).ToString()) End While End Using End Using End Sub But if the value is a reference (something like =+'MySheetName'!K37), I just get a DBNull from the call to rdr.Item(0). I can get around this by automating Excel instead, but would prefer not to have to use Excel automation so wondering if anyone knows how to do it.

  • Problem using OLEDBCOMMANDBUILDER.

    - by Lullly
So, here it goes: I need to copy data from table in access database, in another table from another access database. Column names from tables are the same, except the fact that the FROM table has 5 columns, the TO table has 6. here is my code: dsFrom.Clear() dsTO.Clear() daFrom = Nothing daTO = Nothing conn_string1 = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="etc.mdb;" conn_string2 = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="database.mdb;" query1 = "Select * from nomenclator_produse" query2 = "Select * from nomenclator_produse" Conn1 = New OleDbConnection(conn_string1) conn2 = New OleDbConnection(conn_string2) Conn1.Open() conn2.Open() daFrom = New OleDbDataAdapter(query1, Conn1) daTO = New OleDbDataAdapter(query2, conn2) daFrom.AcceptChangesDuringFill = False dsFrom.HasChanges() daFrom.Fill(dsFrom, "nomenclator_Produse") dsFrom.HasChanges() Dim cb = New OleDbCommandBuilder(daFrom) dsTO = dsFrom.Copy daTO.UpdateCommand = cb.GetUpdateCommand daTO.InsertCommand = cb.GetInsertCommand daTO.Update(dsTO, "nomenclator_produse") Because the FROM table has 5 rows and the other has 6, i'm trying to use the InsertCommand generated by the DataAdapter of the first table. It works, only that it inserts the data from the FROMTABLE in the same FROMTABLE, instead of TOTABLE. :| please help me :(

  • Add User to Database not working

    - by user1850189
I'm really new to ASP.net and I am currently trying to create a registration page on a site. I was successful in adding a user to the database but I decided to add another feature into the code to check what userID's were available. For example, if a user deleted their account their userID would become available for use again. I'm trying to find the min value and the max value and add or subtract 1 depending on whether it is min or max. I can run the code I have written for this with no errors but the user is not added to the database. Can anyone help me figure out what I'm missing from my code to do this? EDIT Code adds a user to database but it adds the new user at -1 instead. I don't seem to be able to see where the issue is. If (aDataReader2.Read() = False) Then aConnection1 = New OleDbConnection(aConnectionString) aConnection1.Open() aQuery = "Insert Into UserDetails " aQuery = aQuery & "Values ('" & userID & "','" & userFName & "','" & userLName & "','" & userEmail & "','" & userUsername & "','" & userPassword & "')" aCommand = New OleDbCommand(aQuery, aConnection1) aCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() aConnection1.Close() ElseIf (min = 1) Then aConnection2 = New OleDbConnection(aConnectionString) aConnection2.Open() aCommand = New OleDbCommand(aQuery3, aConnection2) aDataReader2 = aCommand.ExecuteReader() userID = max + 1 aQuery = "Insert Into UserDetails " aQuery = aQuery & "Values ('" & userID & "','" & userFName & "','" & userLName & "','" & userEmail & "','" & userUsername & "','" & userPassword & "')" aCommand = New OleDbCommand(aQuery, aConnection2) aCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() aConnection2.Close() Else aConnection3 = New OleDbConnection(aConnectionString) aConnection3.Open() aCommand = New OleDbCommand(aQuery2, aConnection3) aDataReader2 = aCommand.ExecuteReader userID = min - 1 aQuery = "Insert Into UserDetails " aQuery = aQuery & "Values ('" & userID & "','" & userFName & "','" & userLName & "','" & userEmail & "','" & userUsername & "','" & userPassword & "')" aCommand = New OleDbCommand(aQuery, aConnection3) aCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() aConnection3.Close() lblResults.Text = "User Account successfully created" btnCreateUser.Enabled = False End If Here's the code I used to get the max and min values from the database. I'm getting a value of 0 for both of them - when min should be 1 and max should be 5 Dim minID As Integer Dim maxID As Integer aQuery2 = "Select Min(UserID) AS '" & [minID] & "' From UserDetails" aQuery3 = "Select Max(UserID) AS ' " & [maxID] & "' From UserDetails"

  • C# Excel file OLEDB read HTML IMPORT

    - by Michel van Engelen
Hi, I have to automate something for the finance dpt. I've got an Excel file which I want to read using OleDb: string connectionString = @"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=A_File.xls;Extended Properties=""HTML Import;IMEX=1;"""; using (OleDbConnection connection = new OleDbConnection()) { using (DbCommand command = connection.CreateCommand()) { connection.ConnectionString = connectionString; connection.Open(); DataTable dtSchema = connection.GetOleDbSchemaTable(OleDbSchemaGuid.Tables, null); if( (null == dtSchema) || ( dtSchema.Rows.Count <= 0 ) ) { //raise exception if needed } command.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM [NameOfTheWorksheet$]"; using (DbDataReader dr = command.ExecuteReader()) { while (dr.Read()) { //do something with the data } } } } Normally the connectionstring would have an extended property "Excel 8.0", but the file can't be read that way because it seems to be an html file renamed to .xls. when I copy the data from the xls to a new xls, I can read the new xls with the E.P. set to "Excel 8.0". Yes, I can read the file by creating an instance of Excel, but I rather not.. Any idea how I can read the xls using OleDb without making manual changes to the xls or by playing with ranges in a instanciated Excel? Regards, Michel

  • "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 provider is not registered" [RESOLVED]

I have a Visual Studio 2008 solution with two projects (a Word-Template project and a VB.Net console application for testing). Both projects reference a database project which opens a connection to an MS-Access 2007 database file and have references to System.Data.OleDb. In the database project I have a function which retrieves a data table as follows private class AdminDatabase ' stores the connection string which is set in the New() method dim strAdminConnection as string public sub New() ... adminName = dlgopen.FileName conAdminDB = New OleDbConnection conAdminDB.ConnectionString = "Data Source='" + adminName + "';" + _ "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" ' store the connection string in strAdminConnection strAdminConnection = conAdminDB.ConnectionString.ToString() My.Settings.SetUserOverride("AdminConnectionString", strAdminConnection) ... End Sub ' retrieves data from the database Public Function getDataTable(ByVal sqlStatement As String) As DataTable Dim ds As New DataSet Dim dt As New DataTable Dim da As New OleDbDataAdapter Dim localCon As New OleDbConnection localCon.ConnectionString = strAdminConnection Using localCon Dim command As OleDbCommand = localCon.CreateCommand() command.CommandText = sqlStatement localCon.Open() da.SelectCommand = command da.Fill(dt) getDataTable = dt End Using End Function End Class When I call this function from my Word 2007 Template project everything works fine; no errors. But when I run it from the console application it throws the following exception ex = {"The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine."} Both projects have the same reference and the console application did work when I first wrote it (a while ago) but now it has stopped work. I must be missing something but I don't know what. Any ideas?
