• When running a .jar application with OpenJDK, my keyboard becomes unresponsive?

  I recently downloaded a Java application with the .jar format, and had it running on my computer not so long ago. Now that I'm using my desktop instead of laptop temporarily, I want it to run. On my laptop it was a tremendous hassle to get OpenJDK to even run the application without it going black, and now on my desktop I don't have that problem. However, when I run the application, my keyboard becomes unresponsive and doesn't type at all. This is a really big problem because it's demands the use of a keyboard. It works as normal on my laptop though, and it works perfectly. But now on the desktop its completely useless. I don't know if there's like a keyboard driver I'm missing, but there shouldn't be because the keyboard runs flawlessly everywhere else. I'm using OpenJDK 6 because the 7 has the same 'black screen' I mentioned, so I need this to work within OpenJDK 6. Thanks so much in advance and I'll try to specify as many details as I can. M

• producing pixel-identical images of text between Sun Java and OpenJDK

  My release script produces images of the version number to save me the trouble of manually going into the MoinMoin wiki software and changing it by hand for each release. Unfortunately, since the fonts look a little different on each platform's JVM, the result is ugly. I solved the the font inconsistency by using Lucide Sans (comes with every Java system). (Loading Fonts from TTF files was another option, but was buggy on Mac Java). The result is much better, producing the exact same image on Mac/Windows (), but a slightly different one on OpenJDK (). I believe this is caused by OpenJDK having a different font rendering system (as opposed to different fonts). Is there any way I can get all three of my target platforms (Sun Windows, Mac, OpenJDK Linux) to produce images of text that look identical?

• Eclipse does not want to use openjdk-7

  I am on a new installation of Ubuntu. I install all the updates, and then restart. I then install openjdk-7-jdk from apt, then I restart. Then I install eclipse-platform, eclipse-jdt, and eclipse-cdt. I then launch Eclipse. When I check the build path for my imported projects it decided that during the eclipse-platform installation to install openjdk-6. Okay, cool. The problem is that I can't use openjdk-7 AT ALL. There is no option to use it in the build path library manager. How can I change it so it uses openjdk-7? I tried reinstalling it already, didn't do anything. Just told me it was already installed. EDIT: Failed at the title, fixed.

• How can I select which Java to use?

  I have installed both OpenJDK 6 and 7. When I run "java somefile" from the command line, OpenJDK 6 is invoked. I do not want to change this default behavior. What command can I use to run my non-default OpenJDK 7 installation instead? (I am used to running "python somefile" to invoke the default Python, "python2.7 somefile" to use Python 2.7 specifically and "python3 somefile" to use Python 3 specifically.)

  I want to try out some features rolled out in Oracle's new JDK 1.7. I followed the post:- Oracle JDK 1.7 but the post doesn't seem to help. • How do I install Java?

  I am using Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. I recently installed openjdk-jre6 because one of the websites I use requires java for me to log in. Unfortunately, even after installing openjdk-jre6, I am not able to use the website. In place of 2 text boxes where I am supposed to enter my username and password, it simply shows a message "click here to download plugin". I am using Firefox by the way. I even tried to install java by clicking on that message. But it says "Java Runtime Environment not available". And then gives me a button to install java manually. But I would rather install it from the repo's. Could someone please tell me, what I should do to get Firefox to take note of the openjdk-jre6 that I have already installed?

  As some of you may have noticed, we've recently opened a new repository in the Code Tools project for small utilities which can be used to gather info about the OpenJDK code base and builds. 1 The latest addition is a utility for analyzing the class file versions in a collection of class files. I've posted an example set of results from analyzing the class files in an OpenJDK build on Linux. 2. Most of the files are version 52 files as you would expect, but there is a surprising number of version 51 and 50 files, as well as a handful of v45.3 files as well. Digging deeper, it turns out that Nashorn is still using version 51 class files, and the Serviceability Agent is still using version 50 class files and one 45.3 class file, leaving the remainder of the 45.3 class files coming from RMI.   we are new to Ubuntu.Recently we changed my server OS to ubuntu 12.04 from windows 7 . every one have their own login details. one of my college installed Open-Jdk7. I asked him, where you installed JAVA, then he suggested to switch the following directory su root cd /usr/lib/Jvm Totally 3 folders are there in JVM folder. names are. java-1.7.0-openjdk-amd64 java-7-openjdk-amd64 java-7-openjdk-common generally, If you install Java in Windows, we will get 2 folder. 1 folder is for JDKand another points to JRE. but, in Ubuntu we have 3 folders. is it right? for my conformation, whether he installed correctly or not. I open Terminal. I run the following 2 commands javac java -version both commands are working fine. now I want to set-up Java-Home and Path for all users at same place.because everyone is working on Application server. Can anyone explain step-by-step. Thanks.

  I want to change OpenJDK to SunJava in my ubuntu linux desktop , i have downloaded the "jdk-7.tar.gz" from sun's website, but there problem is how to make the system to use the newly downloaded java ? I tried adding the new jdk/bin/java to my PATH ( from .bashrc ) but that seem not to work (cause probably OpenJDK's path is inside my PATH variable as well , so the system checks that first) Here's my JDK7 : /usr/lib/jdk7/bin/java Here's what $(which java) outputs : /usr/bin/java Thanks in advance

• Unable to find javac after installing OpenJDK 1.6 and 1.7

  I am currently at a loss as to why this is happening. I did some basic research by running: whereis javac -and- find / -name javac ...and I came up with nothing I searched the web for answers but they all seem to focus on javac existing on the filesystem, and that needs to be done is to restore a missing sym-link. Has anyone run up against this issue and found a solution ? I have attempted to install openJDK on Scientific Linux 6.3 with the command: yum install openjdk Thanks!!!
