• Are Plesk server backups useful?

  I'm working for a startup now, and I'm the programmer. Because of our small team size, I'm also handling the server management for now (until we get a dedicated server administrator.) I've never used Plesk before, and the server we're using (a Media Temple Dedicated Virtual server) had it installed when I got here. One of my first jobs was to set up backups: Plesk was already running it's nightly server-wide backups. I created a small script to dump the web app, it's DBs and any assets, tar them, store them, and then copy them to another small server we have (to backup the backups.) But, we're constantly running into hard drive space issues because of the Plesk backups. And I'm wondering, are they useful? If I have the web app and all of it's assets, I could easily enough get another server up and running. Do we need to keep running Plesk's backups? Thoughts?

  Hello: I need to know a name of a company to fix my server install and get my sites running again. Windows 2008 IIS 7 Plesk 9.x The problem started when Level 2 of my hosting company adjusted a FTP users to have certain permissions....apparently he did this outside of plesk and it has been nothing but permission headaches all around. Connections....uploading files, etc. now somethings gone wrong where plesk isnt even loading properly and IIS too... I need to see if someone can fix this remotely before I give the green light to format and reinstall server, IIS, Plesk and Domains! looking to pay a company to get this working ASAP - This is not requested as a free job so I need someone good and who can fix it without the huge hassle of formatting and such.   hi, we're running ubuntu 8.04 LTS and plesk 9.2 our simple task is to set up a periodic black list for spamassassin, e.g. using this script .. #!/bin/sh #! Script by AJR to update local spamassassin rules cd /tmp wget -c http://www.stearns.org/sa-blacklist/sa-blacklist.current mv sa-blacklist.current local.cf -f mv local.cf /etc/mail/spamassassin -f rm local.cf -f /etc/init.d/psa-spamassassin restart now, this script runs fine, but plesk doesn't seem to recognize the blacklist in its GUI. which is annoying, especially because plesk itself writes to /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf. i wasn't able to find out the secret place, where plesk distinguishes between entries in local.cf added via GUI and command line. any help is appreciated! thanks.

• Where is the Plesk Error Log / Or how can I get Plesk running again?

  I currently have a VPS that is running Plesk and for some unknown reason it will not start. All the more information it gives me about it not starting is the following: Operation start with the VPS(s) VEID54635644 service "psa" is finished with errors: #703 Can not start/stop/restart service: service "psa" status is not "running" after command "start". This does really mean anything to me. Currently my server provider does not seem interested in helping me get Plesk running again so I am hoping I can get this going again on my own. I am assuming that there has to be an error log SOMEWHERE for Plesk, but the only thing I can find is located at /usr/local/psa/admin/logs/httpds_access_log and that just looks like an access log, not an error log (it is the only file in the directory). Is there another log somewhere in the system for this that I do not know about? Is there a way to find out why Plesk did not start? Thanks Josh Pennington

• Plesk 9 - Client panel access via client domain, not server host name

  I've setup a Plesk 9 vps recently. The plesk admin is accessible at, say, http://superawesomedomain.com:8443. I'm setting up a couple of client domains on the server. I'd like clients to be able to access plesk via a similar url, but instead it would be something like http://inferiorclientdomain.com:8443. This works ok in a sense, but it always redirect the request for inferiorclientdomain.com:8443 to superawesomedomain.com:8443. I'd like the control panel access url to remain on inferiorclientdomain.com. Is that possible? EDIT: System Info. Plesk 9.5.2 on CentOS 5 (Build 95100504.12)

• uninstall mysql on linux with plesk

  I'm having trouble uninstalling linux on my centOS 4 that has plesk. I'm actually trying to upgrade my Mysql 4.1 version to Mysql 5.0 using the following command: yum update mysql I get an error list of conflicted files however. When I try to remove mysql 4.1 and perform a clean install but when I use yum remove mysql* It deletes all of its dependencies and appearantly some of these are files needed by plesk, which causes my plesk to stop working. A did a full restore and everything is okay now, but how can I remove mysql without ruining plesk? I have also tried: rpm -qa | grep mysql to get a list of all files and remove them one by one, but there's a duplicate in that list, so I can't delete those (because it says it doesn't know which one to take). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  we recently changed our plesk server's main URL from siteold.com to sitenew.com. many websites had their NS set to ns1.siteold.com - does plesk automatically update that to need ns1.sitenew.com? should I change the godaddy settings? attempting to change them states "Nameserver Not Registered" - is this simply the delay required? lastly, when adding a new domain to plesk, one would simply need to adjust the nameserver for that site in godaddy to ns1.sitenew.com or ns1.newdomain.com? (does plesk have a centralized name server, or does each site acquire its own?)

• Plesk 10 - creating and using vhost.conf

  I'm having some issues setting up and using a vhost.conf for one of my domains. So far none of the domains have required any extra configuration but now I need to use a PEAR module, so I'm looking to include /usr/share/pear in the PHP settings for the domain. vhost file created in /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/conf/vhost.conf <Directory /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs> php_admin_value include_path ".:/usr/share/pear" </Directory> I then restart Plesk using: /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/websrvmng --reconfigure-vhost --vhost-name=domain.com Or as plesk says that command is obsolete in Plesk 10 I've tried using /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/httpdmng --reconfigure-domain domain.com And for good luck I've restarted apache too each time. Net result - none of the PEAR includes work unless I edit the include_path in /etc/php.ini! Any tips on how to get this MOFO working? I've had a look through the documentation but TBH I just don't have time to read 40 pages of Plesk manual for one line of code, this can't be that hard, surely! Thanks for any pointers, H

  I am pretty new to the Linux environment, and although I have been using Ubuntu Karmic desktop for development work, I have always prefered the GUI tools and very rarely use the terminal. I am about to launch a site (a VPS) which will be running Ubuntu server 8.04 LTS and Plesk. I want to install both the server (8.04 LTS) and Plesk in a 'chroot' on my Karmic desktop. I also want to test install some packages I have written for the server, and generally familiarize myself with the environment before I signup to the hosting service. I will be running a streamline server (no GUI), with only the following software: PHP Python mySQL PostgreSQL Apache Plesk Third party packages I developed In terms of mail, I think the hosting provider provides a mail service, so I dont know if I will need to run my own mail server. I will like some advice on the following: How can I install Ubuntu 8.0.4 server LTS in a chroot? How can I install Plesk in Ubuntu 8.0.4 server LTS (from the command line) Can anyone recommend how I back up the remote server when I go live (i.e. what tools to use)?. I will need to back up both databases, as well as some config data and installation packages

• Plesk command working in manual script, not in cronjob

  Hi, In order to install a hosting plan, I use Plesk's commands in SSH as specified in their official guide. When typed directly in SSH (Putty), it works perfectly. The line is as follows with obviously values hard coded when in CLI: /usr/local/psa/bin/domain --create '.$url.' -owner mynamehere -ip '.IP_SERVER_PLESK.' -status enabled -hosting true -hst_type phys -login '.$ftp_user.' -passwd '.$ftp_pw.' -www false -php true -php_safe_mode false -hard_quota 100M I then put that request in a php script that does other things after hosting is installed. Now for the weird part: when calling that script from CLI it also works fine, I do a ./myscript.php and it installs the hosting, then sends emails etc. However after I create a cronjob to have that same script called regularly, then the Plesk command fails. The cronjob is started in Plesk as */15 * * * * /usr/bin/php /home/scripts/myscript.php and it works fine for everything BUT the Plesk hosting install, that returns "Unable to read Control Panel configuration file" and therefore does not install the domain hosting. Still this is the same script that I call manually ! On that server are the PHP used to call a cronjob and the one used in CLI different ? What do I miss, help greatly appreciated ! Regards.

• Email not working on testing site in Plesk before DNS switch

  I have to test my website before my DNS is swtiched to the new server. My New server is having Plesk. I changed my hosts file to point to the new server and I tested the site. My Site is working fine. However, When I try to register I have 2 emails sent one to the user and one to the admin. Admin email id is same as the server name for example my site name is test.com the admin email is [email protected]. So email is not sent to the admin. I know the email is not sent because the Plesk his searching its own dns instead of Global public DNS. Do any one know how to make my site see public DNS on sending email in Plesk. If I set Goole Public DNS 8.8.8.8 for MS record will it work.. Please guide me. Thanks in advance..

• Plesk on Windows Server 2008 memory usage

  I have a server running IIS and Plesk. There is a problem every day now in which the memory usage of PleskControlPanel.exe and w3wp.exe slowly increases. And at some point all of the sites hosted on the server go down. Restarting Plesk through its panel will reset its memory usage for a while, and restarting IIS will make it last even longer, but there is still the constant memory climbing problem. I cannot see anything by looking through the event viewer. Has anyone ever seen anything like this with Plesk on Windows? Thanks for any help.

• Plesk Subdomain folder group and permission problem

  I am working on a dedicated server from some web host. In Plesk 9.5, after creating a subdomain sub.domain.com, with login using main account, plesk automatically creates a folder domain.com/subdomain/sub with user and group of root I want to upload some files (the framework api) in domain.com/subdomain/sub itself instead of domain.com/subdomain/sub/httpdocs but I can't. domain.com/subdomain/sub/httpdocs has user and group of [main account_user] and psaserv respectively Is there a way to modify the user/group of domain.com/subdomain/sub from plesk so that I can upload files inside it? Otherwise, what is the next best solution?

• Alow Plesk access (login) only for one domain

  Hope someone is able to help me. :) I have 4 domains registered, and all of them are using the same server. That means, they have the same IP-Address. Thats okay, but at the moment it is possible to access the plesk using ":8443" with all domains. But I would like to permit access to plesk only for 1 domain! That means, if enter: "https:// domainexample1:8443" it should allow the access to plesk. If I enter: "https:// domainexample2:8443" it should forbid.   Hi there, here's my situation : i've Plesk 8.3.0 with one IP and i've registered my domains at godaddy.com My problem : i cannot figure out how to configure plesk and godaddy to have my domains (6) properly working into the VPS. i've only one IP, so i can't have my personal NS and need to use godaddy ns.   I purchased a domain www.softmail.me at Godaddy.com and tried it DNS and getting lots of errors and finally change my nameservers to my server DNS i.e. NS101.VPSLAND.COM and NS202.VPSLAND.COM and created a domain in my plesk panel (Marked DNS & Mail required). After adding my domain to my plesk panel of my server I opened DNS records of that domain and found DNS records are automatically generated to my needs as following 65.75.241.26 / 24 PTR softmail.me. ftp.softmail.me. CNAME softmail.me. lists.softmail.me. CNAME softmail.me. mail.softmail.me. A 65.75.241.26 mssql.softmail.me. A 65.75.241.26 ns.softmail.me. A 65.75.241.26 sitebuilder.softmail.me. A 65.75.241.26 softmail.me. NS ns.softmail.me. softmail.me. A 65.75.241.26 softmail.me. MX (10) mail.softmail.me. webmail.softmail.me. A 65.75.241.26 www.softmail.me. CNAME softmail.me. Finally I waited for a week for I am unable to use my domain. Also in DNS lookup I cannot find any records to my Server except name servers of VPSland. Do I need to add VPSland namesevers anywhere in Plesk panel? If so where? Can anyone assist me where the mistake is?...

• Plesk: Spamassassin ignores emails to redirected accounts

  When I set up email redirects within Plesk 9.5, Spamassassin ignores all emails sent to the redirected address and only scans emails that are sent directly to the address which has a mailbox. Steps to reproduce Set up two mail accounts: [email protected] as a proper email account with a mailbox and [email protected] with all emails redirected to [email protected]. (It doesn't make a difference, if [email protected] has a mailbox enabled or not.) [email protected] -> [email protected] Set up the spam filter on both accounts. I set mine to delete spam right away, but you can just keep the default ("mark as spam"). Now, when you send an emails to [email protected], it will have Spamassassins tags in the email header, but when you send emails to [email protected], they will end up in the same mailbox but will have no spamassassin tags in the emails header and they will not be scanned. Other notes I am using Plesk 9.5.4 on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS with the default Qmail. I've observed this bug since Plesk 8, but I can't stand it any more and would appreciate any hack or fix.
