  • unmet dependencies in Ubuntu 12.04

    - by lee.O
I tried today to install a dvb-card on my Ubuntu 12.04 (Linux blauhai-linux 3.2.0-25-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 23 20:30:51 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ). The installation failed with an error. After that, i tried to install python (it was already installed but i got this error): linux:~$ sudo apt-get install git Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done git is already the newest version. You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these: The following packages have unmet dependencies: python-glade2:i386 : Depends: python:i386 (< 2.5) but it is not going to be installed Depends: python-support:i386 (= 0.3.4) but it is not installable Depends: python:i386 (= 2.4) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libglade2-0:i386 (= 1:2.5.1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: python-gtk2:i386 (= 2.8.6-8) but it is not going to be installed python-numeric:i386 : Depends: python:i386 (< 2.5) but it is not going to be installed Depends: python:i386 (= 2.3) but it is not going to be installed Depends: python-central:i386 (= 0.5.7) but it is not installable E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution). well, i can read and tried the proposed command, but then i get this: linux:~$ sudo apt-get -f install Reading package lists... • Where can I find a large body of *Python3* source code?

    - by Ira Baxter
I'm testing a Python parser. I have Python 2.6/2.7 firmly under control, and some good (large) code samples on which I've tested it. I'm interested in testing my Python3 variant. I've been to various Python open source web sites (e.g., http://pythonsource.com/), which list lots of packages, but they are pretty unclear as whether these are Python 2.x vs 3.x source files. The several samples that I downloaded all turned out to be Python 2.x. Where can I find a number of large Python 3 software source codes? I don't really want 1000 little separate Python3 files; I prefer big applications.

  • Number of lines in csv.DictReader

    - by Alan Harris-Reid
Hi there, I have a csv DictReader object (using Python 3.1), but I would like to know the number of lines/rows contained in the reader before I iterate through it. Something like as follows... myreader = csv.DictReader(open('myFile.csv', newline='')) totalrows = ? rowcount = 0 for row in myreader: rowcount +=1 print("Row %d/%d" % (rowcount, totalrows)) I know I could get the total by iterating through the reader, but then I couldn't run the 'for' loop. I could iterate through a copy of the reader, but I cannot find how to copy an iterator. I could also use totalrows = len(open('myFile.csv').readlines()) but that seems an unnecessary re-opening of the file. I would rather get the count from the DictReader if possible. Any help would be appreciated. Alan

  • Parameters with braces in python

    - by Leif Andersen
If you look at the following line of python code: bpy.ops.object.particle_system_add({"object":bpy.data.objects[2]}) you see that in the parameters there is something enclosed in braces. Can anyone tell me what the braces are for (generically anyway)? I haven't really seen this type of syntax in python and I can't find any documentation on it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • : for displaying all elements in a multidimensional array in python 3.1.

    - by Leif Andersen
I have a multidimensional array in python like: arr = [['foo', 1], ['bar',2]] Now, if I want to print out everything in the array, I could do: print(arr[:][:]) Or I could also just do print(arr). However, If I only wanted to print out the first element of each box (for arr, that would be 'foo', 'bar'), I would imagine I would do something like: print(arr[:][0]) however, that just prints out the first data blog (['foo', 1]), also, I tried reversing it (just in case): print(arr[0][:]) and I got the same thing. So, is there anyway that I can get it to print the first element in each tuple (other than: for tuple in arr: print(tuple[0]) )? Thanks.

  • Why is Python 3.1 throwing a SyntaxError when printing after loop?

    - by bubersson
Hi, I'm trying to run this snippet in Python 3.1 console and I'm getting SyntaxError: >>> while True: ... a=5 ... if a<6: ... break ... print("hello") File "<stdin>", line 5 print("hello") ^ SyntaxError: invalid syntax >>> (This is just shortened code to make a point.) Am I missing something? Is there some other Magic I don't know about? Thanks for your help (since this is my first StackOverflow question and I'm not a native English speaker)

  • Building a Debian package with two buildsystem

    - by queueoverflow
I have a package that needs to be build with both a regular makefile and a setup.py. The thing is that the Debian packaging magic that is invoked via debuild would recognize a makefile and do the right make make install DESTDIR=??? thing and get it working right. When I only have a setup.py sitting there and have dh $@ --with python3 --buildsystem pybuild in debian/rules, it will correctly install the Python module with python3 setup.py build python3 setup.py install --install-layout deb --root=??? ??? I do not know all those flags. And I think that I do not need to. I just want the makefile magic to happen, and then the setup.py magic. How can I tell debuild to do both? When I do the following in debian/rules %: dh $@ dh $@ --with python3 --buildsystem pybuild it will only put the first one into the resulting package. I tried to delete the debhelper.log between those, but that did not change much.

  • How can I get the last-modified time with python3 urllib?

    - by Daenyth
I'm porting over a program of mine from python2 to python3, and I'm hitting the following error: AttributeError: 'HTTPMessage' object has no attribute 'getdate' Here's the code: conn = urllib.request.urlopen(fileslist, timeout=30) last_modified = conn.info().getdate('last-modified') This section worked under python 2.7, and so far I haven't been able to find out the correct method to get this information in python 3.1. The full context is an update method. It pulls new files from a server down to its local database, but only if the file on the server is newer than the local file. If there's a smarter way to achieve this functionality than just comparing local and remote file timestamps, then I'm open to that as well.

  • Install Python setuptools on CentOS 6

I'm trying to install setuptools with no success so far. When I do python3.3 ez_setup.py I get the following error: Extracting in /tmp/tmp6nn4cz Traceback (most recent call last): File "ez_setup.py", line 370, in <module> sys.exit(main()) File "ez_setup.py", line 367, in main return _install(tarball, _build_install_args(options)) File "ez_setup.py", line 55, in _install tar = tarfile.open(tarball) File "/usr/local/lib/python3.3/tarfile.py", line 1571, in open raise ReadError("file could not be opened successfully") tarfile.ReadError: file could not be opened successfully I've been reading and it seems that zlib-devel was not installed when the python installation was done. However, I did uncomment line 358 on Modules/Setup to enable zlib before compiling and if I try to import zlib on python3.3 console it works. I also do not believe a server being down is causing this, as the problem has been there over a month. Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • Repository/Updating/Upgrading Issue

    - by Jakob
The other day I was asked to upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10, at the time I was busy and hit no. I can not upgrade/update at this point, I get (error -11) or a 404 in terminal. In the software updater I get 'failed to download repository information.' I have tried changing my "Download From" setting to "Best" to "Main" and even a few other countries. And in "Other Software" I have tried disabling packages, but doesn't seem to help what so ever. I have tried several of the other commands to try and fix it, such as -fix missing or sudo apt-get update clean. P.S. This has also affected my thunderbird client, I cannot send/receive emails. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. This is the short version, but looks exactly like this fairly consistently. Sometimes it downloads, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it tells me I have an update, and doesn't do anything. If it helps, I have recently had issues trying to install Samba as well, and connecting to the office's NAS Drive. Which works now, but I had to edit /etc/fstab/ and a few other things trying to get that to work as well. I understand it could also be a DNS problem, but this has been going on for a few days, as well as I've already tried changing my DNS server via my computer, however I am not allowed to alter the DNS on our company's router.

  • Vim */dyn support

    - by galymzhan
What does mean the plus sign before */dyn in the :version command's output, e.g.: +python/dyn +python3/dyn +ruby/dyn +tcl/dyn I didn't find any useful documentation on it. When I run :echo has('python3') Vim returns 0. When I run :python3 print('hi') it says E370: Could not load library python31.dll meaning I should install python (as I understand). So I just can't see the difference between -*/dyn and +*/dyn. What does plus sign give to us? Also what's the difference from dyn-less feature, e.g. +python?

  • Error when starting update-manager

    - by Stefb1964
Yesterday evening I ran an update. Apparently the python3-update-manager got updated. However, since today I get an error message when I started the update manager within Unity. A report was sent as proposed. Running an update from within the terminal seems to work normally. Uninstalling and re-installing from the ubuntu software centre didn't solve the problem. I tried throughout synaptic where I removed all related packages (3) and re-installed them after a restart..but in vain so far. I'm quite new to linux and ran out of ideas. Anybody? $ update-manager& [1] 7761 $ Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/update-manager", line 37, in <module> from UpdateManager.UpdateManager import UpdateManager File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/UpdateManager/UpdateManager.py", line 55, in <module> from .UpdatesAvailable import UpdatesAvailable File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/UpdateManager/UpdatesAvailable.py", line 62, in <module> from DistUpgrade.DistUpgradeCache import NotEnoughFreeSpaceError EOFError: EOF read where not expected

  • install python2.7.3 + numpy + scipy + matplotlib + scikits.statsmodels + pandas0.7.3 correctly

    - by boldnik
...using Linux (xubuntu). How to install python2.7.3 + numpy + scipy + matplotlib + scikits.statsmodels + pandas0.7.3 correctly ? My final aim is to have them working. The problem: ~$ python --version Python 2.7.3 so i already have a system-default 2.7.3, which is good! ~$ dpkg -s python-numpy Package: python-numpy Status: install ok installed and i already have numpy installed! great! But... ~$ python Python 2.7.3 (default, Oct 23 2012, 01:07:38) [GCC 4.6.1] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> import numpy as nmp Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> ImportError: No module named numpy this module couldn't be find by python. The same with scipy, matplotlib. Why? ~$ sudo apt-get install python-numpy [...] Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done python-numpy is already the newest version. [...] why it does not see numpy and others ? update: >>> import sys >>> print sys.path ['', '/usr/local/lib/python27.zip', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/plat-linux2', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/lib-tk', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/lib-old', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/lib-dynload', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages'] >>> so i do have /usr/local/lib/python2.7 ~$ pip freeze Warning: cannot find svn location for distribute==0.6.16dev-r0 BzrTools==2.4.0 CDApplet==1.0 [...] matplotlib==1.0.1 mutagen==1.19 numpy==1.5.1 [...] pandas==0.7.3 papyon==0.5.5 [...] pytz==2012g pyxdg==0.19 reportlab==2.5 scikits.statsmodels==0.3.1 scipy==0.11.0 [...] zope.interface==3.6.1 as you can see, those modules are already installed! And how correctly to remove the 'copy' of 2.7.3?

  • Installing Mod-wsgi 3.3 for apache 2.2 and python 3.2

    - by aaronasterling
I am attempting to install Mod-wsgi 3.3 on an ubuntu 11.10 desktop edition with apache 2.2 and python 3.2 I downloaded the source tarball and extracted it. I configured it using the --with-python=/usr/bin/python3 option to configure. This is the only copy of python3 that I have installed. I then issued the commands make and sudo make install. I attempted to restart apache using sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart and get the following error message: apache2: Syntax error on line 203 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on line 1 of /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/wsgi.load: Cannot load /usr/lib/apache2/modules /mod_wsgi.so into server: /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_wsgi.so: undefined symbol: PyCObject_FromVoidPtr Action 'configtest' failed. The Apache error log may have more information. ...fail! The error logs only inform us that it's a segfault: ` I checked to make sure that it's linked against the right python library with ldd mod_wsgi.so and got the output linux-gate.so.1 => (0x00d66000) libpython3.2mu.so.1.0 => /usr/lib/libpython3.2mu.so.1.0 (0x0065b000) libpthread.so.0 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0x00a20000) libc.so.6 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0x00110000) libssl.so.1.0.0 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.0 (0x0028c000) libcrypto.so.1.0.0 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcrypto.so.1.0.0 (0x0044c000) libffi.so.6 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libffi.so.6 (0x002d9000) libz.so.1 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libz.so.1 (0x00eb3000) libexpat.so.1 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libexpat.so.1 (0x00abe000) libdl.so.2 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdl.so.2 (0x002e0000) libutil.so.1 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libutil.so.1 (0x00c47000) libm.so.6 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libm.so.6 (0x00e24000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x0042c000) It seems to be linking against the python3 library so I'm not sure what the issue is. I have read on another question that mod-python can present problems however it was never installed. I saw that the directive WSGIPythonHome can be used to point to the correct python version and created a directory /usr/bin/apache2-python/ with a link named python and python3(the name I passed to the configure script) to /usr/bin/python3 This results in the same error. So I'm pretty sure it's using the correct version of python. I am now at a loss. Thanks in advance for any help. update Using the version from the repository I get the following log when I attempt to request a page: [Wed Mar 21 13:21:11 2012] [notice] child pid 5567 exit signal Aborted (6) Fatal Python error: Py_Initialize: Unable to get the locale encoding LookupError: no codec search functions registered: can't find encoding [Wed Mar 21 13:21:13 2012] [notice] child pid 5568 exit signal Aborted (6) Fatal Python error: Py_Initialize: Unable to get the locale encoding LookupError: no codec search functions registered: can't find encoding [Wed Mar 21 13:21:14 2012] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down If I comment out the instruction to load mod-wsgi, the page serves normally.

  • "sudo apt -get install foo-" causes removing foo package and everything depends on it

    - by M.Elmi
While working in command prompt, I accidentally typed following command: sudo apt-get install python3- and ubuntu started removing python3 and everything depends on it (including firefox and much more). Fortunately I closed that terminal immediately and reverted everything by checking dpkg log file, but I was wondering why an install command should act like remove? Is it a bug? Consider the situation that you are looking for a package name (pressing Tab twice) and going through possibilities by pressing Enter key and those Enter keys remain in the keyboard buffer and.... youhaaaa... apt-get is removing the entire installation in front of your eyes.

  • How do I change my PYTHONPATH to make 3,2 my default Python instead of 2.7.2?

    - by max
I have python3.2 located in /usr/lib/python3.2. I am not sure if that means it's installed but I assume it is for now. Some facts about my system: $ which python /usr/local/bin/python When I type python in terminal I get the following $ python Python 2.7.2 (default, Dec 19 2011, 11:12:13) [GCC 4.4.3] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. Then to find the path I do >>> sys.info >>> sys.path ['', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.7.egg', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/pip-1.0.2-py2.7.egg', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/PIL-1.1.7-py2.7-linux-x86_64.egg', '/usr/local/lib/python27.zip', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/plat-linux2', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/lib-tk', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/lib-old', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/lib-dynload', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages'] So knowing all of this, how do I change my default system python from 2.7.2 to 3.2?

  • parse xml with elementtree, custom sorting

    - by microspace
I want to parse xml file in utf-8 and sort it by some field. Soring is made by custom alphabet (s1 from sourcecode). History of question is here: sorting of list containing utf-8 charachters. I've found how to sort xml here. Sorting work correctly, the problem is with elementtree, I must admit that it doesn't work on python3 Here is source code: #!/usr/bin/env python # -*- coding: utf-8 -*- #import xml.etree.ElementTree as ET # Python 2.5 import elementtree.ElementTree as ET s1='aáàAâÂbBcCçÇdDeéEfFgGgGhHiIîÎíiiIjJkKlLmMnNóoOöÖpPqQrRsSsStTuUûúÛüÜvVwWxXyYzZ' s2='11111122334455666aabbccddeeeeeeffgghhiijjkklllllmmnnooppqqrrsssssttuuvvwwxxyy' trans = str.maketrans(s1, s2) def unikey(seq): return seq[0].translate(trans) tree = ET.parse("tosort.xml") container = tree.find("entries") data = [] for elem in container: keyd = elem.findtext("k") data.append((keyd, elem)) print (data) data.sort(key=unikey) print (data) container[:] = [item[-1] for item in data] tree.write("sorted.xml", encoding="utf-8") Here are instructions to import elementtree module. When I import module this way :import xml.etree.ElementTree as ET, I get a message: Traceback (most recent call last): File "pcs.py", line 19, in <module> container[:] = [item[-1] for item in data] File "/usr/lib/python3.1/xml/etree/ElementTree.py", line 210, in __setitem__ assert iselement(element) AssertionError When I use this method to import: import elementtree.ElementTree as ET, I get this message: Traceback (most recent call last): File "pcs.py", line 4, in <module> import elementtree.ElementTree as ET File "/usr/local/lib/python3.1/dist-packages/elementtree/ElementTree.py", line 794, in <module> _escape = re.compile(eval(r'u"[&<>\"\u0080-\uffff]+"')) File "<string>", line 1 u"[&<>\"\u0080-\uffff]+" ^ SyntaxError: invalid syntax I use Python 3.1.3 (r313:86834, Nov 28 2010, 11:28:10).
