  • Can't type my username and password, random freeze at login

    My netbook runs a dual OS(Windows7 & Ubuntu 12.04). After Ubuntu login screen appears, that’s it, it gets hanged, can't even move my cursor nor type my user name. I had to turn off my system and boot again. Still its not sure that it won't freeze out at login screen again, but this is the temporary solution I have to get into Ubuntu. This freezing at login screen doesn't happen every time, it happens randomly. It seems like I had to enter into Ubuntu purely based on my luck, which is quite irritating. I found many other types of login problem in Ubuntu when I googled, which were quite different from my case. So any1 kindly help me out.

    I am from Nepal and it's faster to download apps from server for nepal using through ubuntu software center. But when i use np.archive.ubuntu.com server. There is no updated softwares and few softwares and nvidia driver are outdated. for e.g. i cannot even install openshot when i user server for nepal. It provides error which cannot be solved. I want to know how can the server for nepal be updated frequently with us.archive.ubuntu.com. i use ubuntu 12.10. and i want to use server for nepal since the download speed faster than 2x than from us server.

  • Merging free space of hard drive to primary partition

    I have purchased a new HDD, I tried to format making 1 primary partition, I converted the rest unallocated space to extended partition then to logical drive now I have 3 logical drives. I feel that the size allocated to the primary partition is less so I used shrink option to the 3 logical partitions in diskmgmt but each partition is resulting in one memory block of Free space. Now I want to merge these free spaces to my primary partition.

  • Needs free/ opensource network monitoring tool for office LAN

    I know there must be a lot similar questions on SU. Let me explain my setup first. I have 4-5 PC, Laptops and Few Android Phones in my office. To get them on a network , I have a UTStarCom, WA3002G1 ADSL2+ router with a landline broadband connection which has nothing to do with any PC except the configuration settings. Broadband channel is always on, we need to switch on the router and the internet is ready for us. No Internet Connection sharing is done via any PC. I have a limited 20GB monthly plan, which is consumed in 10-20 days, depending upon the download requirements. So in the above case, i need some suggestions from you: How do I monitor my Internet Bandwidth along-with the connected systems, realtime? Any free opensource tool available? Tweaks / Changes in PC to save bandwidth as my ISP do not have any Unlimited plan. PC and Laptops are Windows XP and/Or windows 7. Either of the platform tools are welcome.

  • No headphone or speakers plugged in - Windows 7 issue

    I am facing a wierd issue between my sound card driver and Windows7(any edition). I have a sony vaio notebook (VPCEB24EN). Two days ago, on start I got diabled wifi, charging and speakers. Then I restart the PC and everthing worked fine. Later on I again restarted my machine, and then I found the my speakers were not working. I thought, restart will work. I restarted many more times but it did'nt work. I searched google and found that , it might be due to : 1. Hardware is not switched on from bios. 2. No hardware. 3. overriding 64-bit drivers with 32-bit drivers. To make it working, I restored my laptop from scratched, but while restoring pc, the realtek HD drivers, it gave me an error 505. I then formatted the drive and installed Win7 Ultimate 32bit (With PC was, Win7 64-bit Home Basic). I got lots of yellow exclamation in device manager, thinking now this will resolve my issue. But Even after the installing all drivers on a fresh installation, I was still with the same position. A red cross on speaker- No Speakers or Headphone plugged in. Please Note: My Laptop is Vaio , E Series, VPCEB24EN. Audio : Intel® High Definition Audio compatible but accepts Realted Audio. While using BIOS Agent, I got Intel Chipset 5 Series Audio Adapter and ATI RV370 Audio adapter found on my board. Installed is Win7 32bit Ultimate. factory default was Win7 64-bit Home Basic Memory: RAM 3GB/ 320GB HDD Display : ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5145 Graphics

  • Is it possible to save the product key of Windows 8?

    I have Windows 8 activated in my system. I don't have the product key of windows right now. Now I want to format my system again. Is there any way so that I can reuse the key? Is there any way I can get the key from an activated windows machine? Edit: I am not able to find the product key because I have used a MAK as my product key. Now I want the same to use it after formatting my disk. I found a software Volume Activation Manager tool on the windows website. I am not sure how to use it. Please tell me how can I reuse my key?

  • connecting to bsnl wll, with huawei fixed wireless modem with connected to usb port on linux mint.

    On windows, when I plugged in the usb connector, to the device was recognized as a mass storage device and installed all the drivers, to my computer, then the device, automatically restarted and started behaving like a modem, I'm writing this post, using the same modem, through windows... On linux mint (debian kernel, similar to ubuntu 8.10), the device is recognized as a mass storage device, some times, but, has no programs, useful for linux... When I use the modem on windows and restart the computer and login to linux, the device shows up as "not yet configured" in the terminal command "lsusb"... I googled a lot for solutions, tried many things, atlast, configured it and run the command "wvdial". But, get the error, that the modem is not responding, at last ! :'( Please help me out... Many more people are facing this problem, as I could discover, when I googled for it. this is the website address of huawei, the company of my modem...   • Windows 7 freezes on connecting second time to same wifi network

    I am using Lenovo - y470, which comes with windows 7 home premium. I can connect to my wifi network and there is no issue in that. But the problem comes if the network get disconnected and i again try to connect to same wifi network. As soon as i click on connect my system freezes, and i can not even press ctrl+ alt+ del . The only think i am allowed to do at that time is press and hold power button to shut down the system and restart it again. Please tell me how to resolve this issue. Please let me know if some more information is required. OS: Windows 7 Router: Netgear n-150

  • My WD passport detected but not shown on my computer

    1TB WD harddisk is detected in laptop but drives not visible on my computer. Under disk managment drives shown without letters. Right clicking on these drives give 2 options: Delete volume Help. The same harddisk was running well on the same laptop a day before. It is also showing full size of hard drives, Healthy (Primary Partition) etc. (this happened after harddisk usage by guest). Harddisk is new only (about 5 month usage) Please suggest: Is there hardware related problem inside harddisk, if so is it repairable? Is there any option to recover data?

  • Sound feels to come from far in my headphones [closed]

    I bought new headphones just yesterday. The strange thing is when I hear sound from my headphone I feel like it is coming from far away. Main problem comes in games, when I hear the footsteps of enemies and think he is on the other side of the wall while he is near to me. :D I also heard virtual haircut on youtube . I tried this with my new headphones and HTC desire S earphones. In case of HTC earphones I felt that scissors and electric razor( @ 3:04 ) is too much near to my ear but in case of the headphones I didn't felt such thing. I felt electric razor is almost 6 inches away from my ear. Have you ever encountered such problem? What can I do in this case?

  • Making Infragistics ultrawingrid, desired columns readonly

    I am stucked at the situation where I need to disable few columns of a each row ,except newly added row. That is I have 10 columns in grid and I want first three columns that are binded from the rows coming from db as disabled or read-only, rest are editable. if I add new row then all columns of new row must be enabled until and unless it is saved. I dont have any DataKey or Primary key for my existing row or new row.   • Parsing and getting specific values from CSV string

    I am having a string in CSV format. Please see my earlier question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2865861/parsing-csv-string-and-binding-it-to-listbox I can add new values to it by some mechanism. Everything will be same except the new values will have numeric part = 0. Take example I have this exsiting CSV string 1 , abc.txt , 2 , def.doc , 3 , flyaway.txt Now by some mechanism i added two more files Superman.txt and Spiderman.txt to the existing string. Now it became 1 , abc.txt , 2 , def.doc , 3 , flyaway.txt, 0, Superman.txt, 0 , Spiderman.txt What i am doing here is that this csv string is paased into SP where its splitted and inserted to db. So for inserting I have to take the files with numeric part 0 only rest will be omiited .Which will be further then converted into CSV string Array will look like this str[0]="1" str[1]="abc.txt" str[2]="2" str[3]="def.doc " str[4]="3" str[5]="flyaway.txt" str[6]="0" str[7]="Superman.txt" str[8]="0" str[9]="Spiderman.txt" So at last i want to say my input will be 1 , abc.txt , 2 , def.doc , 3 , flyaway.txt, 0, Superman.txt, 0 , Spiderman.txt Desired Output: 0, Superman.txt, 0 , Spiderman.txt

    I have a application which is on timesheet. I have total of 54 columns out of which 10 columns are visible rest invisible. First 3 columns are Project, MileStone and Classes. Rest are Sun- Sat work hrs. Now I have a column named 'taskid' as SunTaskID,MonTaskID and so on till SatTaskID for holding each days taskid. Now on the selection of SunHrs (Sunday's Work Hrs), i retrieve that days taskid and on the basis of task id i retrieve attachments which is displayed under a listbox. Now the problem is that since a day can have multiple attachments and a user can attach multiple attachments at time. He can enter values from grid to. Grid cells are editable. I am using BindingList(of TaskClass) in VB.Net for binding grid. I have total 54 properties n my task class. So i want to what property do i need to hod each days attachment and in what way. Earlier I tried Dictionary. But i was not aware of its usage as a property so i gave. Then prepared a separate class for attachment but, it was difficult to synchronize the existing attachments with taskid...

  • Myself throwing NullReferenceException... needs help

    I know it might be a weird question and its Title too, but i need your help. I am a .net dev , working on platform for the last 1.5 years. I am bit confused on the term usually we say " A Good Programmer ". I dont know ,what are the qualities of a good programmer ? Is the guy who writes a bug free code? or Can develop applications solely? or blah blah blah...lots of points. I dont know... But as far i am concerned , I know I am not a good programmer, still in learning phase an needs a lot to learn in coming days. So you guys are requested to please help me with this two problems of mine My first problem is regarding the proper Error Handling, which is a most debatable aspect of programming. We all know we use ` try { } catch { } finally { } ` in our code to manage exception. But even if I use try { } catch(exception ex) { throw ex } finally { } , different guys have different views. I still dont know the good way to handle errors. I can write code, use try-catch but still i feel I lacks something. When I saw the codes generated by .net fx tools even they uses throw ex or `throw new Exception("this is my exception")`.. I am just wondering what will be the best way to achieve the above. All means the same thing but why we avoid something. If it has some demerits then it must be made obselete.Anyways I still dont have one [how to handle errors efficiently?]. How do you guys decide what architeture or pattern will be the best for my upcoming application based on its working, flow etc. I need to know what you guys can see that I can't. Since I know , I dont have that much experience but I can say, with my experience that experience doesnot comes either from degree/certificates or success you made instead it cames from failures you faced or got stucking situations. Pleas help me out.
