  • Conditional hotkey or include in AutoHotKey

    Is there a way to define a Hotkey conditionally in AutoHotKey? I want to do different keyboard mappings for different machines with different physical keyboards. This is what I want to do: RegRead, ComputerName, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, System\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName, ComputerName If ( ComputerName = BDWELLE-DIM8300 ) { #Include %A_ScriptDir%\Mappings-BDWELLE-DIM8300.ahk } OR RegRead, ComputerName, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, System\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName, ComputerName If ( ComputerName = BDWELLE-DIM8300 ) { LWin::LAlt [more hotkey definitions that only apply to this machine] } but since AHK parses Hotkey definitions and #Include statements BEFORE interpreting If statements, the Hotkeys definitions (whether buried in an #Include or not) do not respect the If condition. Thanks for pointing me to AutoHotKey_L! Do you have a specific example of how to conditionally define a hotkey? The syntax is very confusing.   • How to remap CAPSLOCK to ESC in Linux Mint 12

    I would like to remap the CAPSLOCK key to ESC as this is easier to use in Vim. I can make it in Ubuntu 11.04 as there's an option for this in Keyborad configuration. But recently I switched to use Linux Mint and found that there's no such option. I don't know whether it is the gnome3 that makes this happen, as there are only some basic features to customize. Hoping someone can help me remap the key, thanks in advance. found this article, but the options are not found in Mint 12

    I hope someone can help me out with this; I use a laptop and I like to play games a lot that are arrow key dependent. So after a while of using my laptop, I accidentally broke the Down Arrow key. So I decided to try and find out how to make the Numpad5 button work as the Numpad Down button while Numlock is on. I was trying to use AutoHotkey, but so far I've had no luck. Can anyone help me out with this? So far the scripts I used that didn't work were Numpad5::NumpadDown or Numpad5::Down. Am I doing something wrong here?

  • Getting some French-Canadian keyboard strokes to work on English keyboard

    I'm trying to use some of the French-Canadian keyboard stokes I'm used to on an English keyboard. I would like to change the behaviour of some keys. I was able to implement these changes in Vim, but I would like them to be applied system-wide (for Windows and Ubuntu). Here's what I want to implement : If I press [a, the character printed is â. When I press [r, something that's supposed to stay normal, the characters printed are [r. If I hold [ for 3 seconds, [ is printed. I want this delay to be applied to all my modified keys. I want to map < to ' and the characters 'e to è. The complex problem here is that I only want the ' beside the ; key to produce the è character, NOT when I press the < (remapped to ') then e.     I'm trying to disabled capslock and make the following remaps ctrl+capslock = capslock alt+capslock = escape (since my escape key is broken) right now I'm trying to use xmodmap i have only the following keycode 66 = NoSymbol Caps_Lock this disables capslock and maps shift+capslock to capslock but what I what is ctrl+capslock instead of shift+capslock and I have no idea how to map alt+capslock to escape any help is appreciated, thank you

  • Remap Apple MacBook Eject key in Windows?

    I have a MacBook with Windows 7 on it as my daily driver. My MacBook has a nearly useless Eject key, but I wish it was a forward delete key. KeyRemap4Macboook works great in OS X. Is there any software that is equivalent in Windows? I have tried KeyTweaks and HotKeys and neither of them will recognize the Eject key. I looked it up and I think it is key 161. Is there any way to make the key into a more useful forward delete? Could I just go into the registry and do it that way?

    I'm trying to remap a bunch of my keys and I'm running into trouble. I'm currently trying to use xmodmap but failing. Maybe there is a better way? Can someone explain how I can best remap ctrl-j on the keyboard to produce ctrl-c? It's not as easy as just making j=c. I want this happen only when I'm holding down ctrl.

    Hi, the utilities that come with my HP vector mouse are fairly basic. My old logitech G9, the best mouse ever made (except when it gets senile and starts having 'gaps') had a utility to map each of the buttons to a keypress, which I use in games, such as xbutton1 and 2 for run, etc. is there a utility, or a way, that I can map the 2 xbuttons on my new mouse so that they generate/simulate a keypress? I'm wondering if there are built in mappings in Windows that do this already, and its just a case of finding out what the keypresses are? thanks, Will

  • How to swap ctrl and fn key on a MacBook Pro running Windows 7 via Boot Camp?

    There are sooooo many discussion on the internet about swapping the fn and ctrl key on a MacBook Pro. On the Mac side, a new software called ReMap4MacBook does a perfect job swapping the two key. But on the PC side (specifically Windows 7), I can't really find a definitive answer. Most post refer to this article but I read the loooong article and followed the instructions to no avail. I remember there used to be a program (maybe it was on XP) that not only swapped the two keys but it also controlled the fans on the MacBook Pro. But I can't remember the name and I also recall that that program stopped being updated like years ago. EDIT: It's called Input Remapper. So I am hoping there exist a simple program that I can simply run to swap those two keys.

  • Remap key combinations in Windows

    This question is similar to this one, but the accepted solution doesn't work in my case. I work on two different laptops. On one, the Home and End keys are only available by pressing Fn+Left and Fn+Right. This can make it rather annoying when switching between the two since I always go to press Fn-Right and not get what I want. The tool suggested in the other question is Sharpkeys, however it doesn't recognise Fn+Right as a different key from Right, and I suspect that registry twiddling isn't going to help me here. (?) Is there any way to remap this combination? (I'm on Windows Vista if that helps)

    I'm configuring vim in Mac OS X's Terminal app to do useful things with my arrow keys (among others). For example, I want option-left to move the cursor back one word, similarly to how it works in other Mac applications. In normal mode, this is easy enough; I can simply map the sequence to b. But when I'm in insert mode, I want to stay in insert mode (i.e., map the sequence to <c-o>b. In my .vimrc` file, I have these lines: nmap ^[[xol~ b imap ^[[xol~ <c-o>b Where ^[[xol~ is the character sequence that I've configured Terminal to send when I press option-left. This works, but it gets pretty tedious, especially when I've got nearly two dozen commands that I want to map. Is there a better way to do this?

  • Mapping Ctrl+Arrow for Home/End/PageUp/Down

    I'm using Windows 7 on Dell New Inspiron 14z Ultrabook. It doesn't have Home/End/PgUp/PgDn keys. Instead I have to use Fn + arrow keys. Can I re-map those to Ctrl + arrows or Alt + arrows or Shift + arrows? That way I could go one page up and down with only my right hands rather than with the left hand on the Fn key and right hand on arrow key. Also, volume up and down is assigned to FnF11 and FnF12. Can I re-map them to F11 and F12? Existing functions assigned to F11 and F12 will be replaced by FnF11 and FnF12. Is it possible?

Adding lines like the bottom two of this: section: options keystroke(End) = keystroke(Control+Right,myiMac) keystroke(Home) = keystroke(Control+Left,myiMac) to my synergy.sgc in MyDocuments on the winXP machine would work but causes the keys to stop functioning on the winXP machine. Unacceptable. I next tried a compromise: keystroke(End) = keystroke(Control+Right,myiMac); keystroke(End,myPc) keystroke(Home) = keystroke(Control+Left,myiMac); keystroke(Home,myPc) Expecting that to broadcast the keystrokes to both machines regardless of which one was the Active Screen. That and many other variations did not work. What am I doing wrong? Has someone actually done this?

  • Can't disable Alt + mouse buttons combinations

    I've already searched through the questions, and didn't find the same question as I want to ask. I'm working in blender and there are some combinations that I am used to and remapping them in blender would be the last resort, not the first. I have tried to disable Alt+LMB and Alt+RMB actions in ccsm, I've tried to do this in dconf or gconf editors as well, but nothing helped. As soon as I close the editors or get back to the main screen of ccsm, these combinations are enabled again. So, for example, instead of selecting an edge loop in blender with Alt+RMB, I get this goddamn menu offering me to move the window to another workspace, etc. I really don't need this function, so I'd rather switch it off instead of remapping the hotkeys I'm used to in blender.

However, this time when I unplugged the USB keyboard, the laptops option/command keys remained switched. More annoying is that if I go into the System Preferences - Keyboards - Modifier keys, remapping the keys to actions does not work. I can use the drop downs to disable any specific keys, but switching the behaviours does nothing. (Cmd/Option obvious, tried remapping anything to caps lock and a few other combinations, no joy. Restore defaults set the configuration to what I'd expect, but the settings are evidently ignored.) So: Any ideas?

  • Vim: How to exchange key bindings? (bind '|' on '7' key)

    Having the German Mac Keyboard Layout, it is a pain to type | as it is bound to <A-7> and it is hard for me to reach the Alt key. Thus, I'd like to do the following remapping (exchanging the binding for | and 7): imap 7 <Bar> imap <A-7> 7 The first one works, the second one does not. I have already tried all combinations with inor (no remap) but wasn't successful. Maybe I don't get the concept of remapping. Or I am missing something else.

  • How can I make the function keys the default on a Logitech K760 Bluetooh keyboard?

    I had hoped that solaar would help, but it seems to only work for the Logitech wireless devices that use Logitech's proprietary scheme. I have Bluetooth keyboard (K760). I know it can be told to use the function keys (rather than the media keys) by default because I can do it on under OS X with software from Logitech. Just remapping the keys won't work as F1, F2, and F3 are special in that they switch which Bluetooth device I connect to and the keys are not sent to the OS.

  • Determining failing sectors on portable flash memory

    I'm trying to write a program that will detect signs of failure for portable flash memory devices (thumb drives, etc). I have seen tools in the past that are able to detect failing sectors and other kinds of trouble on conventional mechanical hard drives, but I fear that flash memory does not have the same kind of predictable low-level access to the hardware due to the internal workings of the storage. Things like wear-leveling and other block-remapping techniques (to skip over 'dead' sectors?) lead me to believe that determining if a flash drive is failing will be difficult at best, if not impossible (short of having constant read failures and device unmounts). Flash drives at their end-of-life should be easy to detect (constant CRC discrepancies during reads and all-out failure). But what about drives that might be failing early? Are there any tell-tale signs like slower throughput speeds that might indicate a flash drive is going to fail much sooner than normal? Along the lines of detecting potentially bad blocks, I had considered attempting random reads/writes to a file close to or exactly the size of the entire volume, but even then is it possible that the drive might report sizes under its maximum capacity to account for 'dead' blocks? In short, is there any way to circumvent or at least detect (algorithmically or otherwise) the use of block-remapping or other life extension techniques for flash memory? Let me end this question by expressing my uncertainty as to whether or not this belongs on serverfault.com . This is definitely a hardware-related question, but I also desire a software solution - preferably one that I can program myself. If this question is misplaced, I will be happy to migrate it to serverfault - but I do need a programming solution. Please let me know if you need clarification :) Thanks!
