• What's exactly the nature of .Net Framework 3.5 Service Pack1?

  Hello, I did some recovery disk operations with my laptop because it became instable. Now, I'm about to re-install SQL Server 2008 Professional, but it keeps telling me that I need to install .net framework 3.5 with service pack1. What's strange is I was asked to do the same when I installed Visual Studio 2008 Professional earlier. I'd like to know: what's .Net Framework Service Pack1? is it One piece of software sitting on top of windows ? Several software having the same name so that Visual Studio has it, SQL Server also has it, and do on... And why the naming Service Pack1 behind .Net Framework? I'm really lost. Thanks for helping

• How can I (both) create a row and accessing that row in the same 'Stored Procedure'?

  Hello, I'd like to get the value of the id column for an object just after I've created it. But I don't want to run another query for that. My book for beginner (SQL Server 2008 for Dummies) says that there are 2 tables (inserted and deleted) that hold the last row(s) that have been inserted, updated, or deleted. Unfortunately, only Triggers (says the book) can access those tables. But, if I use triggers, they will go off each time I "insert" a row even when I don't need them that functionality. Can I obtain the same effect with a Store Procedure (without having to run a separate query?) This is what I'm trying to do CREATE PROCEDURE myProcedure DECLARE @OrganizationName @ColumnID OUTPUT AS INSERT INTO Organization (OrganizationName) VALUES (@OrganizationName) SET @ColumnID = (// Please, I need Help here ...) • How do I Uninstall Screwturn?

  Hello, Since when I installed Screwturn I used Web Plateform Installer, I though I'd need to go through Control Panel to uninstall it. But, I saw nothing in the Install/Uninstall section of the control. Rather, I found all the ScrewTurn resources inside the C:\inetpub folder. Clearing everything inside that folder would help get rid of SrewTurn as I didn't copy/paste it there but the WPI did it for me? No side effect to be feared? Thanks for helping

• Development Applications on big devices vs mobile phones: Similarities/Disimilarities

  Hello, I saw a news document on applications running in mobile devices. And, I believe that might be interesting for people where I live (Internet is not developed - but the cellphone networks are much better). So here are my questions: Where can I find documentation for beginners on that matter (And most importantly) Am I gonna be able to take advantage of acquired knowledge in .NET framework (C#, MVC, JQuery, XHTML, ...)? Am I gonna need my laptop or a special device to develop applications? Am I gonna need Visual Studio? And so on... Bref, What are similarities/dissimilarities between developments for applications running in big machines and those running on mobile phones? Thanks for helping

  Hello, I've been seing Func< for sometime now, and I've manage to avoid it (for now). But, now it looks like I can't dodge it forever. For instance, I tried Dynamic Linq, but almost everything was in terms of Func<. I've tried one of my book (C# 2008/Deitel&Deitel) and also MSDN but I'm not getting it yet. • What can be inside a class that derive from OmniAuth?

  I have the following class class Identity < OmniAuth:: Identity:: Models:: ActiveRecord attr_accessible :email, :name, :password_digest, :password, :password_confirmation end I wonder if the above properties are the only ones allowed for a class that derive from a OmniAuth. I wish I could add some more like FirstName, LastName, age, gender, and so on. Do I need to create an other model for those properties or can I just add them to the Identity model? First of all, I've created an array of all the properties inside my class called myPropertyInfo. Type MyType = (typeOf(MyClass)); PropertyInfo[] myPropertyInfo = myType.GetProperties( BindingFlags.Public|BindingFlags.Instance); the myPropertyInfo array allows me to access each property details (Name, propertyType, etc) through the index*[i]* Now, how can I use the above information to control how linq querries my DB? Here's a sample of a querry I'd like to exploit. var myVar = from tp in db.MyClass select tp.{expression}; Expression using myPropertyInfo[i] to choose which property(column) to querry. In fact, when ViewData["KeyForMyObject"] contains a string, int, or bool, myAction is able to retrieve the value. But, when it comes to objects, such as List, and dictionary, nothing happens. When I debug to check the local values, I see null for Type myObject in the MyMethod. • Can I use breakpoints (as while debugging) while 'unit testing' ?

  Hello, I'm walking through the FrontStore series tutorial on TDD in MVC (Part 3 by Rob Conery/ASP.NET). The test I'm concerned with is the CatalogRepository_Each_Category_Contains_5_Products(). Until I get to that test, everything was working fine. Now, I've gone through every line that makes this test (including the test itself, the TestCatalogRepository, ...). I've also compared my code to that of Rob, but the test keeps failing. I also checked the source code from CodePlex, that test was not there. Now, I wonder if I can put a break point somewhere to check the local values as the test is being executed? If not, something similar? Thanks for helping.

  Hello, In ASP.NET MVC, we don't have controls which can do stuffs such as autocompletion (we don't have controls at all from Visual Studio like in web forms). But, Is it possible to still get 'Auto-completion' with a text box in ASP.NET MVC (like with the textbox found on the Google's Home page)? If this is the case, what's the best way to do so?   Hello, This is what I want: Let's say I have a textbox and a button on a page. when I click the button, I get a page in a new browser window where I can make some choices. when I click OK on that new window, it disappears and my choice appears in the textbox located in the first window. How do I do that in ASP.NET MVC? I know that what I'm trying to do can be easily obtained through JavaScript. However, I'd like to apply the unobtrusive principle. • Why Controller doesn't recognize a public method which (yet) appears in the intellisense ?

  Hello, I'm using an helper class that I called CreateEditOrganizationService where I put all the helper methods. In my controller, I've createService as object of that class. So far, I've got 5 methods. Now, I've just defined a 6th method called Set_TypeOrganization. I'm getting the Set_TypeOrganization in the intellisense, but after I've chose it, I get the following error: *CreateEditOrganizationService does not contain a definition for Set_TypeOrganization are you missing a directive or a reference?* public List<TypeOrganization> Set_TypeOrganization(string choice) { //Definition goes here... } and in my Controller CreateEditOrganizationService createService = new CreateEditOrganizationService(); //... ViewData["TypeOrganizations"] = createService.Set_TypeOrganization(choice); Unfortunately, VS shows me the error? Yet, the method appear in the intellisense when I type a dot after the createService object. Thannks for helping

  Hello, I've got this public static class MyClassHelper { DataContex db = new DataContext(); public static Type MyMethod() { //Do Something with db // such as db.myTable } } I'm getting the following error: "An object reference is required for the non-static field, method or property..." Is there anyway to get around this? How about this. I've an object that contains only integers, which is fine for all the internal functionings as it allows me to link tables. But occasionaly, I need to display some information to the user. That's why, I'd like to create a static method so it would read the integer, look up in the DB, and display a name instead of a number. I want it to be a static method so that I can use it in my View template. Thanks for helping

• How does SET works with property in C#?

  Hello, I'd like to know how set works in a property when it does more than just setting the value of a private member variable. Let's say I've a private member in my class (private int myInt). For instance, I can make sure that the the value returned is not negative get { if(myInt < 0) myInt = 0; return myInt; } With SET, all I can do is affecting the private variable like so set { myInt = value; } I didn't see in any book how I can do more than that. How about if I wan't to do some operation before affecting the value to myInt? Let's say: If the value is negative, affect 0 to myInt. set { //Check if the value is non-negative, otherwise affect the 0 to myInt } Thanks for helping
