  • Python | How to send a JSON response with name assign to it

    - by MMRUser
How can I return an response (lets say an array) to the client with a name assign to it form a python script. echo '{"jsonValidateReturn":'.json_encode($arrayToJs).'}'; in this scenario it returns an array with the name(jsonValidateReturn) assign to it also this can be accessed by jsonValidateReturn[1],so I want to do the same using a python script. I tried it once but it didn't go well array_to_js = [vld_id, vld_error, False] array_to_js[2] = False jsonValidateReturn = simplejson.dumps(array_to_js) return HttpResponse(jsonValidateReturn, mimetype='application/json') Thanks.

  • JSON | Django passing python list

    - by MMRUser
Hi, I'm trying to send a Python list in to client side (encoded as JSON), this is the code snippet which I have written: array_to_js = [vld_id, vld_error, False] array_to_js[2] = True jsonValidateReturn = simplejson.dumps(array_to_js) return HttpResponse(jsonValidateReturn, mimetype='application/json') So my question is how to access it form client side, can I access it like this: jsonValidateReturn[0] or how I assign a name to the returned JSON array in order to access it?

  • jstree dynamic JSON data from django

    - by danspants
I'm trying to set up jsTree to dynamically accept JSON data from django. This is the test data i have django returning to jstree: result=[{ "data" : "A node", "children" : [ { "data" : "Only child", "state" : "closed" } ], "state" : "open" },"Ajax node"] response=HttpResponse(content=result,mimetype="application/json") this is the jstree code I'm using: jQuery("#demo1").jstree({ "json_data" : { "ajax" : { "url" : "/dirlist", "data" : function (n) { return { id : n.attr ? n.attr("id") : 0 }; }, error: function(e){alert(e);} } }, "plugins" : [ "themes","json_data"] }); All I get is the ajax loading symbol, the ajax error response is also triggered and it alerts "undefined". I've also tried simpleJson encoding in django but with the same result. If I change the url so that it is receiving a JSON file with identical data, it works as expected. Any ideas on what the issue might be?

  • Get the currently saved object in a view in Django

    - by mridang
Hi, I has a Django view which is accessed through an AJAX call. It's a pretty simple one — all it does is simply pass the request to a form object and save the data. Here's a snippet from my view: form = AddSiteForm(request.user, request.POST) if form.is_valid(): obj = form.save(commit=False) obj.user = request.user obj.save() data['status'] = 'success' data['html'] = render_to_string('site.html', locals(), context_instance=RequestContext(request)) return HttpResponse(simplejson.dumps(data), mimetype='application/json') How do I get the currently saved object (including the internally generated id column) and pass it to the template? Any help guys? Mridang

  • jquery json null when using localhost

  • Django : json serialize a queryset which uses defer() or only()

    - by PlanetUnknown
Now I've been using json serializer and it works great. I had to modify my queries where I started using the only() & defer() filters, like so - retObj = OBJModel.objects.defer("create_dt").filter(loged_in_dt__gte=dtStart) After I've done the above, suddenly the json serializer is returning empty fields - {"pk": 19047, "model": "OBJModel_deferred_create_dt", "fields": {}} If I remove the defer(), the serializer gives all the data correctly. import json from django.utils import simplejson from django.core import serializers json_serializer = serializers.get_serializer("json")() retObj = OBJModel.objects.defer("create_dt").filter(loged_in_dt__gte=dtStart) json_serializer.serialize(retObj, ensure_ascii=False) I've scratched my head on this for a while now. Any insight would be great. NOTE : I am using django 1.1

  • serializing JSON files with newlines in Python

    - by user248237
I am using json and jsonpickle sometimes to serialize objects to files, using the following function: def json_serialize(obj, filename, use_jsonpickle=True): f = open(filename, 'w') if use_jsonpickle: import jsonpickle json_obj = jsonpickle.encode(obj) f.write(json_obj) else: simplejson.dump(obj, f) f.close() The problem is that if I serialize a dictionary for example, using "json_serialize(mydict, myfilename)" then the entire serialization gets put on one line. This means that I can't grep the file for entries to be inspected by hand, like I would a CSV file. Is there a way to make it so each element of an object (e.g. each entry in a dict, or each element in a list) is placed on a separate line in the JSON output file? thanks.

  • Pylons and Facebook

    - by Nayan Jain
The following is my oauth template top.location.href='https://graph.facebook.com/oauth/authorize?client_id=${config['facebook.appid']}&redirect_uri=${config['facebook.callbackurl']}&display=page&scope=publish_stream'; Click here to authorize this application When I hit the page I am prompted to login (desired), upon login I am redirected in a loop between a permissions page and an app page. My controller looks like: class RootController(BaseController): def __before__(self): tmpl_context.user = None if request.params.has_key('session'): access_token = simplejson.loads(request.params['session'])['access_token'] graph = facebook.GraphAPI(access_token) tmpl_context.user = graph.get_object("me") def index(self): if not tmpl_context.user: return render('/oauth_redirect.mako') return render('/index.mako') I'm guessing my settings are off somewhere, probably with the callback. Not to sure if it is an issue with my code or the python sdk for facebook.

  • PUT parameters not working in python / google app engine

    - by magegu
hi, i'm working on a simple RESTful webservice with python with the webapp framework on the google app engine. Basically i'm sending all request via AJAX/jquery - for POST it works like a charm, but when I'm sending data with PUT, the parameters are empty / not processed. this is my PUT: $.ajax({ type: "PUT", url: "/boxes", data: { name: this.name, archived: this.archived }, success: function(msg){ } }); firebug saids i'm putting: Parameter application/x-www-form-urlencoded archived false name 123112323asdasd but using this python code: from google.appengine.ext import webapp from google.appengine.ext.webapp import util, template from google.appengine.ext import db from google.appengine.api.datastore_types import * from django.utils import simplejson as json import cgi import datetime class BoxHandler(webapp.RequestHandler): def post(self): #working print "test" self.response.out.write(self.request.get("name")) def put(self): print "test" #not working self.response.out.write(self.request.get("name")) will just return test Status: 200 OK Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Cache-Control: no-cache Expires: Fri, 01 Jan 1990 00:00:00 GMT Content-Length: 0 so .. hm, is there anything i'm missing here? cheers, Martin

  • Check result of AX_PYTHON_MODULE in configure.ac

    - by tmatth
In using the m4_ax_python_module.m4 macro in configure.ac (AX_PYTHON_MODULE), one can know at configure time if a given module is installed. It takes two arguments, the module name, and second argument which if not empty, will lead to an exit, useful when the module is a must-have. In the case where you don't want a fatal exit, how do you test in configure.ac which modules were found or not? They output "yes" or "no" when configure is run, but that's all I've found so far. Basically If I have these lines in configure.ac: AX_PYTHON_MODULE(json,[]) AX_PYTHON_MODULE(simplejson,[]) How do I test which of the two modules were found? See http://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf-archive/ax_python_module.html#ax_python_module for documentation about this macro.

  • Python: why does str() on some text from a UTF-8 file give a UnicodeDecodeError?

    - by AP257
I'm processing a UTF-8 file in Python, and have used simplejson to load it into a dictionary. However, I'm getting a UnicodeDecodeError when I try to turn one of the dictionary values into a string: f = open('my_json.json', 'r') master_dictionary = json.load(f) #some json wrangling, then it fails on this line... mysql_string += " ('" + str(v_dict['code']) Traceback (most recent call last): File "my_file.py", line 25, in <module> str(v_dict['code']) + "'), " UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xf4' in position 35: ordinal not in range(128) Why is Python even using ASCII? I thought it used UTF-8 by default, and this is a UTF-8 file. What is the problem?

  • Convert Google results object (pure js) to Python object

    - by colwilson
So I'm trying to use Google Map suggest API to request place name suggestions. Unfortunately I can't find the docs for this bit. Here is an example URI: http://maps.google.com/maps/suggest?q=lon&cp=3&ll=55.0,-3.5&spn=11.9,1.2&hl=en&gl=uk&v=2 which returns: {suggestion:[{query:"London",... I want to use this in python (2.5). Now in proper JSON there would have been quotations around the keys like so: {"suggestion":[{"query":"London",... and I could have used simplejson or something, but as it is I'm a bit stuck. There are two possible solutions here; either I can get to the API code and find an option to return proper JSON, or I do that in python. Any ideas please.

  • Python how to handle # in a dictionary

    - by Jack
I've got some json from last.fm's api which I've serialised into a dictionary using simplejson. A quick example of the basic structure is below. { "artist": "similar": { "artist": { "name": "Blah", "image": {"#text":"URLHERE","size": "small"} "image": {"#text":"URLHERE","size": "medium"} "image": {"#text":"URLHERE","size": "large"} } } } Any ideas how I can access the image urls of various different sizes. My attempts at accessing the #text variable don't seem to work because python doesn't appear to like #'s in the names. And any ideas how I can easily get the url for the depending on the size? Thanks, Jack

  • django/python: is one view that handles two sibling models a good idea?

    - by clime
    I am using django multi-table inheritance: Video and Image are models derived from Media. I have implemented two views: video_list and image_list, which are just proxies to media_list. media_list returns images or videos (based on input parameter model) for a certain object, which can be of type Event, Member, or Crag. The view alters its behaviour based on input parameter action (better name would be mode), which can be of value "edit" or "view". The problem is that I need to ask whether the input parameter model contains Video or Image in media_list so that I can do the right thing. Similar condition is also in helper method media_edit_list that is called from the view. I don't particularly like it but the only alternative I can think of is to have separate (but almost the same) logic for video_list and image_list and then probably also separate helper methods for videos and images: video_edit_list, image_edit_list, video_view_list, image_view_list. So four functions instead of just two. That I like even less because the video functions would be very similar to the respective image functions. What do you recommend? Here is extract of relevant parts: http://pastebin.com/07t4bdza. I'll also paste the code here: #urls url(r'^media/images/(?P<rel_model_tag>(event|member|crag))/(?P<rel_object_id>\d+)/(?P<action>(view|edit))/$', views.image_list, name='image-list') url(r'^media/videos/(?P<rel_model_tag>(event|member|crag))/(?P<rel_object_id>\d+)/(?P<action>(view|edit))/$', views.video_list, name='video-list') #views def image_list(request, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, mode): return media_list(request, Image, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, mode) def video_list(request, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, mode): return media_list(request, Video, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, mode) def media_list(request, model, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, mode): rel_model = tag_to_model(rel_model_tag) rel_object = get_object_or_404(rel_model, pk=rel_object_id) if model == Image: star_media = rel_object.star_image else: star_media = rel_object.star_video filter_params = {} if rel_model == Event: filter_params['event'] = rel_object_id elif rel_model == Member: filter_params['members'] = rel_object_id elif rel_model == Crag: filter_params['crag'] = rel_object_id media_list = model.objects.filter(~Q(id=star_media.id)).filter(**filter_params).order_by('date_added').all() context = { 'media_list': media_list, 'star_media': star_media, } if mode == 'edit': return media_edit_list(request, model, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, context) return media_view_list(request, model, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, context) def media_view_list(request, model, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, context): if request.is_ajax(): context['base_template'] = 'boxes/base-lite.html' return render(request, 'media/list-items.html', context) def media_edit_list(request, model, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, context): if model == Image: get_media_edit_record = get_image_edit_record else: get_media_edit_record = get_video_edit_record media_list = [get_media_edit_record(media, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id) for media in context['media_list']] if context['star_media']: star_media = get_media_edit_record(context['star_media'], rel_model_tag, rel_object_id) else: star_media = None json = simplejson.dumps({ 'star_media': star_media, 'media_list': media_list, }) return HttpResponse(json, content_type=json_response_mimetype(request)) def get_image_edit_record(image, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id): record = { 'url': image.image.url, 'name': image.title or image.filename, 'type': mimetypes.guess_type(image.image.path)[0] or 'image/png', 'thumbnailUrl': image.thumbnail_2.url, 'size': image.image.size, 'id': image.id, 'media_id': image.media_ptr.id, 'starUrl':reverse('image-star', kwargs={'image_id': image.id, 'rel_model_tag': rel_model_tag, 'rel_object_id': rel_object_id}), } return record def get_video_edit_record(video, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id): record = { 'url': video.embed_url, 'name': video.title or video.url, 'type': None, 'thumbnailUrl': video.thumbnail_2.url, 'size': None, 'id': video.id, 'media_id': video.media_ptr.id, 'starUrl': reverse('video-star', kwargs={'video_id': video.id, 'rel_model_tag': rel_model_tag, 'rel_object_id': rel_object_id}), } return record #   • Looping through python-dictionary-turned-into-json in javascript.

    - by Phil
In writing a django app, I am returning the following json on a jQuery ajax call: { "is_owner": "T", "author": "me", "overall": "the surfing lifestyle", "score": "1", "meanings": { "0": "something", "1": "something else", "3": "yet something else", "23": "something random" }, "user vote": "1" } In the javascript/jQuery callback function, I can access the is_owner, author, etc. easily enough. is_owner = json.is_owner; author = json.author; But for meanings, the numbers are different depending on what it pulls from the server. On the server side for the meanings part, right now what I'm doing is constructing a dictionary like so: meanings_dict = {} meanings = requested_tayke.meanings.all() for meaning in meanings: meanings_dict[meaning.location] = meaning.text and then returning a json I create like this: test_json = simplejson.dumps({'is_owner':is_owner, 'overall':overall, 'score':str(score),'user vote':str(user_vote), 'author': author, 'meanings' : meanings_dict }) print test_json return HttpResponse(test_json) My question is this: how do I access the 'meanings' data from my json in javascript? I need to loop through all of it. Maybe I need to be loading it into json differently. I have full control so of both the server and client side so I'm willing to change either to make it work. Also worth noting: I'm not using Django's serialize functionality. I couldn't make it work with my situation.

  • Invalidating Memcached Keys on save() in Django

    - by Zack
I've got a view in Django that uses memcached to cache data for the more highly trafficked views that rely on a relatively static set of data. The key word is relatively: I need invalidate the memcached key for that particular URL's data when it's changed in the database. To be as clear as possible, here's the meat an' potatoes of the view (Person is a model, cache is django.core.cache.cache): def person_detail(request, slug): if request.is_ajax(): cache_key = "%s_ABOUT_%s" % settings.SITE_PREFIX, slug # Check the cache to see if we've already got this result made. json_dict = cache.get(cache_key) # Was it a cache hit? if json_dict is None: # That's a negative Ghost Rider person = get_object_or_404(Person, display = True, slug = slug) json_dict = { 'name' : person.name, 'bio' : person.bio_html, 'image' : person.image.extra_thumbnails['large'].absolute_url, } cache.set(cache_key) # json_dict will now exist, whether it's from the cache or not response = HttpResponse() response['Content-Type'] = 'text/javascript' response.write(simpljson.dumps(json_dict)) # Make sure it's all properly formatted for JS by using simplejson return response else: # This is where the fully templated response is generated What I want to do is get at that cache_key variable in it's "unformatted" form, but I'm not sure how to do this--if it can be done at all. Just in case there's already something to do this, here's what I want to do with it (this is from the Person model's hypothetical save method) def save(self): # If this is an update, the key will be cached, otherwise it won't, let's see if we can't find me try: old_self = Person.objects.get(pk=self.id) cache_key = # Voodoo magic to get that variable old_key = cache_key.format(settings.SITE_PREFIX, old_self.slug) # Generate the key currently cached cache.delete(old_key) # Hit it with both barrels of rock salt # Turns out this doesn't already exist, let's make that first request even faster by making this cache right now except DoesNotExist: # I haven't gotten to this yet. super(Person, self).save() I'm thinking about making a view class for this sorta stuff, and having functions in it like remove_cache or generate_cache since I do this sorta stuff a lot. Would that be a better idea? If so, how would I call the views in the URLconf if they're in a class?

  • Fast JSON serialization (and comparison with Pickle) for cluster computing in Python?

    - by user248237
I have a set of data points, each described by a dictionary. The processing of each data point is independent and I submit each one as a separate job to a cluster. Each data point has a unique name, and my cluster submission wrapper simply calls a script that takes a data point's name and a file describing all the data points. That script then accesses the data point from the file and performs the computation. Since each job has to load the set of all points only to retrieve the point to be run, I wanted to optimize this step by serializing the file describing the set of points into an easily retrievable format. I tried using JSONpickle, using the following method, to serialize a dictionary describing all the data points to file: def json_serialize(obj, filename, use_jsonpickle=True): f = open(filename, 'w') if use_jsonpickle: import jsonpickle json_obj = jsonpickle.encode(obj) f.write(json_obj) else: simplejson.dump(obj, f, indent=1) f.close() The dictionary contains very simple objects (lists, strings, floats, etc.) and has a total of 54,000 keys. The json file is ~20 Megabytes in size. It takes ~20 seconds to load this file into memory, which seems very slow to me. I switched to using pickle with the same exact object, and found that it generates a file that's about 7.8 megabytes in size, and can be loaded in ~1-2 seconds. This is a significant improvement, but it still seems like loading of a small object (less than 100,000 entries) should be faster. Aside from that, pickle is not human readable, which was the big advantage of JSON for me. Is there a way to use JSON to get similar or better speed ups? If not, do you have other ideas on structuring this? (Is the right solution to simply "slice" the file describing each event into a separate file and pass that on to the script that runs a data point in a cluster job? It seems like that could lead to a proliferation of files). thanks.

  • Jquery Autocomplete plugin with Django (Trey Piepmeier solution)

    - by Sally
    So, I'm basing my code on Trey's solution on: http://solutions.treypiepmeier.com/2009/12/10/using-jquery-autocomplete-with-django/ The script is: <script> $(function() { $('#id_members').autocomplete('{{ object.get_absolute_url }}members/lookup', { dataType: 'json', width: 200, parse: function(data) { return $.map(data, function(row) { return { data:row, value:row[1], result:row[0] }; }); } }).result( function(e, data, value) { $("#id_members_pk").val(value); } ); } ); </script> The views.py: def members_lookup(request, pid): results = [] if request.method == "GET": if request.GET.has_key(u'q'): value = request.GET[u'q'] # Ignore queries shorter than length 1 if len(value) > 2: model_results = Member.objects.filter( Q(user__first_name__icontains=value) | Q(user__last_name__icontains=value) ) results = [ (x.user.get_full_name(), x.id) for x in model_results ] json = simplejson.dumps(results) print json return HttpResponse(json, mimetype='application/json') The problem is: It stops refining the search results after the initial lookup. For example: If I set len(value) 2, after I type the 3rd character it will give me a list of suggestions. But if I keep on typing the 4th or 5th character, the list of suggestions doesn't change. Any suggestions on why this is?
