  After running chkdsk C: /F /R and finding out that my hard disk has 24 KB in bad sectors (log is posted below), I decided to run Windows 7's System File Checker utility (sfc /scannow). SFC showed the ff. message after I ran it: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log." Since the CBS.log file is too large, I ran findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt" (as per Microsoft's KB 928228 article) to only get the log text pertaining to the corrupt files. (log is also posted below) How do I troubleshoot and repair the corrupted files mentioned by sfc /scannow?   Hi all! I am attempting to register a basic COM dll on a Windows Server 2008 standard box. I run regsvr32 capicom.dll and it reports DllRegisterServer in capicom.dll succeeded. This is the same process we've used for years on Windows Server 2003. Sadly, when I attempt to create the object via a very very basic Microsoft vbscript example Set oStore = CreateObject("CAPICOM.Store") it throws a "ActiveX component can't create object" error. Thinking maybe it was a problem with this dll, I tried a few other DLLs we use with the same result. I tried using the regsvr32 in system, system32, and syswow64 all with the same result. I don't know too much about the differences between each of those, but figured it was worth a shot. The dll is being stored on the d:\ and seems to have correct permissions (though that'd be a different error altogether). Thanks to any help or thoughts you might have!

Error: ODBC System DSN Warning You are logged on with non-Administrative privileges. System DSNs could not be created or modified. Failed Troubleshooting so far: Enabled local Administrator account logged in under this account. Navigated to C:\Windows\System32\ right clicked odbcad32.exe Run as Administrator Notes: I am an Administrator on this machine. The 32-bit version runs fine if I open C:\Windows\SysWoW64\odbcad32.exe However, I need the data source to be 64-bit. I am not experiencing this problem on any of my other 64-bit machines.   I found out about ForceBindIP and I really love it, so much that I am using it regularly enough to where spamming the same command prompt over and over again is getting painful. Here's ForceBindIP and what it does: http://www.r1ch.net/stuff/forcebindip/ I'm on a 64-bit of Windows 7 Home Premium. What I want to do is add a right-click context menu item so that when I browse items in Windows Explorer, or on my desktop, I can automate a ForceBindIP command (through the prompt). I am permanently connected to two networks: one over ethernet, and one over wireless. My ethernet network takes priority. What I want to do is add a "Run through wireless network" context menu item, that will send the item through this command: ForceBindIP {5F657824-9E3B-46E5-C21E-F52585R6457E} "[path to right-clicked file here]" It will need to run that command in C:\Windows\SysWOW64. I've no experience at all playing with the Windows registry or writing batch files, anything of that sort. I was wondering if anyone here would be kind enough to assist me?

  Previous information concerning my issue can be found here: Virus...? Tons of people talking. Not sure where else to ask. I heard the loud sounds and whatnot from one of the ads but nothing was harmed and other than having the life scared out of me nothing was immediately affected. Literally nothing has changed. I really don't know what to do. My PC seems fine and from what Malwarebytes and Spybot tells me none of my files have been infected with anything. • How to add command line arguments to command line arguments in Windows shortcut?

  I know I can add a command line argument/option to a shortcut this way; for example: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" www.a.com So IE will connect to a.com when it starts up. What I would like to do is to get IE connecting to a.com when I call it through another program like the following: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ForceBindIP.exe 192.168.1.151 "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" www.a.com This does not work. IE starts up but doesn't go to a.com. It seems like the argument is either ignored or is understood as an argument of ForceBindIP instead (I'm not sure). What I am trying to do is to create 2 IE shortcuts such each of them binds one IE window to one NIC and one particular website. So adding the www.a.com etc in its startup list won't help. OS is Windows 8. Apologize if this has been asked and answered before. Please suggest keywords for searching if that's the case.

• Using 64 bit wuauclt from 32 bit command prompt

  I have a script that for legacy reasons needs to run inside a 32 bit command shell. This script also includes references to certain core windows binaries - most notably wuauclt but others as well - which are not accessible by default within the 32 bit environment. This script is being run in several locations including many windows 7 and server 2008 r2 boxes. I'm aware of the possibility to copy files from the system32 to syswow64 in order to get around this. Is there any better method - something along the lines of adding an entry to the path variable - which will allow me to fall back to these 64 bit binaries from within a 32 bit script?

• .VBS scripts have stopped running... No idea why!

  We have two .vbs scripts that are run by our Task Scheduler that have suddenly stopped working for no reason we can fathom. We haven't significantly altered our system configuration in the last 24 hours, and the scripts have run without a hitch for months. According to the Task Scheduler the scripts just keep running and never stop, which is never the case. I stopped all running versions through the Scheduler and manually attempted to run one of the .vbs scripts. I got the following error message: Line: 15 Error: The system cannot locate the resource specified. Code: 800C0005 Source: msxml3.dll Line 15 (or 16 to be more accurate - line 15 itself is blank, but so is line 1) is: xml.Send Would could have suddenly caused this? Looking in system32\ and sysWOW64\ shows that msxml3.dll exists. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks a lot!

• Using unsigned drivers in Windows 8

  I just migrated from Windows 7 x64 to 8, but I can't get my VPN software to run anymore : the SafeNet IKE service (installed by SafeNet SoftRemoteLT GA, used by my VPN provider) cannot start anymore. I found that by default unsigned drivers are disabled on Win8, and that is what is blocking the driver. The System event log tells me that the driver (apparently, C:\WINDOWS\SysWow64\Drivers\IPSECDRV.sys ) was blocked when I try to manually start the service (SafeNet IKE Service). I get the same messages for another driver, crypto.sys found in the same folder. I tried using bcdedit to enable unsigned drivers : bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS bcdedit /set testsigning ON After reboot, same error. I tried by booting into Win 8's test mode, same issue. Applying the code signing policy (Enabled, Ignore) does not help either. Running gpresult does show that the policy is applied. Any help welcome.

• 32bit ODBC Postgres driver on Windows 2008 R2 x64

  I'm trying to install the Postgres ODBC 32bit driver on a Windows 2008 R2 64bit machine. After installing it, with no errors, I go to the ODBC panel, the 32bit version under the /syswow64 folder and try to add the driver, select the Postgres driver from the list but I get an error 126, saying he can't find the driver at the specified path. The problem is that the path he shows me, is the exact path the driver is in, I double checked on the registery (on the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ location) and it's fine there too. A couple more people on technet have the same issue too. Did anyone ever run into this? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. edit: the driver works fine on my win7 x64 test machine, this behaviour only happens on the server.

  I am attempting to standardize our PowerShell deployment and usage across all servers, which involves uninstalling PS1.0/installing PS2.0 on Server 2003 machines. In searching for KB926139 through CMD and Control Panel Add/Remove Programs, it is nowhere to be found. We have KB926141 installed on these servers as the Language Pack update, but no initial Install Update. PowerShell 1.0 is installed on the server and can be found at the default locations (%windir%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\V1.0, %windir%\Syswow64\WindowsPowerShell\V1.0). I would like to avoid deleting the Registry Entry in this situation since it should be pretty simple, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  The sysprep.exe file is simply missing on my Windows 7 64bit machine. I tried to find it on another computer, but it wasn't found there either. I can't understand it, because on a lot of forums and even in the official articles there are a lot of references to this tool. I've checked system, system32, sysWOW64 folders, and even made a full search with Total Commander. I only found a sysprep folder in the system32 folder, but inside was only an en-US subfolder, which was empty. Then I thought I will give my Windows PE bootdisk a try, which I've created a while ago. No result, only the same empty en-US folder is present there as well. Please if anyone knows what's happening, point me to the right direction. I need to clone my system and I'm stuck right at the first step...

• OpenGL doesn't draw (3.3+) [on hold]

  Brief: I've been following this tutorial about OpenGL for 2 days, and I still can't have a triangle drawn, so I'm asking for help here. The tutorial is turned to OpenGL version 3.3 programing, using vertex arrays, buffers, etc. The libraries are: GLFW3 and GLEW, and I setted them by myself. The screen keeps black all the time. Full code: link here (It's just like a Hello World opengl program) Further Details: I get no errors at all. I downloaded a software to test my video card, and it supports OpenGL 4.1+ Standard OpenGL code for drawing (from earlier version) such as this one works normally. I'm using Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0 I presume all the OpenGL implementation was dune right: I added Additional Dependences to the linker as glew32.lib, opengl32.lib, glfw3.lib. The glew.dll was placed at SysWOW64 - because I'm running window 64bits, and glew is 32. Notes: I've been working hard to find out what this is, but I can't find. I would appreciate if anyone could test this code for me, so I can know if I implemented something wrong, and that its not my code.
