  • Cisco T1 Routing Help

    - by Joseph
    Thanks to someone on this site I was able to get the Serial0/0 interface up. I now have: DCD=up DSR=up DTR=up RTS=up CTS=up My next challenge seems to be in the routing and/or PC ip setup. This are the pertinent details from L3: WAN Network: 6.59.186.60/30 Level3 Side: 6.59.186.61 Customer Side: 6.59.186.62 Cust. LAN IPs: 6.59.192.224/27 What would be the IOS commands to setup this route correctly? Am I correct that I would the choose an IP like 6.59.192.224, subnet 255.0.0.0, gateway 6.59.186.62? Thanks

  • Generic Singleton Fasade design pattern

    - by Paul
    Hi I try write singleton fasede pattern with generics. I have one problem, how can I call method from generic variable. Something like this: T1 t1 = new T1(); //call method from t1 t1.Method(); In method SingletonFasadeMethod I have compile error: Error 1 'T1' does not contain a definition for 'Method' and no extension method 'Method' accepting a first argument of type 'T1' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Any advace? Thank, I am beginner in C#. All code is here: namespace GenericSingletonFasade { public interface IMyInterface { string Method(); } internal class ClassA : IMyInterface { public string Method() { return " Calling MethodA "; } } internal class ClassB : IMyInterface { public string Method() { return " Calling MethodB "; } } internal class ClassC : IMyInterface { public string Method() { return "Calling MethodC"; } } internal class ClassD : IMyInterface { public string Method() { return "Calling MethodD"; } } public class SingletonFasade<T1,T2,T3> where T1 : class,new() where T2 : class,new() where T3 : class,new() { private static T1 t1; private static T2 t2; private static T3 t3; private SingletonFasade() { t1 = new T1(); t2 = new T2(); t3 = new T3(); } class SingletonCreator { static SingletonCreator() { } internal static readonly SingletonFasade<T1,T2,T3> uniqueInstace = new SingletonFasade<T1,T2,T3>(); } public static SingletonFasade<T1,T2,T3> UniqueInstace { get { return SingletonCreator.uniqueInstace; } } public string SingletonFasadeMethod() { //Problem is here return t1.Method() + t2.Method() + t3.Method(); } } }

  • Oracle Query Optimization: Why is My Second Query Faster?

    - by Patrick Cuff
    I was having some performance issues with an Oracle query, so I downloaded a trial of the Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle, which made some changes that dramatically improved the query's performance. I'm not exactly sure why the recommended query had such an improvement; can anyone provide an explanation? Before: SELECT t1.version_id, t1.id, t2.field1, t3.person_id, t2.id FROM table1 t1, table2 t2, table3 t3 WHERE t1.id = t2.id AND t1.version_id = t2.version_id AND t2.id = 123 AND t1.version_id = t3.version_id AND t1.VERSION_NAME <> 'AA' order by t1.id Plan Cost: 831 Elapsed Time: 00:00:21.40 Number of Records: 40,717 After: SELECT /*+ USE_NL_WITH_INDEX(t1) */ t1.version_id, t1.id, t2.field1, t3.person_id, t2.id FROM table2 t2, table3 t3, table1 t1 WHERE t1.id = t2.id + 0 AND t1.version_id = t2.version_id + 0 AND t2.id = 123 AND t1.version_id = t3.version_id + 0 AND t1.VERSION_NAME || '' <> 'AA' AND t3.version_id = t2.version_id + 0 order by t1.id Plan Cost: 686 Elapsed Time: 00:00:00.95 Number of Records: 40,717 Questions: Why does re-arranging the order of the tables in the FROM clause help? Why does adding + 0 to the WHERE clause comparisons help? Why does || '' <> 'AA' in the WHERE clause VERSION_NAME comparison help? Is this a more efficient way of handling possible nulls on this column?

  • Why is TRest in Tuple<T1... TRest> not constrained?

    - by Anthony Pegram
    In a Tuple, if you have more than 7 items, you can provide an 8th item that is another tuple and define up to 7 items, and then another tuple as the 8th and on and on down the line. However, there is no constraint on the 8th item at compile time. For example, this is legal code for the compiler: var tuple = new Tuple<int, int, int, int, int, int, int, double> (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1d); Even though the intellisense documentation says that TRest must be a Tuple. You do not get any error when writing or building the code, it does not manifest until runtime in the form of an ArgumentException. You can roughly implement a Tuple in a few minutes, complete with a Tuple-constrained 8th item. I just wonder why it was left off the current implementation? Is it possibly a forward-compatibility issue where they could add more elements with a hypothetical C# 5? Short version of rough implementation interface IMyTuple { } class MyTuple<T1> : IMyTuple { public T1 Item1 { get; private set; } public MyTuple(T1 item1) { Item1 = item1; } } class MyTuple<T1, T2> : MyTuple<T1> { public T2 Item2 { get; private set; } public MyTuple(T1 item1, T2 item2) : base(item1) { Item2 = item2; } } class MyTuple<T1, T2, TRest> : MyTuple<T1, T2> where TRest : IMyTuple { public TRest Rest { get; private set; } public MyTuple(T1 item1, T2 item2, TRest rest) : base(item1, item2) { Rest = rest; } } ... var mytuple = new MyTuple<int, int, MyTuple<int>>(1, 1, new MyTuple<int>(1)); // legal var mytuple2 = new MyTuple<int, int, int>(1, 2, 3); // illegal

  • SQL : where vs. on in join

    - by Erwin
    Perhaps a dumb question, but consider these 2 tables : T1 Store Year 01 2009 02 2009 03 2009 01 2010 02 2010 03 2010 T2 Store 02 Why is this INNER JOIN giving me the results I want (filtering the [year] in the ON clause) : select t1.* from t1 inner join t2 on t1.store = t2.store and t1.[year] = '2009' Store Year 02 2009 And why the LEFT OUTER JOIN include records of year 2010 ? select t1.* from t1 left outer join t2 on t1.store = t2.store and t1.year = '2009' where t2.store is null 01 2009 03 2009 01 2010 02 2010 03 2010 And I have to write the [year] filter in the 'WHERE' clause : select t1.* from t1 left outer join t2 on t1.store = t2.store where t2.store is null and t1.year = '2009' 01 2009 03 2009 Like I said, perhaps a dumb question, but it's bugging me !

  • Need solutions in sharing a 3Mb/768Kbps DSL line to 60+ users and faster bandwidth

    - by elistp
    Two parts. Part 1: We currently have 2 DSL Lines with 3Mb/768Kbps speeds load balanced for 60+ users. Accessing the Internet is borderline unusable. The simple solution would be to get a faster DSL Line but the highest DSL package is 6Mb/768Kbps, has quite the price jump, and doesn't do anything to help with upload speeds. I'm looking for free or extremely low cost solutions (web cache, traffic shaping, bandwidth controls, etc) to help with making Internet access more bearable until the next funding year. Can anyone give any advice? Part 2: We're looking into a 4.5Mb bonded T1 in the next funding year which is of course significantly more expensive than 2 DSL lines. Are bonded T1s our only hope for faster speeds? Are there any better alternatives?

  • Ways to update a dependent table in the same MySQL transaction?

    - by codie
    I need to update two tables inside a single transaction. The individual queries look something like this: 1. INSERT INTO t1 (col1, col2) VALUES (val1, val2) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE col2 = val2; If the above query causes an insert then I need to run the following statement on the second table: 2. INSERT INTO t2 (col1, col2) VALUES (val1, val2) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE col2 = col2 + val2; otherwise, 3. UPDATE t2 SET col2 = col2 - old_val2 + val2 WHERE col1 = val1; -- old_val2 is the value of t1.col2 before it was updated Right now I run a SELECT on t1 first, to determine whether statement 1 will cause an insert or update on t1. Then I run statement 1 and either of 2 and 3 inside a transaction. What are the ways in which I can do all of these inside one transaction itself? The approach I was thinking of is the following: UPDATE t2, t1 set t2.col2 = t2.col2 - t1.col2 WHERE t1.col1 = t2.col2 and t1.col1 = val1; INSERT INTO t1 (col1, col2) VALUES (val1, val2) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE col2 = val2; INSERT INTO t2, t1 (t2.col1, t2.col2) VALUES (t1.col1, t1.col2) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE t2.col2 = t2.col2 + t1.col2 WHERE t1.col1 = t2.col2 and t1.col1 = val1; Unfortunately, there's no multi-table INSERT... ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE in MySQL 5.0. What else could I do?

  • Trouble with Action<T1, T2> and passing multiple parameters

    - by dotnetdev
    Hi, I have this code: s(x => x.Open()); s is a method which calls one parameter, which is perfectly fine, like so: public void s(Action<p1> action) {} Ignoring the naming conventions, if I make the method like the below: public void s(Action<p1, p2> action) {} How do I pass in more than one parameter? Out of interest, is there any way to use the params keyword with Action<? Also, I am using C# 4.0 so I would be interested to see how it can help me in an way. Thanks

  • Linq To Sql Concat() dropping fields in created TSQL

    This is strange. I am moving a stored proc to a service. The TSQL unions multiple selects. To replicate this I created multiple queries resulting in a common new concrete type. Then I issue a return result.ToString(); and the resulting SQL selects have varying numbers of columns specified thus causing an MSSQL Msg 205... using (var db = GetDb()) { var fundInv = from f in db.funds select new Investments { Company = f.company, FullName = f.fullname, Admin = f.admin, Fund = f.fund1, FundCode = f.fundcode, Source = STR_FUNDS, IsPortfolio = false, IsActive = f.active, Strategy = f.strategy, SubStrategy = f.substrategy, AltStrategy = f.altstrategy, AltSubStrategy = f.altsubstrategy, Region = f.region, AltRegion = f.altregion, UseAlternate = f.usealt, ClassesAllowed = f.classallowed }; var stocksInv = from s in db.stocks where !fundInv.Select(f => f.Company).Contains(s.vehcode) select new Investments { Company = s.company, FullName = s.issuer, Admin = STR_PRS, Fund = s.shortname, FundCode = s.vehcode, Source = STR_STOCK, IsPortfolio = false, IsActive = (s.inactive == null), Strategy = s.style, SubStrategy = s.substyle, AltStrategy = s.altstyle, AltSubStrategy = s.altsubsty, Region = s.geography, AltRegion = s.altgeo, UseAlternate = s.usealt, ClassesAllowed = STR_GENERIC }; var bondsInv = from oi in db.bonds where !fundInv.Select(f => f.Company).Contains(oi.vehcode) select new Investments { Company = string.Empty, FullName = oi.issue, Admin = STR_PRS1, Fund = oi.issue, FundCode = oi.vehcode, Source = STR_BONDS, IsPortfolio = false, IsActive = oi.closed, Strategy = STR_OTH, SubStrategy = STR_OTH, AltStrategy = STR_OTH, AltSubStrategy = STR_OTH, Region = STR_OTH, AltRegion = STR_OTH, UseAlternate = false, ClassesAllowed = STR_GENERIC }; return (fundInv.Concat(stocksInv).Concat(bondsInv)).ToList(); } The code above results in a complex select statement where each "table" above has different column count. (see SQL below) I've been trying a few things but no change yet. Ideas are welcome.   • How to select all parent objects into DataContext using single LINQ query ?

    - by too
    I am looking for an answer to a specific problem of fetching whole LINQ object hierarchy using single SELECT. At first I was trying to fill as much LINQ objects as possible using LoadOptions, but AFAIK this method allows only single table to be linked in one query using LoadWith. So I have invented a solution to forcibly set all parent objects of entity which of list is to be fetched, although there is a problem of multiple SELECTS going to database - a single query results in two SELECTS with the same parameters in the same LINQ context. For this question I have simplified this query to popular invoice example: public static class Extensions { public static IEnumerable<T> ForEach<T>(this IEnumerable<T> collection, Action<T> func) { foreach(var c in collection) { func(c); } return collection; } } public IEnumerable<Entry> GetResults(AppDataContext context, int CustomerId) { return ( from entry in context.Entries join invoice in context.Invoices on entry.EntryInvoiceId equals invoice.InvoiceId join period in context.Periods on invoice.InvoicePeriodId equals period.PeriodId // LEFT OUTER JOIN, store is not mandatory join store in context.Stores on entry.EntryStoreId equals store.StoreId into condStore from store in condStore.DefaultIfEmpty() where (invoice.InvoiceCustomerId = CustomerId) orderby entry.EntryPrice descending select new { Entry = entry, Invoice = invoice, Period = period, Store = store } ).ForEach(x => { x.Entry.Invoice = Invoice; x.Invoice.Period = Period; x.Entry.Store = Store; } ).Select(x => x.Entry); } When calling this function and traversing through result set, for example: var entries = GetResults(this.Context); int withoutStore = 0; foreach(var k in entries) { if(k.EntryStoreId == null) withoutStore++; } the resulting query to database looks like (single result is fetched): SELECT [t0].[EntryId], [t0].[EntryInvoiceId], [t0].[EntryStoreId], [t0].[EntryProductId], [t0].[EntryQuantity], [t0].[EntryPrice], [t1].[InvoiceId], [t1].[InvoiceCustomerId], [t1].[InvoiceDate], [t1].[InvoicePeriodId], [t2].[PeriodId], [t2].[PeriodName], [t2].[PeriodDateFrom], [t4].[StoreId], [t4].[StoreName] FROM [Entry] AS [t0] INNER JOIN [Invoice] AS [t1] ON [t0].[EntryInvoiceId] = [t1].[InvoiceId] INNER JOIN [Period] AS [t2] ON [t2].[PeriodId] = [t1].[InvoicePeriodId] LEFT OUTER JOIN ( SELECT 1 AS [test], [t3].[StoreId], [t3].[StoreName] FROM [Store] AS [t3] ) AS [t4] ON [t4].[StoreId] = ([t0].[EntryStoreId]) WHERE (([t1].[InvoiceCustomerId]) = @p0) ORDER BY [t0].[InvoicePrice] DESC -- @p0: Input Int (Size = 0; Prec = 0; Scale = 0) [186] -- Context: SqlProvider(Sql2008) Model: AttributedMetaModel Build: 3.5.30729.1 SELECT [t0].[EntryId], [t0].[EntryInvoiceId], [t0].[EntryStoreId], [t0].[EntryProductId], [t0].[EntryQuantity], [t0].[EntryPrice], [t1].[InvoiceId], [t1].[InvoiceCustomerId], [t1].[InvoiceDate], [t1].[InvoicePeriodId], [t2].[PeriodId], [t2].[PeriodName], [t2].[PeriodDateFrom], [t4].[StoreId], [t4].[StoreName] FROM [Entry] AS [t0] INNER JOIN [Invoice] AS [t1] ON [t0].[EntryInvoiceId] = [t1].[InvoiceId] INNER JOIN [Period] AS [t2] ON [t2].[PeriodId] = [t1].[InvoicePeriodId] LEFT OUTER JOIN ( SELECT 1 AS [test], [t3].[StoreId], [t3].[StoreName] FROM [Store] AS [t3] ) AS [t4] ON [t4].[StoreId] = ([t0].[EntryStoreId]) WHERE (([t1].[InvoiceCustomerId]) = @p0) ORDER BY [t0].[InvoicePrice] DESC -- @p0: Input Int (Size = 0; Prec = 0; Scale = 0) [186] -- Context: SqlProvider(Sql2008) Model: AttributedMetaModel Build: 3.5.30729.1 The question is why there are two queries and how can I fetch LINQ objects without such hacks?

  • Multi-table Update(MySQL)

    - by smokinguns
    Hey all, I have a question regarding multi-table update(MySQL). Consider table t1 and t2. The PKEY for t1 is 'tid' which is a foreign Key in t2. There is a field "qtyt2" in t2 which depends on a field called "qtyt1" in table t1. Consider the foll SQL statement: UPDATE t2,t1 SET t2.qtyt2=IF(( t2.qtyt2- t1.qtyt1 )<0,0,( t2.qtyt2- t1.qtyt1 ) ), t1.qtyt1 ="Some value.." where t2.tid="some value.." AND t2.tid=t1.tid In this example qtyt2 depends on qtyt1 for update and the latter itself is updated.Now the result should return 2 if two rows are updated. Is there a guarantee that the fields will be updated in the order in which they appear in the statement( first qtyt2 will be set and then qtyt1).Is it possible that qtyt1 will be set first and then qtyt2? Is the order of tables in the statement important (UPDATE t2, t1 or UPDATE t1,t2)? I found that if I wrote "UPDATE t1,t2" then only t1 would get updated, but on changing the statement to "UPDATE t2,t1" everything worked correctly.

  • Typesafe fire-and-forget asynchronous delegate invocation in C#

    - by LBushkin
    I recently found myself needing a typesafe "fire-and-forget" mechanism for running code asynchronously. Ideally, what I would want to do is something like: var myAction = (Action)(() => Console.WriteLine("yada yada")); myAction.FireAndForget(); // async invocation Unfortunately, the obvious choice of calling BeginInvoke() without a corresponding EndInvoke() does not work - it results in a slow resource leak (since the asyn state is held by the runtime and never released ... it's expecting an eventual call to EndInvoke(). I also can't run the code on the .NET thread pool because it may take a very long time to complete (it's advised to only run relatively short-lived code on the thread pool) - this makes it impossible to use the ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(). Initially, I only needed this behavior for methods whose signature matches Action, Action<...>, or Func<...>. So I put together a set of extension methods (see listing below) that let me do this without running into the resource leak. There are overloads for each version of Action/Func. Unfortunately, I now want to port this code to .NET 4 where the number of generic parameters on Action and Func have been increased substantially. Before I write a T4 script to generate these, I was also hoping to find a simpler more elegant way to do this. Any ideas are welcome. public static class AsyncExt { public static void FireAndForget( this Action action ) { action.BeginInvoke(OnActionCompleted, action); } public static void FireAndForget<T1>( this Action<T1> action, T1 arg1 ) { action.BeginInvoke(arg1, OnActionCompleted<T1>, action); } public static void FireAndForget<T1,T2>( this Action<T1,T2> action, T1 arg1, T2 arg2 ) { action.BeginInvoke(arg1, arg2, OnActionCompleted<T1, T2>, action); } public static void FireAndForget<TResult>(this Func<TResult> func, TResult arg1) { func.BeginInvoke(OnFuncCompleted<TResult>, func); } public static void FireAndForget<T1,TResult>(this Func<T1, TResult> action, T1 arg1) { action.BeginInvoke(arg1, OnFuncCompleted<T1,TResult>, action); } // more overloads of FireAndForget<..>() for Action<..> and Func<..> private static void OnActionCompleted( IAsyncResult result ) { var action = (Action)result.AsyncState; action.EndInvoke(result); } private static void OnActionCompleted<T1>( IAsyncResult result ) { var action = (Action<T1>)result.AsyncState; action.EndInvoke( result ); } private static void OnActionCompleted<T1,T2>(IAsyncResult result) { var action = (Action<T1,T2>)result.AsyncState; action.EndInvoke(result); } private static void OnFuncCompleted<TResult>( IAsyncResult result ) { var func = (Func<TResult>)result.AsyncState; func.EndInvoke( result ); } private static void OnFuncCompleted<T1,TResult>(IAsyncResult result) { var func = (Func<T1, TResult>)result.AsyncState; func.EndInvoke(result); } // more overloads of OnActionCompleted<> and OnFuncCompleted<> }

  • SQL SERVER – SSMS: Backup and Restore Events Report

    - by Pinal Dave
    A DBA wears multiple hats and in fact does more than what an eye can see. One of the core task of a DBA is to take backups. This looks so trivial that most developers shrug this off as the only activity a DBA might be doing. I have huge respect for DBA’s all around the world because even if they seem cool with all the scripting, automation, maintenance works round the clock to keep the business working almost 365 days 24×7, their worth is knowing that one day when the systems / HDD crashes and you have an important delivery to make. So these backup tasks / maintenance jobs that have been done come handy and are no more trivial as they might seem to be as considered by many. So the important question like: “When was the last backup taken?”, “How much time did the last backup take?”, “What type of backup was taken last?” etc are tricky questions and this report lands answers to the same in a jiffy. So the SSMS report, we are talking can be used to find backups and restore operation done for the selected database. Whenever we perform any backup or restore operation, the information is stored in the msdb database. This report can utilize that information and provide information about the size, time taken and also the file location for those operations. Here is how this report can be launched.   Once we launch this report, we can see 4 major sections shown as listed below. Average Time Taken For Backup Operations Successful Backup Operations Backup Operation Errors Successful Restore Operations Let us look at each section next. Average Time Taken For Backup Operations Information shown in “Average Time Taken For Backup Operations” section is taken from a backupset table in the msdb database. Here is the query and the expanded version of that particular section USE msdb; SELECT (ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY t1.TYPE))%2 AS l1 ,       1 AS l2 ,       1 AS l3 ,       t1.TYPE AS [type] ,       (AVG(DATEDIFF(ss,backup_start_date, backup_finish_date)))/60.0 AS AverageBackupDuration FROM backupset t1 INNER JOIN sys.databases t3 ON ( t1.database_name = t3.name) WHERE t3.name = N'AdventureWorks2014' GROUP BY t1.TYPE ORDER BY t1.TYPE On my small database the time taken for differential backup was less than a minute, hence the value of zero is displayed. This is an important piece of backup operation which might help you in planning maintenance windows. Successful Backup Operations Here is the expanded version of this section.   This information is derived from various backup tracking tables from msdb database.  Here is the simplified version of the query which can be used separately as well. SELECT * FROM sys.databases t1 INNER JOIN backupset t3 ON (t3.database_name = t1.name) LEFT OUTER JOIN backupmediaset t5 ON ( t3.media_set_id = t5.media_set_id) LEFT OUTER JOIN backupmediafamily t6 ON ( t6.media_set_id = t5.media_set_id) WHERE (t1.name = N'AdventureWorks2014') ORDER BY backup_start_date DESC,t3.backup_set_id,t6.physical_device_name; The report does some calculations to show the data in a more readable format. For example, the backup size is shown in KB, MB or GB. I have expanded first row by clicking on (+) on “Device type” column. That has shown me the path of the physical backup file. Personally looking at this section, the Backup Size, Device Type and Backup Name are critical and are worth a note. As mentioned in the previous section, this section also has the Duration embedded inside it. Backup Operation Errors This section of the report gets data from default trace. You might wonder how. One of the event which is tracked by default trace is “ErrorLog”. This means that whatever message is written to errorlog gets written to default trace file as well. Interestingly, whenever there is a backup failure, an error message is written to ERRORLOG and hence default trace. This section takes advantage of that and shows the information. We can read below message under this section, which confirms above logic. No backup operations errors occurred for (AdventureWorks2014) database in the recent past or default trace is not enabled. Successful Restore Operations This section may not be very useful in production server (do you perform a restore of database?) but might be useful in the development and log shipping secondary environment, where we might be interested to see restore operations for a particular database. Here is the expanded version of the section. To fill this section of the report, I have restored the same backups which were taken to populate earlier sections. Here is the simplified version of the query used to populate this output. USE msdb; SELECT * FROM restorehistory t1 LEFT OUTER JOIN restorefile t2 ON ( t1.restore_history_id = t2.restore_history_id) LEFT OUTER JOIN backupset t3 ON ( t1.backup_set_id = t3.backup_set_id) WHERE t1.destination_database_name = N'AdventureWorks2014' ORDER BY restore_date DESC,  t1.restore_history_id,t2.destination_phys_name Have you ever looked at the backup strategy of your key databases? Are they in sync and do we have scope for improvements? Then this is the report to analyze after a week or month of maintenance plans running in your database. Do chime in with what are the strategies you are using in your environments. • How to properly use references with variadic templates

    - by Hippicoder
    I have something like the following code: template<typename T1, typename T2, typename T3> void inc(T1& t1, T2& t2, T3& t3) { ++t1; ++t2; ++t3; } template<typename T1, typename T2> void inc(T1& t1, T2& t2) { ++t1; ++t2; } template<typename T1> void inc(T1& t1) { ++t1; } I'd like to reimplement it using the proposed variadic templates from the upcoming standard. However all the examples I've seen so far online seem to be printf like examples, the difference here seems to be the use of references. I've come up with the following: template<typename T> void inc(T&& t) { ++t; } template<typename T,typename ... Args> void inc(T&& t, Args&& ... args) { ++t inc(args...); } What I'd like to know is: Should I be using r-values instead of references? Possible hints or clues as to how to accomplish what I want correctly. What guarantees does the new proposed standard provide wrt the issue of the recursive function calls, is there some indication that the above variadic version will be as optimal as the original? (should I add inline or some-such?)

  • MIPS Assembler Instruction parameters

    - by Martin K.
    Hi, why does such a instruction as mul $t1, $v0 , 4 evaluates as expected. But mul $t1, 4 , $v0 results in a syntax error! I wonder why the first one works, because mul only works with registers per default, so I expect that only a solution like this will be workin li $t1, 4 # set $t1 = 4 mul $t1, $v0 , $t1 # set $t1 = 4 * n I'm using the SPIM simulator.

  • Select a distinct record, filtering is not working..

    Hello EVery I am new to SQl. query to result in the following records. I have a table with records as c1 c2 c3 c4 c5 c6 1 John 2.3.2010 12:09:54 4 7 99 2 mike 2.3.2010 13:09:59 8 6 88 3 ahmad 2.3.2010 13:09:59 1 9 19 4 Jim 23.3.2010 16:35:14 4 5 99 5 run 23.3.2010 12:09:54 3 8 12 I want to fecth only records. i.e only 1 latest record per day. If both of them happen at the same time, sort by C1.so in 1&3 it should fetch 3. 3 ahmad 2.3.2010 14:09:59 1 9 19 4 Jim 23.3.2010 16:35:14 4 5 99 I have got a new problem in this. If i filter the records based on conditions the last record is missing. I tried many ways but still it is failing. Here update_log is my table. SELECT * FROM update_log t1 WHERE (t1.c3) = ( SELECT MAX(t2.c3) FROM update_log t2 WHERE DATEDIFF(dd,t2.c3, t1.c3) = 0 ) and t1.c3 > '02.03.2010' and t1.modified_at <= '22.03.2010' ORDER BY t1.c3 ASC. But i am not able to retrieve the record 4 Jim 23.3.2010 16:35:14 4 5 99 I dont know this query results in only 3 ahmad 2.3.2010 14:09:59 1 9 19 The format of the column c3 is datetime. I am pumping the data into the column as using $date = date("d.m.Y H:i",time()); -- simple date fetch of today. Another query that i tried for the same purpose. select * from (select convert(varchar(10), c3,104) as date, max(c3) as max_date, max(c1) as Nr from update_log group by convert(varchar(10), c3,104)) as t2 inner join update_log as t1 on (t2.max_date = t1.c3 and convert(varchar(10), c3,104) = date and t1.[c1]= Nr) WHERE t1.c3 >= '02.03.2010' and t1.c3 <= '16.04.2010' . I even tried this way..the same error last record is not coming..

  • Sql serve Full Text Search with Containstable is very slow when Used in JOIN!

    - by Bob
    Hello, I am using sql 2008 full text search and I am having serious issues with performance depending on how I use Contains or ContainsTable. Here are sample: (table one has about 5000 records and there is a covered index on table1 which has all the fields in the where clause. I tried to simplify the statements so forgive me if there is syntax issues.) Scenario 1: select * from table1 as t1 where t1.field1=90 and t1.field2='something' and Exists(select top 1 * from containstable(table1,*, 'something') as t2 where t2.[key]=t1.id) results: 10 second (very slow) Scenario 2: select * from table1 as t1 join containstable(table1,*, 'something') as t2 on t2.[key] = t1.id where t1.field1=90 and t1.field2='something' results: 10 second (very slow) Scenario 3: Declare @tbl Table(id uniqueidentifier primary key) insert into @tbl select {key] from containstable(table1,*, 'something') select * from table1 as t1 where t1.field1=90 and t1.field2='something' and Exists(select id from @tbl as tbl where id=req1.id) results: fraction of a second (super fast) Bottom line, it seems if I use Containstable in any kind of join or where clause condition of a select statement that also has other conditions, the performance is really bad. In addition if you look at profiler, the number of reads from the database goes to the roof. But if I first do the full text search and put results in a table variable and use that variable everything goes super fast. The number of reads are also much lower. It seems in "bad" scenarios, somehow it gets stuck in a loop which causes it to read many times from teh database but of course I don't understant why. Now the question is first of all whyis that happening? and question two is that how scalable table variables are? what if it results to 10s of thousands of records? is it still going to be fast. Any ideas? Thanks

  • Scheduling of tasks to a single resource using Prolog

    - by Reed Debaets
    I searched through here as best I could and though I found some relevant questions, I don't think they covered the question at hand: Assume a single resource and a known list of requests to schedule a task. Each request includes a start_after, start_by, expected_duration, and action. The goal is to schedule the tasks for execution as soon as possible while keeping each task scheduled between start_after and start_by. I coded up a simple prolog example that I "thought" should work but I've been unfortunately getting errors during run time: "=/2: Arguments are not sufficiently instantiated". Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated startAfter(1,0). startAfter(2,0). startAfter(3,0). startBy(1,100). startBy(2,500). startBy(3,300). duration(1,199). duration(2,199). duration(3,199). action(1,'noop1'). action(2,'noop2'). action(3,'noop3'). can_run(R,T) :- startAfter(R,TA),startBy(R,TB),T>=TA,T=<TB. conflicts(T,R1,T1) :- duration(R1,D1),T=<D1+T1,T>T1. schedule(R1,T1,R2,T2,R3,T3) :- can_run(R1,T1),\+conflicts(T1,R2,T2),\+conflicts(T1,R3,T3), can_run(R2,T2),\+conflicts(T2,R1,T1),\+conflicts(T2,R3,T3), can_run(R3,T3),\+conflicts(T3,R1,T1),\+conflicts(T3,R2,T2). % when traced I *should* see T1=0, T2=400, T3=200 Edit: conflicts goal wasn't quite right: needed extra TT1 clause. Edit: Apparently my schedule goal works if I supply valid Request,Time pairs ... but I'm stucking trying to force prolog to find valid values for T1..3 when given R1..3?

  • How does Haskell do pattern matching without us defining an Eq on our data types?

    - by devoured elysium
    I have defined a binary tree: data Tree = Null | Node Tree Int Tree and have implemented a function that'll yield the sum of the values of all its nodes: sumOfValues :: Tree -> Int sumOfValues Null = 0 sumOfValues (Node Null v Null) = v sumOfValues (Node Null v t2) = v + (sumOfValues t2) sumOfValues (Node t1 v Null) = v + (sumOfValues t1) sumOfValues (Node t1 v t2) = v + (sumOfValues t1) + (sumOfValues t2) It works as expected. I had the idea of also trying to implement it using guards: sumOfValues2 :: Tree -> Int sumOfValues2 Null = 0 sumOfValues2 (Node t1 v t2) | t1 == Null && t2 == Null = v | t1 == Null = v + (sumOfValues2 t2) | t2 == Null = v + (sumOfValues2 t1) | otherwise = v + (sumOfValues2 t1) + (sumOfValues2 t2) but this one doesn't work because I haven't implemented Eq, I believe: No instance for (Eq Tree) arising from a use of `==' at zzz3.hs:13:3-12 Possible fix: add an instance declaration for (Eq Tree) In the first argument of `(&&)', namely `t1 == Null' In the expression: t1 == Null && t2 == Null In a stmt of a pattern guard for the definition of `sumOfValues2': t1 == Null && t2 == Null The question that has to be made, then, is how can Haskell make pattern matching without knowing when a passed argument matches, without resorting to Eq?

  • Optimizing multiple dispatch notification algorithm in C#?

    - by Robert Fraser
    Sorry about the title, I couldn't think of a better way to describe the problem. Basically, I'm trying to implement a collision system in a game. I want to be able to register a "collision handler" that handles any collision of two objects (given in either order) that can be cast to particular types. So if Player : Ship : Entity and Laser : Particle : Entity, and handlers for (Ship, Particle) and (Laser, Entity) are registered than for a collision of (Laser, Player), both handlers should be notified, with the arguments in the correct order, and a collision of (Laser, Laser) should notify only the second handler. A code snippet says a thousand words, so here's what I'm doing right now (naieve method): public IObservable<Collision<T1, T2>> onCollisionsOf<T1, T2>() where T1 : Entity where T2 : Entity { Type t1 = typeof(T1); Type t2 = typeof(T2); Subject<Collision<T1, T2>> obs = new Subject<Collision<T1, T2>>(); _onCollisionInternal += delegate(Entity obj1, Entity obj2) { if (t1.IsAssignableFrom(obj1.GetType()) && t2.IsAssignableFrom(obj2.GetType())) obs.OnNext(new Collision<T1, T2>((T1) obj1, (T2) obj2)); else if (t1.IsAssignableFrom(obj2.GetType()) && t2.IsAssignableFrom(obj1.GetType())) obs.OnNext(new Collision<T1, T2>((T1) obj2, (T2) obj1)); }; return obs; } However, this method is quite slow (measurable; I lost ~2 FPS after implementing this), so I'm looking for a way to shave a couple cycles/allocation off this. I thought about (as in, spent an hour implementing then slammed my head against a wall for being such an idiot) a method that put the types in an order based on their hash code, then put them into a dictionary, with each entry being a linked list of handlers for pairs of that type with a boolean indication whether the handler wanted the order of arguments reversed. Unfortunately, this doesn't work for derived types, since if a derived type is passed in, it won't notify a subscriber for the base type. Can anyone think of a way better than checking every type pair (twice) to see if it matches? Thanks, Robert
