• Terrible ping time with TP-Link wireless router

• Doing port forwarding and then using it from within the internal network

  We all know that by doing port forwarding on the router, computers from outside the network are able, on the specified ports, to access internal computers by targeting the external IP. I'm now replacing a TP-Link router with a D-link VDSL N 6740U router, (and copied over all the settings,) and I've noticed that one thing stopped working: With the TP-link router, you could access those port-forwarded computers from within the network, using the external IP, and they would be forwarded to the relevant computers. With the new D-Link router, it doesn't work. You might be wondering, why would you want to use the external IP and port forwarding when you're inside the internal network anyway and can just access the internal IP? One example for why this is useful: You have an iPhone app that connects to a service on an internal computer. The iPhone app knows to connect to the external IP. When we put that iPhone inside the internal network (via WiFi), it suddenly stops working, because it can't access the service from the external IP anymore. Is it an inherent property of D-Link routers that they do not allow accessing internal servers from inside the network by targeting the external IP? Or is there a way to make it work?

  I was thinking of picking up a couple of TP-Link wireless routers, and setting them to bridge. I have a sep. LAN network that would have one of them, and I'd put one on my internet connection. Would I be able to keep my current IP subnets? (255.255.255.0 and 255.0.0.0) or would I have to pull my IPs from the same IP range. (I want to keep my current DHCP servers in place) The reason I want a bridge is so that I can VPN into the internal network.

  Hi! I've some question about this router. Before starting, some configurations, specified by my provider. Wan1 VPN IP - 192.168.172.84 Mask - 255.255.255.0 Gateway - 192.168.172.253 DNS - 195.110.6.7 Wan2 Dynamic IP DHCP - 168.120.1.34 Mask - 255.255.255.0 Router IP 192.168.1.1 Computer IP 192.168.1.7 Routes: route -p add 192.168.0.0 mask 255.255.0.0 192.168.172.253 route -p add 195.110.6.0 mask 255.255.254.0 192.168.172.253 route -p add 88.135.112.0 mask 255.255.240.0 192.168.172.253 route -p add 178.219.160.0 mask 255.255.240.0 192.168.172.253 For first provider I need to provide a routes. 'Cause router does not support different routes for different WAN interfaces I put them in "Static routes". But when I try to save them I've got an error: Destination IP address can not be set in a same subnet with the WAN or LAN IP address. If I change IP's to local like 192.168.x.x router tell me: Gateway must be set in a same subnet with WAN or LAN IP address. Changing mask on WAN1 interface to 255.255.0.0 doesn't help. Any ideas? PS! Or maybe I'm must email to TP-Link support?

  I'm using a DataList to show some data from the database and populating the fields on the html side. I now have a requirement to change the visibility of a panel based on whether or not a db field has data or not. I need to be able to show the panel if the relevant data field has content, and hide it if it doesn't. Eg: <asp:Panel ID="pnlNew" runat="server" Style="margin:0; padding:0; width:42px; height:18px; bottom:5px; right:10px; float:right; position:relative; background:url(../_imgVideoBadge.png) no-repeat;" Visible='<%# Eval("cheese") != null %>' ToolTip="available"></asp:Panel> Obviously this doesn't work in terms of the visible property. But hopefully it gives an idea of what I'm trying to achieve. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've seen examples previously of doing something along the lines of: a ?? b:c How could this be applied to the above requirement?? Thanks in advance.

After I connect via wireless a laptop (192.168.0.100) to tplink and both work good but with the laptop I can't go to Internet. It seems as WDS not work. With the laptop I can only ping the tplink but other ping (the dlink or other LAN computer not responding). What's the problem? Perhaps also the dlink must have the WDS option? Thanks.

  I have a wireless router 150M Wireless Lite N Router Model No. TL-WR740N / TL-WR740ND. Normally, when I'm connected to the local network using eth0 I can ping other machines by issuing ping name. When I'm connected through wifi I have to issue ping name.domain.com. The machine is only visible in intranet. How to achieve the same behavior with wifi? The second problem is, that I can not connect to some external sites through wifi but through eth everything is ok. I guess that is related to some port forwarding, but I'm not sure. • How do I get a TP-LINK WN723N wireless USB adapter working?

  I am having trouble using a TP-LINK WN723N wireless USB adapter on my computer which is running Ubuntu 12.04. When I plug the adapter in, the computer automatically picks up a signal from my wireless router but only connects to the internet for a short amount of time before losing the connection. I have searched for additional drivers and have tried running the .exe installation file on the WINE drive with no such luck... Am very new to Ubuntu would love some help! Thanks :-)

• How can I set my TP-Link TL-WR1043ND to extend my router - modem range?

  I'd like to extend my WiFi coverage, so I've bought the TP-Link TL-WR1043ND and updated its firmware to the latest (wr1043nv1_en_3_13_4_up(110429)) but I can't find how to use its WDS function. Reading further on Super User I understand that both the modem-router (Pirelli Alice Gate) and the TL-WR1043ND should support WDS. Are there any tricks to achieve the same result - extending my WiFi range - even changing the firmware to DD-WRT or Tomato etc?

• No windows preview option(Similar tp Windows 7) in compiz?

  Guys I saw a video on the net regarding compiz to enable windows preview option when i hover a mouse over it. I installed compiz through Ubuntu Software centre and then I searched and found that there is no option called "Windows Preview" in it ! There is a unity option but it doesn't have a windows preview option. Also I would like the freedom to move unity anywhere from top-bottom-left-right. Will this damage my system? Please reply at the earliest :-|

• c - strncpy issue

  Hi there, I am getting segmentation fault when using strncpy and (pointer-to-struct)-(member) notation: I have simplified my code. I initialise a struct and set all of it's tokens to an empty string. Then a declare a pointer to a struct and assign the address of the struct to it. I pass the pointer to a function. I can print out the contents of the struct at the beginning of the function, but if I try to use the tp - mnemonic in a strncpy function, I get seg fault.   I can't locate any record in TADOQuery using PK. First, I was trying to use standard Locate method: PPUQuery.Locate('ID', SpPlansQuery['PPONREC'], []); It always returns False, but manual search (passing the whole query matching ID with given PPONREC which is really slow) finds the desired row. I tried using loPartialKey and switched CursorLocation of query to clUseServer, but it didn't help. Next, I tried to filter my PPUQuery: PPUQuery.Filter := 'ID = ' + VarToStr(SpPlansQuery['PPONREC']); PPUQuery.Filtered := True; PPUQuery.First; But after that the PPUQuery.Eof is True and PPUQuery.RecordCount equals 0. In order to talk about the problem, I need to be posting a bunch of URLs, but the excessive URLs and my lack of reputation makes StackOverflow think I could be a spammer. Any instance of 'ht~tp' is supposed to be 'http'. '{dot}' is supposed to be '.' and '{colon}' is supposed to be ':'. Also, my lack of reputation has prevented me from tagging my question with 'webfinger' and 'google-profiles'. Onto my question: I am messing around with WebFinger and trying to create a small rails app that enables a user to log in using nothing but their WebFinger account. I can succesfully finger myself, and I get back an XRD file with the following snippet: Link rel="ht~tp://specs{dot}openid{dot}net/auth/2.0/provider" href="ht~tp://www{dot}google{dot}com/profiles/{redacted}"/ Which, to me, reads, "I have an OpenID 2.0 login at the url: ht~tp://www{dot}google{dot}com/profiles/{redacted}". • including library and dll into c++ project

  i have a third party library (say tp.lib) and the third party dll (say tp.dll) which i need to use in my C++ project (my project is a dll project, lets call it my.dll). i have include the library with the #pragma comment(lib, "libraryname") in the header file and also included the path of the library file in the configurationproperties-linker-additional library directories in my c++ visual studio project. the code compiles okay. but fails to execute. when i use depends to check if i am missing someting i observe that the tp.dll is missing from my.dll. the tp.dll resides in the same library folder where the tp.lib resides. my quesiton is what should i do so that tp.dll get included to my.dll thanks in advance

• How to emulate wireless in Virtualbox?

  I have WinXP install in virtualbox which host in Linux. I have a TP-Link (TP-WN321G) USB wifi adapter and have the driver installed inside WinXP. When I plug-in the wifi adapter, there is an option show "Ralink 802.11g WLAN [0101]" in the virtualbox's USB icon, tick on that option, the Device Manager able to detect the hardware which shows TP-Link, but when look into the properties, it says there is no driver was install. I did try to install Ralink driver but still no luck. Just curious why my wifi adapter is TP-Link, but the option show Ralink? May I know how can I emulate the wireless network inside WindowsXP?

• Set up WLAN in 3-level house

  I'm having a hard time setting up the network in our house. It has three levels (basement, ground floor, first level). The WLAN is set up by an ASUS RT-N12 router which provides perfect coverage for the ground floor and the basement. However, I set up my "home office" in the basement where the signal barely arrived. So I purchased a TP-Link TL-WA901ND (300 Mbps) Access Point which I set up in the other corner of the ground floor to expand the ASUS router's range. I used the AP's Repeater mode for that. The distance between my computer and the TP-Link AP is 6-7 meters. There is a staircase going down from the ground floor to the basement so there are no solid walls between the computer and the AP. This setup mostly works (I am writing this from the basement) but it is not reliable (the signal strength sometimes goes down to ~40% of the max) sometimes so I wonder if I am doing it correctly or if there is a better way. UPDATE Tried one more thing, setting up the TP-LINK AP in Access Point mode. That way, I can make it use a different SSID. I enabled WDS/Bridge so that it expands the range of the ASUS router (see screenshot). That does not work, either, if I connect to the network set up by the TP-LINK device (PELSTER-2), I can't reach the external network (the Internet). It seems the problem always comes back to this, the TP-LINK does not have access to the external network, whatever its mode of operation.
