  • CCNet TFS Migration - Dealing with left over folders

    Im currently in the process of migrating our many BizTalk projects from MKS source control to TFS.  While we will be using TFS for work item tracking and source control etc we will be continuing to use Cruise Control for continuous integration although im updating this to CCNet 1.5 at the same time. Ill post a few things as much as a reminder to myself about some of the problems we come across. Problem After the first build of our code the next time a build is triggered an error is encountered by the TFS source control block refreshing the source code. Interestingly there are other folders created by the build which are deleted fine.  My assumption is that this if something to do with the file adapter polling the directory.  However note that we have not had this problem with other source control blocks in the past.   • How to access "Custom" or non-System TFS workitem fields using PowerShell?

    When using PowerShell to extract information from TFS, I find that I can get at the standard fields but not "Custom" fields. I'm not sure custom is the correct term, but for example if I look at the Process Editor in VS2008 and edit the Work Item type, there are fields such as listed below, with Name, Type and RefName: Title String System.Title State String System.State Rev Integer System.Rev Changed By String System.ChangedBy I can access these with Get-TfsItemHistory: Get-TfsItemHistory "$/path" -Version "D01/12/10~" -R | Select -exp WorkItems | Format-Table Title, State, Rev, ChangedBy -Auto So far so good. However, there are also some other fields in the WorkItem type, which I'm calling "Custom" or non-System fields, e.g.: Activated By String Microsoft.VSTS.Common.ActivatedBy Resolved By String Microsoft.VSTS.Common.ResolvedBy And the following command does not retrieve the data, just spaces. Get-TfsItemHistory "$/path" -Version "D01/12/10~" -R | Select -exp WorkItems | Format-Table ActivatedBy, ResolvedBy -Auto I've also tried the names in quotes, the fully qualified refname, but no luck. How do you access these "non-System" fields?   • WCF cross-domain policy security error

    Hello everyone, I am using VSTS 2008 + C# + WCF + .Net 3.5 + Silverlight 3.0. I host Silverlight control in an html page and debug it from VSTS 2008 (press F5, then run in VSTS 2008 built-in ASP.Net development web server), then call another WCF service (hosted in another machine running IIS 7.0 + Vista). The WCF service is very simple, just return a constant string to client. When invoking the WCF service from Silverlight, I got the following error message, An error occurred while trying to make a request to URI 'https://LabTest/Test.svc'. This could be due to attempting to access a service in a cross-domain way without a proper cross-domain policy in place, or a policy that is unsuitable for SOAP services. You may need to contact the owner of the service to publish a cross-domain policy file and to ensure it allows SOAP-related HTTP headers to be sent. This error may also be caused by using internal types in the web service proxy without using the InternalsVisibleToAttribute attribute. Please see the inner exception for more details.   • I want tell the VC++ Compiler to compile all code. Can it be done?

    I am using VS2005 VC++ for unmanaged C++. I have VSTS and am trying to use the code coverage tool to accomplish two things with regards to unit tests: See how much of my referenced code under test is getting executed See how many methods of my code under test (if any) are not unit tested at all Setting up the VSTS code coverage tool (see the link text) and accomplishing task #1 was straightforward. However #2 has been a surprising challenge for me. Here is my test code. class CodeCoverageTarget { public: std::string ThisMethodRuns() { return "Running"; } std::string ThisMethodDoesNotRun() { return "Not Running"; } }; #include <iostream> #include "CodeCoverageTarget.h" using namespace std; int main() { CodeCoverageTarget cct; cout<<cct.ThisMethodRuns()<<endl; } When both methods are defined within the class as above the compiler automatically eliminates the ThisMethodDoesNotRun() from the obj file. If I move it's definition outside the class then it is included in the obj file and the code coverage tool shows it has not been exercised at all. Under most circumstances I want the compiler to do this elimination for me but for the code coverage tool it defeats a significant portion of the value (e.g. finding untested methods). I have tried a number of things to tell the compiler to stop being smart for me and compile everything but I am stumped. It would be nice if the code coverage tool compensated for this (I suppose by scanning the source and matching it up with the linker output) but I didn't find anything to suggest it has a special mode to be turned on. Am I totally missing something simple here or is this not possible with the VC++ compiler + VSTS code coverage tool? Thanks in advance, KGB

    Hello everyone, I am using SQL Server 2008 Enterprise with VSTS 2008, and I am developing a simple web application using ASP.Net and Forms Authentication. When I am using the configuration tool/menu of VSTS of my ASP.Net project (I want to use this tool to manually add some Forms authentication users), I met with the following error (SqlException), Trying to attach file D:\Projects\MyTest\App_Data\aspnetdb.mdf to automatically named database failed. It may be caused by existing the same name database, or may be caused by specified file can not be opened or caused by the specified file exists in UNC share. In my computer, there is no aspnetdb.mdf under dir D:\Projects\MyTest\App_Data, and I have used aspnet_regsql to generate database successfully before I run the configuration tool.   • Automatically create bug resolution task using the TFS 2010 API

    My customer requires bug resolution to be approved and tracked.  To minimize the overhead for developers I implemented a TFS 2010 server-side plug-in to automatically create a child resolution task for the bug when the “CCB” field is set to approved. The CCB field is a custom field.  I also added the story points field to the bug WIT for sizing purposes. Redundant tasks will not be created unless the bug title is changed or the prior task is closed. The program writes an audit trail to a log file visible in the TFS Admin Console Log view.   • Automated test, build and deploy

    I have visual studio team suite 2008. I was unable to meet the requirements to setup TFS, so I'm using TortoiseSvn and VisualSvn as my version contol in VSTS. I need the system setup to do the following: I neeed to be able to create and track workitems. When updates are made to the current project worked on in VSTS, the updates will be commited back to version control. Tests will be run to see that updates don't break the application. If there's a problem with the update it will be reported back to the developer. If there's no problem with the app, which is a clickonce application, it will automatically be built and deployed to an ftp server. I've never worked with version control, build servers, automated testing and continous intergration. I need to know what needs to be put in place for this type of system. I don't know which combination/stack I should be using: CC.net, TeamCity, Hudson, NAnt, NUnit, MsTest, Trac, BugTracker.net, Ndepend, VisualSvn Server, Perforce, Msdeploy, SCM. I want something that is free/opensource and relatively easy to setup and use. Please suggest a setup that will fit my needs. Any help appreciated

  • Project not publishing start/finish date for custom TFS work items

    I've got a TFS 2012 project set up with custom work items, that include Start and Finish date read-only fields (Microsoft.VSTS.Scheduling.StartDate and FinishDate). When I publish one of those custom work items from within Office Project, it does not populate those fields the same way as when I publish a Task work item (builtin TFS work item). I've looked at the transitions in the work items, and also the TFS project field mapping XML file but can't find anything that explains the difference in behaviour. What am I missing?

  • Looking for tutorial to call WCF service from classic ASP

    Hello everyone, I have some legacy classic ASP code (not ASP.Net, but ASP), and I want to call a WCF service which I developed by using VSTS 2008 + C# + .Net 3.5 and using basic Http Binding. Any reference samples? I heard the only way is -- we have to manually generate the tricky SOAP message, and parse SOAP response, is that true? :-) thanks in advance, George

My question is, if I am using Asynchronous Processing=true with SQL Server authentication mode (not Windows authentication mode, i.e. using sa account and password in connection string in web.config), I am wondering whether Asynchronous Processing=true will impact performance of my web application (or depends on my ADO.Net code implementation pattern/scenario)?     I have been trying using MS VSTS 2008, no luck so far.. After the redirection from server to accomodate the sessionID in URL, the test fails during the first time recording. I am open to looking at other tools which are not very expensive. Does anyone have any experience using any tool for testing cookieless sessionID website?

I have tried with other wmv files, and there are no such issues. BTW: I am using Expression Encoder 3 SDK.   • Can you recommend an alternative for NCover?

    I'm looking for a good .Net code coverage alternative to NCover (insufficient .Net 3.5 coverage and now pay-for) or VSTS (way too expensive). We currently test with NUnit, but could switch to something with a similar 'layout' for its text fixtures if it were better integrated.
