  • Integer overflow exploitable?

    - by wuntee
    Does anyone have a detailed explanation on how integers can be exploited? I have been reading a lot about the concept, and I understand what an it is, and I understand buffer overflows, but I dont understand how one could modify memory reliably, or in a way to modify application flow, by making an integer larger than its defined memory....

  • Java synchronized method lock on object, or method?

    - by wuntee
    If I have 2 synchronized methods in the same class, but each accessing different variables, can 2 threads access those 2 methods at the same time? Does the lock occur on the object, or does it get as specific as the variables inside the synchronized method? Example: class x{ private int a; private int b; public synchronized void addA(){ a++; } public synchronized void addB(){ b++; } } Can 2 threads access the same instance of class x performing x.addA() and x.addB() at the same time?

  • JAAS tutorial - how to force application to run with policy

    - by wuntee
    I just went through this tutorial: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/security/tour2/index.html And was curios about the basic concept of JAAS... If every applcation needs to be run with the '-Djava.security.manager -Djava.security.policy=...' flags, what is enforcing security? Is it up to the end user to know when any Java application is being run, and modify the executable/script/whatever to include those flags? Or, how does a developer enforce that an application is run with the security manager enabled? The whole concept doesnt seem very functional to me - as it is by default not enabled... Am I missing something?

  • m2eclipse/svn project with packaging of pom

    - by wuntee
    I have a project with the following layout taac * taac-web * taac-backend-api * taac-scheduler all of this is checked into an SVN repository. When creating a new project in eclipse (originally) I checked out the root taac directory, and it gave me the option to select each of the sub-projects to create new eclipse projects for. I had a problem with svn and had to remove the projects from eclipse, and now when trying to check them out, i no longer get this option. If I select just the sub-projects, then their pom's are invalid (due to not having the parent pom).... Does anyone know how to get that option to select each separate project out?

  • Spring security @notation for IS_AUTHENTICATED_FULLY?

    - by wuntee
    I am simply trying to allow a user access to a method if they are authenticated, but nothing I am doing seems to work. Is there a way to just check if the user has been authenticated? The following still denies the user even when authenticated... Is there a built in role for an authenticated user? @RequestMapping("/secure") @PreAuthorize("hasRole('IS_AUTHENTICATED_FULLY')") public String secure(ModelMap map){ return("secure"); }

  • Spring Web: Correct way to have a single default ViewResolver

    - by wuntee
    What is the best way to have every request be sent to a single ViewResolver - specifically in this case a JsonView? Was thinking this: <bean id="viewResolver" class="org.springframework.web.servlet.view.UrlBasedViewResolver"> <property name="viewClass" value="org.springframework.web.servlet.view.json.MappingJacksonJsonView" /> <property name="prefix" value="*" /> </bean> but, is there something better/easier?
