• Is MVC now the only way to write PHP?

  Hey... its XMAS Eve and something is bugging me... yes, I have work on my mind even when I am on holiday. The vast amount of frameworks available for PHP now use MVC. Even ASP.net has its own MVC module. I can see the attraction of MVC, I really can and I use it frequently. The only downside that I can see is that you have to fire up the whole system to execute a page request. Depending on your task this can be a little wasteful. So the question. In a professional environment is this the only way to use PHP nowadays or are their other design methods which have alternative benefits?

• Can I share my cable internet connection through my ADSL wireless router?

  Hi All Over the xmas period I am at my in-laws. They have Virgin Broadband (cable) and have a basic modem / router that is plugged directly into their computer using an ethernet cable. My wife and I arrived with 5 PCs! (ok, one is a gift and won't be used) 4 of which are laptops so I would like to be able to use their internet connection. At the moment I am working so have plugged the ethernet cable into my work laptop. Rebooting the router meant that my work laptop now has internet. I have my ADSL Netgear router which is wireless. I tried plugging it in between the router and the PC but I didn't seem to be able to share the internet connection wirelessly. The original PC still had internet despite ony being connected to my router but my wireless laptop didn't have a connection. My old cable router had an internet ethernet port on the back that the modem plugged into. My ADSL router doesn't, it has a phone connection socket. Is there a way of doing what I want with the equipment I have? Thanks

• HP tx2510us shuts down without warning, now won't boot, no BIOS codes, screen doesn't light

  Hey all, HP tx2150us worked great for a year and a half, rarely it would shut down instead of sleeping. It started running hot sometimes, I installed Win7, worked great, still running hot. Before Xmas, it gave me evidence of video errors - jagged lines, rows missing. That same night, it started rebooting, then it shut off and wouldn't boot. It gave me a BIOS code, I shut it off to look up the code online. When I turned it on again, it won't boot at all. The LEDs all light up, the fan, HD, and optical all spin up, but the screen never lights up and it doesn't try to boot, nor does it blink any BIOS codes. It just acts like it's sleeping, and won't wake up. I suspected heat problems, so I disassembled it, cleaned the crap out of the fan, and reassembled it, breaking the stereo mic connector. Oh well. When I reassembled it, it booted up into Win7 again, but kept shutting down for no discernible reason. After a dozen or so random reboots like that, it is now back to where it was - turns on but doesn't boot or give BIOS codes. The screen never lights, and everything spins up then idles. Any ideas? I really can't afford to buy a new one and I use(d) it to take ALL my notes, that's why I got a tablet in the first place.

• How to stop my wireless adapter from received dhcp from router (windows)

  Hi, I have a windows 7 computer which is connected via vpn to an OpenVpn server which happens to be in another country. I have all internet traffic being routed from my computer through the vpn to the server. However dns queries are not going through the vpn, but are instead going directly to my isp's dns via a route outside of the vpn tunnel. This is happening because my wireless adapter is configured to obtain DNS server address automatically. The router that stands between my computer and the internet happens to have a DCHP server running on it that is assinging my computer with the DNS addresses of the isp. The issue is, i haven't been able to stop my wireless adapter on my computer from receiving the dns settings from the router. I've tried selecting 'use the following dns server addresses' and then just leaving them blank, but ipconfig /all shows me that this hasn't worked and i'm still getting dns form the router. So is there any way to completely stop my windows wireless adapter from receiving these settings from the router? I have the OpenVpn server pushing to my computer's tun adapter the dns that it should be using. I'd rather solve this in a way that doesn't involve disabling the dhcp server on the router or fiddling with the router. The reason is i'm on a laptop and i want my vpn to not leak dns even when i'm out, for example in wireless hotspots. I know if i could just force the wireless adapter to ignore the router's dhcp server then my dns queries would go through the tunnel to the dns address pushed by the OpenVpn server. It means snort start from last few hours of tcpdump file and generate alerts about this section of file and all of packets in first hours are ignored. Another problem in generatin alert is in time stamp of generated alerts. This means when I run snort on a specific day of dataset, snort insert incorrect time stamp for that alert. This is what I did, and it works fine, but I'm not sure if it is the right way to do it. In addition to port 80, i also need to have port 3306 (mysql) and 22 (ssh) open for external connections. • jQuery fade li elemet and cycle it when mouse hovered.

  I'm trying to recreate an effect in jQuery, where an element(<li> <img>) will be cycled and has a fading effect when hovered. The '<li>' contains '<img>' (image screenshots). when the mouse is on top of element it will keep cycling all that are in '<ul>' with a fading effect. when the mouse is away it will stop cycling the list. I also want to add a pager where you can navigate to the list. My Existing Code: link text My Problem: The current code has some problem with the pagination, it added all images that can be seen on the code. instead of 1-8 only, it continued to add another 1-8 and another. Second problem is, It also start cycling and fading when the page loads. The cycling and fading should only be working when the mouse is on top of the element. I don't know if the 'Cycle Plugin' is really required on this approach, I wan't it to be minimal as much as possible. I just use 'Cycle Plugin' because it's a quick answer to my problem.   I have a problem with the following code. I tried changing many things (symbols, classes, imgs in the code) but this is killing me and I have no idea how to fix it. Sorry it's so specific, when solved I'll change the title to something more useful. I have two images. My jquery has to calculate the day and show one image or the other depending on that (using a class with display:none). My month has 24 days (it's a xmas thing).
