• Sharepoint : Access denied when editing a page (because of page layout) or list item

- by tinky05
I'm logged in as the System Account, so it's probably not a "real access denied"! What I've done : - A custom master page - A custom page layout from a custom content type (with custom fields) If I add a custom field (aka "content field" in the tools in SPD) in my page layout, I get an access denied when I try to edit a page that comes from that page layout. So, for example, if I add in my page layout this line in a "asp:content" tag : I get an access denied. If I remove it, everyting is fine. (the field "test" is a field that comes from the content type). Any idea? UPDATE Well, I tried in a blank site and it worked fine, so there must be something wrong with my web application :( UPDATE #2 Looks like this line in the master page gives me the access denied : <SharePoint:DelegateControl runat="server" ControlId="PublishingConsole" Visible="false" PrefixHtml="<tr><td colspan="0" id="mpdmconsole" class="s2i-consolemptablerow">" SuffixHtml="</td></tr>"></SharePoint:DelegateControl> UPDATE #3 I Found http://odole.wordpress.com/2009/01/30/access-denied-error-message-while-editing-properties-of-any-document-in-a-moss-document-library/ Looks like a similar issue. But our Sharepoint versions are with the latest updates. I'll try to use the code that's supposed to fix the lists and post another update. ** UPDATE #4** OK... I tried the code that I found on the page above (see link) and it seems to fix the thing. I haven't tested the solution at 100% but so far, so good. Here's the code I made for a feature receiver (I used the code posted from the link above) : using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; using Microsoft.SharePoint; using System.Xml; namespace MyWebsite.FixAccessDenied { class FixAccessDenied : SPFeatureReceiver { public override void FeatureActivated(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties) { FixWebField(SPContext.Current.Web); } public override void FeatureDeactivating(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties) { //throw new Exception("The method or operation is not implemented."); } public override void FeatureInstalled(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties) { //throw new Exception("The method or operation is not implemented."); } public override void FeatureUninstalling(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties) { //throw new Exception("The method or operation is not implemented."); } static void FixWebField(SPWeb currentWeb) { string RenderXMLPattenAttribute = "RenderXMLUsingPattern"; SPSite site = new SPSite(currentWeb.Url); SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb(); web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true; web.Update(); SPField f = web.Fields.GetFieldByInternalName("PermMask"); string s = f.SchemaXml; Console.WriteLine("schemaXml before: " + s); XmlDocument xd = new XmlDocument(); xd.LoadXml(s); XmlElement xe = xd.DocumentElement; if (xe.Attributes[RenderXMLPattenAttribute] == null) { XmlAttribute attr = xd.CreateAttribute(RenderXMLPattenAttribute); attr.Value = "TRUE"; xe.Attributes.Append(attr); } string strXml = xe.OuterXml; Console.WriteLine("schemaXml after: " + strXml); f.SchemaXml = strXml; foreach (SPWeb sites in site.AllWebs) { FixField(sites.Url); } } static void FixField(string weburl) { string RenderXMLPattenAttribute = "RenderXMLUsingPattern"; SPSite site = new SPSite(weburl); SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb(); web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true; web.Update(); System.Collections.Generic.IList
guidArrayList = new System.Collections.Generic.List
(); foreach (SPList list in web.Lists) { guidArrayList.Add(list.ID); } foreach (Guid guid in guidArrayList) { SPList list = web.Lists[guid]; SPField f = list.Fields.GetFieldByInternalName("PermMask"); string s = f.SchemaXml; Console.WriteLine("schemaXml before: " + s); XmlDocument xd = new XmlDocument(); xd.LoadXml(s); XmlElement xe = xd.DocumentElement; if (xe.Attributes[RenderXMLPattenAttribute] == null) { XmlAttribute attr = xd.CreateAttribute(RenderXMLPattenAttribute); attr.Value = "TRUE"; xe.Attributes.Append(attr); } string strXml = xe.OuterXml; Console.WriteLine("schemaXml after: " + strXml); f.SchemaXml = strXml; } } } } Just put that code as a Feature Receiver, and activate it at the root site, it should loop trough all the subsites and fix the lists. SUMMARY You get an ACCESS DENIED when editing a PAGE or an ITEM You still get the error even if you're logged in as the Super Admin of the f****in world (sorry, I spent 3 days on that bug) For me, it happened after an import from another site definition (a cmp file) Actually, it's supposed to be a known bug and it's supposed to be fixed since February 2009, but it looks like it's not. The code I posted above should fix the thing.

• XmlSerializer and Mark-up (Xml or Html)

- by Kieron
Hi, I've a requirement to serialize any class provided (decorated with the appropriate XmlElement/ XmlAttribute etc), but some of the properties may contain some sort of mark-up...usually HTML, but it could as easily be XML in the future. When trying to serialize the class the XmlSerializer crashes. I'd hope to be able to apply no more than an attribute to the property (currently set to XmlText) in the hope that it would wrap the content in CDATA[...], but that doesn't seem to work. I've seen several 'workarounds' like the one here, but I'd hoped for something a little less impactful for the developing consumer. Does anyone know of any 'nicer' less invasive solution...? Thanks, Kieron

• XML deserialization problem (attribute with a namespace)

- by Johnny
hi, I'm trying to deserialize the following XML node (RDF actually) into a class. <rdf:Description rdf:about="http://d.opencalais.com/genericHasher-1/dae360d4-25f1-34a7-9c70-d5f7e4cfe175"> <rdf:type rdf:resource="http://s.opencalais.com/1/type/em/e/Country"/> <c:name>Egypt</c:name> </rdf:Description> [Serializable] [XmlRoot(Namespace = "http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#", ElementName = "Description")] public class BasicEntity { [XmlElement(Namespace = "http://s.opencalais.com/1/pred/", ElementName = "name")] public string Name { get; set; } [XmlAttribute("about", Namespace = "http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#")] public string Uri { get; set; } } The name element is parsed correctly but the about attribute isn't. What am I doing wrong?

• jaxb XmlAccessType: PROPERTY example

- by Bjorn J
I'm trying to use jaxb and want to use the 'XmlAccessType.PROPERTY' to let jaxb use getters/setters rather than variable directly, but get different errors depending on what I try, or the variable isn't set at all like I want. Any good link or pointer to a simple example? For example, the below makes the groupDefintion not to be set when parsing the xml document: @XmlAccessorType(javax.xml.bind.annotation.XmlAccessType.PROPERTY) public class E { private EGroup groupDefinition; public EGroup getGroupDefinition () { return groupDefinition; } @XmlAttribute public void setGroupDefinition (EGroup g) { groupDefinition = g; } }

• Is it possible to coerce string values in xml to bool?

- by Kugel
Let's suppose I have xml like this one: <Server Active="No">
</Server> C# class looks like this: public class Server { [XmlAttribute()] public string Active { get; set; } public string Url { get; set; } } Is it possible to change Active property to type bool and have XmlSerializer coerce "Yes" "No" to bool values? Edit: Xml is received, I cannot change it. So, in fact, i'm interested in deserialization only.

• Automatically minifying attribute/element names when using XmlSerializer

- by frou
When serializing a C# class using XmlSerializer, the attributes/elements representing the properties of the class will have the same names as they do in the source code. I know you can override this by doing like so: [XmlAttribute("num")] public int NumberOfThingsThatAbcXyz { get; set; } I'd like the generated XML for my classes to be as compact as possible, but obviously still capable of being automatically deserialized on the other side. Is there a way to have these names minified as much as possible without having to manually think of and annotate everything with a short string? The resultant XML being easily human readable isn't a concern.

• Can I serialize a BitArray to XML?

- by SimonNet
Hello I have a business class which I need to serialize to xml. It has a BitArray property. I have decorated it with [XmlAttribute] but the serialization is failing with To be XML serializable, types which inherit from ICollection must have an implementation of Add(System.Boolean) at all levels of their inheritance hierarchy. System.Collections.BitArray does not implement Add(System.Boolean). I am not sure whether its possible to serialize to xml? If not what would be an efficient means of serializing the BitArray Thanks for looking

• Retrieve enum value based on XmlEnumAttribute name value

- by CletusLoomis
I need a Generic function to retrieve the name or value of an enum based on the XmlEnumAttribute "Name" property of the enum. For example I have the following enum defined: Public Enum Currency <XmlEnum("00")> CDN = 1 <XmlEnum("01")> USA= 2 <XmlEnum("02")> EUR= 3 <XmlEnum("03")> JPN= 4 End Enum The first Currency enum value is 1; the enum name is "CDN"; and the XMLEnumAttribute Name property value is "00". If I have the enum value, I can retrieve the XmlEnumAttribute "Name" value using the following generic function: Public Function GetXmlAttrNameFromEnumValue(Of T)(ByVal pEnumVal As T) As String Dim type As Type = pEnumVal.GetType Dim info As FieldInfo = type.GetField([Enum].GetName(GetType(T), pEnumVal)) Dim att As XmlEnumAttribute = CType(info.GetCustomAttributes(GetType(XmlEnumAttribute), False)(0), XmlEnumAttribute) 'If there is an xmlattribute defined, return the name Return att.Name End Function So using the above function, I can specify the Currency enum type, pass a value of 1, and the return value will be "00". What I need is a function to perform if the opposite. If I have the XmlEnumAttribute Name value "00", I need a function to return a Currency enum with a value of 1. Just as useful would be a function that would return the enum name "CDN". I could then simply parse this to get the enum value. Any assistance would be appreciated.

• Avoid extra xmlns:xsi while adding an attribute to XML root

- by Rakesh kumar
I am creating an xml file using this code: XmlDocument d = new XmlDocument(); XmlDeclaration xmlDeclaration = d.CreateXmlDeclaration("1.0", "utf-8", null); d.InsertBefore(xmlDeclaration,d.DocumentElement); XmlElement root = d.CreateElement("ITRETURN","ITR","http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR1"); XmlAttribute xsiNs = d.CreateAttribute("xsi:schemaLocation", "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"); xsiNs.Value = "http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/main ITRMain10.xsd"; root.SetAttributeNode(xsiNs); //root.SetAttribute("xsi:schemaLocation", "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"); root.SetAttribute("xmlns:ITR1FORM", "http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR1"); root.SetAttribute("xmlns:ITR2FORM", "http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR2"); root.SetAttribute("xmlns:ITR3FORM", "http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR3"); root.SetAttribute("xmlns:ITR4FORM", "http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR4"); d.AppendChild(root); d.Save("c://myxml.xml"); and I am getting an output like this - - <ITRETURN:ITR xsi:schemaLocation="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/main ITRMain10.xsd" xmlns:ITR1FORM="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR1" xmlns:ITR2FORM="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR2" xmlns:ITR3FORM="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR3" xmlns:ITR4FORM="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR4" xmlns:xsi="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/main ITRMain10.xsd" xmlns:ITRETURN="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR1"> <ITR1FORM:ITR1>root node</ITR1FORM:ITR1> </ITRETURN:ITR> But my requirement is like <ITRETURN:ITR xsi:schemaLocation="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/main ITRMain10.xsd" xmlns:ITR1FORM="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR1" xmlns:ITR2FORM="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR2" xmlns:ITR3FORM="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR3" xmlns:ITR4FORM="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ITR4" xmlns:ITRETURN="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/main" xmlns:ITRForm="http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/master" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> + <ITR1FORM:ITR1>any value </ITR1FORM:ITR1> </ITRETURN:ITR> What do I need to change in my code to get the desired output?

• How do I add a default namespace with no prefix using XMLSerializer

- by OldBob
Hi Using C# and .Net 3.5; I am trying to generate an XML document that contains the default namespace without a prefix using XMLSerializer. eg. <MyRecord ID="9266" xmlns="http://www.website.com/MyRecord"> <List> <SpecificItem> using the following code string xmlizedString = null; MemoryStream memoryStream = new MemoryStream(); XmlSerializer xs = new XmlSerializer(typeof(ExportMyRecord)); XmlSerializerNamespaces xmlnsEmpty = new XmlSerializerNamespaces(); xmlnsEmpty.Add(string.Empty, string.Empty); XmlTextWriter xmlTextWriter = new XmlTextWriter(memoryStream, Encoding.UTF8); xs.Serialize(xmlTextWriter, myRecord, xmlnsEmpty); memoryStream = (MemoryStream)xmlTextWriter.BaseStream; xmlizedString = this.UTF8ByteArrayToString(memoryStream.ToArray()); and class structure [Serializable] [XmlRoot("MyRecord")] public class ExportMyRecord { [XmlAttribute("ID")] public int ID { get; set; } Now, I've tried various options XmlSerializer xs = new XmlSerializer(typeof(ExportMyRecord),"http://www.website.com/MyRecord"); or [XmlRoot(Namespace = "http://www.website.com/MyRecord", ElementName="MyRecord")] gives me <q1:MylRecord ID="9266" xmlns:q1="http://www.website.com/MyRecord"> <q1:List> <q1:SpecificItem> I need the XML to have the namespace without the prefix as it's going to a third party provider and they reject all other alternatives. Any suggestions? No responses so far. Has anyone experienced this or know how to solve it?

• How to deserialize an element as an XmlNode?

- by mackenir
When using Xml serialization in C#, I want to deserialize a part of my input XML to an XmlNode. So, given this XML: <Thing Name="George"> <Document> <subnode1/> <subnode2/> </Document> </Thing> I want to deserialize the Document element to an XmlNode. Below is my attempt which given the XML above, sets Document to the 'subnode1' element rather than the 'Document' element. How would I get the code to set the Document property to the Document element? using System; using System.IO; using System.Xml; using System.Xml.Serialization; [Serializable] public class Thing { [XmlAttribute] public string Name {get;set;} public XmlNode Document { get; set; } } class Program { static void Main() { const string xml = @" <Thing Name=""George""> <Document> <subnode1/> <subnode2/> </Document> </Thing>"; var s = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Thing)); var thing = s.Deserialize(new StringReader(xml)) as Thing; } } However, when I use an XmlSerializer to deserialize the XML above to an instance of Thing, the Document property contains the child element 'subnode1', rather than the 'doc' element. How can I get the XmlSerializer to set Document to an XmlNode containing the 'doc' element.

• XmlSerialize a custom collection with an Attribute

- by roomaroo
I've got a simple class that inherits from Collection and adds a couple of properties. I need to serialize this class to XML, but the XMLSerializer ignores my additional properties. I assume this is because of the special treatment that XMLSerializer gives ICollection and IEnumerable objects. What's the best way around this? Here's some sample code: using System.Collections.ObjectModel; using System.IO; using System.Xml.Serialization; namespace SerialiseCollection { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { var c = new MyCollection(); c.Add("Hello"); c.Add("Goodbye"); var serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(MyCollection)); using (var writer = new StreamWriter("test.xml")) serializer.Serialize(writer, c); } } [XmlRoot("MyCollection")] public class MyCollection : Collection<string> { [XmlAttribute()] public string MyAttribute { get; set; } public MyCollection() { this.MyAttribute = "SerializeThis"; } } } This outputs the following XML (note MyAttribute is missing in the MyCollection element): <MyCollection xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <string>Hello</string> <string>Goodbye</string> </MyCollection> What I want is <MyCollection MyAttribute="SerializeThis" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <string>Hello</string> <string>Goodbye</string> </MyCollection> Any ideas? The simpler the better. Thanks.

• Add namespace to XmlTextWriter using C#

- by xml
Hi, I have an serializeable class that his root is serizlized to XmlRootAttribute with namespace. I want to add additional namespace to this root elemt, how can i do it? adding XmlAttribute failed to compile. • Serialization in C#

- by anjansaha
My class structure is as follows. [Serializable] [XmlRootAttribute("person", Namespace = "", IsNullable = false)] public class Person : IDisposable { Private int _id; Private string _name; [XmlElement(“id”)] Public int Id { Get{ return _id;} Set{ _id = value;} } [XmlElement(“name”)] Public string Name { Get{return _name;} Set{_name = value;} } } I am getting the following xml when I serialize the above class <person>

</person> Now, I would like to serialize the above class as follows i.e. I would like append “type” attribute for each public property that is serialized as xml element. I can append “type” attribute to “person” node by declaring another public property “type” with “[XmlAttribute(“type”)]” but I would like to achieve the same for each public property that is serialized as xml element. Any idea to achieve below: <person type=”Person”>

</person>

• Reading the .vcproj file with C#

- by Dulantha Fernando
We create the vcproj file with the makefileproj keyword so we can use our own build in VS. My question is, using C#, how do you read the "C++" from the following vcproj file: <VisualStudioProject ProjectType="Visual C++" Version="8.00" Name="TestCSProj" ProjectGUID="{840501C9-6AFE-8CD6-1146-84208624C0B0}" RootNamespace="TestCSProj" Keyword="MakeFileProj" > <Platforms> <Platform Name="x64" /> <Platform Name="C++" ===> I need to read "C++" /> </Platforms> I used XmlNode and got upto the second Platform: String path = "C:\\blah\\TestCSProj\\TestCSProj\\TestCSProj.vcproj"; FileStream fs = new FileStream(path, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.ReadWrite); XmlDocument xmldoc = new XmlDocument(); xmldoc.Load(fs); XmlNodeList oldFiles = xmldoc.GetElementsByTagName("Platform"); XmlAttribute name = oldFiles[1].Attributes[0]; Console.WriteLine(name.Name); This will print Name, but I need "C++". How do I read that? Thank you very much in advance

• .NET asmx web services: serialize object property as string property to support versioning

- by mcliedtk
I am in the process of upgrading our web services to support versioning. We will be publishing our versioned web services like so: http://localhost/project/services/1.0/service.asmx http://localhost/project/services/1.1/service.asmx One requirement of this versioning is that I am not allowed to break the original wsdl (the 1.0 wsdl). The challenge lies in how to shepherd the newly versioned classes through the logic that lies behind the web services (this logic includes a number of command and adapter classes). Note that upgrading to WCF is not an option at the moment. To illustrate this, let's consider an example with Blogs and Posts. Prior to the introduction of versions, we were passing concrete objects around instead of interfaces. So an AddPostToBlog command would take in a Post object instead of an IPost. // Old AddPostToBlog constructor. public AddPostToBlog(Blog blog, Post post) { // constructor body } With the introduction of versioning, I would like to maintain the original Post while adding a PostOnePointOne. Both Post and PostOnePointOne will implement the IPost interface (they are not extending an abstract class because that inheritance breaks the wsdl, though I suppose there may be a way around that via some fancy xml serialization tricks). // New AddPostToBlog constructor. public AddPostToBlog(Blog blog, IPost post) { // constructor body } This brings us to my question regarding serialization. The original Post class has an enum property named Type. For various cross-platform compatibility issues, we are changing our enums in our web services to strings. So I would like to do the following: // New IPost interface. public interface IPost { object Type { get; set; } } // Original Post object. public Post { // The purpose of this attribute would be to maintain how // the enum currently is serialized even though now the // type is an object instead of an enum (internally the // object actually is an enum here, but it is exposed as // an object to implement the interface). [XmlMagic(SerializeAsEnum)] object Type { get; set; } } // New version of Post object public PostOnePointOne { // The purpose of this attribute would be to force // serialization as a string even though it is an object. [XmlMagic(SerializeAsString)] object Type { get; set; } } The XmlMagic refers to an XmlAttribute or some other part of the System.Xml namespace that would allow me to control the type of the object property being serialized (depending on which version of the object I am serializaing). Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

• In .NET Xml Serialization, is it possible to serialize a class with an enum property with different

- by Lasse V. Karlsen
I have a class, containing a list property, where the list contains objects that has an enum property. When I serialize this, it looks like this: <test> <events> <test-event type="changing" /> <test-event type="changed" /> </events> </test> Is it possible, through attributes, or similar, to get the Xml to look like this? <test> <events> <changing /> <changed /> </events> </test> Basically, use the property value of the enum as a way to determine the tag-name? Is using a class hierarchy (ie. creating subclasses instead of using the property value) the only way? Edit: After testing, it seems even a class-hierarchy won't actually work. If there is a way to structure the classes to get the output I want, even with sub-classes, that is also an acceptable answer. Here's a sample program that will output the above Xml (remember to hit Ctrl+F5 to run in Visual Studio, otherwise the program window will close immediately): using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Xml.Serialization; namespace ConsoleApplication18 { public enum TestEventTypes { [XmlEnum("changing")] Changing, [XmlEnum("changed")] Changed } [XmlType("test-event")] public class TestEvent { [XmlAttribute("type")] public TestEventTypes Type { get; set; } } [XmlType("test")] public class Test { private List<TestEvent> _Events = new List<TestEvent>(); [XmlArray("events")] public List<TestEvent> Events { get { return _Events; } } } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { Test test = new Test(); test.Events.Add(new TestEvent { Type = TestEventTypes.Changing }); test.Events.Add(new TestEvent { Type = TestEventTypes.Changed }); XmlSerializer serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Test)); XmlSerializerNamespaces ns = new XmlSerializerNamespaces(); ns.Add("", ""); serializer.Serialize(Console.Out, test, ns); } } }

• Doing CRUD on XML using id attributes in C# ASP.NET

- by Brandon G
I'm a LAMP guy and ended up working this small news module for an asp.net site, which I am having some difficulty with. I basically am adding and deleting elements via AJAX based on the id. Before, I had it working based on the the index of a set of elements, but would have issues deleting, since the index would change in the xml file and not on the page (since I am using ajax). Here is the rundown news.xml <news>

Red Shield Environmental implements the PARCSuite system
<story>Add stuff here</story>

Catalyst Paper selects PARCSuite for its Mill-Wide Process...
<story>Add stuff here</story>

Weyerhaeuser uses Capstone Technology to provide Control...
<story>Add stuff here</story>
</news> Page sending del request: ... ... ... My functions protected void addEntry(string title, string story) { XmlDocument news = new XmlDocument(); news.Load(Server.MapPath("../news.xml")); XmlAttributeCollection ids = news.Attributes; //Create a new node XmlElement newelement = news.CreateElement("article"); XmlElement xmlTitle = news.CreateElement("title"); XmlElement xmlStory = news.CreateElement("story"); XmlAttribute id = ids[0]; int myId = int.Parse(id.Value + 1); id.Value = ""+myId; newelement.SetAttributeNode(id); xmlTitle.InnerText = this.TitleBox.Text.Trim(); xmlStory.InnerText = this.StoryBox.Text.Trim(); newelement.AppendChild(xmlTitle); newelement.AppendChild(xmlStory); news.DocumentElement.AppendChild(newelement); news.Save(Server.MapPath("../news.xml")); } protected void deleteEntry(int selectIndex) { XmlDocument news = new XmlDocument(); news.Load(Server.MapPath("../news.xml")); XmlNode xmlnode = news.DocumentElement.ChildNodes.Item(selectIndex); xmlnode.ParentNode.RemoveChild(xmlnode); news.Save(Server.MapPath("../news.xml")); } I haven't updated deleteEntry() and you can see, I was using the array index but need to delete the article element based on the article id being passed. And when adding an entry, I need to set the id to the last elements id + 1. Yes, I know SQL would be 100 times easier, but I don't have access so... help?

• JAX-WS MarshalException with custom JAX-B bindings: Unable to marshal type "java.lang.String" as an

- by MoneyMark
I seem to be having an issue with Jax-WS and Jax-b playing nicely together. I need to consume a web-service, which has a predefined WSDL. When executing the generated client I am receiving the following error: javax.xml.ws.WebServiceException: javax.xml.bind.MarshalException - with linked exception: [com.sun.istack.SAXException2: unable to marshal type "java.lang.String" as an element because it is missing an @XmlRootElement annotation] This started occurring when I used an external custom binding file to map needlessly complex types to java.lang.string. Here is an excerpt from my binding file: <bindings xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jaxb" version="2.0" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:wsdl="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/" xmlns:xjc="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jaxb/xjc"> <bindings schemaLocation="http://localhost:7777/GESOR/services/RegistryUpdatePort?wsdl#types?schema1" node="/xs:schema"> <bindings node="//xs:element[@name='StwrdCompany']//xs:complexType//xs:sequence//xs:element[@name='company_name']"> <property> <baseType name="java.lang.String" /> </property> </bindings> <bindings node="//xs:element[@name='StwrdCompany']//xs:complexType//xs:sequence//xs:element[@name='address1']"> <property> <baseType name="java.lang.String" /> </property> </bindings> <bindings node="//xs:element[@name='StwrdCompany']//xs:complexType//xs:sequence//xs:element[@name='address2']"> <property> <baseType name="java.lang.String" /> </property> </bindings> ...more fields </bindings> </bindings> When executing wsimport against the provided WSDL, StwrdCompany is generated with the following variables declared: @XmlRootElement(name = "StwrdCompany") public class StwrdCompany { @XmlElementRef(name = "company_name", type = JAXBElement.class) protected String companyName; @XmlElementRef(name = "address1", type = JAXBElement.class) protected String address1; @XmlElementRef(name = "address2", type = JAXBElement.class) ... more fields ... getters/setters @XmlAccessorType(XmlAccessType.FIELD) @XmlType(name = "", propOrder = { "value" }) public static class CompanyName { @XmlValue protected String value; @XmlAttribute protected Boolean updateToNULL; /** * Gets the value of the value property. * * @return * possible object is * {@link String } * */ public String getValue() { return value; } /** * Sets the value of the value property. * * @param value * allowed object is * {@link String } * */ public void setValue(String value) { this.value = value; } /** * Gets the value of the updateToNULL property. * * @return * possible object is * {@link Boolean } * */ public boolean isUpdateToNULL() { if (updateToNULL == null) { return false; } else { return updateToNULL; } } /** * Sets the value of the updateToNULL property. * * @param value * allowed object is * {@link Boolean } * */ public void setUpdateToNULL(Boolean value) { this.updateToNULL = value; } ... more inner classes } } Finally, here is the associated snippet from the WSDL that seems to be causing such grief. <xs:element name="StwrdCompany"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element maxOccurs="1" minOccurs="0" name="company_name" nillable="true"> <xs:complexType> <xs:simpleContent> <xs:extension base="xs:string"> <xs:attribute default="false" name="updateToNULL" type="xs:boolean"/> </xs:extension> </xs:simpleContent> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> <xs:element maxOccurs="1" minOccurs="0" name="address1" nillable="true"> <xs:complexType> <xs:simpleContent> <xs:extension base="xs:string"> <xs:attribute default="false" name="updateToNULL" type="xs:boolean"/> </xs:extension> </xs:simpleContent> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> ... more fields in the same format <xs:element maxOccurs="1" minOccurs="0" name="p_source_timestamp" nillable="false" type="xs:string"/> </xs:sequence> <xs:attribute name="company_xid" type="xs:string"/> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> The reason for the custom binding is so I can map user input from a pojo into the StwrdCompany object more easily, whether it be direct instantiation or through the use of Dozer for bean mapping. I was unable to successfully map between the objects without the custom binding. Finally, one other thing I tried was setting a globalBinding definition: <globalBindings generateValueClass="false"></globalBindings> This caused the server to through an argument mismatch exception since the Soap Message was using xs:string xml types instead of passing the defined complex types, so I abandoned that idea. Any insight into what is causing the MarshalException or how to go about solving the issue of calling the webservice and mapping these objects more easily, is greatly appreciated. I've been searching for days and I sadly think I am stumped.

• Namespaces and deserialization issue

- by CaffGeek
UPDATE: You can run the code at the end of this to recreate and see the error I am having and hopefully solve it! UPDATE2: It's not the removal of the xmlns="" that's the issue... as you can remove it from the initial xml string. The problem is with the [XmlType(TypeName = "Systems")] somehow causing it to be added... UPDATE3: Turns out the problem is in here, I need to set the TypeName based on what is in the existing, XmlTypeAttribute if it already exists on the class.... xmlAttributes.XmlType = new XmlTypeAttribute { Namespace = "" }; I get the following XML as a string from a webservice <Systems xmlns=""> <System id="1"> <sys_name>ALL</sys_name> </System> <System id="2"> <sys_name>asdfasdf</sys_name> </System> <System id="3"> <sys_name>fasdfasf</sys_name> </System> <System id="4"> <sys_name>asdfasdfasdf</sys_name> </System> </Systems> I then execute this, to convert it to an object result = XElement.Parse(xmlResult.OuterXml).Deserialize<AwayRequestSystems>(); Strangely though, in the Deserialize method, while the RemoveAllNamespaces works and returns the xml without the namespace I get the error <Systems xmlns=''> was not expected. in the catch when return (T) serializer.Deserialize(reader); executes! Why is it doing this? The xmlns is GONE!!! EXECUTABLE CODE! (Just put it in a test project) using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Diagnostics; using System.Linq; using System.Xml; using System.Xml.Linq; using Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting; using System.Xml.Serialization; namespace DeserializationTest { [TestClass] public class UnitTest1 { public TestContext TestContext { get; set; } [TestMethod] public void RemoveXmlnsFromSystems() { var xml = XElement.Parse(@"<Systems xmlns=""""> <System id=""1""> <sys_name>ALL</sys_name> </System> <System id=""2""> <sys_name>ePO</sys_name> </System> <System id=""3""> <sys_name>iEFT</sys_name> </System> <System id=""4""> <sys_name>Away Requests</sys_name> </System> <System id=""5""> <sys_name>RP3</sys_name> </System> </Systems>"); var systems = xml.Deserialize<AwayRequestSystems>(); Assert.IsInstanceOfType(systems, typeof(AwayRequestSystems)); var xmlnsFree = xml.RemoveAllNamespaces(); var str = xmlnsFree.ToString(); Debug.WriteLine(str); Assert.AreNotEqual("Error", xmlnsFree.Name.ToString(), "Serialization Error"); Assert.IsFalse(str.Contains("xmlns"), "Xmlns still exists"); } } [XmlType(TypeName = "Systems")] public class AwayRequestSystems : List<AwayRequestSystem> { } [XmlType(TypeName = "System")] public class AwayRequestSystem { [XmlAttribute("id")] public int ID { get; set; } [XmlElement("sys_name")] public string Name { get; set; } } public static class XmlSerializerFactory { private static Dictionary<Type, XmlSerializer> _serializers = new Dictionary<Type, XmlSerializer>(); public static void ResetCache() { _serializers = new Dictionary<Type, XmlSerializer>(); } public static XmlSerializer GetSerializerFor(Type typeOfT) { if (!_serializers.ContainsKey(typeOfT)) { var xmlAttributes = new XmlAttributes(); var xmlAttributeOverrides = new XmlAttributeOverrides(); Debug.WriteLine(string.Format("XmlSerializerFactory.GetSerializerFor(typeof({0}));", typeOfT)); xmlAttributes.XmlType = new XmlTypeAttribute { Namespace = "" }; xmlAttributes.Xmlns = false; var types = new List<Type> { typeOfT, typeOfT.BaseType }; foreach (var property in typeOfT.GetProperties()) { types.Add(property.PropertyType); } types.RemoveAll(t => t.ToString().StartsWith("System.")); foreach (var type in types) { if (xmlAttributeOverrides[type] == null) xmlAttributeOverrides.Add(type, xmlAttributes); } var newSerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeOfT, xmlAttributeOverrides); //var newSerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeOfT, xmlAttributeOverrides, types.ToArray(), new XmlRootAttribute(), string.Empty); //var newSerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeOfT, string.Empty); _serializers.Add(typeOfT, newSerializer); } return _serializers[typeOfT]; } } public static class XElementExtensions { public static XElement RemoveAllNamespaces(this XElement source) { if (source.HasAttributes) source.Attributes().Where(a => a.Name.LocalName.Equals("xmlns")).Remove(); return source.HasElements ? new XElement(source.Name.LocalName, source.Attributes()/*.Where(a => !a.Name.LocalName.Equals("xmlns"))*/, source.Elements().Select(el => RemoveAllNamespaces(el)) ) : new XElement(source.Name.LocalName) { Value = source.Value }; } } public static class SerializationExtensions { public static XElement Serialize(this object source) { try { var serializer = XmlSerializerFactory.GetSerializerFor(source.GetType()); var xdoc = new XDocument(); using (var writer = xdoc.CreateWriter()) { serializer.Serialize(writer, source, new XmlSerializerNamespaces(new[] { new XmlQualifiedName("", "") })); } var result = (xdoc.Document != null) ? xdoc.Document.Root : new XElement("Error", "Document Missing"); return result.RemoveAllNamespaces(); } catch (Exception x) { return new XElement("Error", x.ToString()); } } public static T Deserialize<T>(this XElement source) where T : class { //try //{ var serializer = XmlSerializerFactory.GetSerializerFor(typeof(T)); var cleanxml = source.RemoveAllNamespaces(); var reader = cleanxml.CreateReader(); return (T)serializer.Deserialize(reader); //} //catch (Exception x) //{ // return null; //} } } }
