  • how to filter data from xml file for displaying only selected as nodes in treeview

    - by michale
    I have an xml file named "books.xml" provided in the link "http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms762271(v=vs.85).aspx". What my requirement was to disaplay only the <title> from xml information as nodes in tree view. But when i did the following coding its displaying all the values as nodes like "catalog" as rootnode, book as parent node for all then author,title,genre etc as nodes but i want only root node catalogue and title as nodes not even book. Can any body guide me what modification i need to do in the exisitng logic for displaying title as nodes OpenFileDialog dlg = new OpenFileDialog(); dlg.Title = "Open XML document"; dlg.Filter = "XML Files (*.xml)|*.xml"; dlg.FileName = Application.StartupPath + "\\..\\..\\Sample.xml"; if (dlg.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) { try { //Just a good practice -- change the cursor to a //wait cursor while the nodes populate this.Cursor = Cursors.WaitCursor; //First, we'll load the Xml document XmlDocument xDoc = new XmlDocument(); xDoc.Load(dlg.FileName); //Now, clear out the treeview, //and add the first (root) node treeView1.Nodes.Clear(); treeView1.Nodes.Add(new TreeNode(xDoc.DocumentElement.Name)); TreeNode tNode = new TreeNode(); tNode = (TreeNode)treeView1.Nodes[0]; //We make a call to addTreeNode, //where we'll add all of our nodes addTreeNode(xDoc.DocumentElement, tNode); //Expand the treeview to show all nodes treeView1.ExpandAll(); } catch (XmlException xExc) //Exception is thrown is there is an error in the Xml { MessageBox.Show(xExc.Message); } catch (Exception ex) //General exception { MessageBox.Show(ex.Message); } finally { this.Cursor = Cursors.Default; //Change the cursor back } }} //This function is called recursively until all nodes are loaded private void addTreeNode(XmlNode xmlNode, TreeNode treeNode) { XmlNode xNode; TreeNode tNode; XmlNodeList xNodeList; if (xmlNode.HasChildNodes) //The current node has children { xNodeList = xmlNode.ChildNodes; for (int x = 0; x <= xNodeList.Count - 1; x++) //Loop through the child nodes { xNode = xmlNode.ChildNodes[x]; treeNode.Nodes.Add(new TreeNode(xNode.Name)); tNode = treeNode.Nodes[x]; addTreeNode(xNode, tNode); } } else //No children, so add the outer xml (trimming off whitespace) treeNode.Text = xmlNode.OuterXml.Trim(); }

  • Refactoring two methods down to one

    - by bflemi3
    I have two methods that almost do the same thing. They get a List<XmlNode> based on state OR state and schoolType and then return a distinct, ordered IEnumerable<KeyValuePair<string,string>>. I know they can be refactored but I'm struggling to determine what type the parameter should be for the linq statement in the return of the method (the last line of each method). I thank you for your help in advance. private IEnumerable<KeyValuePair<string, string>> getAreaDropDownDataSource() { StateInfoXmlDocument stateInfoXmlDocument = new StateInfoXmlDocument(); string schoolTypeXmlPath = string.Format(STATE_AND_SCHOOL_TYPE_XML_PATH, StateOfInterest, ConnectionsLearningSchoolType); var schoolNodes = new List<XmlNode>(stateInfoXmlDocument.SelectNodes(schoolTypeXmlPath).Cast<XmlNode>()); return schoolNodes.Select(x => new KeyValuePair<string, string>(x.Attributes["idLocation"].Value, x.Value)).OrderBy(x => x.Key).Distinct(); } private IEnumerable<KeyValuePair<string, string>> getStateOfInterestDropDownDataSource() { StateInfoXmlDocument stateInfoXmlDocument = new StateInfoXmlDocument(); string schoolTypeXmlPath = string.Format(SCHOOL_TYPE_XML_PATH, ConnectionsLearningSchoolType); var schoolNodes = new List<XmlNode>(stateInfoXmlDocument.SelectNodes(schoolTypeXmlPath).Cast<XmlNode>()); return schoolNodes.Select(x => new KeyValuePair<string, string>(x.Attributes["stateCode"].Value, x.Attributes["stateName"].Value)).OrderBy(x => x.Key).Distinct(); }

  • Series of abstract classes and NHibernate

    - by Chris Cowdery-Corvan
    Hello, and first off thanks for your time to look at this. For a research project I'm working on, I have a somewhat complex design (which I've been given) to persist to a database via NHibernate. Here's an example of the class hierarchy: TransitStrategy, TransportationCompany and TransportationLocation are all abstract classes. The XML configuration I have is presently: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <hibernate-mapping xmlns="urn:nhibernate-mapping-2.2" assembly="Vacationizer" namespace="Vacationizer.Domain.Transit"> <class name="TransitStrategy"> <id name="TransitStrategyId"> <generator class="guid" /> </id> <property name="Restrictions" /> <joined-subclass name="Flight" table="Flight_TransitStrategy"> <key column="TransitStrategyId" /> <property name="DepartingAirport" /> <property name="ArrivingAirport" /> <property name="Airline" /> <property name="FlightNumber" /> <property name="FlightArrivalTime" /> <property name="FlightDepartureTime" /> </joined-subclass> <joined-subclass name="RentalCar" table="RentalCar_TransitStrategy"> <key column="TransitStrategyId" /> <property name="RentalCarBranch" /> <property name="CarMake" /> <property name="CarModel" /> <property name="CarYear" /> <property name="CarColor" /> <property name="RentalBegins" /> <property name="RentalEnds" /> </joined-subclass> </class> <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <hibernate-mapping xmlns="urn:nhibernate-mapping-2.2" assembly="Vacationizer"   • Parse an XML file

    - by karan@dotnet
    The following code shows a simple method of parsing through an XML file/string. We can get the parent name, child name, attributes etc from the XML. The namespace System.Xml would be the only additional namespace that we would be using. string myXMl = "<Employees>" + "<Employee ID='1' Name='John Mayer'" + "Address='12th Street'" + "City='New York' Zip='10004'>" + "</Employee>" + "</Employees>"; XmlDocument xDoc = new XmlDocument();xDoc.LoadXml(myXMl);XmlNodeList xNodeList = xDoc.SelectNodes("Employees/child::node()");foreach (XmlNode xNode in xNodeList){ if (xNode.Name == "Employee") { string ID = xNode.Attributes["ID"].Value; //Outputs: 1 string Name = xNode.Attributes["Name"].Value;//Outputs: John Mayer string Address = xNode.Attributes["Address"].Value;//Outputs: 12th Street string City = xNode.Attributes["City"].Value;//Outputs: New York string Zip = xNode.Attributes["Zip"].Value; //Outputs: 10004 }} Lets look at another XML: string myXMl = "<root>" + "<parent1>..some data</parent1>" + "<parent2>" + "<Child1 id='1' name='Adam'>data1</Child1>" + "<Child2 id='2' name='Stanley'>data2</Child2>" + "</parent2>" + "</root>"; XmlDocument xDoc = new XmlDocument();xDoc.LoadXml(myXMl);XmlNodeList xNodeList = xDoc.SelectNodes("root/child::node()"); //Traverse the entire XML nodes.foreach (XmlNode xNode in xNodeList) { //Looks for any particular nodes if (xNode.Name == "parent1") { //some traversing.... } if (xNode.Name == "parent2") { //If the parent node has child nodes then //traverse the child nodes foreach (XmlNode xNode1 in xNode.ChildNodes) { string childNodeName = xNode1.Name; //Ouputs: Child1 string childNodeData = xNode1.InnerText; //Outputs: data1 //Loop through each attribute of the child nodes foreach (XmlAttribute xAtt in xNode1.Attributes) { string attrName = xAtt.Name; //Outputs: id string attrValue = xAtt.Value; //Outputs: 1 } } }}

  • Change xml attribute in foreach statement c#

    - by user1913479
    I need to save XML-attribute value in a database, using information if checkbox is checked. If checkbox is checked, the attribute value is "TRUE", otherwise it's false. When I use foreach statement, the last enumerated value is usually assigned. Here is the part of my code: XmlAttribute xmlAttribute = xmlDoc.CreateAttribute("BooleanValue"); foreach (string value in list) //list is a List<object> { XmlNode xmlNode = xmlDoc.CreateNode(XmlNodeType.Element, "VALUE", ""); if (checkBox1.Checked || checkBox2.Checked || checkBox3.Checked) xmlAttribute.Value = "TRUE"; if (!checkBox1.Checked || !checkBox2.Checked || !checkBox3.Checked) xmlAttribute.Value = "FALSE"; xmlNode.Attributes.Append(xmlAttribute); xmlNode.InnerText = val; childNode.AppendChild(xmlNode); } When I run my application, I get an XML attribute xmlAttribute "FALSE" value anyway. What I need to have: I need to have the following XML: <ROOT><NODE><VALUE ATTRIBUTE="TRUE">Value 1</VALUE></NODE> <NODE><VALUE ATTRIBUTE="TRUE">Value 2</VALUE></NODE> <NODE><VALUE ATTRIBUTE="FALSE">Value 3</VALUE></NODE> <NODE><VALUE ATTRIBUTE="FALSE">Value 4</VALUE></NODE> <NODE><VALUE ATTRIBUTE="TRUE">Value 5</VALUE></NODE> <NODE><VALUE ATTRIBUTE="FALSE">Value 6</VALUE></NODE> </ROOT> What I actually get: <ROOT><NODE><VALUE ATTRIBUTE="FALSE">Value 1</VALUE></NODE> <NODE><VALUE ATTRIBUTE="FALSE">Value 2</VALUE></NODE> <NODE><VALUE ATTRIBUTE="FALSE">Value 3</VALUE></NODE> <NODE><VALUE ATTRIBUTE="FALSE">Value 4</VALUE></NODE> <NODE><VALUE ATTRIBUTE="FALSE">Value 5</VALUE></NODE> <NODE><VALUE ATTRIBUTE="FALSE">Value 6</VALUE></NODE> </ROOT> Because in C# FALSE value is stayed at last position in foreach loop The question is: how do I do to assign the correct values of my attribute. Thanks

  • Sharepoint Lists.GetListItems Method rowLimit problem

    - by Linda
    In SharePoint I am using the default view of a list. When I use GetListItems method I can pass into it the following: public XmlNode GetListItems ( string listName, string viewName, XmlNode query, XmlNode viewFields, string rowLimit, XmlNode queryOptions, string webID ) I am passing in "" for the viewName and am passing a rowLimit of 1000. By Default view only returns 100 items. 100 Items are still being returned not 1000. Can you use the rowLimit when not specifying a view? Is it possible to bring back 1000 items using the query instead? I do not really want to use a GUID for the viewName as I would have to look it up for each list and perform a big refactor. Update I am now using the guid of the view and my list still returns the incorrect number of items. I know the guid is being used as I sued an incorrect one and it errord out. Any ideas what could be wrong? The code that is being sent to the service is as follows: <GetListItems xmlns='http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/'> <listName>Media Outlet</listName> <viewName>{2822F0D9-A905-44B5-8913-34E6497F1AAF}</viewName> <query><Query><Where><Eq><FieldRef Name='Outlet_x0020_Type' /><Value Type='Lookup'></Value></Eq></Where><OrderBy><FieldRef Name='Title' /></OrderBy></Query></query> <ViewFields></ViewFields> <RowLimit>10000</RowLimit> <QueryOptions></QueryOptions> <webID></webID> </GetListItems>

  • Threading calls to web service in a web service - (.net 2.0)

    - by Ryan Ternier
    Got a question regarding best practices for doing parallel web service calls, in a web service. Our portal will get a message, split that message into 2 messages, and then do 2 calls to our broker. These need to be on separate threads to lower the timeout. One solution is to do something similar to (pseudo code): XmlNode DNode = GetaGetDemoNodeSomehow(); XmlNode ENode = GetAGetElNodeSomehow(); XmlNode elResponse; XmlNode demResponse; Thread dThread = new Thread(delegate { //Web Service Call GetDemographics d = new GetDemographics(); demResponse = d.HIALRequest(DNode); }); Thread eThread = new Thread(delegate { //Web Service Call GetEligibility ge = new GetEligibility(); elResponse = ge.HIALRequest(ENode); }); dThread.Start(); eThread.Start(); dThread.Join(); eThread.Join(); //combine the resulting XML and return it. //Maybe throw a bit of logging in to make architecture happy Another option we thought of is to create a worker class, and pass it the service information and have it execute. This would allow us to have a bit more control over what is going on, but could add additional overhead. Another option brought up would be 2 asynchronous calls and manage the returns through a loop. When the calls are completed (success or error) the loop picks it up and ends. The portal service will be called about 50,000 times a day. I don't want to gold plate this sucker. I'm looking for something light weight. The services that are being called on the broker do have time out limits set, and are already heavily logged and audited, so I'm not worried on that part. This is .NET 2.0 , and as much as I would love to upgrade I can't right now. So please leave all the goodies of 2.0 out please.

  • How to parse app.config using ConfigurationManager?

    - by Amokrane
    I was using a certain method for parsing my app.config file. Then I was told that using ConfigurationManager is better and simpler. But the thing is I don't know how to do it with ConfigurationManager. My original code looked like this: XmlNode xmlProvidersNode; XmlNodeList xmlProvidersList; XmlNodeList xmlTaskFactoriesList; XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument(); xmlDoc.Load("app.config"); xmlProvidersNode = xmlDoc.DocumentElement.SelectSingleNode("TaskProviders"); xmlProvidersList = xmlProvidersNode.SelectNodes("TaskProvider"); foreach (XmlNode xmlProviderElement in xmlProvidersList) { if (xmlProviderElement.Attributes.GetNamedItem("Name").Value.Equals(_taskProvider)) { xmlTaskFactoriesList = xmlProviderElement.SelectNodes("TaskTypeFactory"); foreach (XmlNode xmlTaskFactoryElement in xmlTaskFactoriesList) { if (xmlTaskFactoryElement.Attributes.GetNamedItem("TaskType").Value.Equals(_taskType)) { taskTypeFactory = xmlTaskFactoryElement.Attributes.GetNamedItem("Class").Value; } } } } What would be the equivalent using ConfigurationManager? (Because all I can see is how to get keys not nodes..) Thanks

  • Flash: How to preload upcoming SWF while current one plays

    - by pthesis
    I have a Flash slideshow that plays SWFs listed in an XML file. I would like to have the upcoming SWF load while the current one displays. I've tried all sorts of combinations of LoadMovie and LoadMovieNum, including creating an empty movie clip, but there's something I'm just not getting. Right now, after making the first round through all the files, it transitions smoothly from slide to slide, but I'd like for it to preload so that it transitions without the "Loading..." screen the first time around. It can be viewed here: slideshow Where should I put the LoadMovie line to load the next file (image[p+1]), and how should it look? function loadXML(loaded) { if (loaded) { xmlNode = this.firstChild; image = []; description = []; total = xmlNode.childNodes.length; for (i=0; i<total; i++) { image[i] = xmlNode.childNodes[i].childNodes[0].firstChild.nodeValue; description[i] = xmlNode.childNodes[i].childNodes[1].firstChild.nodeValue; } firstImage(); } else { content = "file not loaded!"; } } xmlData = new XML(); xmlData.ignoreWhite = true; xmlData.onLoad = loadXML; xmlData.load("xmlfile.xml"); ///////////////////////////////////// back_btn.onRelease = function () { backImage(); }; next_btn.onRelease = function () { nextImage(); }; p = 0; function nextImage() { if (p<(total-1)) { p++; trace(this); _root.mc_loadfile.loadMovie (image[p]); _root.movie_name.text = image[p]; next_btn._visible = true; back_btn._visible = true; if (getBytesLoaded() == getBytesTotal()) slideshow(); } else if (p == (total-1)) { p = 0; firstImage(); } } function backImage() { clearInterval(myInterval); if (p>0) { --p; _root.mc_loadfile.loadMovie (image[p]); _root.movie_name.text = image[p]; next_btn._visible = true; if (p != 0) { back_btn._visible = true; } else { back_btn._visible = false; } slideshow(); } } I'd appreciate any help.

  • Unit testing class in a web service in .net

    - by Dan Bailiff
    After some digging here, I took the advice in this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/371961/how-to-unit-test-c-web-service-with-visual-studio-2008 I've created a separate class and my web service class is just a wrapper for that one. The problem is that when I try to create a unit test project in VS2008, it insists on creating a unit test that acts like I'm testing the web service calls instead of the class I specified. I can't get to the class I'm trying to test. I have a web service "subscription_api.asmx". The code behind is "subscription_api.cs" which contains the web method wrapper calls to the real code at "subscription.cs". I would expect to be able to do the following: [TestMethod()] public void GetSystemStatusTest() { subscription sub = new subscription(); XmlNode node = sub.GetSystemStatusTest(); Assert.IsNotNull(node); } But instead I get this mess which is autogenerated from VS'08: /// <summary> ///A test for GetSystemStatus ///</summary> // TODO: Ensure that the UrlToTest attribute specifies a URL to an ASP.NET page (for example, // http://.../Default.aspx). This is necessary for the unit test to be executed on the web server, // whether you are testing a page, web service, or a WCF service. [TestMethod()] [HostType("ASP.NET")] [AspNetDevelopmentServerHost("C:\\CVSROOT\\rnr\\pro\\product\\wms\\ss\\subscription_api", "/subscription_api")] [UrlToTest("http://localhost/subscription_api")] public void GetSystemStatusTest() { subscription_Accessor target = new subscription_Accessor(); // TODO: Initialize to an appropriate value XmlNode expected = null; // TODO: Initialize to an appropriate value XmlNode actual; actual = target.GetSystemStatus(); Assert.AreEqual(expected, actual); Assert.Inconclusive("Verify the correctness of this test method."); } Additionally, there is a "subscription_api.accessor" in the Test References folder. When I try this: [TestMethod()] public void GetSystemStatusTest2() { subscription_Accessor sub = new subscription_Accessor(); XmlNode node = sub.GetSystemStatus(); Assert.IsNotNull(node); } I get an error: Test method subscription_api.Test.subscriptionTest.GetSystemStatusTest2 threw exception: System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'subscription_Accessor' threw an exception. ---> System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. I'm really new to unit testing and feel lost. How can I create a unit test just for my subscription class in "subscription.cs" without testing the web service? Am I limited to testing within the same project (I hope not)? Do I have to put the target class in its own project outside of the web service project?

  • Doing CRUD on XML using id attributes in C# ASP.NET

    - by Brandon G
    I'm a LAMP guy and ended up working this small news module for an asp.net site, which I am having some difficulty with. I basically am adding and deleting elements via AJAX based on the id. Before, I had it working based on the the index of a set of elements, but would have issues deleting, since the index would change in the xml file and not on the page (since I am using ajax). Here is the rundown news.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <news> <article id="1"> <title>Red Shield Environmental implements the PARCSuite system</title> <story>Add stuff here</story> </article> <article id="2"> <title>Catalyst Paper selects PARCSuite for its Mill-Wide Process...</title> <story>Add stuff here</story> </article> <article id="3"> <title>Weyerhaeuser uses Capstone Technology to provide Control...</title> <story>Add stuff here</story> </article> </news> Page sending del request: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('.del').click(function () { var obj = $(this); var id = obj.attr('rel'); $.post('add-news-item.aspx', { id: id }, function () { obj.parent().next().remove(); obj.parent().remove(); } ); }); }); </script> <a class="del" rel="1">...</a> <a class="del" rel="1">...</a> <a class="del" rel="1">...</a> My functions protected void addEntry(string title, string story) { XmlDocument news = new XmlDocument(); news.Load(Server.MapPath("../news.xml")); XmlAttributeCollection ids = news.Attributes; //Create a new node XmlElement newelement = news.CreateElement("article"); XmlElement xmlTitle = news.CreateElement("title"); XmlElement xmlStory = news.CreateElement("story"); XmlAttribute id = ids[0]; int myId = int.Parse(id.Value + 1); id.Value = ""+myId; newelement.SetAttributeNode(id); xmlTitle.InnerText = this.TitleBox.Text.Trim(); xmlStory.InnerText = this.StoryBox.Text.Trim(); newelement.AppendChild(xmlTitle); newelement.AppendChild(xmlStory); news.DocumentElement.AppendChild(newelement); news.Save(Server.MapPath("../news.xml")); } protected void deleteEntry(int selectIndex) { XmlDocument news = new XmlDocument(); news.Load(Server.MapPath("../news.xml")); XmlNode xmlnode = news.DocumentElement.ChildNodes.Item(selectIndex); xmlnode.ParentNode.RemoveChild(xmlnode); news.Save(Server.MapPath("../news.xml")); } I haven't updated deleteEntry() and you can see, I was using the array index but need to delete the article element based on the article id being passed. And when adding an entry, I need to set the id to the last elements id + 1. Yes, I know SQL would be 100 times easier, but I don't have access so... help?

Thoughts? -- EDIT -- After playing with it a bit, I would think it has something to do with referencing the projects. I'm already referencing the TiledLib within my main windows project (TiledTest). However, this doesn't seem to make a difference. I can place the dll generated from the TiledLib project into the debug folder of TiledTest, and this causes it to generate a different error: Error loading "desert". • How to Deserialize XMLDocument to object in C#?

    - by Deepfreezed
    I have a .Net webserivce that accepts XML in string format. XML String sent into the webserivce can represent any Object in the system. I need to check the first node to figure out what object to deserialize the XML string. For this I will have to load the XML into an XMLDocument (Don't want to use RegEx or string compare). I am wondering if there is a way to Deserialize the XMLDocument/XMLNode rather that deserializing the string to save some performance? Is there going to be any performance benefit serializing the XMLNode rather that the string? Method to Load XMLDocument public void LoadFromString(String s) { m_XmlDoc = new XmlDocument(); m_XmlDoc.LoadXml(s); } Thanks

  • Sharepoint listsService.updateList method clarification

    - by cyrix86
    I've seen an example here: msdn but it's a little confusing. So if I have a list definition with a field called "CustomField" and I want to update the "ShowField" attribute of this field to be true then I would do this: XmlNode listNode = listService.GetList("MyList"); string version = listNode.Attributes["Version"].Value; string guid = listNode.Attributes["Name"].Value; XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument(); XmlElement updateFields = xmlDoc.CreateElement("Fields"); string fieldXml = @"<Method ID="1"><Field Name="CustomField" ShowField="true" /></Method>"; updateFields.InnerXml = fieldXml; XmlNode result = listService.UpdateList(guid, null, null, updateFields, null, version); I'm confused because it would seem that you would need to provide a field element to indicate what field to update and then a value element to specify the new value. Could someone clarify this please?

Code is below. • Search for nodes by name in XmlDocument

    I'm trying to find a node by name in an XmlDocument with the following code: private XmlNode FindNode(XmlNodeList list, string nodeName) { if (list.Count > 0) { foreach (XmlNode node in list) { if (node.Name.Equals(nodeName)) return node; if (node.HasChildNodes) FindNode(node.ChildNodes, nodeName); } } return null; } I call the function with: FindNode(xmlDocument.ChildNodes, "somestring"); For some reason it always returns null and I'm not really sure why. Can someone help me out with this?

  • SSIS: Deploying OLAP cubes using C# script tasks and AMO

    - by DrJohn
    As part of the continuing series on Building dynamic OLAP data marts on-the-fly, this blog entry will focus on how to automate the deployment of OLAP cubes using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and Analysis Services Management Objects (AMO). OLAP cube deployment is usually done using the Analysis Services Deployment Wizard. However, this option was dismissed for a variety of reasons. Firstly, invoking external processes from SSIS is fraught with problems as (a) it is not always possible to ensure SSIS waits for the external program to terminate; (b) we cannot log the outcome properly and (c) it is not always possible to control the server's configuration to ensure the executable works correctly. Another reason for rejecting the Deployment Wizard is that it requires the 'answers' to be written into four XML files. These XML files record the three things we need to change: the name of the server, the name of the OLAP database and the connection string to the data mart. Although it would be reasonably straight forward to change the content of the XML files programmatically, this adds another set of complication and level of obscurity to the overall process. When I first investigated the possibility of using C# to deploy a cube, I was surprised to find that there are no other blog entries about the topic. I can only assume everyone else is happy with the Deployment Wizard! SSIS "forgets" assembly references If you build your script task from scratch, you will have to remember how to overcome one of the major annoyances of working with SSIS script tasks: the forgetful nature of SSIS when it comes to assembly references. Basically, you can go through the process of adding an assembly reference using the Add Reference dialog, but when you close the script window, SSIS "forgets" the assembly reference so the script will not compile. After repeating the operation several times, you will find that SSIS only remembers the assembly reference when you specifically press the Save All icon in the script window. This problem is not unique to the AMO assembly and has certainly been a "feature" since SQL Server 2005, so I am not amazed it is still present in SQL Server 2008 R2! Sample Package So let's take a look at the sample SSIS package I have provided which can be downloaded from here: DeployOlapCubeExample.zip  Below is a screenshot after a successful run. Connection Managers The package has three connection managers: AsDatabaseDefinitionFile is a file connection manager pointing to the .asdatabase file you wish to deploy. Note that this can be found in the bin directory of you OLAP database project once you have clicked the "Build" button in Visual Studio TargetOlapServerCS is an Analysis Services connection manager which identifies both the deployment server and the target database name. SourceDataMart is an OLEDB connection manager pointing to the data mart which is to act as the source of data for your cube. This will be used to replace the connection string found in your .asdatabase file Once you have configured the connection managers, the sample should run and deploy your OLAP database in a few seconds. Of course, in a production environment, these connection managers would be associated with package configurations or set at runtime. When you run the sample, you should see that the script logs its activity to the output screen (see screenshot above). If you configure logging for the package, then these messages will also appear in your SSIS logging. Sample Code Walkthrough Next let's walk through the code. The first step is to parse the connection string provided by the TargetOlapServerCS connection manager and obtain the name of both the target OLAP server and also the name of the OLAP database. Note that the target database does not have to exist to be referenced in an AS connection manager, so I am using this as a convenient way to define both properties. We now connect to the server and check for the existence of the OLAP database. If it exists, we drop the database so we can re-deploy. svr.Connect(olapServerName); if (svr.Connected) { // Drop the OLAP database if it already exists Database db = svr.Databases.FindByName(olapDatabaseName); if (db != null) { db.Drop(); } // rest of script } Next we start building the XMLA command that will actually perform the deployment. Basically this is a small chuck of XML which we need to wrap around the large .asdatabase file generated by the Visual Studio build process. // Start generating the main part of the XMLA command XmlDocument xmlaCommand = new XmlDocument(); xmlaCommand.LoadXml(string.Format("<Batch Transaction='false' xmlns='http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2003/engine'><Alter AllowCreate='true' ObjectExpansion='ExpandFull'><Object><DatabaseID>{0}</DatabaseID></Object><ObjectDefinition/></Alter></Batch>", olapDatabaseName));  Next we need to merge two XML files which we can do by simply using setting the InnerXml property of the ObjectDefinition node as follows: // load OLAP Database definition from .asdatabase file identified by connection manager XmlDocument olapCubeDef = new XmlDocument(); olapCubeDef.Load(Dts.Connections["AsDatabaseDefinitionFile"].ConnectionString); // merge the two XML files by obtain a reference to the ObjectDefinition node oaRootNode.InnerXml = olapCubeDef.InnerXml;   One hurdle I had to overcome was removing detritus from the .asdabase file left by the Visual Studio build. Through an iterative process, I found I needed to remove several nodes as they caused the deployment to fail. The XMLA error message read "Cannot set read-only node: CreatedTimestamp" or similar. In comparing the XMLA generated with by the Deployment Wizard with that generated by my code, these read-only nodes were missing, so clearly I just needed to strip them out. This was easily achieved using XPath to find the relevant XML nodes, of which I show one example below: foreach (XmlNode node in rootNode.SelectNodes("//ns1:CreatedTimestamp", nsManager)) { node.ParentNode.RemoveChild(node); } Now we need to change the database name in both the ID and Name nodes using code such as: XmlNode databaseID = xmlaCommand.SelectSingleNode("//ns1:Database/ns1:ID", nsManager); if (databaseID != null) databaseID.InnerText = olapDatabaseName; Finally we need to change the connection string to point at the relevant data mart. Again this is easily achieved using XPath to search for the relevant nodes and then replace the content of the node with the new name or connection string. XmlNode connectionStringNode = xmlaCommand.SelectSingleNode("//ns1:DataSources/ns1:DataSource/ns1:ConnectionString", nsManager); if (connectionStringNode != null) { connectionStringNode.InnerText = Dts.Connections["SourceDataMart"].ConnectionString; } Finally we need to perform the deployment using the Execute XMLA command and check the returned XmlaResultCollection for errors before setting the Dts.TaskResult. XmlaResultCollection oResults = svr.Execute(xmlaCommand.InnerXml);  // check for errors during deployment foreach (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.XmlaResult oResult in oResults) { foreach (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.XmlaMessage oMessage in oResult.Messages) { if ((oMessage.GetType().Name == "XmlaError")) { FireError(oMessage.Description); HadError = true; } } } If you are not familiar with XML programming, all this may all seem a bit daunting, but perceiver as the sample code is pretty short. If you would like the script to process the OLAP database, simply uncomment the lines in the vicinity of Process method. Of course, you can extend the script to perform your own custom processing and to even synchronize the database to a front-end server. Personally, I like to keep the deployment and processing separate as the code can become overly complex for support staff.If you want to know more, come see my session at the forthcoming SQLBits conference.

  • CCNet 1.6 Conditional Plugin Help Needed!

    - by Mike M
    Hi all, I cannot get the conditional plugin to work that has been added to CCNet as of version 1.6 - clicky. I am running the latest version of CCNet (1.6.7258.1) and have the following code in my ccnet.config: <project name="9iCompile"> <sourcecontrol type="svn"> <trunkUrl>http://bis-build:81/svn/Oracle/oas_forms/COPEN</trunkUrl> <workingDirectory>C:\OAS\COPEN</workingDirectory> <username>*</username> <password>*</password> <executable>C:\Program Files\VisualSVN\bin\svn.exe</executable> </sourcecontrol> <conditional> <conditions> <compareCondition> <value1>$[ProjectType]</value1> <value2>copen</value2> <evaluation>equal</evaluation> <ignoreCase>true</ignoreCase> </compareCondition> </conditions> <tasks> <nant> <executable>C:\Program Files\nant-0.85\bin\nant.exe</executable> <baseDirectory>C:\OAS</baseDirectory> <buildFile>Oracle9i_Automation_v2.build</buildFile> <targetList> <target>build</target> </targetList> </nant> </tasks> </conditional> <!-- more conditional statements would be here for different project types if I can get it to work --> <parameters> <selectParameter name="ProjectType"> <description>The type of project to operate on.</description> <allowedValues> <value name="COPEN">copen</value> <value name="BCS">bcs</value> <value name="FCDD">fcdd</value> </allowedValues> </parameters> <security type="defaultProjectSecurity" defaultRight="Deny"> <permissions> <rolePermission name="Developers" ref="Developers"/> <rolePermission name="Accepters" ref="Accepters"/> <rolePermission name="Releasers" ref="Releasers"/> <rolePermission name="Administrators" ref="Administrators"/> </permissions> </security> </project> The CCNet server crashes whenever I try to run this config though with the following output: [14:ERROR] Exception: Unused node detected: <conditional> <conditions> <compareCondition> <value1>$[ProjectType]</value1> <value2>copen</value2> <evaluation>equal</evaluation> <ignoreCase>true</ignoreCase> </compareCondition> </conditions> <tasks> <nant> <executable>C:\Program Files\nant-0.85\bin\nant.exe</executable> <baseDirectory>C:\OAS</baseDirectory> <buildFile>Oracle9i_Automation_v2.build</buildFile> <targetList> <target>build</target> </targetList> </nant> </tasks> </conditional> ---------- ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.Config.ConfigurationException: Unused node detected: <conditional> <conditions> <compareCondition> <value1>$[ProjectType]</value1> <value2>copen</value2> <evaluation>equal</evaluation> <ignoreCase>true</ignoreCase> </compareCondition> </conditions> <tasks> <nant> <executable>C:\Program Files\nant-0.85\bin\nant.exe</executable> <baseDirectory>C:\OAS</baseDirectory> <buildFile>Oracle9i_Automation_v2.build</buildFile> <targetList> <target>build</target> </targetList> </nant> </tasks> </conditional> at ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.Config.NetReflectorConfigurationReader.DefaultErrorProcesser.ProcessError(String message) at ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.Config.NetReflectorConfigurationReader.<>c__DisplayClass1.<Read>b__0(InvalidNodeEventArgs args) at Exortech.NetReflector.InvalidNodeEventHandler.Invoke(InvalidNodeEventArgsargs) at Exortech.NetReflector.NetReflectorTypeTable.OnInvalidNode(InvalidNodeEventArgs args) at Exortech.NetReflector.XmlTypeSerialiser.HandleUnusedNode(NetReflectorTypeTable table, XmlNode orphan) at Exortech.NetReflector.XmlTypeSerialiser.ReadMembers(XmlNode node, Object instance, NetReflectorTypeTable table) at Exortech.NetReflector.XmlTypeSerialiser.Read(XmlNode node, NetReflectorTypeTable table) at Exortech.NetReflector.NetReflectorReader.Read(XmlNode node) at ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.Config.NetReflectorConfigurationReader.Read(XmlDocument document, IConfigurationErrorProcesser errorProcesser) at ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.Config.DefaultConfigurationFileLoader.Load(FileInfo configFile) at ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.Config.FileConfigurationService.Load() at ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.Config.FileWatcherConfigurationService.Load() at ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.Config.CachingConfigurationService.Load() at ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.CruiseServer.Restart() at ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.Config.ConfigurationUpdateHandler.Invoke() at ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.Config.FileWatcherConfigurationService.HandleConfigurationFileChanged(Object source, FileSystemEventArgs args) ---------- Can someone please help??
