I am trying to create a download client using Java, and I have figured out how to download files with Java, but I want to accelerate the download speed. I know how this works (opening several connections to the download server), but how can I achieve this? I am looking for either some detailed explanation of such an algorithm or some code examples.

  • Add directories to root of Zip folder Ionic Zip c#

    I asked this a few months ago, and only received one response which didn't work. I've been tinkering with it for the past few weeks, and I'm still completely lost, so I would appreciate anyone else's input as I'm all out of ideas. what I'm trying to do is add a list of folders and files all to the root of my Zip file, using the Ionic Zip library (c#).   • How is it that during extraction of a zip, I get two files of the same name in the same path?

    I'm extracting a zip (self-extracting, but that probably doesn't matter) and for a few files I'm getting a dialog asking me if I want to replace a file that was already extracted with a file that's just about to be extracted. At first glance I didn't understand how a zip could contain the same file in the same place more than once. I then browsed to the file in question using 7zip (or any tool) and found this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/46007162@N03/5278220416/ The difference is in the block number. What's actually happening here?

    Helo I installed MAMP PRO on my Macbook Pro (10.6) some time ago. Now I would like to use zip functions in php. I found that I must add zip.so to my extension folder and edited php.ini. On my computer I have two different versions of PHP one in MAMP folder and other in user/lib which was pre-installed on my system. Now I wish to compile my zip library for MAMP version. I got zip sources for my version of PHP then in terminal called function /Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/bin/phpize so it uses mamp php version ./configure make then I moved compile zip.so to extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613. When MAMP is launched it returns this error: [11-Apr-2010 16:33:27] PHP Warning: PHP Startup: zip: Unable to initialize module Module compiled with module API=20090626, debug=0, thread-safety=0 PHP compiled with module API=20060613, debug=0, thread-safety=0 These options need to match in Unknown on line 0 Can some body explain to me how to do this the right way.

  • Avoid unwanted path in Zip file

    I'm making a shell script to package some files. I'm zipping a directory like this: zip -r /Users/me/development/something/out.zip /Users/me/development/something/folder/ The problem is that the resultant out.zip archive has the entire file path in it. That is, when unzipped, it will have the whole "/Users/me/development/anotherthing/" path in it. Is it possible to avoid these deep paths when putting a directory into an archive? When I run zip from inside the target directory, I don't have this problem. zip -r out.zip ./folder/ In this case, I don't get all the junk. However, the script in question will be called from wherever. FWIW, I'm using bash on Mac OS X 10.6.

  • How to download an MP3 or ZIP file onto mobile devices

    I want to be able to download digital goods to smartphone users (music in format .mp3 or .zip). But iPhone and iPad do not allow direct forced downloads. How can I provide mobile users with digital downloads? I use PHP. The only way I can think of to do this is to use the Dropbox Web API to transfer files to the user's Dropbox account, which then synchronizes with their mobile device. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

  • How to make 7-Zip faster

    I normally use WinRAR over 7-Zip simply because it's faster and only a little less efficient with compression. I did a few tests on different filetypes and sizes comparing the 7-Zip and WinRAR default settings on their normal compression and their best compression, and in a lot of cases WinRAR was 50% faster and in some it was actually 100% faster. But, I do like FOSS more. So here are my questions: Is there a way to make 7-Zip speed up? I'd like it to at least be on par with WinRAR's speed Is there a way to make recovery segments in 7-Zip like you can in WinRAR? I didn't see any, but I guess it could be a command line thing. I tested WinRAR and 7-Zip using the latest stable version of each (4-dot-something with 7-Zip). Is the 9.x beta release noticeably faster at compression? I'm talking about faster at a comparable setting in WinRAR, not just lowering to bare minimum compression. If it matters, I use a quad core Intel i7 720 (1.6 GHz)/(2.8 GHz) with 4 GB DDR3 RAM, and the 64-bit version of 7-Zip, and dual-boot Debian x64 5.0.4 and Windows 7 Home.

Now I want this process to be done using a progress bar (so when the download progress is at 50% the progress bar is half-way through).   • Compressing with RAR vs ZIP

    A lot of people are compressing files with RAR, sending compressed files with RAR and so on. ZIP is more standard and works on all platforms. Windows users have ZIP included and linux users have no trouble with that file format. The tests I did sometime ago showed me that RAR compress better (some KyloBytes, no more) but not enough to use a non-free software when ZIP works on almost all the computers for free. Why do some people use RAR rather than ZIP for compressing?

  • Create a zip file that doesn't create a folder when opened, Mac OS X

    I am wondering if there is any way of easily creating a zip file that contains a bunch of files. However, when I double-click to open this zip file, I do not want it to create a subdirectory with the same name as the zip file, I just want all of the files to be extracted into the directory where the zip files is stored. Is there a certain flag I can add in terminal to do this, or any program that does this. Thanks for your help!

    I have two zip archives. Say, set1 has 10 csv files created using Mac OS X 10.5.8 compress option, and set2 has 4 csv files similarly created. I want to take the 4 files from zipped archive set2 and add them to list of files in archive set1. Is there a way I can do that? I tried the following in Terminal: zip set1.zip set2.zip This adds the whole archive set2.zip to set1.zip, i.e., in set1.zip now I have: file1.csv, file2.csv,..., file10.csv, set2.zip What I instead want is: file1.csv, file2.csv,..., file10.csv, file11.csv, ..., file14.csv where, set2.zip is the archive containing file11.csv, ..., file14.csv.     I use zip to do a regular backup of a local directory onto a remote machine. They don't believe in things like rsync here, so it's the best I can do (?). Here's the script I use echo $(date)>>~/backuplog.txt; if [[ -e /Volumes/backup/ ]]; then cd /Volumes/Non-RAID_Storage/; for file in projects/*; do nice -n 10 zip -vru9 /Volumes/backup/nonRaidStorage.backup.zip "$file" 2>&1 | grep -v "zip info: local extra (21 bytes)">>~/backuplog.txt; done; else echo "backup volume not mounted">>~/backuplog.txt; fi this all works fine, except that zip never uses much CPU, so it seems to be taking longer than it should. It never seems to get above 5%. I tried making it nice -20 but that didn't make any difference. Is it just the network or disc speeds bottlenecking the process or am I doing something wrong?

  • Download acceleration with jigdo?

    Im using jigdo-lite to download a Debian DVD ISO. I already have the CD version of the image, so I added the CD files to the task. Now I need to download many files (not all) of the DVD ISO. The default jigdo-lite uses wget to download files. It seems jigdo (wget) downloads only one file at a time with one connection. So I'm getting a low download speed. How can I accelerate the download speed using jigdo? Possible Solutions: Using different download manager with jigdo. Is it possible? If yes, How? Using jigdo (wget) to download multiple files at once. How? Getting download links of remaining files to download so that they can be downloaded with a download manager and later added to jigdo iso. How?

I can clearly see there can be many reasons for why one wants the documentation to be available offline. The reasons can be anything but not limited to Company Firewall No Internet (power failure, on road or disaster) Internet Bandwidth Limitatoin Company Proxy Issues … and much more… In this kind of situation one needs documentation which is offline and easily available in local computer. The Microsoft SQL Server 2012 setup installs only the Help Viewer and related components for managing Help settings. Setup does not directly install any documentation. All of the SQL Server documentation is available online. Well, Microsoft has recently released Production Documentation available for offline users as well. You just have to download the executable file and follow all the instructions.
