  • Moving a body in a specific direction using XNA with Farseer Physics

    I have a custom polygon attached to a body, which looks like this: What I am trying to accomplish is getting the body to move according to wherever the tip of the body is. So far this is what I've tried: if (ks.IsKeyDown(Keys.Up)) { body.ApplyForce(new Vector2(0, -20),body.GetLocalPoint(new Vector2(0,0))); } if (ks.IsKeyDown(Keys.Left)) { body.ApplyTorque(-500); } if (ks.IsKeyDown(Keys.Right)) { body.ApplyTorque(500); } The body rotates fine - but when I try making the body accelerate according to the tip of the body - assuming I have specified the tip correctly(I am pretty sure I haven't), it just spins around, as if I have applied Torque to it. Can anyone point me in the right direction of how to fix this problem?

    Why is nesting or piggybacking errors within errors bad in general? To me it seems bad intuitively, but I'm suspicious in that I cannot adequately articulate why it is bad. This may be because it is not in general bad and that it is only bad in specific instances. Why is it detrimental to design error/exception handling in such a way. The specific instance is that of a REST service. There is a desire by some to use http errors (specifically the 500 response) as a way to indicate any problem with specific instances of a resource. An example of an instance resource in this case would be: http://server/ticket/80 # instance http://server/ticket # not an instance So this is the behavior that is being proposed. If ticket 80 does not exist return a http response code of 500. Within the body of the error return the "real" error as an additional error code and description. If the ticket resource doesn't exist return a response code of 404.

  • CentOS - Configuring Puppet to play nice with SELinux

    I am running into an issue every time I attempt to start the puppetmasterd service, for which I receive the following error message: root@service1 ~ # -> /etc/init.d/puppetmaster start Starting puppetmaster: Could not prepare for execution: Got 1 failure(s) while initializing: change from absent to directory failed: Could not set 'directory on ensure: Permission denied - /etc/puppet/ssl [FAILED] Apparently there was a known issue with this scenario as outlined in this bug report, however in the bug report it states the issue has been resolved in selinux-policy-3.9.16-29.fc15, but the latest CentOS default upstream version is 3.7.19-155.el6_3.4. So I am trying to figure out the best solution. I can either create a local security policy to allow puppetmasterd the access it needs, or keep researching and install a newer version of selinux-policy outside of the default upstream channel. Anyone have any recommendations?     I want to implement a rewrite rule in my .htaccess file to show a specific url as a directory of my server. See the code below I written, RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ ?page=$1 [NC] This will rewrites urls like www.mysite.com/abc/ to www.mysite.com/index.php?page=abc. But if I request www.mysite.com/abc then it is throwing an 404 error. How can I write a rewrite rule which will match www.mysite.com/abc and www.mysite.com/abc/ both?     I am using VB.net to write a parallel based code. I use Parallel.For to generate pairs of 500 objects or in combination C(500,2) such as the following code; but I found that it didn't always generate all combinations which should be 124750 (shown from variable Counter). No other thread was runing when this code was run. I am using a Win-7 32 Bit desktop with Intel Core i5 CPU [email protected], 3.33 GHz and RAM 2GB.   • No HDD shows up during install 12.04 on Lenovo U410

    I tried installing Ubuntu 12.04 on my Lenovo U410 laptop. When I launch installation no partitions shows up. The U410 has 2 HDDs. 32 GB SSD on /dev/sda and a 500 HDD on /dev/sdb Ideally I would like to install Ubuntu on the 32GB SSD and keep Windows on the 500 GB one and not use the Intel Smart Response Technolog. I'm ok with flashing my drive and starting from scratch with this. Or do you'll have any better suggestions on how to go about partitioning my drive and how to do it?

    I'm trying to install Socialengine (clean install, empty database, legal license key), but I ran into this error message at Step 3 of the installation: Step 3: Setup MySQL Database Mysqli statement execute error : Prepared statement needs to be re-prepared I found a troubleshooting artice about "Bug in MySQLi Extension Causes Apache 500 Error" at http://www.socialengine.net/blog/article?id=161&article=Bug-in-MySQLi-Extension-Causes-Apache-500-Error I uploaded the fixed file and try to install again, but it still doesn't work. It terminates at Step 3 again with the same error message. I would be very grateful if you could help me. Thanks.

  • Response: Agile's Second Chasm

    William Pietri over at Agile Focus has written an interesting article entitled, "Agile’s Second Chasm (and how we fell in)" in which he talks about how agile development has fallen into a common trap where large companies are now spending a lot of money hiring agile (Scrum) consultants just so that they can say they are agile, but all the while avoiding any change that is required by Scrum.   It echoes the questions that I've been asking for a while, "Can a fortune 500 company actually do agile development?"  I'm starting to think that the answer is "usually not"   William ask 3 questions at the end of his article that I will answer here.   1) Have I seen agile development brought in and then preemptively customized (read: made into ScrummerFall)?   Yes, Scrum is hard and disruptive.  It's a spotlight on company dysfunction.  In a low trust environment like most fortune 500 companies Scrum will be subverted by anyone who has ever seen "transparency" translate into someone being laid off.   2) If I had to do it all over again, would I change anything?  No, this is a natural progression, but the agile principles are powerful enough, that the companies that don't adopt them will no longer be competitive and will start to fail.   3) Is this situation solvable?  I think it is.  I think that one of the issues is that you often see companies implementing Scrum, but avoiding the agile engineering practices.  I believe that you cannot do one without the other.  Scrum keeps the ship sailing in smooth deep waters.  The agile engineering practices keep the engine running smoothly and cleanly.  If you implement agile engineering practices without Scrum, you run the risk of ending up with a great running piece of software that is useful to no one.  On the other hand, implementing cargo-cult Scrum without the agile engineering practices and you end up (especially in a fortune 500 company) being steered in the right direction, but with your development practices coming to a dead halt because you have code that can not keep up with the changes in requirements.   If you are trying to do Scrum, make sure that you hire some agile engineering coaches, or else you may find your deveolpment engines grinding to a dead halt in the middle of the open ocean.

Here is an example: http://www.comehike.com/outdoors/widget.php?type=hike&hike_id=108&width=500&height=500 I guess since the widget would link back to me, it would be an SEO boost for my site. Is that correct? Or would it be just an SEO boost for that particular URL? If it is just an SEO boost for the particular URL, it does me little good since that page does not link to any of my other pages. Am I thinking about this correctly? How are these things typically handled so that there is a benefit to my site's SEO?

    I want to draw many polygons to the screen but i'm quickly noticing that it slows down quickly. I can't upload them directly to the card because my program will allow the user to reshape the verticies. My question is, how can I speed this up. I'm not using depth. I also know it's not my GetCamera() functions because if I create 500,000 polygons spread apart t's fine, it just has trouble showing them in the view. If a graphics card can support 500,000,000 on screen polygons per second, this should be easy right? Thanks

    I am trying to get ldaps to work through Apache 2.2.17 (Windows Server 2008). If I use ldap (plain text) my configuration works great. Finally, I also needed this with Apache tomcat. For tomcat I used the tomcat JRE and ran a line like this: keytool -import -trustcacerts -keystore cacerts -storepass changeit -noprompt -alias mycert -file Trusted_Root_Certificate.cer After doing the above line ldaps worked greate via tomcat. This lets me know that my certificate is a-ok. Update: Both ldap modules are turned on, since using ldap instead of ldaps works fine. When I run a git clone this is the error returned: C:\Tempgit clone http://eqb9718@localhost/git/Liferay.git Cloning into Liferay... Is there any more verbose logging I can turn on or better tests to do?

  • Exim and receiving email with large recipient lists

    I have Exim4 running on Debian configured to receive mail on multiple domains. Exim is set to forward all email that is received to one of the domains to another box. This box is configured with a catchall mailbox that everything goes in. My issue is that when an email is sent to the domain, which contains a large amount of addresses (all to the same domain, but different users), Exim will receive the single email over multiple connections. This means that the catchall mailbox receives multiple copies of the single email all containing the full recipient list. For example, I was able to reproduce it by sending an email from my gmail account that contained 500 recipients (eg [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; etc. for a total of 500). Exim received the message as 20 messages (25 recipients per; appears to be a gmail server setting). So the catchall mailbox received 20 messages, each containing all 500 addresses. I'm pretty sure I understand why this is happening but is there any way I can configure Exim to only receive it once, or to combine it into one? Is there anything that can be done on my end, or am I at the mercy of the sending email server? This is causing havoc with a process that polls the catchall mailbox and parses each recipient in each email.

  • IIS 404 custom error

    I've deployed an ASP.NET 3.5 app to a 64bit Windows 2003 R2 server. In the web.config I have the following <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="/404/"> <error statusCode="404" redirect="/404/"/> <error statusCode="500" redirect="/500/"/> </customErrors> In the website properties in IIS Manager I have set the 404 and 500 errors to Type = "URL" and the same URLs as in the web.config. I have a wildcard application map to the .NET 2.0 aspnet_isapi.dll with "Verify file exists" turned off. If I try to hit a fake .aspx file I successfully get sent to the 404 page. I belive this is because there is an explicit mapping for .aspx to the .NET DLL. If I try to access a fake directory I simply recieve a plain text response saying: The system cannot find the file specified. It would appear that these requests for directories are not being routed through the .NET pipeline, which is what I would expect (and need) to happen becuase of the wildcard application mapping. Any ideas?

  • Exchange 2010 issuing NDRs to Hotmail/Live & few other domains on receipt of message

    I'm working through a beast of an issue at the moment. Exchange 2010 single server on prem Hybrid deployment to Office 365 ESMTP filtering turned off on ASA Certain domains (most consistently, Hotmail/Live) cannot send us mail. At one point, we couldn't send out either, but I created a new Send Connector that forces HELO instead of EHLO. I turned on SMTP logging, an example of the failed inbound message connection is below. I've read that it could be that reverse DNS is the problem, i.e., the exchange banner smtp address needs to reverse-DNS back to the same IP. Since it's the default exchange connector, its banner is the server's name, but the DNS name of the MX record is different. I'm waiting for the PTR records to update to reflect the internal name as well. Is that the right direction? Is this all DNS or something different? For example, say a control's upper left corner was located at 500, 500 relative to MainWindow what code would convert that number to (0, 0)? I'd like the solution to be agnostic of the layout mechanism (i.e. not require me to parent the control in a Canvas and use the Top and Bottom methods).
