    I am learning sql server 2008 t-sql. To insert a varchar type, I just need to insert a string 'abc', but for nvarchar type, I need to add N in front (N'abc'). I have a table employee, it has 2 fields, firstname and lastname, they are both nvarchar(20). insert into employee values('abc', 'def'); I test it, it works, seems like N is not required. Why we need to add N in front for nvarchar type, what's the pro or con if we are not using it?

    I have a switch statement switch ( $id ) { case 'abc': return 'Animal'; case 'xyz': return 'Human'; //many more } I am returning class names,and use them to call some of their static functions using call_user_func(). Instead I can also create a object of that class, return that and then call the static function from that object as $object::method($param) switch ( $id ) { case 'abc': return new Animal; case 'xyz': return new Human; //many more } Which way is efficient? To make this question broader : I have classes that have mostly all static methods right now, putting them into classes is kind of a grouping idea here (for example the DB table structure of Animal is given by class Animal and so for Human class). I need to access many functions from these classes so the switch needs to give me access to the class

  • Two hosting providers running simultaneously... possible / not possible? good practice / unnecessary?

    For the sake of their reputation, I won't mention the names. But I'll just use: Business I worked for previously - ABC Web Dev Hosting company they used - XYZ Hosting I recently found out that XYZ Hosting had some sort of incident where they ended up losing a lot of their client's data - including ABC Web Dev's. ABC Web Dev was able to recover some of their customer's websites, after pulling them from their local development computers and putting them up on another hosting provider. They ended up losing a lot of clients because of it and their reputation ruined. I'm starting my own web dev company and I don't want to run into this same issue. I'm planning on using Rackspace but, although they are a great company, according to wikipedia they still have had downtime in their past. I thought it might be a good idea to try to run two providers at once, to ensure that if anything happened in one the websites would still be live because of the other. I know the websites would have to be pulling from one server at all times, but if there's a way to redirect requests to the second server if the first one is down that would solve my issue. As a note, we will have a staging environment setup locally which will allow for quick recovery if a provider did have any issues, however I'd like to avoid any downtime at all if possible. So my questions are: Has anyone tried running two providers simultaneously? Would this be considered good practice or am I going too far? Is there really any way to run two simultaneously where one server acts as a backup?

  • Rename a Network Printer win Win 7

    Seems this is a common question but the answers regularly miss the point. I have a server. Server has some printers connected. Server has all drivers for x32 & x64 OS PLUS ALL DEFAULTS set. Server also manages print queue. I have many workstations, all need to use the printers. All NEED to have drivers print queue and DEFAULTS propagated from server. Now.... When I add the printers on the workstations, I get: "ABC Printer on SERVER123" I need something less long - just "ABC Printer" So how? Tip: Please don't show me how to change the name of your locally installed printer. I know how to do this - I am particularly interested in shared printers that look like "ABC Printer on SERVER123" Tip: Installing the driver with a local port wont cut it because then I loose the server propagated defaults, the driver updates and I need to run around with driver disks/confuse trembling users with hard things like choosing drivers. I am happy for a hack if there is no official way to do this in the group policy.... I tried looking in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers on the workstation machines but those are only local printers :( I can see the network printer details on the workstations here: HKEY_USERS[Some GUID]\Printers\Connections But there is nothing obvious like a description string... Can anyone help with this?

  • SSH into remote server using Public-private keys

    Hi, I have recently setup ssh on two linux machines (lets call them server-a, client-b). I have generated two ssh auth files on client-b machine using ssh key gen and can see both public and private files in .ssh dir. I have named them 'example' and 'example.pub'. Then I have added example.pub to sever-a's auth file. When I try to ssh into server-a it still requests a password authentication where as I want a password less login (private key on client-b is setup without password).     I have thousands of files with no specific extensions. What I need to do is to search for a sting in filename and replace with other string and further search for second string and replace with any other string and so on. I.e.: I have multiple strings to replace with other multiple strings. It may be like: "abc" in filename replaced with "def" * String "abc" may be in many files "jkl" in filename replaced with "srt" * String "jkl" may be in many files "pqr" in filename replaced with "xyz" * String "pqr" may be in many files I am currently using excel macro to get the file names in excel and then preserving original names in one column and replacing desired in the content copied in other column. then I create a batch file for the same. Like: rename Path\OriginalName1 NewName1 rename Path\OriginalName2 NewName2 Problem with the above procedure is that it takes a lot of time as the files are many. And As I am using excel 2003 there is limitation on number of rows as well. I need a script in batch like: replacestr abc with def replacestr pqr with xyz in a single directory. Will it be better to do in unix script?

    I have an ArrayAdapter wrapped around an ArrayList of custom objects. I'd like to write a custom filter for that adapter so that when I call getListAdapter().getFilter().filter("abc") the list will get filtered by an arbitrary transformation of "abc". I thought I would just try to override ArrayAdapter.getFilter(), but that requires I re-implement the private ArrayAdapter.ArrayFilter which requires access to a bunch of ArrayAdapter's private instances. What's the simplest way to do this?

    I have jQuery thickbox(TB_iframe=true) which shows an https page in an iframe based overlay. the parent page is http & overlay page is https.if i use self.parent.tb_remove() This does not work and gives me Permission denied for https://www.abc.com to get property Window.tb_remove from http://www.abc.com. Any solution. I want to be able to close the thikbox irrespective to whether its is https or http page that it is displaying in an iframe.
