  • TSQL Shred XML - Is this right or is there a better way (newbie @ shredding XML)

    - by drachenstern
    Ok, I'm a C# ASP.NET dev following orders: The orders are to take a given dataset, shred the XML and return columns. I've argued that it's easier to do the shredding on the ASP.NET side where we already have access to things like deserializers, etc, and the entire complex of known types, but no, the boss says "shred it on the server, return a dataset, bind the dataset to the columns of the gridview" so for now, I'm doing what I was told. This is all to head off the folks who will come along and say "bad requirements". Task at hand: Here's my code that works and does what I want it to: DECLARE @table1 AS TABLE ( ProductID VARCHAR(10) , Name VARCHAR(20) , Color VARCHAR(20) , UserEntered VARCHAR(20) , XmlField XML ) INSERT INTO @table1 SELECT '12345','ball','red','john','<sizes><size name="medium"><price>10</price></size><size name="large"><price>20</price></size></sizes>' INSERT INTO @table1 SELECT '12346','ball','blue','adam','<sizes><size name="medium"><price>12</price></size><size name="large"><price>25</price></size></sizes>' INSERT INTO @table1 SELECT '12347','ring','red','john','<sizes><size name="medium"><price>5</price></size><size name="large"><price>8</price></size></sizes>' INSERT INTO @table1 SELECT '12348','ring','blue','adam','<sizes><size name="medium"><price>8</price></size><size name="large"><price>10</price></size></sizes>' INSERT INTO @table1 SELECT '23456','auto','black','ann','<auto><type>car</type><wheels>4</wheels><doors>4</doors><cylinders>3</cylinders></auto>' INSERT INTO @table1 SELECT '23457','auto','black','ann','<auto><type>truck</type><wheels>4</wheels><doors>2</doors><cylinders>8</cylinders></auto><auto><type>car</type><wheels>4</wheels><doors>4</doors><cylinders>6</cylinders></auto>' DECLARE @x XML SELECT @x = ( SELECT ProductID , Name , Color , UserEntered , XmlField.query(' for $vehicle in //auto return <auto type = "{$vehicle/type}" wheels = "{$vehicle/wheels}" doors = "{$vehicle/doors}" cylinders = "{$vehicle/cylinders}" />') FROM @table1 table1 WHERE Name = 'auto' FOR XML AUTO ) SELECT @x SELECT ProductID = T.Item.value('../@ProductID', 'varchar(10)') , Name = T.Item.value('../@Name', 'varchar(20)') , Color = T.Item.value('../@Color', 'varchar(20)') , UserEntered = T.Item.value('../@UserEntered', 'varchar(20)') , VType = T.Item.value('@type' , 'varchar(10)') , Wheels = T.Item.value('@wheels', 'varchar(2)') , Doors = T.Item.value('@doors', 'varchar(2)') , Cylinders = T.Item.value('@cylinders', 'varchar(2)') FROM @x.nodes('//table1/auto') AS T(Item) SELECT @x = ( SELECT ProductID , Name , Color , UserEntered , XmlField.query(' for $object in //sizes/size return <size name = "{$object/@name}" price = "{$object/price}" />') FROM @table1 table1 WHERE Name IN ('ring', 'ball') FOR XML AUTO ) SELECT @x SELECT ProductID = T.Item.value('../@ProductID', 'varchar(10)') , Name = T.Item.value('../@Name', 'varchar(20)') , Color = T.Item.value('../@Color', 'varchar(20)') , UserEntered = T.Item.value('../@UserEntered', 'varchar(20)') , SubName = T.Item.value('@name' , 'varchar(10)') , Price = T.Item.value('@price', 'varchar(2)') FROM @x.nodes('//table1/size') AS T(Item) So for now, I'm trying to figure out if there's a better way to write the code than what I'm doing now... (I have a part 2 I'm about to go key in)

  • Why / how does XNA's right-handed coordinate system effect anything if you can specify near/far Z values?

    - by vargonian
I am told repeatedly that XNA Game Studio uses a right-handed coordinate system, and I understand the difference between a right-handed and left-handed coordinate system. But given that you can use a method like Matrix.CreateOrthographicOffCenter to create your own custom projection matrix, specifying the left, right, top, bottom, zNear and zFar values, when does XNA's coordinate system come into play? For example, I'm told that in a right-handed coordinate system, increasingly negative Z values go "into" the screen. But I can easily create my projection matrix like this: Matrix.CreateOrthographicOffCenter(left, right, bottom, top, 0.1f, 10000f); I've now specified a lower value for the near Z than the far Z, which, as I understand it, means that positive Z now goes into the screen. I can similarly tweak the values of left/right/top/bottom to achieve similar results. If specifying a lower zNear than zFar value doesn't affect the Z direction of the coordinate system, what does it do? And when is the right-handed coordinate system enforced? The reason I ask is that I'm trying to implement a 2.5D camera that supports zooming and rotation, and I've spent two full days encountering one unexpected result after another.

  • Finding it Hard to Deliver Right Customer Experience: Think BPM!

    - by Ajay Khanna
Our relationship with our customers is not a just a single interaction and we should not treat it like one. A customer’s relationship with a vendor is like a journey which starts way before customer makes a purchase and lasts long after that. The journey may start with customer researching a product that may lead to the eventual purchase and may continue with support or service needs for the product. A typical customer journey can be represented as shown below: As you may notice, customers tend to use multiple channels to interact with a company throughout their journey.  They also expect that they should get consistent experience, no matter what interaction channel they may choose. Customers do not like to repeat the information they have already provided and expect companies to remember their preferences, and offer them relevant products and services. If the company fails to meet this expectation, customers not only will abandon the purchase and go to the competitor but may also influence others’ purchase decision. Gone are the days when word of mouth was the only medium, and the customer could influence “Six” others. This is the age of social media and customer’s good or bad experience, especially bad get highly amplified and may influence hundreds of others. Challenges that face B2C companies today include: Delivering consistent experience: The reason that delivering consistent experience is challenging is due to fragmented data, disjointed systems and siloed multichannel interactions. Customers tend to get different service quality if they use web vs. phone vs. store. They get different responses from different service agents or get inconsistent answers if they call sales vs. service group in the company. Such inconsistent experiences result in lower customer satisfaction or NPS (net promoter score) numbers. Increasing Revenue: To stay competitive companies frequently introduce new products and services. Delay in launching such offerings has a significant impact on revenue realization. In addition to new product revenue, there are multiple opportunities to up-sell and cross-sell that impact bottom line. If companies are not able to identify such opportunities, bring a product to market quickly, or not offer the right product to the right customer at the right time, significant loss of revenue may occur. Ensuring Compliance: Companies must be compliant to ever changing regulations, these could be about Know Your Customer (KYC), Export/Import regulations, or taxation policies. In addition to government agencies, companies also need to comply with the SLA that they have committed to their customers. Lapse in meeting any of these requirements may lead to serious fines, penalties and loss in business. Companies have to make sure that they are in compliance will all such regulations and SLA commitments, at any given time. With the advent of social networks and mobile technology, companies not only need to focus on process efficiency but also on customer engagement. Improving engagement means delivering the customer experience as the customer is expecting and interacting with the customer at right time using right channel. Customers expect to be able to contact you via any channel of their choice (web, email, chat, mobile, social media), purchase via any viable channel (web, phone, store, mobile). Customers expect companies to understand their particular needs and remember their preferences on repeated visits. To deliver such an integrated, consistent, and contextual experience, power of BPM in must. Your company may be organized in departments like Marketing, Sales, Service. You may hold prospect data in SFA, order information in ERP, customer issues in CRM. However, the experience delivered to the customer must not be constrained by your system legacy. BPM helps in designing the right experience for the right customer and integrates all the underlining channels, systems, applications to make sure right information will be delivered to the right knowledge worker or to the customer every single time.     Orchestrating information across all systems (MDM, CRM, ERP), departments (commerce, merchandising, marketing service) and channels (Email, phone, web, social)  is the key, and that’s what BPM delivers. In addition to orchestrating systems and channels for consistency, BPM also provides an ability for analysis and decision management. By using data from historical transactions, social media and from other systems, users can determine the customer preferences, customer value, and churn propensity. This information, in the context, is then used while making a decision at a process step. Working with real-time decision management system can also suggest right up-sell or cross-sell offers, discounts or next-best-action steps for a particular customer. Timely action on customer issues or request is also a key tenet of a good customer experience. BPM’s complex event processing capabilities help companies to take proactive actions before issues get escalated. BPM system can be designed to listen to a certain event patters then deduce from those customer situations (credit card stolen, baggage lost, change of address) and do a triage before situation goes out of control. If such a situation arises you can send alerts to right people or immediately invoke corrective actions. Last but not least one of BPM’s key values is to drive continuous improvement. Learning about customers past experiences, interactions and social conversations, provide valuable insight. Such insight can be used to improve products, customer facing processes, and customer experience. You may take these insights as an input to design better more efficient and customer friendly sales, contact center or self-service processes. If customer experience is important for your business, make sure you have incorporated BPM as a part of your strategy to design, orchestrate and improve your customer facing processes.

  • CSS difficulty horizontally displaying / repeating left and right wrapper images to ends of screen

    - by user310606

  • Configuring jstree right-click contextmenu for different node types

    - by MGOwen
I've seen an example somewhere online showing how to customise the appearance of jstree's right-click context menu (using contextmenu plugin). For example, allow my users to delete "documents" but not "folders" (by hiding the "delete" option from the context menu for folders). Now I can't find that example. Can anyone point me in the right direction? The official documentation didn't really help.

  • *Right* outer join in LINQ

    - by Rap
Is it safe to say that there is no such thing as a right outer join in LINQ? I know to effectively create one, you'd just swap the tables in a left outer join. But can you apply the DefaultIfEmpty() method to the table on the left side of the equijoin to make it a right outer join?

  • C#: Drag & Drop with right mouse button

    - by stefan.at.wpf
Hello, I'd like to do Drag & Drop with the right mouse button instead with the left one. However calling DragDrop.DoDragDrop() from MouseRightButtonDown instead of MouseLeftButtonDown doesn't do the job - DragDrop.DoDragDrop looks for mouse movements while holding down the left mouse button. Any idea how to realise Drag & Drop using the right mouse button? Thanks for any hint!

    An enormous equation. You need to add \left| on the left side of corresponding |. The corresponding | you need to replace with \right|. Equation \begin{equation} | \Delta w_{0} | = \frac{|w_{0}|}{2} \left( |\frac{\Delta g}{g}|+|\frac{\Delta (\Delta r)}{\Delta r}| + |\frac{\Delta r}{r}| +|\frac{\Delta L}{L}| \right) \end{equation}

  • Getting PATH right for python after MacPorts install

    - by BenjaminGolder
I can't import some python libraries (PIL, psycopg2) that I just installed with MacPorts. I looked through these forums, and tried to adjust my PATH variable in $HOME/.bash_profile in order to fix this but it did not work. I added the location of PIL and psycopg2 to PATH. I know that Terminal is a version of python in /usr/local/bin, rather than the one installed by MacPorts at /opt/local/bin. Do I need to use the MacPorts version of Python in order to ensure that PIL and psycopg2 are on sys.path when I use python in Terminal? Should I switch to the MacPorts version of Python, or will that cause more problems? In case it is helpful, here are more facts: PIl and psycopg2 are installed in /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages which pythonreturns/usr/bin/python echo $PATHreturns (I separated each path for easy reading): :/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/ :/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages :/opt/local/bin :/opt/local/sbin :/usr/local/git/bin :/usr/bin :/bin :/usr/sbin :/sbin :/usr/local/bin :/usr/local/git/bin :/usr/X11/bin :/opt/local/bin in python, sys.path returns: /Library/Frameworks/SQLite3.framework/Versions/3/Python /Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/numpy-override /Library/Frameworks/GDAL.framework/Versions/1.7/Python/site-packages /Library/Frameworks/cairo.framework/Versions/1/Python /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python26.zip /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6 /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/plat-darwin /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/plat-mac /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/plat-mac/lib-scriptpackages /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/Extras/lib/python /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/lib-tk /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/lib-old /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/lib-dynload /Library/Python/2.6/site-packages /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/Extras/lib/python/PyObjC /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/Extras/lib/python/wx-2.8-mac-unicode I welcome any criticism and comments, if any of the above looks foolish or poorly conceived. • Excel 2003 charts not looking right in 2007

    - by AppsByAaron
I'm not exactly sure this goes here but I don't know where else to look for help. I have some Excel files containing charts made with Excel 2003. When I open the file in Excel 2007 and save it (non 2007) is messes up the charts. However, when in Excel 2007 and I Save as a .xlsx type the charts don't mess up. Is there any help for me to be able to not have the charts mess up when simply saving the 2003 file with Excel 2007? Hope that's confusing. Thanks.

  • TCP RST right after FIN/ACK

    - by Nitzan Shaked
I am having the weirdest issue: I have a web server which sometimes, only on very specific requests, will send a RST to the client after having sent the FIN datagram. First, a description of the setup: The server runs on an Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS, which itself is a VM guest inside a Win7 x64 host, in bridged mode. ufw is disabled on the host The client runs on a iOS simulator, which runs on OS X Mountain Lion, which is a VM guest (hackintosh) inside a Win7 x64 host, in bridged mode. Both client and server are on the same LAN, one is connected to the home router via an Ethernet cable, and then other thru WiFi. I happened to glimpse over the server's http logs and found that the client sometimes issuing multiple subsequent identical requests. Further investigation led me to discover that this happens when the server sends a RST, and that the client is simply re-trying. I am attaching several tcpdump's: Good1 is the server-side tcpdump of a good session ("good" meaning no RST was generated). Good3 is another sever-side tcpdump of a good session. (The difference between Good1 and Good3 is the order in which ACK's were sent from the server to the client, ACK'ing the client's request. The client's request arives in 2 segements (specifically: one for the http headers, and another for a body containing an empty json object, "{}"). In Good1, the server ACK's both request segments, using 2 ACK segments, after the second request has arrived. In Good3, the server ACK's each request segment with an ACK segment as soon as the request segment arrives. Not that it should make a difference.) Bad1 is a dump, both client- and server-side, of a bad session. Bad2 is another bad session, this time server-side only. Note that in all "bad" sessions, the server ACK's each request segments immediately after having received it. I've looked at a few other bad sessions, and the situation is the same in all of them. But this is also the behavior in "Good3", so I don't see how that observation helps me, of for that matter why it should matter. I can't find any difference between good and bad sessions, or at least one that I think should matter. My question is: why are those RST's being generated? Or at least: how do I go about debugging this, or providing more info here that'll help? Edit 2 new facts that I have learned: Section 4.2.2.13 of the RFC (1122) (and Wikipedia, in the article "TCP", under "Connection Termination") says that a TCP application on one host may close the connection before it has read all of the data in its socket buffer, and in such a case the TCP on the host will sent a RST to the other side, to let it know that not all the data it has sent has been read. I'm not sure I completely understand this, since closing my side of the connection still allows me to read, no? It also means that I can't write any more. I am not sure this is relevant, though, since I see a RST after FIN. There are multiple complaints of this happening with wsgiref (Python's dev-mode HTTP server), which is exactly what I'm using. I'll keep updating as I find out more. Thanks! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Good1 -- Server Side ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 13:28:02.308319 IP 192.168.1.51.51479 > 192.168.1.132.5000: Flags [S], seq 94268074, win 65535, options [mss 1460,nop,wscale • How to get the permissions right for /dev/raw1394

    - by Mark0978
I recently upgraded one of my ubuntu machines to Karmic and I'm having trouble getting the permissions of /dev/raw1394 set to 0666. They only thing this machine is used for is recording audio from a firepod which uses /dev/raw1394 via jackd and there are no other FireWire devices connected, so security around this device is not really an issue. If I run as root, everything works as expected, but I have some folks that run the recorder that I don't want to have root access. However, I can't figure out which lines setup the perms I've tied this: /etc/udev/permissions.d/raw1394.rules:raw1394:root:root:0666 And I have this setup (default install) /lib/udev/rules.d/75-persistent-net-generator.rules:SUBSYSTEMS=="ieee1394", ENV{COMMENT}="Firewire device $attr{host_id})" /lib/udev/rules.d/75-cd-aliases-generator.rules:# the "path" of usb/ieee1394 devices changes frequently, use "id" /lib/udev/rules.d/75-cd-aliases-generator.rules:ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="block", SUBSYSTEMS=="usb|ieee1394", ENV{ID_CDROM}=="?*", ENV{GENERATED}!="?*", \ /lib/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage-tape.rules:KERNEL=="st*[0-9]|nst*[0-9]", ATTRS{ieee1394_id}=="?*", ENV{ID_SERIAL}="$attr{ieee1394_id}", ENV{ID_BUS}="ieee1394" /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules:# FireWire (deprecated dv1394 and video1394 drivers) /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules:KERNEL=="dv1394-[0-9]*", NAME="dv1394/%n", GROUP="video" /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules:KERNEL=="video1394-[0-9]*", NAME="video1394/%n", GROUP="video" /lib/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules:KERNEL=="sd*[!0-9]|sr*", ATTRS{ieee1394_id}=="?*", SYMLINK+="disk/by-id/ieee1394-$attr{ieee1394_id}" /lib/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules:KERNEL=="sd*[0-9]", ATTRS{ieee1394_id}=="?*", SYMLINK+="disk/by-id/ieee1394-$attr{ieee1394_id}-part%n" And I find these lines in /var/log/syslog Apr 30 09:11:30 record kernel: [ 3.284010] ieee1394: Node added: ID:BUS[0-00:1023] GUID[000a9200c7062266] Apr 30 09:11:30 record kernel: [ 3.284195] ieee1394: Host added: ID:BUS[0-01:1023] GUID[00d0035600a97b9f] Apr 30 09:11:30 record kernel: [ 18.372791] ieee1394: raw1394: /dev/raw1394 device initialized What I can't figure out, is which line actually creates that raw1394 device in the first place. How do you get /dev/raw1394 to have permissions 0666?

(Yes the execute permission is set) About the file $ ls prog $ ./prog bash: ./prog: No such file or directory $ file prog prog: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.2.5, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), not stripped $ pwd /usr/local/bin $ /usr/local/bin/prog bash: /usr/local/bin/prog: No such file or directory $ less prog | head ELF Header: Magic: 7f 45 4c 46 01 01 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 Class: ELF32 Data: 2's complement, little endian Version: 1 (current) OS/ABI: UNIX - System V ABI Version: 0 Type: EXEC (Executable file) Machine: Intel 80386 Version: 0x1 I have a fancy less, to show that it's an actual executable, here's some more data: $ xxd prog |head 0000000: 7f45 4c46 0101 0100 0000 0000 0000 0000 .ELF............ 0000010: 0200 0300 0100 0000 c092 0408 3400 0000 ............4... 0000020: 0401 0a00 0000 0000 3400 2000 0700 2800 ........4. ...(. 0000030: 2600 2300 0600 0000 3400 0000 3480 0408 &.#.....4...4... 0000040: 3480 0408 e000 0000 e000 0000 0500 0000 4............... 0000050: 0400 0000 0300 0000 1401 0000 1481 0408 ................ 0000060: 1481 0408 1300 0000 1300 0000 0400 0000 ................ 0000070: 0100 0000 0100 0000 0000 0000 0080 0408 ................ 0000080: 0080 0408 21f1 0500 21f1 0500 0500 0000 ....!...!....... 0000090: 0010 0000 0100 0000 40f1 0500 4081 0a08 ........@...@... and $ ls -l prog -rwxrwxr-x 1 1000 devs 725706 Aug 6 2007 prog $ ldd prog not a dynamic executable $ strace ./prog 1249403877.639076 execve("./prog", ["./prog"], [/* 27 vars */]) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) 1249403877.640645 dup(2) = 3 1249403877.640875 fcntl(3, F_GETFL) = 0x8002 (flags O_RDWR|O_LARGEFILE) 1249403877.641143 fstat(3, {st_mode=S_IFCHR|0620, st_rdev=makedev(136, 0), ...}) = 0 1249403877.641484 mmap(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) = 0x2b3b8954a000 1249403877.641747 lseek(3, 0, SEEK_CUR) = -1 ESPIPE (Illegal seek) 1249403877.642045 write(3, "strace: exec: No such file or dir"..., 40strace: exec: No such file or directory ) = 40 1249403877.642324 close(3) = 0 1249403877.642531 munmap(0x2b3b8954a000, 4096) = 0 1249403877.642735 exit_group(1) = ? About the server FTR the server is a xen domU, and the programme is a closed source linux application. This VM is a copy of another VM that has the same root filesystem (including this programme), that works fine. I've tried all the above as root and same problem. Did I mention the root filesystem is mounted over NFS. However it's mounted 'defaults,nosuid', which should include execute. Also I am able to run many other programmes from that mounted drive /proc/cpuinfo: processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 15 model : 4 model name : Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.00GHz stepping : 1 cpu MHz : 2992.692 cache size : 1024 KB fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 5 wp : yes flags : fpu tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm syscall nx lm constant_tsc pni monitor ds_cpl cid cx16 xtpr bogmips : 5989.55 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 128 address sizes : 36 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: Example of a file that I can run I can run other programmes on that mounted filesystem on that server. For example: $ ls -l ls -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 105576 Jul 25 17:14 ls $ file ls ls: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.6.9, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped $ ./ls attr cat cut echo getfacl ln more ... (you get the idea) ... rmdir sort tty $ less ls | head ELF Header: Magic: 7f 45 4c 46 02 01 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 Class: ELF64 Data: 2's complement, little endian Version: 1 (current) OS/ABI: UNIX - System V ABI Version: 0 Type: EXEC (Executable file) Machine: Advanced Micro Devices X86-64 Version: 0x1
