• Is it possible to update Lenovo T500 hybrid graphics driver?

  Hope someone had the same problem before. My laptop comes with two video "cards". Intel MHD4500 and ATI Radeon HD3650 (mobility). I can switch between them with the "Lenovo Battery Manager" from the taskbar. All good, but Lenovo provides the driver for this. The problem with that driver is they are a bit old. (Both Intel and ATI). For example I doubt I have any gpu accel in flash, and I experience some problem with dual display setup, which the new ATI driver would solve. Basically I want to create a new driver (I read a topic where a guy said its possible... baaack then when I was searching for something else). One needs a special ATI driver creation utility or what... sorry I can't recall the name of it. Thanks in advance. (Ah yes I forgot: The OS is a Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.)

• Booting Ubuntu on HP Pavilion g7 - 13.04 [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: My computer boots to a black screen, what options do I have to fix it? 24 answers I have a HP Pavilion G7 with an AMD A4 processor and Radeon graphics. I want to install Ubuntu on my laptop but whenever I put the Ubuntu live CD in it and boot to it, the screen shows the Ubuntu logo and the four little dots then after about a minute or two the screen goes black. I can tell the screen is still on but it doesn't have anything on it. I'm beginning to wonder if its a driver problem but I can't really install the drivers when I cant even get Ubuntu to show anything except a loading screen. I've already tried using 12.04 and 12.10 and all the others down to Ubuntu 10. none of them worked. All the other versions don't even show the Ubuntu logo. I'd prefer to have Ubuntu 13.04 on it if its possible but I haven't had any luck finding a solution. I've also tried using WUBI installer in Windows 7 but all that did was make my computer slower for windows and it does the same with the screen when i boot it to Ubuntu. I'm trying to use Ubuntu alongside Windows 7. I cant find any solution on Google. It wont load anything and I know that there is a program called grub on Ubuntu that I used on my desktop computer when it had graphics trouble but the trouble with my desktop was minor things like the screen would flash and then show weird patterns on the screen. But I can't find anything on what to do with the HP laptop. Please help. I use this laptop a lot for games on Windows 7 and I just want to use Ubuntu for when I take my laptop to school and for school stuff. Edit: I just tried booting it in nomodeset and some other things and still didn't work. It did boot up but now when it goes to install alongside windows it crashes and says Ubuntu is forcing reboot or something like that Also, this question is different from the black screen at boot issue because when I do use nomodeset on my computer and select install Ubuntu it will go as far as the screen where you can choose to replace Windows or run alongside Windows. Then after I click continue it ejects the live CD and turns off my computer without installing anything. The error message it shows when it ejects the disk says signal 15, shutting down - modem manager [1675]: <info> Caught nm-dispatcher.action: Caught signal 15, shutting down... *Deconfiguring network interfaces... I can use amdcccle to find this information, but it's an GUI app, so can't be used in my application. I wonder if there is a way to get this by command, function, or config file? I'm using RHEL 5.4.

  recently i upgrade my machine with new hardware component. my mother board is Gigabyte, processor Intel i3 3.6 ghz, ram 4 gb, graphics card ATI radeon 4350 1 GB. my OS installed is windows XP. when i am trying to play call of duty black ops then screen gets freeze and when i try to play other game like medal of honour then suddenly game closed suddenly after 15 or 20 minutes. i am not being able to find out the problem. whether i have problem in RAM or Graphics card. i asked few hardware person and one of them told me that i should installed windows 7 rather than windows xp. is it true. please help me to understand the problem and also tell me what should i do to fix this problem. please discuss in detail. thanks in advance. Update: yes i already install lates driver for ATI radeon 4350 but still the problem persist. do i need to install windows 7 instead of win xp because my processor is intel i3.

  What does people normally use to stress test their GPU on ubuntu 12.04? I tried installing Phoronix Benchmark suite ubuntu .deb but it tries to install freeglu3-dev and at the same time complains about $ phoronix-test-suite benchmark pts/opencl The following dependencies are needed and will be installed: freeglut3-dev This process may take several minutes. Reading package lists... Building dependency tree... Reading state information... freeglut3-dev is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 90 not upgraded. There are dependencies still missing from the system: - OpenGL Utility Kit / GLUT 1: Ignore missing dependencies and proceed with installation. 2: Skip installing the tests with missing dependencies. 3: Re-attempt to install the missing dependencies. 4: Quit the current Phoronix Test Suite process. • ATI Catalyst doesn't retain changes after reboot when setting extended display

  I have Ubuntu 11.10 and I'm trying to set up extended display for my two displays. I have an AMD 6870. fglrx and fglrx-updates are installed. When I launch amdcccle trough the terminal (using sudo), I select in tab "Multi-Display" the option "Multi-display Desktop with Display(s)". Then it says for changes to be done I have to reboot my computer. Being a good an obedient lad I do just that, but after rebooting the displays are still in the same "clone" option as before in the Catalyst Control Center and no changes are made. Any suggestions?

  Right now my video card isn't responding after the Ubuntu Logo is shown, (I see a black screen and that's it) I have installed ubuntu 12.04 AMD64 and if I remove the video card and use the VGA from the MOBO then I can use it with no problems, other data: 4 GB of ram 1333 500 GB WD AMD APU A6 3500 2,1 GHZ I forgot a couple of details, everything was working great until last night, when the light went off (I don't know if I'm explaining myself I'm from Argentina and english isn't my first language there was a power cut I meant) and then when it got back I used my pc until I went to bed (after upgrading) and this morning, when I woke up I had this problem for breakfast, I've been reading a little and I had a similar problem before and fixed it, but it was a system problem, a missing package or something, I don't remember, but here the only issue is that the video card doesn't give me image after the ubuntu logo.

• How to stop switchable graphics from switching to high-power GPU when charging the laptop?

  I've an Acer laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and an ATI Radeon HD 6550M Graphics card. Whenever I connect the power to charge the battery it automatically switches to the high-power GPU (ATI) instead of the low-power (Intel) GPU. There's an option in the bios to stop such thing but it makes the GPU runs always on high-power and I can't switch to the low-power GPU. How can I prevent the switchable graphics from automatically using the high-power GPU when charging?

  On my Ubuntu 12.04 I connected my monitor to the onboard intel graphics. I'd like to use my ati radeon 6770 for opencl tasks (e.g. bitcoin mining). So far I couldn't figure out how to get the ati driver working. When calling "aticonfig --initial -f" it always writes a new xorg.conf that ignores the intel graphics. At boot time it works only when I attached the monitor to the ati card. Since I often use it with running GPU codes, sometimes the performances highly decrease as I test it with "glxgears" tool (I get only 20 FPS in fullscreen). So I would like to be able to reinitialize the GPU without reboot the system. I know the "clinfo" tool which display the features of the graphics card. Is there a tool which allows to do this reinitialization ?

• Why cant I get 3 monitors working with my ati 5770

  I have an ati 5770, card with vga, dvi and hdmi output. I can only get 2 out of the 3 monitors working at once, however i can change the configuation so that all monitors can be selected, but only 2 will work at once.. 2 of my monitors have dvi inputs and one has vga. in my catyalist control center it shows all 3 monitors are there but either 2 can be selected at a time, and so the same with my windows 7. I have and adapter which i use on the 3rd monitor, hdmi-dvi adaptor and it works. also when i boot up my pc i get 2 monitors booting up and when windows starts the 3rd monitor boots but the 1st one closes. I looked at my package box and it actualy does specify ati eyefinity technology is available with this card. why wont it work???

  I've got Lenovo W500 with D-SUB and DVI ports. Most of the time I work with a docking station which has D-SUB and DVI ports, as well. I used to have laptop + 22" monitor (DVI) configuration. Now I've got laptop + 22" (DVI) + 19" (D-SUB). I was trying to configure everythin but with no success. I've got ATI V5700 in my laptop. And my ATI CCC allows me to only have one external monitor attached at the time. :( Is there any workaround to this situation? I'd like to have the configuration I've just descripted: laptop + 22" (DVI) + 19" (D-SUB).

Here is my issue: when I go to AMD/ATI website to update my graphics card - it doesn't. when I type DxDiag and then click on display it tell me my version is 8.17.0 and its on 10.10.0 for the latest version. How can I get 8.17.0 too 10.10.0? I figure it would have done that after I updated the driver for my graphics card. Thanks.

  Hello everyone i'm a little worry about my graphic card. before I get into that I will tell you my system specs. I have intel dx58so mainboard, 6gb corsair xms ddr3 ram, intel i7 960 cpu, and ati hd 5970. I'm also using a coolmaster haf92 case. My OS is vista X64. Here is my issue when I type in dxdiag in (Start Search) and I look into display. I see in (approx total memory) 716mb graphic memory. The ati hd 5970 is a 2gb graphic card. Am I being stuipd or is there an issue.

• Why can't I get out of display mirror mode?

  I've been running Ubuntu (10.04.1 LTS, 64-bit) for a while and just replaced my hardware with a faster machine with an ATI Radeon HD 5700 video card. I've got twin 1920 x 1080 displays. I downloaded the latest driver (ati-driver-installer-10-9-x86.x86_64.run) from the ATI web site and installed that. I've gone through a few rounds of playing with /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and can't get things right. At the moment, it's in display mirroring mode, and I can't figure out how to get it out of mirror mode. If I run Monitor Preferences, there's a "Same image in all monitors" checkbox. If I uncheck that, the little preview window switches to show two monitors. When I click Apply, it asks me to log out and log back in again. When I do that, I'm right back to mirrored mode. What's really weird is that I'm currently running a copy of xorg.conf from a coworker's machine. He's got identical hardware, and his display works fine. So, I'm inclined to think there's something else going on other than the conf file. Any ideas what might be wrong?

• LiveCD does not work on my desktop

  I've installed Oneiric on my laptop without any issue using the LiveCD downloaded here (from the French Ubuntu community server). But on my desktop, weird things happen: During the 1st try booting with the LiveCD on my desktop, my 2 year old child just hit the keyboard, and after several error messages the desktop loaded and I've been able to test Oneiric. But I wanted to redo a boot before installing Oneiric to avoid mistakes. So during the 2nd time I tried to boot with the LiveCD, I couldn't access to the point where I can choose to test or install. Before trying a 3rd time, I've "cleaned the system" from System Parameter System. But after that I'm still not able to access to the point where I can choose to test or install. Now it stops all the time on a black screen. I do not understand why several boot attempts with same CD have several results. So I wonder if the state of my current installation 11.04 can affect re-booting with my CD 11.10 ?
