• What kind of website or coding is suitable and safe for an artist's website

  I have a web design project that is related to a singer, and I used Joomla for my previous project and designed good music websites. But for this project I cannot find a suitable template to edit and use. As the website is so simple and does not have any special functionality, I'm thinking about creating a website with just simple CSS, html and jQuery. I'm Good at them and can make a perfect look but I am not sure about the security. In Joomla I use different security plugins but do not know about a client-side scripting. So generally I need your ideas, about the following questions: - Is Joomla and generally CMS a good option for a music website? - How famous artists' website is base on? CMS or Client-side scripting? - Do you recommend to create it manually without using and CMS or template? - An do you suggest WordPress for this type of websites? (The website will have these pages: Biography, News, Music (with a music player), Photos, videos and contacts). That's it! Thank you for all your responds, I had a look at Joomla and the only template I chose is This One which seems very simple, and I am worry about module position, because it seems does not have any module position at all. I tried to contact the provider but did not get any respond. Does anyone know about its module position, I mean is there any way to find them? An is it possible to create a 2-3 module positions? Also I had a look at ThemeForest's WordPress templates and it has such a great template. I think WordPress is more active in creating artistic templates. • Clarifying... So Background Jobs don't Tie Up Application Resources (in Rails)?

  I'm trying to get a better grasp of the inner workings of background jobs and how they improve performance. I understand that the goal is to have the application return a response to the user as fast as it can, so you don't want to, say, parse a huge feed that would take 10 seconds because it would prevent the application from being able to process any other requests. So it's recommended to put any operations that take more than say 500ms to execute, into a queued background job. What I don't understand is, doesn't that just delay the same problem? I know the user who invoked that background job will get an immediate response, but what if another user comes right when that background job starts (and it takes 10 seconds to finish), wont that user have to wait? Or is the main issue that, requests are the only thing that can happen one-at-a-time, while on the other hand a request can start while one+ background jobs are in the middle of running? Is that correct?

  Given that now with Stack Exchange 2.0 the logo of some of the sites, like Web Apps, AskUbuntu, Photography, Gaming and Pro Webmasters have non-white background, I think it will be best if the StackAuth sites route can include the preferred background color for those the logo of these sites. This is especially important for sites like Photography whose logo is unreadable if the traditional white is used. Edit: Here's an example of what I mean here: As you can see, the AskUbuntu logo text totally invisible against a white background.

• How to customize Unity Launcher's background

  In this question I do not want to customize the launcher for each workspace, or change the animations or behaviors of the icons. I only want to change how the background of the Launcher looks. Let me show you what I mean: If I do not open the Dash, the launcher looks like the following: It looks like this because I have a background that has gray, black and white colors. So Unity tries to accommodate the launcher to contrast with it. Now when I open the Dash, the launcher looks like this: What I want is to make the launcher look the same as if my Dash were open (Darker, richer background). I thought maybe to invert the colors of an opened Dash with a closed one, but that the end I do not care if the colors do change when I open the Dash, so long as the darker richer version stays. Is it possible to do this, to make the background stay with a darker color like shown in the pictures above?

• Scaling background without scaling foreground in platformer?

  I'm currently developing a platform game and I've run into a problem with scaling resolutions. I want a different resolution of the game to still display the foreground unscaled (characters, tiles, etc) but I want the background to be scaled to fit into the window. To explain this better, my viewport has 4 variables: (x, y, width, height) where x and y are the top left corner and width and height are the dimensions. These can be either 800x600, 1024x768 or 1280x960. When I design my levels, I design everything for the highest resolution (1280x960) and expect the game engine to scale it down if a user is running in a lower resolution. I have tried the following to make it work but nothing I've come up with solves it so far: scale = view->width/1280; drawX = x * scale; drawY = y * scale; (this makes the translation too small for low resolution) and scale = view->width/1280; bgWidth = background->width*scale; bgHeight = background->height*scale; drawX = x + background->width/2 - bgWidth/2; drawY = y + background->height/2 - bgHeight/2; (this makes the translation completely wrong at the edges of the map) The thing is, no matter what resolution the game is run at, the map remains the same size, and the foreground is unscaled. (With a lower resolution you just see less of the foreground in the viewport) I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to solve this problem? Thank you in advance!

  I am trying to find the option that sets, for the whole system the default Web Browser, Mail Client, Video Player and Music Player instead of having to do it for each type of file. I knew where the option was in 11.04 but somehow I can not find it again. Just to not get anymore confused I am not talking about right clicking a file then changing the "Open With" to the one I want. The option I am looking for affects everything in general, so if I change, for example, the default video player to VLC, all movies will be watched with VLC. I am using Unity.

• How to change tooltip background color in Unity?

  In a lot of applications the tooltips are just plain ugly (White text on black background, way too much contrast) or even unreadable (black or dark blue text (Hyperlinks) on black background). I want to change the background color of the tooltips to some medium gray or even some yellow or something like that, maybe even something semi-transparent. Here is a screenshot of Eclipse which displays some source code in a tool tip with black text on black background: Switching to a different theme (Something other than Ambiance or Radiance) helps but I like Ambiance and I want to keep it. It's just this darn tooltip color which is absolutely unacceptable. I found several solutions for older Ubuntu versions but they no longer work with Unity in Ubuntu 11.10 because I can't find any function to customize the Ambiance or Radiance theme. So how do I do that in the current Ubuntu version?

I click on Settings - Background - then I click on the current background preview to change it but I see only the defaults images! No + symbol to add or something.   Are there any filters that would make background image to be displayed as black-and-white? What I mean, is this: i have a background image set via css using background: url(/image.png); But now I need to apply a filter so that an image is shown as black-white only. Ideally, I would like to also apply opacity to it. The effect I really trying to achieve is to have background image black/white and on hover over that span element the filter would be removed, revealing the color version. • Partitioning Windows 7 so I can use ubuntu

  I have been recording happily using Audacity for many years but after upgrading to Windows 7, the latency has meant that recording music is impossible. My mate suggested partitioning my hard drive, installing ubuntu on it and then using this alongside Windows. He reckons I can use music recording software then on the partitioned Ubuntu drive without the latency problems. • Problems with EmusicJ on Ubuntu 14.04

  I am running Ubuntu 14.04 in my new machine and have a subscription to emusic (because I used it before in my Windows days because of the great selection of classical music). I have used it on my old machine (running older versions of Ubuntu) with some success but am having difficulties doing so now. I am trying to use EmusicJ but do not/cannot remember how to do so. I have downloaded the program and unzipped it and ran the following command in a terminal: ./emusic If I remember correctly, once I go to the emusic site and download my music, the EmucisJ program should open and begin downloading the music through that program but this time it is not and I have already wiped my old box in order to give it to a friend. Any help is appreciated as I would like to continue with Emusic, but if I cannot get this resolved I will likely have to cancel my subscription and find a better alternative. Thanks.

I am aware, that it does not mean that I will not be able to use Banshee, nevertheless I would like to switch to it. I have been a Rhythmbox fan for a long time, but after the switch to Banshee in Natty I decided to give it a try and completely migrated to it. However, I am not very happy with it, it lags for me a lot and has some other issues. I would like to export all Banshee data to Rhythmbox. • Linux Mint Cinamon 17 Qiana, Xfce desktop background problem [on hold]

  I've installed Xfce4 on my laptop which runs Linux Mint 17 with Cinamon default desktop. Everything works OK and I customized my lightweight Xfce, like change menu location and desktop background that it is similar to my Cinamon desktop and used it for a while. Suddenly after last restart my desktop background becomes black and there is no option for desktop background change when I right click on desktop. I should mention that xfdesktop & didn't help, which tells it's already running. Some icons like Computer, Home and Oracle VM that was already there is showing, but my Trash or other icons did not. I've tried everywhere in xfce4-settings-manager but could not get my desktop background back

• Lens showing only music after zeitgeist removal

  I can't get anything to show up in the Dash (lens?) other than music (no applications , no files) . This began when I removed zeitgeist. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, but still not working. I've also installed unity-place-files and unity-place-applications as suggested elsewhere. Under processes that are running I don't see zeitgeist.. (the original reason I wiped it out was because it was sucking up CPU). Ubuntu 12.04 Thanks in advance.

• How do I theme the Nautilus background image?

  I want to change the background image in the Nautilus file browser. My idea is to put my own style in the background. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 and Nautilus is version 3. I know that I have to change the nautilus.css file of the theme, but the problem is that there is not a parameter for the background. I just want to apply an image but I can't find the file or parameter to change it. The CSS file is in the directory /home/UserName/.theme/MyTheme/gtk-3.0/apps. I've changed the nautilus.css file. I wrote two new lines using CSS style but I don't know where the correct place is to put it. The lines are: background-image: url("carbon.jpg"); background-repeat: repeat; Obviously I put the image called carbon.jpg in the same directory of nautilus.css, but this change doesn't work because I need to know whichs class displays the Nautilus file browsing frame. If I find this class I guess that this code will work. If someone knows how to do it, please tell me because I really want to make this change.

• krunner unreadable black text on black background. File a bug? Where?

  I'm running Kubuntu 12.04 beta2 (up to date). Already tried to create a user from the scratch but the problem can still be replicated. I'll make it simple: with any of the available themes (air, air 4 netbooks, oxygen) whenever I disable desktop effects, KRunner instantly becomes black (with black fonts) rendering itself useless because of its unreadable text. Here is a screenshot I took: http://i42.tinypic.com/348sz7n.jpg The weird thing is that with effects enabled KRunner is "light gray" and perfectly functional. What can I do? Should I file a bug? If yes: where? On the KDE bug tracker or the Kubuntu one? Thanks in advance!
