• Emails from web site sometimes blank or gibberish

  Our company has one web site with an online store based on osCommerce. The system sends emails for various reasons, such as password changes, order confirmations, etc., using PHP's mail() function. We occasionally have customers report that the email they received is either blank (email is plain text format) or gibberish (email is in HTML format). In the latter case it's really just HTML that's being displayed as raw text but of course the customers can't read it. In this case the first opening tag's <, and sometimes a few more characters, has gone missing. In an attempt to determine whether this was happening only for certain customers or email systems I configured the web site to send a CC of each message to a service account at my end. Those CC'd messages always arrive intact and display correctly in Outlook. For what it's worth, it seems to happen a little more frequently to Hotmail users but is certainly not limited to them. As the web site is on a shared (Debian) host there's precious little I can do about debugging things from that end, although if I made the right request I feel the hosting company staff would help me, even though they have limited resources to spend on such matters. Any suggestions on what else I might do to try and determine just why those emails are not being received correctly by some customers, yet a CC copy arrives just fine?

• Exchange 2007 OWA returns blank page with url xxxxx&reason=0

  Hi All: I've just run into an issue with my exchange OWA. It returns a blank page with the url string https://www.xxxxxxxx/&reason=0. Nothing in the logs gives me any good reasons. Here's what I've done so far; 1) reinstall Exchange roll-up 7. 2) recreate virtual directories. 3) reboot. (this was mostly a shot in the dark, but what the hell) Exchange via rpc/https is still working great. Anyone run into this before? • Windows 7 blank dvi screen

  I've just upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I had an issue during installation; after setup rebooted instead of going to the 'Completing installation' screen I just got a blank screen. I eventually(!) figured out that this meant 'un-plug your second monitor to proceed'. When I did this, installation completed in a snap and everything runs fine. However, whenever I plug my second monitor into my PC, it gets no signal, the the primary monitor removes all windows. icons, the taskbar and the cursor just shows the desktop wallpaper. I'm running a GTS8800 512mb, with the latest drivers (197 IIRC). The monitors are identical, and both plug into DVI sockets on the graphics card, the only difference is I connect one using a straight DVI cable and the other using a VGA cable and a VGA-DVI converter. It's the DVI cabled one that has the issues (if I plug it in by itself it gets no signal). Everything was working fine before I upgraded to Windows 7 (I used to run XPSP2). Anyone have any ideas?

• Unable to write DVD-R(Blank DVD's)

  I have a problem in dvd drive i.e. It can read CD/DVD and can write CD and all CD/DVD-RW but cannot write DVD DVD drive model is SH-S203B Samsung; I also have a log file created by nero burning rom 11. Actually the fact is no Blank DVD's are being read in my dvd drive only previously written dvd's can be read! Is this the problem of OS or should I try cleaning the dvd drive or my DVD drive is 4yrs old so is it going to spoil now, since it is showing this type of symptoms! • Windows Feature List blank, Updates fail, system readiness tool says files are corrupt

  I tried to install IIS and to my surprise the feature/components lists was blank =[. • PHP Causing Segmentation Fault & Apache Blank Response

  I recently updated a Debian Lenny server to php 5.3,5 using the dotdeb source. Soon after doing so certain (but not all) sites on the server stopped responding to requests. A blank response would be returned - no headers, no content, nothing. I found this related question on stackoverflow which seems to describe something similar and used the same code the user had in their answer to see if I could replicate the issue: <?php class A { public function __construct() { new B; } } class B { public function __construct() { new A; } } new A; print 'Loaded Class A'; ?> This triggered the problem - the page returned absolutely nothing despite the original question stating this was fixed in PHP 5.5.0. No CPU block as you'd expect, no wait, just an almost instant zero response. I then ran this same code from the cli (php -f test.php) and the only output I got was 'Segmentation fault'. Tailing the kernel log I've spotted: Feb 16 07:04:06 creature kernel: [192203.269037] php[17710] general protection ip:76ef37 sp:7fff155e9bb0 error:0 in php5[400000+870000] Feb 16 08:57:31 creature kernel: [199639.699854] apache2[31136]: segfault at 7fff13a84fe0 ip 7f730514ea40 sp 7fff13a85008 error 6 in libphp5.so[7f7304ce8000+915000] All extremely odd and I'm not sure what it's pointing to/what I should do to debug this further. As I said some sites work but code such as the above definitely trigger it. Not that the sites I want to server have code like that - it's just an example. Any help is much appreciated!

• Blank list of windows services

  Recently when I open windows services (always as administrator) I get a blank list of services: When I try and click on one of the empty lines I get this "Script Error" message: This happens over and over again, after several times I restarted my computer. I can't pinpoint exactly when this started happening or if I made any specific changes to my computer at that time. Someone told my to try running scf /scannow as administrator, but when I try to do that the scan stops at 34% and I get the message: "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." I am running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit, and I would really like to avoid reinstalling windows. Does anyone know how to fix this? Edit - Here is another attempt I made and some more information that might help: Following WhoIsRich's suggestion, I tried the command sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows. This gave the error message "The arguments passed to sfc are invalid. The offline windows directory specified points to the online system", and then I realized this command is meant to be run after booting from another system. Since I don't have my windows installation disk right now, I used my own system to create a recovery disk, and then restarted my computer and used the recovery disk to boot. I then ran the above command, and I got the following message: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log". I then restarted my computer and let it boot up normally. The problem with windows services persists, and the CBS.log file is a long log file with many entries, and I don't know if there is useful information in it, and if there is, how to find it.

• PHP displays blank white page even with all error reporting enabled

  I am trying to debug a broken page in a Drupal application and am having a hard time getting PHP to spit anything useful out. I have the following set: error_reporting = E_ALL display_errors = On display_startup_errors = On log_errors = On error_log = /var/log/php/php_error.log I have a file showing me phpinfo() which confirms these variables are set correctly for the environment. I have increased memory_limit to 256M (which should be more than enough). Yet, the only indication I get is a status 500 code in the apache access log and a blank white page from PHP. • Some Emails incoming to Outlook 2007 are blank, same emails work fine on webmail, iphone, etc

  This is a pretty easy problem to describe. Basically users who have just been upgraded to Outlook 2007 (yeah I know 2010 is out), are not receiving SOME emails (from outside our domain, ie hotmail, yahoo). Receiving is not the correct word, these emails come in, along with their attachments, subjects, to/from line, etc. But the body is blank. If the same user goes into their webmail, iphone, blackberry instead, they can read the message fine. It's clear to me that something in Outlook 2007 is not generating the body correctly, so it just strips it. I just don't know WHY. Our mail server was recently upgraded to Exchange 2010, users on 2010 running outlook 2003 are working fine, it's just the random emails for users using 2007. I hope I made that clear enough, thank you for any future help guys. EDIT: I don't see rft, but i swear I've seen it before. • .php file blank - .php5 files works

  I have a problem with a server of mine. I've installed virtualmin/webin on it for administration and I have 1 domain on it. DNS management is external. On this domain I only have an html "Under Construction" index and 5 subdomains. In all those subdomains I have PHP systems running perfectly. I've tried to install Wordpress on the main domain and I'm having some issues: None .php files loads. I have made a phpinfo file on it to check it and it won't work either; only a blank page appears. When I check the source code of it in browser, appears the code. I have changed the extensions to .php5 and it worked perfectly. Something is going wrong with it but I can't figure out what. I have checked the apache error and nothing appears. 3 Days ago I upgraded from php 5.2.* to 5.4.21. Server is running CentOS 5.10.

• Apache forwarding to tomcat shows a blank page

  I have an application running on tomcat at http ://www.example.com:9090/mycontext. The host name in server.xml points to www .example.com. I do not have localhost anymore. I am using apache to forward requests to tomcat using mod_proxy. Things work fine as long as the ProxyPath is /mycontext. The server name setup in virtual host is www .abc.com and http ://www.abc.com/mycontext works fine. However I would like to ignore the context path and simply use http://www.abc.com/ to forward requests to http://www.example.com:9090/mycontext. When I do this, apache shows me a blank page. What am I missing here?   I am trying to create multiple items (each with a name value and a content value) in a single form. The code I have is functioning, but I cannot figure out how to ignore items that are blank. • Syntax error results in blank page

  I am new to wicket and trying to get some things working. One thing that annoys me a lot is that I get a blank (0 chars of text) page whenever there is a syntax error on a page. Striped down example: Test.html header stuff: doctype ... html ... head ... body ... <span wicket:id="msgTest" id="message">MSG</span> footer stuff: /body ... /html Test.java public class Test extends WebPage { public Test() { add(new Label("msgTest", "Hello, World!")); } } This will output the page as expected. Now, lets introduce an error: header stuff: doctype ... html ... head ... body ... <span wicket:id="msgTest2" id="message">MSG</span> footer stuff: /body ... /html I changed the label-id to something different then what the source-file expects. If I run this code I get the already mentioned blank page. However, for every request to a page with such a syntax error I get an error report in the log-file of around 1000+ lines. This error-report is basically just wicket-generated html of a page which describes the error. This makes me wonder why wicket isn't displaying the error-stuff instead of the blank page. I'm not very experienced with wicket but to me it somehow looks like wicket is having trouble rendering its own error-page code. It would be nice to know how one goes about finding syntax-errors with wicket. Reading through a 1000+ line error-report for a small error like a misplaced character seems a bit tedious. • Stop writing blank line at the end of CSV file (using MATLAB)

  Hello all ... I'm using MATLAB to open a batch of CSV files containing column headers and data (using the 'importdata' function), then I manipulate the data a bit and write the headers and data to new CSV files using the 'dlmwrite' function. I'm using the '-append' and 'newline' attributes of 'dlmwrite' to add each line of text/data on a new line. Each of my new CSV files has a blank line at the end, whereas this blank line was not there before when I read in the data ... and I'm not using 'newline' on my final call of 'dlmwrite'. Does anyone know how I can keep from writing this blank line to the end of my CSV files? • Changing Physical Path gives blank homepage

  I have two websites ASP Classic - www.company.com and www.companytesting.com. At this time of year, company.com is pointed to a folder called website2012 and companytesting.com is pointing to a folder called website2013. The contents of those two folders are almost identical, just minor changes for our season change (which I was supposed to do today - lol). Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was running Windows Server 2003. To update the "live" website, I'd make a copy of the test site folder, and rename it website2013R1, and point the test site there, then point the live site at website2012. We now have Windows Server 2008 R2 64. (I had someone migrate the websites to the new server for me.) The companytesting.com site, when I pointed it to website2013R1, worked fine. The company.com site, when I pointed it to website2013 (which worked just before, for the companytesting.com site) gives an empty page. (i.e. view source = nothing there.) There is nothing in the failed request log when this happens. I can use the Explore button/link (upper right) in IIS7.5 and see all of the files there. If I use the browse button (either in general or on the index.asp page) I get the blank page again. One weirdness about how these are set up is that companytesting.com uses a login (which I think is windows authentication - it's simply a single username and password for staff, and to keep the GoogleBots out of it). Obviously, company.com does not. But redirecting the to website2013r1 kept the login in place. (So I'm not absolutely clear whether that's attached to the folder or to the site. Hitting the company.com site after changing the path did not yield a password request.) The permissions on the folders all seem to be the same, but obviously, I'm missing something. Why isn't changing the physical path working? As is probably obvious, I'm not knowledgeable about servers. I did OK in 2003, but since it's not my main task and I'm buried right now, I have barely looked at 2008. So I may have really stupid questions when you ask me to check something.

  Hi Guys, I setup Windows XP SP3 on a 40 GB partition using bootcamp (partition formatted for NTFS). For some reason, the hard drive properties only show ~3 GB of space available. Funny thing is though, I've hardly installed anything on the system... and if I open the windows explorer, select all directories, and check properties, it appears that I'm only using 11 GB of space. What gives? I thought there might be hidden files/folders so I enabled the option to show it but still nada. Has anyone come across this before? Any suggestions for how to proceed here?

• Stack , data and address space limits on an Ubuntu server

  I am running an Ubuntu server which has around 5000 users. The users are allowed to SSH in to the system. So in order to cap the memory used up by a process I have capped the address space limits using limits.conf. So my question is , should I be limiting the data and stack ? I feel that is not required since I am capping address space. Are there any pitfalls if I do not cap the stack and data limits?

• Black Screen when Computer Boots

  I'm having a serious problem with my computer; I think I've narrowed it down to the motherboard, but I'd like a second opinion before I spend the money. Before I moved into my new apartment, my desktop was working fine; now, it just won't work. It will turn on, the fans will spin up, lights come on... but nothing appears on the screen. No POST, nothing. I've tried: A different monitor (both are VGA) A different video-card (both are DVI, PCIe) Three different, known-good VGA-DVI adapters The onboard video port (VGA) Reseating the memory, and trying only one stick Different, known-good wall-outlets Unplugging the HDD and CD-drive from both the motherboard and PSU Replacing the PSU Has anyone had this happen before? • Blank black screen with cursor after login -- RHEL5

  I have a RHEL 5 machine here which is a Dell Precision T3500. I'm an Ubuntu guy, but I'm having a heck of a time with this machine. After processing its first security update, we cannot log in via the gdm greeter. A new kernel was installed; then I installed the nVidia drivers for our Quadro NVS 295. I know the X configuration is valid because the gdm greeter does display; however, upon login all we can get is a blank, black screen with a cursor. I thought perhaps our python installation was corrupted but a reinstall via yum has not helped. I have searched & googled extensively for a potential fix for this and can find nothing. Below are outputs from uname, a tail of an error in /var/log/messages, and the Xorg.conf. Can anyone suggest a course of action? • Can't start my Windows XP Virtual Machine: Insufficient Disk Space

  Okay, I currently have a server with two virtual machines installed on it, a CentOS5.4 and a Windows XP. I was remote desktopping the Windows XP chatting on IRC, and all of a sudden I lost connection. I checked with my HyperVisor and tried to restart it, and it won't start at all. It's giving me this error: Message from server0297.serverpool.gnet.ba: Failed to extend swap file (fileHandle 16414) from 0 KB to 524288 KB: No space left on device. Could not power on VM : No space left on device. Failed to power on VM info 4/17/2010 9:49:20 PM root Basically I bought the set up from a host, he installed the HyperVisor and the VirtualMachines, and honestly I don't really know what I'm doing. I've looked at some of the settings, and I can't figure it out. If you need any additional information, I'll try to provide it. The CentOS5.4 is still starting and working flawlessly, if that's relevant.

• Missing over 100GB of Space on sda1 RHEL

  I have a server setup with a RAID 5 using (3) 500GB drives, 1 as a spare so unused in the RAID. So in my mind i start out with 990GB with the RAID 5 in place. When looking at DF or the built in disk space utility i only see a total of about 882GB, how can i find where the 100+GB went? How can i get it back? I've checked the RAID 5 BIOS and i see all the space. I've tried looking manually and through terminal commands with no luck. • Disk space consumed

  I have a very serious problem here in one of my client server. The remote server is installed with REDHAT ES 5.2 and we have a postgresql as database. I was trying to clone the database. The hard drive had 32 GB of free space before taking clone. I started cloning the database and during the process, there was some internet issue and due to this, putty got disconnected before taking clone. So I opened another fresh session and I was able to see only 2.5GB as available space. Also I was not able to see the clone in the psql terminal. Any solution to get the 29GB that was consumed????
