• Hibernation to a swap file 12.04, fragfile output

  I've been trying for some time now, to get hibernation working in Ubuntu 12.04 on my Dell XPS17. I dualboot Windows 7 and Ubuntu, each having their own partition and one shared partition for all my data and documents. As I would like to be able to swtich from ubuntu to windows without losing all the things I was currently doing in Ubuntu, I would like to be able to use hibernation. In order to achieve this I've followed the information at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1042946. Only instead of creating my swap file on my linux partition (which is formatted: ext4), I've chosen to create one on my shared partition (which is formatted: ntfs). There is a problem with this though (at least, that's what I think the problem is), because when I call: sudo filefrag -v /media/data/Ubuntu_Swap_Space/6GiB.swap, I get the following output: Filesystem type is: 65735546 File size of /media/Data/Ubuntu_Swap_Space/6GiB.swap is 6442450944 (1572864 blocks, blocksize 4096) Discontinuity: Block 22 is at 25829097 (was 232498) /media/Data/Ubuntu_Swap_Space/6GiB.swap: 2 extents found So I'm not sure what I need to fill in as an offset to follow the rest of the earlier mentioned information. I've tried both the location of block 22 and the number that is listed after that, but when I then try sudo pm-hibernate nothing happens and this shows up in my /var/log/pm-suspend.log s2disk: Could not use the resume device (try swapon -a). Reason: No such device Hope someone can help me out with this! If you need more information about anything, please let me know!

• Capital D key not working / producing output

  For some inexplicable reason the capital d key on my Ubuntu system is no longer producing output. Hitting caps lock and then d produces a D. I've tried multiple keyboards and the issue is the same. • No monitor output after fresh install of 11.10 64-bit

  I have a machine with a Nvidia 8600GT graphics card and a CRT monitor. Previously, I have only used Windows on it, and the graphics card seems to be working correctly in Windows 7. I booted up and installed Ubuntu 11.10 amd64 from the LiveCD and the whole process worked perfectly. When I tried to boot off the hard disk for the first time, the output to the monitor switched off during the splash screen, and this happens consistently. I can ctrl-alt-f2, so I tried an apt-get upgrade, which didn't help; nor did apt-get install nvidia-current. There is nothing that looks relevant in dmesg. Booting with the nomodeset option has no effect. Following the answers in this similar thread, I tried apt-get purge nvidia-173. Both startx and service lightdm start just say the service is already running. Does anyone know how to find out what the problem is? I was wondering if it is just that Ubuntu is trying to use a resolution that the monitor doesn't support, but I can't find out how to change that from the command line.

• Ubuntu 12.04 startup is slow and dmesg output seems to lose several seconds

  I use ubuntu on Dell Inspiron n4050.I have upgraded to ubuntu 12.04 from 10.04. But now I find the system startup is a little slow and plymouth only show purple screen without logo during startup.   When IGD and DIS both exist in my pc,and I want to disable DIS,so I create a service to switch on and off the DIS.It works.Finally,I decide to add the service command into /etc/rc.local so that DIS will be powered off automatically.Unfortunately,it fails.There's only one command added by myself in the file /etc/rc.local,so I can affirm failure is caused by that added command. Before,I directly added the command "echo OFF /sys/kernel/debug..." into /etc/rc.local,and when I restarted,the system startup fails.So I thought maybe when the command is executed,the DIS hasn't been powered on or ready for work.So conflict occurs!It's just my prediction.Then I added one line command "sleep 1s" before the "echo OFF ...",it works nearly everytime when I start or restart pc,while fails sometimes. The output result of "cat /sys/kernel/debug..." is as following: 0:IGD:+:Pwr:0000:00:02.0 1:DIS: :Pwr:0000:01:00.0 I want know 0000:00:02.0 means what?Time of first power on? If it was really time,I can set the command "sleep 2s" to wait for DIS powered on then "echo OFF ..." Thanks for your advice!

  I've got a python script that calls a bunch of functions, each of which writes output to stdout. Sometimes when I run it, I'd like to send the output in an e-mail (along with a generated file). I'd like to know how I can capture the output in memory so I can use the email module to build the e-mail. My ideas so far were: use a memory-mapped file (but it seems like I have to reserve space on disk for this, and I don't know how long the output will be) bypass all this and pipe the output to sendmail (but this may be difficult if I also want to attach the file)

• What is the collaborative screen shot/diagramming application recently featured on Hacker News and p

  A few days ago, I saw this video for a screen capture application. I'm pretty sure I followed a link from Hacker News, possibly to a Life Hacker article. The video was very short, but demonstrated how the application could be used: The application was basically a movable/resize-able view port with a button. When the button is pressed, the contents of the view port are saved to an image (basically a screen capture.) The interesting thing is what you could do after that point. One of the specific examples from the video browsed to Google maps street view, grabbed a photo of an intersection, then scribbled notes about where to meet and where the restaurant was in colored "marker." Another example shown was grabbing a house layout from from CAD tool, then scribbling notes on it. The last part of the video showed several possible uses being scrolled through the application's view port. Now, it seemed it was very easy to share these images with other people because there was some type of integration, either with their own site and/or common social websites/chat services. The application was shown running on both Windows and Mac. edit: I think there was an iPhone app, as well. Anyone know what this application is? I tried searching Google, Hacker News, and Life Hacker already. It is not Jing.

  Currently am using Boost.Process from the Boost sandbox, and am having issues getting it to capture my standard output properly; wondering if someone can give me a second pair of eyeballs into what I might be doing wrong. I'm trying to take thumbnails out of RAW camera images using DCRAW (latest version), and capture them for conversion to QT QImage's. • tcpdump on dd-wrt router

  I'm trying to capture packets from two devices on my network. I have tcpdump installed on my dd-wrt router and working correctly. However, the only packets I capture are broadcast packets when using a tcpdump statement that states only those two devices ./tcpdump -w /tmp/capture.pcap dst 192.168.3.105 or src 192.168.3.105 or dst 192.168.3.136 or src 192.168.3.136 I'm capturing on intefface br0. Is that correct? Both devices are plugged in directly to the ports 1 and 2 with ip addresses 192.168.3.105 and 192.168.3.136 respectively. Do I need to set br0 in promiscuous mode? A little stuck.   Now that Apple is officially allowing UIGetScreenImage() to be used in iPhone apps, I've seen a number of blogs saying that this "opens the floodgates" for video capture on iPhones, including older models. But I've also seen blogs that say the fastest frame rate they can get with UIGetScreenImage() is like 6 FPS. Can anyone share specific frame-rate results you've gotten with UIGetScreenImage() (or other approved APIs)? Does restricting the area of the screen captured improve frame rate significantly? Also, for the wishful thinking segment of today's program, does anyone have pointers to code/library that uses UIGetScreenImage() to capture video? For instance, I'd like an API something like Capture( int fps, Rect bounds, int durationMs ) that would turn on the camera and for the given duration record a sequence of .png files at the given frame rate, copying from the given screen rect.

  I want to capture events that close editor window (tab) in Visual Studio 2008 IDE. When I use dte2.Application.Events.get_CommandEvents(null, 0).BeforeExecute I successfully captured such events: File.Close File.CloseAllButThis File.Exit Window.CloseDocumentWindow and others. If code in window is not acceptable, I stop the event (CancelDefault = true). But if I click "X" button on the right hand side, "Save Changes"; dialog appears, tab with editor window close and I have no any captured events. In this case I can capture WindowClosing event, but can not cancel the event. Is it poosible to handle "x" button click and stop event?

My problem is that, from a buffer to another the data are just inconsistent, if for example I capture a sine I see a jump from my last buffer and the new one. How can I fix this? Also, how can I get the video duration and store it with the model? Thank you.

I'm receiving the error "no operator "<<" matches these operands". However, line 5 is fine. I'm guessing this has to do with the data type being a string for the package name. Any ideas?

• Capture Backspace , is this a OK solution?

  Hello, I having a hard time to capture the backspace button in a UITextView. I am trying to capture it in the method - (BOOL)textView:(UITextView *)textView shouldChangeTextInRange:(NSRange)range replacementText:(NSString *)text I thought it was ok to do like this. if([text isEqualToString:@"\b") { // code ... } But for some reason, when backspace is pressed 'text' is empty. I know I can compare lenght of the UITextView but it isnt what I want to achieve. So I found a solution to this. If I look at '[text lenght]' every key on the defaultkeyboard returns 0 . Every key excepts the backspace wich is 0. In that way i know when backspace is pressed. I do this check. if([text lenght] == 0) { // BACKSPACE PRESSED   } What is your opinion about this? -or can I do it in a better way? Regards. - Martin

• Capture DDE Data that is being streamed in to a software

  Hello, I have a trading software that gets data from the internet. I want to capture that tick data. There is one software that has been made by a local develop which is able to do that and it looks like it uses DDE (NDde.dll, NetSQL.dll). I want to write a custom application that does the same. Any pointers how I can check how the data is being streamed and how to capture that data. I don't think it is encrypted, since the other developer would not have been able to decrypt either. I just need to scan how the software is getting the data. Thank you.

• How to capture actions taken on Windows Media Player

  Hi, I want to programmtically detect the state of movie currently being played in Windows Media Player. i..e if the movie is maximized I need to find that it is maximized and put the word "MAXIMIZED" in text file, if the movie is paused I need to capture PAUSED in text file, if movie is stopped I need to capture STOPPED in text file. The capturing needs to happen in the background i.e. totally transparent to end user as the user takes action while watching the movie on Windows Media player I am planning to achieve this using Visual Basic 6.0 Kindly provide me inputs / pointers on how to go about this. • VLC opening direct 3d output windows

  As you can in this above image there are two windows of vlc player, I just want to get rid of the other vlc direct3d output window. VLC version is latest i.e. 2.0.1. If I change the video output to some other also; this thing doesn't change. Only the title changes i.e. now it is direct3d output then it will change to openGL or as per the selected output video option. This happens when I play *.mov files.

  My company is serving up deep-zoom maps. We have 100'000s jpg images being served up and was wondering if output caching would be the way to go. Our problem is latency on serving the images. I was wondering if i output caching would indeed improve latency and a general explanation about output caching.
