    I use TightVNC, RealVNC to access the Remote Linux(CentOS,Ubuntu) desktops by running a vncserver on the remote machine. When I connect to those servers from my Windows host: Can I use the Copy/Paste functionality on the VNC client desktop window. i.e. Copy some text on some terminal open inside the VNC client desktop window and paste it into some text file on my local windows machhines and vice-a-versa? I checked TightVNC options but did not see anything. Can it be done by a)Running vncserver on the remote machine with some options or b)By running some configuration on remote machine to enable this. How could I get it done? Also is this kind of Copy/Paste functionality possible in Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop connection/Terminal session protocol?

  • Unable to copy files previously extracted from archives created on a Mac, even after claiming ownership

    I reinstalled Windows on my computer today, and backed up my music to a USB drive. Now, I'm trying to copy the files onto my fresh Windows partition, but I'm unable to copy files that I obtained within my previous Windows installation from zip archives created on Macs. When I try to copy those previously-extracted files, I get an error saying that I need permission from S-1-5-21-...-1000 (a bizarre long ID). The first thing I tried was to take ownership of the files by setting my new user account as the owner, but that resulted in errors saying that I need permission from myself! Some Googling suggested adding antivirus suggestions, so I excluded the relevant folders from Microsoft Security Essentials, but the issue persists. For what it's worth, it seems that some program (so far I've only installed Chrome, Microsoft Security Essentials, and the latest Windows updates) created an empty folder named 601c8c7f0e0c03f725 at the root of my external USB hard drive. What gives?

    Hi All, I'm at the final stage of migrating an old demoted DC server, now I'm stuck in migrating/copying the roaming profiles of the users from the old win2k server (oldServer1) into the new win2k3 server (newServer1) there are lots of profiles which points into the old server: \\oldServer1\profiles\user1 \\oldServer1\profiles\user2 \\oldServer1\profiles\user3 . . . \\oldServer1\profiles\userN in the ProfilePath I'd like to move it into: \\newServer1\profiles\user1 \\newServer1\profiles\user2 \\newServer1\profiles\user3 . . . \\newServer1\profiles\userN I tried to copy paste from my DOMAIN\Administrator account but it is failed to copy ? i cannot even browse inside the directory of user1 until userN ? is there any fastest way to do the copy process rather than "taking ownership" for each of those directory one by one ? [hopefully by taking ownership the user will still be able to use their profile normally] Thanks.

  • MAC OSX 10.5.8 need to save rsync password with ssh-copy-id

    Hello all, I'll start by saying I'm very new to MAC but comfortable in using the command line thanks to using a linux a lot. I currently have rsync setup to run between a MAC OSX 10.5.8 server to a Linux Centos 5.5 Server. This is the command I'm running on the MAC server: rsync -avhe ssh "/Path/To/Data" [email protected]:data/ As it does it prompts for a password but I need it to save the password. After looking around I need to use: ssh-keygen -t dsa save the passkey and then move it over to the Linux server using: ssh-copy-id -i .ssh/id_dsa.pub [email protected] But ssh-copy-id doesnt seem to exist on the MAC server. How do I copy this key over? I've tried searching for the answer myself but the help seems to be all over the place for this.. Any help is greatly appreciated. Scott

Instead I seem to receive a syntax error, and no copy is initiated? These are the commands I run: cd /path/to/transfer/destination debugfs /dev/sda1 -R rdump . . My task is to copy the entire contents of a clean yet unmountable USB storage device to its host machine's HD. The host machine does not support the inode size used by the USB device's filesystem (256) and its software is not upgradeable, so my intention was to use debugfs to transfer the files. If anyone has any other suggestions for this task I'd be grateful.

  • Banshee music file copy to Mac iPhone 4s ios5.1 not permanent

    In Ubuntu 12.04 - When I drag .mp3 files from Banshee 2.6 to my Mac-formatted iPhone 4s ios5.1: a. Banshee says it's syncing with the phone, updating the media database, and the filecount on the phone is incremented; b. The files show up under the device in Banshee and I can play them; c. I can see them on the iPhone in a file browser; d. I can navigate to the iPhone filesystem in a terminal and create a file, so I know I have write permissions. When I disconnect the device in Banshee, it again tells me it's syncing the phone and updating the media database, but I can't find the songs on the phone in iTunes - they are not there when I reconnect the phone to my computer. Am I just being deceived by gvfs? I haven't been able to find a recent post indicating the status of syncing ios5.x devices with Banshee, RhythmBox, etc... Can someone tell me if this should work? Also, I wonder if my iPhone needs to be formatted/initialized by iTunes for Windows, since it has been managed on a Mac? I solved a syncing problem with an older ipod classic which had been managed by iTunes on a Mac, by re-initializing it under iTunes for Windows - perhaps an hfs+ issue. Thanks for any help.

    I am involved on a project to talk to communities about the risks of posting online content is social networks. But this time I was really impressed how far security concerns can go. This video from CBS news talks about security risks related to corporate fax/printers and scanners. It was very clear that when they got the machines they selected the machines by previous owner and they were not random machines, but still, I will never scan from my company machine again.     I installed XBMC and it's working beautifully. I have my own skin I'd like to use and all I should have to do is copy and past my skin.folder into the addons folder and I'm down. However, this isn't so easy with Ubuntu. I have the latest version, installed today 11-14-2012 Could someone please spell out the command process to make this happen? I've read through so many forums, tried ssh, I know now I'm getting into things that could be dangerous so any help would be much appreciated.   • Gparted: Copy Greyed Out

    I booted my system to a gparted linux live CD and I have two partitions: /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 I want to move both of them to my new physical hard drive (called /dev/sdb). When I right click on /dev/sda1, I can choose copy and then paste it onto /dev/sdb. When I right click on /dev/sda2, copy is greyed out and there is a yellow exclamation point to the left of the disk. I know that the disk works since I can boot my computer from it. Why won't gparted let me copy /dev/sda2 to my new hard disk? Since the option is greyed out, I don't even get an error message. Thanks!

I know HTML, PHP, mySQL and some degree of CSS. I don't know JS, Ajax, Jquery. So I want to replicate this web site (save completely) on my local and then modify it. (content, colors, icons etc.) I saved this web site in Chrome and IE. After clicking the site from my local folder, a saw an ugly & non-working site. My aim is to understand the functions of the parts that I don't know. For example when I delete a js in its page what will happen as the result of the deletion operation. Since the page is too complex it has lots of css, js files to download inside. I don't want to deal it manually.     Hi there I'm trying to make a backup/copy of my virtual machine, it's installed in a Windows Server 2000 and I want to make some modifications/tests without changing the original one. The copy is to be used in Windows 7, what I'm trying to do is work/modify an application that communicates with a DB, this application is hosted on the VM, the DB too, and since I don't want to screw up the stable version I want to know how to copy the VM to my desktop pc to experiment without worries. Now, someone told me I might have problems with the IP 'cause the original will have the same IP, and if I change it, it won't work properly. Is this true? If it is indeed true, any suggestions??

  • Copy large files to multiple machines on a LAN

    I have a few large files that I need to copy from one Linux machine to about 20 other Linux machines, all on the same LAN as quickly as is feasible. What tools/methods would be best for copying these files, noting that this is not going to be a one-time copy. These machines will never be connected to the Internet, and security is not an issue. Update: The reason for my asking this is because (as I understand it) we are currently using scp in serial to copy the files to each of the machines and I have been informed that this is "too slow" and a faster alternative is being sought. According to what I have been told, attempting to parallelize the scp calls simply slows it down further due to hard drive seeks.
