• XSP2 crashes serving static images

- by Dawkins
Hi, Requesting a simple HTML page with a jpg image makes XSP2 crash. If I remove the image from the HTML then the page is served OK all the time. The version is XSP2 2.0 mono 2.6.1. the version 2.4.2.2 in the same machine works fine. I have tested it in two different machines, both Windows Vista Business SP1. Anyone has experienced the same? Any clue of what can be the problem? Below is the stack trace displayed by the console: (The line in Spanish says "it has been forced the interruption of an existing connection by the remote host") EDIT: since another user is having the same problem I have submited a bug to Novell and created a litle zip to reproduce the problem: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=582162 Peer unexpectedly closed the connection on write. • How do i close the alert dialog that displays custom view

- by Asdfg
I have an activity named MainActivity which has a button. On click of that button i am displaying an AlertDialog which contains a custom view named ChildWindow.xml. That custom view has multiple textboxes and a OK button. On click of the OK button, i am calling a method of MainActivity. I am able to access the ChildWindow here as view.getRootView().findViewById(R.id.txtFirstName); Once the user clicks on the OK button, i have to close the alert dialog which i am able to do as view.getRootView().setVisibility(View.GONE); My problem is even though i have closed the the ChildWindow in the above statement, i am able to get reference to the textbox in the next line which means AlertDialog is closed but child window is still there. This is how the OK button click looks like: This works as expected: EditText tb = (EditText) view.getRootView().findViewById(R.id.txtFirstName); Toast toast = Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), tb.getText(), Toast.LENGTH_LONG); toast.show(); view.getRootView().setVisibility(View.GONE); This should not work as i am closing the alert dialog and then getting the reference of the textbox but this works too. view.getRootView().setVisibility(View.GONE); EditText tb = (EditText) view.getRootView().findViewById(R.id.txtFirstName); Toast toast = Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), tb.getText(), Toast.LENGTH_LONG); toast.show(); I think i am closing the alert dialog but i am not destroying it from the memory. Can someone point me out what am i missing here?

• XML Pretty Printer Missing 2 Key Edge Cases

- by viatropos
Using this xslt file found on this blog to pretty print xml using Nokogiri, everything almost works, but to the point where I can't use it for HTML. First, if a node is empty, it turns it into a self closing node, so: gets converted to But that messes up the html tree when rendered. Second, if the node just has text, the text isn't tabbed, and the closing node isn't tabbed, so:
some text
becomes:
some text
...but it would ideally be:
some text
Does anyone who's pro at XSLT know a quick fix for this?

• How can I use `pipe` to facilitate interprocess communication in Perl?

- by Shiftbit
Can anyone explain how I can successfully get my processes communicating? I find the perldoc on IPC confusing. What I have so far is: $| = 1; $SIG{CHLD} = {wait}; my $parentPid = $$; if ($pid = fork();) ) { if ($pid == 0) { pipe($parentPid, $$); open PARENT, "<$parentPid"; while (<PARENT>) { print $_; } close PARENT; exit(); } else { pipe($parentPid, $pid); open CHILD, ">$pid"; or error("\nError opening: childPid\nRef: $!\n"); open (FH, "<list") or error("\nError opening: list\nRef: $!\n"); while(<FH>) { print CHILD, $_; } close FH or error("\nError closing: list\nRef: $!\n"); close CHILD or error("\nError closing: childPid\nRef: $!\n); } else { error("\nError forking\nRef: $!\n"); } First: What does perldoc pipe mean by READHANDLE, WRITEHANDLE? Second: Can I implement a solution without relying on CPAN or other modules?

• Detect TCP connection close when playing Flash video

- by JoJo
On the Flash client side, how do I detect when the server purposely closes the TCP connection to its video stream? I'll need to take action when this occurs - maybe attempt to restart the video or display an error message. Currently, the connection closing and the connection being slow look the same to me. The NetStream object ushers a NetStream.Play.Stop event in both cases. When the connection is slow, it usually recovers by itself within seconds. I wish to only take action when the connection is closed, not when it is slow. Here's how my general setup looks like. It's the basic NetConnection-NetStream-Video setup. this.vidConnection = new NetConnection(); this.vidConnection.addEventListener(AsyncErrorEvent.ASYNC_ERROR, this.connectionAsyncError); this.vidConnection.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, this.connectionIoError); this.vidConnection.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, this.connectionNetStatus); this.vidConnection.connect(null); this.vidStream = new NetStream(this.vidConnection); this.vidStream.addEventListener(AsyncErrorEvent.ASYNC_ERROR, this.streamAsyncError); this.vidStream.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, this.streamIoError); this.vidStream.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, this.streamNetStatus); this.vid.attachNetStream(this.vidStream); None of the error events fire when the server closes the TCP or when the connection freezes up. Only the NetStream.Play.Stop event fires. Here's a trace of what happens from initially playing the video to the TCP connection closing. connection net status = NetConnection.Connect.Success playStream(http://192.168.0.44/flv/4d29104a9aefa) NetStream.Play.Start NetStream.Buffer.Flush NetStream.Buffer.Full NetStream.Buffer.Empty checkDimensions 0 0 onMetaData NetStream.Buffer.Full NetStream.Buffer.Flush checkDimensions 960 544 NetStream.Buffer.Empty NetStream.Buffer.Flush NetStream.Play.Stop

• NetBeans parameter fill after code completion

- by byte
This is a particularly annoying problem I'm having, and I can't be the only one to have issue with it. In NetBeans, when you type part of a method, then hit CTRL-SPACE, it displays the code-completion popup, whereupon you can hit tab to finish out the word. This is great, and pretty much how all IDE's operate. Example: Thread.sl < CTRL-SPACE Thread.sleep Yay! Problem is that in this context, once you type in a paren, it auto-fills the parameters for the method with their default names, and inserts a closing paren (regardless of whether you have disabled the option to automatically close them on the preferences page for code completion). This behavior is NOT present if you had manually typed out the full name. How is this helpful to anyone? You've got to type over it your actual variable that you will be passing, and NetBeans gives you no option to prevent the closing paren on code-completion. Does anyone have a way to solve this issue, without having to dive into the netbeans source and build it just for this minor of an issue?

• Flex: Linebreak problem with spark.components.TextArea inside a MXDataGridItemRenderer

- by radgar
Hi, I have a DataGrid that has a MXDataGridItemRenderer applied as an itemEditor to one of the columns. The editor includes a spark.components.TextArea control. By default, any text item editor of a datagrid closes itself when [enter] key is pressed.. Keeping this in mind; What I want to do is: Prevent editor from closing on [SHIFT+ENTER] key but accept the linebreak (I can do this, see code below) Close the editor on [ENTER] key but do not accept the linebreak (could not achieve this) Here is the current code in the MXDataGridItemRenderer: <s:MXDataGridItemRenderer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" focusEnabled="true" > <fx:Script> protected function onTxtDataKeyDown(event:KeyboardEvent):void { //Prevent editor from closing on [SHIFT+ENTER] key but accept the linebreak // » this works if (event.shiftKey && event.keyCode == 13) { event.stopImmediatePropagation(); } //Close the editor on [ENTER] key but do not accept the linebreak else if (event.keyCode == 13) { event.preventDefault(); } // » does not work } </fx:Script> <s:TextArea id="txtData" paddingTop="3" lineBreak="explicit" text="{dataGridListData.label}" verticalScrollPolicy="auto" horizontalScrollPolicy="off" keyDown="onTxtDataKeyDown(event)" /> I also tried the textInput event but that did not do the trick. So: How can I prevent the linebreak when the editor is closed on [enter] key? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. EDIT: If I change the spark.components.TextArea to mx.controls.TextArea, second part with event.preventDefault() will work as expected but then the first part where SHIFT+ENTER accepts the linebreak will not work.

• Excel automation: Close event missing

- by chiccodoro
Another hi all, I am doing Excel automation via Interop in C#, and I want to be informed when a workbook is closed. However, there is no Close event on the workbook nor a Quit event on the application. Has anybody done that before? How can I write a piece of code which reacts to the workbook being closed (which is only executed if the workbook is really closed)? Ideally that should happen after closing the workbook, so I can rely on the file to reflect all changes. Details about what I found so far: There is a BeforeClose() event, but if there are unsaved changes this event is raised before the user being asked whether to save them, so at the moment I can process the event, I don't have the final file and I cannot release the COM objects, both things that I need to have/do. I do not even know whether the workbook will actually be closed, since the user might choose to abort closing. Then there is a BeforeSave() event. So, if the user chooses "Yes" to save unsaved changes, then BeforeSave() is executed after BeforeClose(). However, if the user chooses to "Abort", then hits "file-save", the exact same order of events is executed. Further, if the user chooses "No", the BeforeSave() isn't executed at all. The same holds as long as the user doesn't click any of these options.

• How to send Event signal through Processes - C

- by Jamie Keeling
Hello all! I have an application consisting of two windows, one communicates to the other and sends it a struct constaining two integers (In this case two rolls of a dice). I will be using events for the following circumstances: Process a sends data to process b, process b displays data Process a closes, in turn closing process b Process b closes a, in turn closing process a I have noticed that if the second process is constantly waiting for the first process to send data then the program will be just sat waiting, which is where the idea of implementing threads on each process occurred and I have started to implement this already. The problem i'm having is that I don't exactly have a lot of experience with threads and events so I'm not sure of the best way to actually implement what I want to do. I'm trying to work out how the other process will know of the event being fired so it can do the tasks it needs to do, I don't understand how one process that is separate from another can tell what the states the events are in especially as it needs to act as soon as the event has changed state. Thanks for any help Edit: I can only use the Create/Set/Open methods for events, sorry for not mentioning it earlier.

• Visual Studio / Blend... how you organize that?

- by TomTom
Virst time more complex stuff in WPF. I am a little lost on the split betwen VS and Blend. It seems I am VERY limited with editors in Visual Studio for editing controls - when customizing, for example, it seems I Can enter astyle in XML... but in blend I Can tell it to make a copy of the CURRENT style and use that as a starter, definitely more convenient. I understand the "difference in focus", but it seems to me that i Really need both tools to work, especially if the controls I Do are: More complex Not user controls "on purpose" (to allow more customization by programmes using the application). THis means when I do a control, my approach would be: Work on the backend as good as it gets without front end (i.e. implement all methods needed etc., but can be dummies) Switch over to Blend (closing visual studio - as the projcet must be closed) Put in the initial templating Switch over to VIsual Studio (closing blend) Put logic in and debug. This seems pretty counterintuitively. Am I missing something obvious here?

• Are .NET's regular expressions Turing complete?

- by Robert
Regular expressions are often pointed to as the classical example of a language that is not Turning complete. For example "regular expressions" is given in as the answer to this SO question looking for languages that are not Turing complete. In my, perhaps somewhat basic, understanding of the notion of Turning completeness, this means that regular expressions cannot be used check for patterns that are "balanced". Balanced meaning have an equal number of opening characters as closing characters. This is because to do this would require you to have some kind of state, to allow you to match the opening and closing characters. However the .NET implementation of regular expressions introduces the notion of a balanced group. This construct is designed to let you backtrack and see if a previous group was matched. This means that a .NET regular expressions: ^(?
a)*(?<-p>b)*(?(p)(?!))$ Could match a pattern that: ab aabb aaabbb aaaabbbb ... etc. ... Does this means .NET's regular expressions are Turing complete? Or are there other things that are missing that would be required for the language to be Turing complete?

• C# regular expression for finding forms with input tags in HTML?

- by johnrl
Hi all. I have a simple problem: I want to construct a regex that matches a form in HTML, but only if the form has any input tags. Example: The following should be matched (ignoring attributes): .. .. .. .. But the following should not (ignoring attributes): .. .. .. I have tried everything from look-arounds to capture groups but it quickly gets complicated. I want to believe there is a simple regex to capture the problem. Please note that it is important that the regex pairs the opening and closing tags according to the HTML code which means the following does not work: .+.+ because it matches wrongly like this: .. <--- This is wrongly matched as the opening tag .. <-- This is the correct opening tag of the correct form .. .. <--- This is matched as the closing tag ..

• Process xml-like log file queue

- by Zsolt Botykai
Hi all, first of all: I'm not a programmer, never was, although had learn a lot during my professional carreer as a support consultant. Now my task is to process - and create some statistics about a constantly written and rapidly growing XML like log file. It's not valid XML, because it does not have a proper <root> element, e.g. the log looks like this: <log itemdate="somedate"> <field id="0" /> ... </log> <log itemdate="somedate+1"> <field id="0" /> ... </log> <log itemdate="somedate+n"> <field id="0" /> ... </log> E.g. I have to count all the items with field id=0. But most of the solutions I had found (e.g. using XPath) reports an error about the garbage after the first closing </log>. Most probably I can use python (2.6, although I can compile 3.x as well), or some really old perl version (5.6.x), and recently compiled xmlstarlet which really looks promising - I was able to create the statistics for a certain period after copying the file, and pre- & appending the opening and closing root element. But this is a huge file and copying takes time as well. Isn't there a better solution? Thanks in advance!

• Threshold of blurry image - part 2

- by 1''
How can I threshold this blurry image to make the digits as clear as possible? In a previous post, I tried adaptively thresholding a blurry image (left), which resulted in distorted and disconnected digits (right): Since then, I've tried using a morphological closing operation as described in this post to make the brightness of the image uniform: If I adaptively threshold this image, I don't get significantly better results. However, because the brightness is approximately uniform, I can now use an ordinary threshold: This is a lot better than before, but I have two problems: I had to manually choose the threshold value. Although the closing operation results in uniform brightness, the level of brightness might be different for other images. Different parts of the image would do better with slight variations in the threshold level. For instance, the 9 and 7 in the top left come out partially faded and should have a lower threshold, while some of the 6s have fused into 8s and should have a higher threshold. I thought that going back to an adaptive threshold, but with a very large block size (1/9th of the image) would solve both problems. Instead, I end up with a weird "halo effect" where the centre of the image is a lot brighter, but the edges are about the same as the normally-thresholded image: Edit: remi suggested morphologically opening the thresholded image at the top right of this post. This doesn't work too well. Using elliptical kernels, only a 3x3 is small enough to avoid obliterating the image entirely, and even then there are significant breakages in the digits:

• Match Anything Except a Sub-pattern

- by Tim Lytle
I'd like to accomplish what this (invalid I believe) regular expression tries to do:
([^(<\/a>)]+?)<\/a>
uniquestring Essentially match anything except a closing anchor tag. Simple non-greedy doesn't help here because `uniquestring' may very well be after another distant closing anchor tag:
text I don't <tag>want</tag> to match
random data
text I do <tag>want to</tag> match
uniquestring more matches
of <tag>text I do</tag> want to match
uniquestring So I have more tag in between the anchor tags. And I'm using the presence of uniquestring to determine if I want to match the data. So a simple non-greedy ends up matching everything from the start of the data I don't want to the end of the data I do want. I know I'm edging close to the problems regular expressions (or at least my knowledge of them) aren't good at solving. I could just through the data at an HTML/XML parser, but it is just one simple(ish) search. Is there some easy way to do this that I'm just missing?

• Does Monitor.Wait ensure that fields are re-read?

- by Marc Gravell
It is generally accepted (I believe!) that a lock will force any values from fields to be reloaded (essentially acting as a memory-barrier or fence - my terminology in this area gets a bit loose, I'm afraid), with the consequence that fields that are only ever accessed inside a lock do not themselves need to be volatile. (If I'm wrong already, just say!) A good comment was raised here, questioning whether the same is true if code does a Wait() - i.e. once it has been Pulse()d, will it reload fields from memory, or could they be in a register (etc). Or more simply: does the field need to be volatile to ensure that the current value is obtained when resuming after a Wait()? Looking at reflector, Wait calls down into ObjWait, which is managed internalcall (the same as Enter). The scenario in question was: bool closing; public bool TryDequeue(out T value) { lock (queue) { // arbitrary lock-object (a private readonly ref-type) while (queue.Count == 0) { if (closing) { // <==== (2) access field here value = default(T); return false; } Monitor.Wait(queue); // <==== (1) waits here } ...blah do something with the head of the queue } } Obviously I could just make it volatile, or I could move this out so that I exit and re-enter the Monitor every time it gets pulsed, but I'm intrigued to know if either is necessary.

• how to Add-in load again n again for every instance of an application?

- by Ashwin Upadhyay
I have one qus. i created one shared add-in in c#.net. This add-in is working fine. now i want this add-in is load again n again when any office application is opened. For e.g. when i open any MS word document then add-in is load for that and if after that i opened another MS word document without closing previously opened document then add-in is again load for newly opend MS word document. But when i opened MS word at first time the add-in is load and if i opened MS word again but add-in is already loaded. my requirement is like that-my add-in is worked backgroundly that is its work only to record the opening, closing time of the word document and how much time spend onto that word document and also the name of this document. But when i opened one word document then add-in is loaded for that and if againg opened new word document then becaz of previously opened document add-in is not load for that document remember that priviously opened document is not closed. but if i closed previously opened document then for new document add-in is load.

• What is the correct way to open and close window/dialog?

- by mree
I'm trying to develop a new program. The work flow looks like this: Login --> Dashboard (Window with menus) --> Module 1 --> Module 2 --> Module 3 --> Module XXX So, to open Dashboard from Login (a Dialog), I use Dashboard *d = new Dashboard(); d->show(); close(); In Dashboard, I use these codes to reopen the Login if the user closes the Window (by clicking the 'X') closeEvent(QCloseEvent *) { Login *login = new Login(); login->show(); } With a Task Manager opened, I ran the program and monitor the memory usage. After clicking open Dashboard from Login and closing Dashboard to return to Login, I noticed that the memory keeps increasing about 500 KB. It can goes up to 20 MB from 12 MB of memory usage by just opening and closing the window/dialog. So, what did I do wrong here ? I need to know it before I continue developing those modules which will definitely eat more memory with my programming. Thanks in advance.

• Tracking changed (unsaved) objects

- by Eric
I have a class which is serialized to and from an XML file when the user decided to open or save. I'm trying to add the typical functionality where when they try to close the form with un-saved changes the form warns them and gives them the option of saving before closing. I've added a HasUnsavedChanges property to my class, which my form checks before closing. However, it's a little annoying that my properties have changed from something like this .. public string Name { get; set; } to this... private string _Name; public string Name { get { return _Name; } set { this._Name = value; this.HasUnsavedChanges = true; } } Is there a better way to track changes to an instance of a class? For example is there some standard way I can "hash" an instance of a class into a value that I can use to compare the most recent version with the saved version without mucking up every property in the class?

• Google Anlytics event not firing

- by yar1
I am not getting and event data in GA. I installed Google Analytics Debugger Chrome extension and I see nothing happening (same goes when looking at Network panel in developer tools). I Googled it and read many (many) other answers and it looks like I'm doing things right. Page views, etc. are registering correctly... I have this code as the last thing before my closing tag: My event handlers are done using jQuery, all inside an external js file, loaded before the closing tag. For example: $(function () { $('#show-less').click(function (e) { pbr.showHideMore(e); _gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'ShowMore', 'Hide', 'top button']); }); }); Any ideas anyone?
