  • How can I make two "user" editable areas in Wordpress?

    Hi all, is there a way to have two posting areas in Wordpress, for clients who can not go into any HTML? Basically the template has 3 columns. One is vertical nav, thats no prob. Second is like a "sidebar" but where the main post will go, a skinny column. Third is large, "main area" size, but will also be user editable content. Does that make sense? Has anyone done something like this before? Thank you.

    I've upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 beta 1 and PHP got upgraded from 5.2 to 5.3 Now all my WordPress & Magento sites arent working. I tried retrieving the URL headers from the command line, but HTTP request fails. Utilizing get_headers in a small script, PHP Warning: get_headers(http://local.vhosts1.com): failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! in get_headers.php on line 12 But HTTP request fails only for WordPress and Magento based sites - not custom written ones. Does this probably have to do with some htaccess directive ?

  • How Do I Detect A WordPress Admin Panel in my Plugin?

    I've got two events in my plugin. One is run for the front-end. The other is run for the admin panel. Both call the same function in one particular situation, and this echoes stuff to the screen. How do I make it such that the function is smart, calls something in WordPress, and detects whether it's being loaded in the front-end versus the admin panel? I don't want it to echo stuff to the screen on the front-end, but do want it to do so on the admin panel. Right now, it's echoing on both, which is not what I want. Background For the front end (the side of the site that the visitor sees), I'm intercepting the 'wp' event and checking for: ( is_single() || is_page() || is_home() || is_archive() || is_category() || is_tag()) For the admin panel, I'm intercepting the 'admin_menu' event. I tried intercepting the is_*() stuff above, but it seems to somehow answer TRUE or something, not giving me a difference between front-end and admin panel.

  • Mantaining Wordpress website with subversion

    I want to setup a website using wordpress, which we can modified locally and then via subversion commit the site and make it public. This means to installing new plugins, changing the content, testing updates of wordpress to see if they work with the theme, etc. The idea is to control the development on the site, in case we need to keep track of the dev or roll back, because of unexpected bugs in a the plugins, theme, etc. I've read this article in codex, however I'm not sure how this is done when, we want to include the content and changes on the options of worpdress and plugins (which is in the mysql).     I'm using Master Page in my ASP.net application, in the master page I put a ContentPlaceHolder in Update Panel to support AJAX in child pages, the question is how to stop Refreshing "master page controls" while navigating between pages? For navigation between pages I tried to use Response.Redirect, windows.location java script with no success, shall I use the Frames or IFrames instead of Master Pages to stop Refreshing? any suggestion to solve this issue will be highly appreciated, Thanks in advance...

Here you can select whether to apply changes to all image sizes or make the thumbnail different. This is exactly what I'd like to do, except for the fact that I don't want Wordpress to scale it down to 150x150 pixels (or another predefined resolution). I'd just like to display a cropped (and therefore smaller) version of the picture which is then linked to the (uncropped) original. I also tried to set the thumbnails' width and height to 0 in the preferences. Then, however, I don't even get the chance to assign a cropped version as thumbnail in the editor. Could you tell me how to achieve that? Or isn't it possible at all?

    I come to you because I'm facing a really strange effect on my hosting. I currently manage a server contening a NGINX/PHP-CGI and a wordpress multisite in it. My sites are created using subsite.domaine.tld, for now, my three subsites are correctly accessibles through the url: subsite.domain.tld. My goal is to allow my subsite on the host domain to be access through their respective unique domain. For exemple: www.domainA.com would redirect to subsite1.host.domain.tld. If I do that using the following setting on the domainA Public DNS: www 10800 IN CNAME subsite1.host.domain.tld. When I try to access www.domainA.com I don't go to subsite1.host.domain.tld but instead I'm redirect to the Wordpress ROOT site where I create my Network (host.domain.tld). Is there a trick to deal with?

    I am using the latest Wordpress and I have always had issues with the automatic updater. For the files in the wordpress directory, i set them to permission 770, and add the webserver user 'www-data' as the group owner. I use lighttpd. However, the automatic updating plugins or installing plugins does not work. It works if I chmod 777 the files or if I set the actual owner to the web server as well. What are the best permission settings for security while still allowing the updating feature to work properly in wordress? Also, by 'not work' i mean, it will go to the screen that asks me for FTP credentials when I try to update.

    Hi All, I have to install wordpress (One Blog, one domain, for e.g. mycompany.com/blog) on two servers sharing one database on a different server, these two servers are behind a loadbalancer and the db would be on another server. We are planning this way due to high traffic. I have done standalone wordpress installations on a single server, on windows 2003, 2008 with IIS6, 7 etc I am just researching as to how would I implement this. What would be the steps to achieve this and upon searching I saw some posts regarding the wp-content/uploads directory to be synced at regular intervals ? your help much appreciated Thanks for reading

  • Node.js apps and wordpress on the same vps

    So currently my linode (ubuntu 11.10) serves up three node.js apps for me using connect's vhost middleware listening on port 80. Here is an example of how vhost sets up a domain: var portfolio = require('./bootstrap-portfolio/lib/app.js'); var server = express(); server.use(express.vhost('sencedev.com',portfolio)); server.use(express.vhost('www.sencedev.com',portfolio)); server.listen(80); However I would now like to add a wordpress installation to my vps as well. In the past for me this has meant a traditional apache installation; however I'm a bit unsure of how node.js + a different webserver (apache or nginx) should interact. Any thoughts on how I should approach hosting wordpress + node.js on the same box?

    I need to set up a Django site at the root of a domain, but then have a Wordpress installation in a subdirectly (e.g. /blog/). How would one configure NGinX to do this? "Pretty" URLs have to work for Wordpress as well. For Django I am using Gunicorn, which is already configured. From NGinX I would call "proxy_pass" to direct to that. PHP is run via FPM. Considering the restrictions above, how would I configure NGinX? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

  • Self hosted Wordpress freezes for 20 seconds before sending the page

    I have a website with Wordpress and PHPBB integrated - and it's been fine for months.. then all of a sudden, it's unbelievably slow to load. There are no errors in the apache logs, but looking at the page in firebug shows a 20 second pause, before the page is delivered. more confusing, on the same server, same apache installation, PHPBB loads in 30ms, no delay. I tried the hogdetector wordpress plugin, which indicates that the delay is before the header is sent - which seems to agree with firebug. Any ideas how to troubleshoot this one further?

    I have a wordpress website. I upload my pictures to the media library. And when I import a picture in a post, you get the options, one of which ask you what size to display it in. And doing this results in creating a new image file that is a different size, rather than wordpress using html to control the size of the image.     I am currently setting up a simple Wordpress website. I am attempting to set a specific page as the Static Home page. I have read wordpress documentation on setting the homepage, and upon load, it directs to the correct page, but does not replace the previous home page.   • Migrating My GWB Blog Over To WordPress

    Geeks With Blogs has been good to me, but there are too many tempting things about Word Press for me to stay with GWB.  Particularly their statistics features, and also I like that I can apply specific tags to my posts to make them easier to find in Google (and I never was able to get categories working on GWB). The one thing I don’t like about WordPress is I can’t seem to find a theme that stretches the Content area to take up the rest of the space on wide resolutions…..hopefully I’ll be able to overcome that obstacle soon though. For those who are curious as to how I actually moved all of my posts across, I ended up just using Live Writer to open my GWB posts, and then just changed it to publish to my WordPress blog.  This was fairly painless, but with my 27 posts it took probably about 2 hours of manual effort to do.  Most of the time WordPress was automatically able to copy the images over, but sometimes I had to save the pics from my GWB posts and then re-add them in Live Writer to my WordPress post.  I found another developers automated solution (in alpha mode), but opted to do it manually since I wanted to manually specify Categories and Tags on each post anyways.  The one thing I still have left to do is move the worthwhile comments across from the GWB posts to the new WordPress posts. The largest pain point was that with GWB I was using the Code Snippet Plugin for Live Writer for my source code snippets, and when they got transferred over to WordPress they looked horrible.  So I ended up finding a new Live Writer plugin called SyntaxHighlighter that looks even nicer on my posts If anybody knows of a nice WordPress theme that stretches the content area to fit the width of the screen, please let me know.  All of the themes I’ve found seem to have a max width set on them, so I end up with much wasted space on the left and right sides.  Since I post lots of code snippets, the more horizontal space the better! Is there any other way of doing this? I'm thinking of the following, but the current setup is really the most convenient one since I also have to use the data on the client side: store the product details in a file. So something like ASIN123.json store the product details in one big file.     Hi I am developing a web application which has form based authentication. All pages needs to be authenticated except AboutUs and ContactUs pages. I configured everything correct except AboutUs and ContactUs pages. Since I am denying all users in authorization section, application is redirecting even if the customer browse AboutUs and ContactUs pages.
