• problem in loading images from web

    - by Lynnooi
    hi, I am new in android and had developed an app which get images from the website and display it. I got it working in emulator but not in real phones. In some device, it will crash or take very long loading period. Can anyone please help me or guide me in improving it as i'm not sure whether the way i loads the images is correct or not. Here are the code i use to get the images from the web and display accordingly. if (xmlURL.length() != 0) { try { URL url = new URL(xmlURL); SAXParserFactory spf = SAXParserFactory.newInstance(); SAXParser sp = spf.newSAXParser(); /* Get the XMLReader of the SAXParser we created. */ XMLReader xr = sp.getXMLReader(); /* * Create a new ContentHandler and apply it to the * XML-Reader */ xr.setContentHandler(myExampleHandler); /* Parse the xml-data from our URL. */ xr.parse(new InputSource(url.openStream())); /* Parsing has finished. */ /* * Our ExampleHandler now provides the parsed data to * us. */ ParsedExampleDataSet parsedExampleDataSet = myExampleHandler.getParsedData(); } catch (Exception e) { } } if (s.equalsIgnoreCase("wallpapers")) { Context context = helloAndroid.this.getBaseContext(); for (int j = 0; j <= myExampleHandler.filenames.size() - 1; j++) { if (myExampleHandler.filenames.elementAt(j).toString() != null) { helloAndroid.this.ed = myExampleHandler.thumbs.elementAt(j) .toString(); if (helloAndroid.this.ed.length() != 0) { Drawable image = ImageOperations(context, helloAndroid.this.ed, "image.jpg"); file_info = myExampleHandler.filenames .elementAt(j).toString(); author = "\nby " + myExampleHandler.authors.elementAt(j) .toString(); switch (j + 1) { case 1: ImageView imgView1 = new ImageView(context); imgView1 = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.image1); if (image.getIntrinsicHeight() > 0) { imgView1.setImageDrawable(image); } else imgView1 .setImageResource(R.drawable.empty_wallpaper); tv = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.filename1); tv.setText(file_info); tv = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.author1); tv.setText(author); imgView1 .setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View view) { // Perform action on click Intent myIntent1 = new Intent( helloAndroid.this, galleryFile.class); Bundle b = new Bundle(); b.putString("fileID",myExampleHandler.fileid.elementAt(0).toString()); b.putString("page", "1"); b.putString("family", s); b.putString("fi",myExampleHandler.folder_id.elementAt(folder).toString()); b.putString("kw", keyword); myIntent1.putExtras(b); startActivityForResult( myIntent1, 0); } }); break; case 2: ImageView imgView2 = new ImageView(context); imgView2 = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.image2); imgView2.setImageDrawable(image); tv = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.filename2); tv.setText(file_info); tv = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.author2); tv.setText(author); imgView2 .setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View view) { // Perform action on click Intent myIntent1 = new Intent( helloAndroid.this, galleryFile.class); Bundle b = new Bundle(); b.putString("fileID",myExampleHandler.fileid.elementAt(1).toString()); b.putString("page", "1"); b.putString("family", s); b.putString("fi",myExampleHandler.folder_id.elementAt(folder).toString()); b.putString("kw", keyword); myIntent1.putExtras(b); startActivityForResult( myIntent1, 0); } }); break; case 3: //same code break; } } } } } private Drawable ImageOperations(Context ctx, String url, String saveFilename) { try { InputStream is = (InputStream) this.fetch(url); Drawable d = Drawable.createFromStream(is, "src"); return d; } catch (MalformedURLException e) { e.printStackTrace(); return null; } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); return null; } } public Object fetch(String address) throws MalformedURLException, IOException { URL url = new URL(address); Object content = url.getContent(); return content; }

  • Intermittent Internet Explorer Error whilst using Javascript to traverse XML Nodes

    - by Sykth
Hi there all, Basically I use a javascript SOAP plugin to send and receive XML from a web service. Recently I've been experiencing intermittment (1 in every 20-30 times) errors in IE when trying to access data in the XML file. Bear with me on this, I'm going to try and go into a fair amount of detail to help anyone who is willing to read this: I have a html file, with an external javascript file attached. In the javascript file I include 5 global variables: var soapRes; var questionXML; var xRoot; var assessnode; var edStage = 0; Once the html file is at a readystate I request the XML file from the web service like this: function initNextStage(strA) { // Set pl Parameters here var pl = new SOAPClientParameters(); // soap call var r = SOAPClient.invoke(url, "LoadAssessment", pl, true, initStage_callBack); } function initStage_callBack(r, soapResponse) { soapRes = soapResponse; initvalues(); function initvalues(){ xRoot = soapRes.documentElement; assessnode = xRoot.getElementsByTagName("ed")[0]; questionXML = assessnode.getElementsByTagName("question")[edStage]; } } Once this is completed the XML should be loaded into memory via the global variable soapRes. I then save values to the XML before moving one node down the XML tree, and pulling the next set of values out of it. function submitAns1() { var objAns; var corElem; var corElemTxt; questionXML = assessnode.getElementsByTagName("question")[edStage]; objAns = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("item")[0].getAttribute("answer"); corElem = soapRes.createElement("correct"); corElemTxt = soapRes.createTextNode("value"); questionXML.appendChild(corElem); corElem.appendChild(corElemTxt); if(objAns == "t") { corElemTxt.nodeValue = "true"; } else { corElemTxt.nodeValue = "false"; } edStage++; questionXML = assessnode.getElementsByTagName("question")[edStage]; var inc1 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("sentence")[0]; var inc2 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("sentence")[1]; var edopt1 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("item")[0]; var edopt2 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("item")[1]; var edopt3 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("item")[2]; var edopt4 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("item")[3]; var edopt5 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("item")[4]; var temp1 = edopt1.childNodes[0].nodeValue; var temp2 = edopt2.childNodes[0].nodeValue; var temp3 = edopt3.childNodes[0].nodeValue; var temp4 = edopt4.childNodes[0].nodeValue; var temp5 = edopt5.childNodes[0].nodeValue; } This is an example of our XML: <ed> <appid>Administrator</appid> <formid>ED009</formid> <question id="1"> <sentence id="1">[email protected]</sentence> <sentence id="2">[email protected]</sentence>
0

1

2

3

4
</question> <question id="2"> <sentence id="1">Beausdene 13</sentence> <sentence id="2">Beauscene 83</sentence>
0

1

2

3

4
</question> </ed> The error I receive intermittently is that "questionXML" is null or not an object. Specifically this line when I call on the submitAns1() method: questionXML = assessnode.getElementsByTagName("question")[edStage]; This solution works on FF, Opera, Chrome & Safari without any issues as far as I am aware. Am I accessing the XML nodes incorrectly? I've been toying with fixes for this bug for weeks now, I'd really appreciate any insight into what I'm doing wrong. On a side note, this is a personal project of mine - it's not university related - I'm much too old for that! Any help greatly appreciated. Regards, Sykth.

  • Help Writing Input Data to Database With Wordpress Plugin

Hi I am making a wordpress plugin where I need the Admin to enter data into a database table. I am able to install the db table when the Plugin is activated, however I can't figure out how to save the user input. I've asked on the WP forums but they're dead... • Sharing code in LGPL and proprietary software

    - by Martin
Hi I'm working on a piece of software that'll be released as a dll under LGPL. The software interfaces with hardware from a small company that has provided me with the needed libraries and some code to use them correctly (not only headers but its all in a separate file). As far as i know, the same code is used in their proprietary software that they don't intend to open source but they'd be fine releasing the piece of code they've given me. Now here's the question: What license could be used on the code I got from the company? I guess using GPL or LGPL would make them violate GPL when using the same code in their other software. Is MIT a good idea? Is it ok to just include a file with MIT license on it in my otherwise LGPL:ed project? Since I'm not the copyright holder, I'd have to ask the company to apply the license obviously but that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks /Martin

  • What are the leading professional journals in software development?

    - by Austin Hyde
In one of my classes, we were asked to research the top professional journals in our field. According to what I can dig up, the ACM and IEEE journals are the "best", as they come up at the top of my searches and this question. However, there are a dozen or so individually topic-ed journals for each, with no very clear measure of which one is most useful, popular, etc. For example, "IEEE Software" vs. "IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering". So, what do you consider to be the "leading" professional journals (specifically), and why? It doesn't have to be only ACM or IEEE, either. If you know of another, please add it.

  • EHome IR receiver and Ubuntu 13 - any one have this working?

    - by squakie
I have a "generic" USB IR receiver I purchased off of Ebay to make my life a little easier with XBMC on my Ubuntu box. I am currently running 13.10 and have never tried nor have any knowledge of IR in Ubuntu. I know of lirc, and I know a lot of it is now included in the kernel. My understanding is that lirc in basic terms maps pulses from an remote control to functions - like keyboard or mouse clicks. It is also my understanding that I might still need a driver or something for my device. lsusb shows the device as: Bus 006 Device 003: ID 147a:e016 Formosa Industrial Computing, Inc. eHome Infrared Receiver dmesg shows the following pertaining to the device: [43635.311985] usb 6-2: USB disconnect, device number 2 [43641.344387] usb 6-2: new full-speed USB device number 3 using ohci-pci [43641.543454] usb 6-2: New USB device found, idVendor=147a, idProduct=e016 [43641.543467] usb 6-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [43641.543473] usb 6-2: Product: eHome Infrared Transceiver [43641.543478] usb 6-2: Manufacturer: Formosa21 [43641.543483] usb 6-2: SerialNumber: FM000623 [43641.555736] Registered IR keymap rc-rc6-mce [43641.555968] input: Media Center Ed. eHome Infrared Remote Transceiver (147a:e016) as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:12.0/usb6/6-2/6-2:1.0/rc/rc2/input15 [43641.556221] rc2: Media Center Ed. eHome Infrared Remote Transceiver (147a:e016) as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:12.0/usb6/6-2/6-2:1.0/rc/rc2 [43641.556584] input: MCE IR Keyboard/Mouse (mceusb) as /devices/virtual/input/input16 [43641.557186] rc rc2: lirc_dev: driver ir-lirc-codec (mceusb) registered at minor = 0 [43641.731965] mceusb 6-2:1.0: Registered Formosa21 eHome Infrared Transceiver with mce emulator interface version 1 [43641.731978] mceusb 6-2:1.0: 2 tx ports (0x0 cabled) and 2 rx sensors (0x0 active) (excuse the double spacing, but I had to put in extra cr/lf using "enter" or the entire thing was just one long unreadable string). When I connect the same IR receiver to a Raspberry Pi running OpenELEC/XBMC there is no flashing led unless I press a remote button, and the device works. In Ubuntu, the led is constantly blinking, and nothing happens when I press a remote key. I tried the command line program to test but it never echoes anything back to the terminal window. I believe it must need some sort of driver or something else, but I am completely in the dark on this. • Getting started as a programmer -- school or self-study?

    - by Cyberherbalist
My son who has is married with two small children has decided that he needs a change of career, and is considering getting into programming. He would do well in the field, I am certain, but I am uncertain how to advise him with regards to a lengthy course of schooling, or just try to learn 'on the job", so to speak. I suspect that if he doesn't ultimately get at least an associate degree in program (like his old man), that his job possibilities are going to be very constrained. This isn't the Dot-Com Bubble, after all, when they'd hire you if you could spell c-o-m-p-u-t-e-r because they needed bodies and the ability to fog a mirror wasn't quite enough. Should he go for a full program at the university, a two-year program (he already has a 2-year degree in video production, so he's got the general ed requirements whipped), or does anyone think self-study alone might be enough? To get started, anyway. I started back in 1987 with COBOL and a 2-year degree, which seemed the minimum at the time, but perhaps things are different now?

  • JSF 2.2 recent progress - Early Draft

    - by alexismp
JSF specification lead Ed Burns has an update on the progress of JSF 2.2, another component which should be required as part of the upcoming Java EE 7 standard. This includes a reminder of the scope of this specification, the availability of the early draft and height specific features that are being worked on and split into "Mostly Specified Features" and "Not Yet Fully Specified Features" (I think you can read the latter as "at risk"). My favorite is "763-EverythingIsInjectable". Remember that JSF 2.2 is due out in the middle of 2012 which is in time to be integrated in the Java EE 7 platform JSR (currently scheduled for second half of 2012). In the mean time, JSF 2.2 nightly builds are available.

  • OS Analytics Post and Discussion

    - by Owen Allen
Eran Steiner has written an interesting piece over on the Enterprise Manager blog about the OS Analytics feature of Ops Center. OS Analytics gives you a huge amount of information about the characteristics of managed operating systems and lets you track changes to these characteristics over time. Take a look; it's a useful feature. The OS Analytics feature is also the subject of the community call this week (Eran is leading that one too). It's at 11 am EST. • PeopleSoft at Alliance 2012 Executive Forum

    - by John Webb
Guest Posting From Rebekah Jackson This week I jointed over 4,800 Higher Ed and Public Sector customers and partners in Nashville at our annual Alliance conference. I got lost easily in the hallways of the sprawling Gaylord Opryland Hotel. I carried the resort map with me, and I would still stand for several minutes at a very confusing junction, studying the map and the signage on the walls. Hallways led off in many directions, some with elevators going down here and stairs going up there. When I took a wrong turn I would instantly feel stuck, lose my bearings, and occasionally even have to send out a call for help. It strikes me that the theme for the Executive Forum this year outlines a less tangible but equally disorienting set of challenges that our higher education customer’s CIOs are facing: Making Decisions at the Intersection of Business Value, Strategic Investment, and Enterprise Technology. The forces acting upon higher education institutions today are not neat, straight-forward decision points, where one can glance to the right, glance to the left, and then quickly choose the best course of action. The operational, technological, and strategic factors that must be considered are complex, interrelated, messy…and the stakes are high. Michael Horn, co-author of “Disrupting Class: How Disruptive Innovation Will Change the Way the World Learns”, set the tone for the day. He introduced the model of disruptive innovation, which grew out of the research he and his colleagues have done on ‘Why Successful Organizations Fail’. Highly simplified, the pattern he shared is that things start out decentralized, take a leap to extreme centralization, and then experience progressive decentralization. Using computers as an example, we started with a slide rule, then developed the computer which centralized in the form of mainframes, and gradually decentralized to mini-computers, desktop computers, laptops, and now mobile devices. According to Michael, you have more computing power in your cell phone than existed on the planet 60 years ago, or was on the first rocket that went to the moon. Applying this pattern to Higher Education means the introduction of expensive and prestigious private universities, followed by the advent of state schools, then by community colleges, and now online education. Michael shared statistics that indicate 50% of students will be taking at least one on line course by 2014…and by some measures, that’s already the case today. The implication is that technology moves from being the backbone of the campus, the IT department’s domain, and pushes into the academic core of the institution. Innovative programs are underway at many schools like Bellevue and BYU Idaho, joined by startups and disruptive new players like the Khan Academy. This presents both threat and opportunity for higher education institutions, and means that IT decisions cannot afford to be disconnected from the institution’s strategic plan. Subsequent sessions explored this theme. Theo Bosnak, from Attain, discussed the model they use for assessing the complete picture of an institution’s financial health. Compounding the issue are the dramatic trends occurring in technology and the vendors that provide it. Ovum analyst Nicole Engelbert, shared her insights next and suggested that incremental changes are no longer an option, instead fundamental changes are affecting the landscape of enterprise technology in higher ed. Nicole closed with her recommendation that institutions focus on the trends in higher education with an eye towards the strategic requirements and business value first. Technology then is the enabler. The last presentation of the day was from Tom Fisher, Sr. Vice President of Cloud Services at Oracle. Tom runs the delivery arm of the Cloud Services group, and shared his thoughts candidly about his experiences with cloud deployments as well as key issues around managing costs and security in cloud deployments. Okay, we’ve covered a lot of ground at this point, from financials planning, business strategy, and cloud computing, with the possibility that half of the institutions in the US might not be around in their current form 10 years from now. Did I forget to mention that was raised in the morning session? Seems a little hard to believe, and yet Michael Horn made a compelling point. Apparently 100 years ago, 8 of the top 10 education institutions in the world were German. Today, the leading German school is ranked somewhere in the 40’s or 50’s. What will the landscape be 100 years from now? Will there be an institution from China, India, or Brazil in the top 10? As Nicole suggested, maybe US parents will be sending their children to schools overseas much sooner, faced with the ever-increasing costs of a US based education. Will corporations begin to view skill-based certification from an online provider as a viable alternative to a 4 year degree from an accredited institution, fundamentally altering the education industry as we know it?

    - by Chris Williams
I just put the finishing touches on another article for my Code Magazine column: Embracing Community. You won't see this one until around July, but it focuses on a subject near and dear to my heart: Code Camps! At the end of the article, I mention that I'm interested in hearing some of your war stories about community and what you do to be a part of it. I'll be talking to people at Tech Ed 2010 and Codestock, but I would also like to hear from some of you that read this blog. If you have an interesting story to share, drop me a line (via this blog) and tell me about it. You never know, it just might end up in my column.

It's no surprise I guess. Go here to try it! http://www.belgeler.com/blg/2hni/griffiths-introduction-to-electrodynamics-3-ed-solutions-manual It's wonderful, after a few seconds, top shows that our good friend plugin-container takes 83% of the physical memory (8 GB) before everything freezes and the PC doesn't respond. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 and I have an nvidia (GTS 250) card with the "post-release updates" version of the driver. OFFTOPIC: Yes, it's the solutions manual. I'm self-studying so I don't have a professor to check my work. Please don't judge me :)

  • Making your ASP.NET/HTML Websites Indic aware – accepting Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and ot

    - by Harish Ranganathan
Its been a month since I wrote my last post. Much of work has been happening around planning for Tech Ed India, the upcoming Virtual TechDays this week as well as our Developer content at the Great Indian Developer Summit 2010. Its going to be one exciting period starting this week and I am glad I would be able to meet a lot of folks who have written to me personally that they would like to catch up at Tech Ed India. For now, I had a chance to meet the Microsoft India Development Centre team that worked on the Microsoft Indic Language Input Tool (erstwhile Akshara). The team updated me that they have also released the scripts so that the Indic input feature can be encapsulated into your own websites. For example, if you are having a web page where you collect user information, you can pretty much make your site indic aware i.e. accept inputs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi etc., All you would need to include would be a bunch of scripts onto your web pages and you are ready to make it, like I said, “indic aware” I have built a sample web page that accepts First Name, Last Name, Address and an additional field. When it comes to accepting indic, sometimes, you may want to avoid the indic input in certain fields and accept it in English. You can specify the MicrosoftILITWebAttach="false" attribute to the Text Boxes and Text Areas (TextMode=”Multiline” in ASP.NET) so that the particular field automatically switches over to English input. Similarly, the moment you specify that the TextMode=”Password” to make it as a password field, it automatically ignores all indic recognition and shows the masked dots for the words entered. Note that, this is, when we are going for the Opt-out mode, where we are specifying that by default all the input controls would need indic awareness and we would specify for those controls where it is not required. The other mode is Opt-in mode where you would need to add a different property to the script definition i.e. attachMode=”optin” . When we do this, we need to explicitly add the MicrosoftILITWebAttach="true" attribute for every control where we need indic input. I have created a sample web page which accepts First Name, Last Name, Address and an additional input field to demonstrate the “Opt-out”. You can copy paste this into any of your web pages to check it

         Welcome to the Registration Page

         First Name: <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="txtFirstName" />

Last Name: <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="txtLastName" />

Password: <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="txtPassword" TextMode="Password" />

Address: <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="txtAddress" TextMode="MultiLine" Height="100" Width="200" />

English Text: <asp:TextBox ID="txtEnglishText" runat="server" MicrosoftILITWebAttach="false" />

If you note the code snippet above, I have included the scripts in the top with the attachMode set to “optout” and for the last TextBox, I have mentioned the MicrosoftILITWebAttach="false” attribute to make it accept English input. Additionally, you also need to add the “Microsoft Indic Language Input Tool attribution image” to your web page as a courtesy to the team that developed this feature. It would basically add a image saying “Transliteration by Microsoft” similar to a Copy Right image. You can see the screen shot below where I have typed it in Tamil. In that you will notice that the password field behaves as expected and the last field accepts English Text. You can also notice the icon that comes in the first textbox that indicates that, the field is going to accept indic text. This sample is using Tamil, but you can pretty much do it for Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali etc., The website for getting the Indic script and other instructions is http://specials.msn.co.in/ilit/WebEmbed.aspx?language=Tamil You can replace the querystring value “Tamil” to other languages as mentioned above to get the respective script. This also works for plain HTML based websites and doesn’t necessarily need you to use ASP.NET to achieve the functionality. Note that, this form is not completely localized. This is transliterated. You can add label controls for FirstName, LastName indication etc., and use the Visual Studio tools to localize and get those values from resource files. In the resource files, you can enter the text in different languages to make this a truly localized page. If you just want to download the Indic Tool Desktop version (that can be used for typing in Word, Excel, pretty much any input area), you can download it from http://specials.msn.co.in/ilit/ In the same page, there is also a web version where you can type and get text then and there if you dont want to install the desktop version. So, go ahead, download / use them in your websites and enjoy the power of Indic. Cheers !!!

  • Seminario "ABC - Activity Based Costing in Italia"

    - by claudiac.caramelli

  • Software Productivity Tools-> The Missing Link?

In an op-ed piece in this months SD Times, I make the argument that software development productivity tools have evolved over the years to become more mainstream. I make the case that while some developers shun tools, in reality they take for granted the tools they are using today that were not available 10 years or so ago, or were not that mature. For example today we use some tools without even thinking such as: SCM, build management, standards enforcement, ORM and UI components. Tools today save a team a tremendous amount of time and are the missing link in the software development process. You can get the March issue of SD Times on the newsstands today or read my article online here.
