  • STARTTLS issues with sendmail

    I just switch hosts and now have to configure sendmail with certificates in order to send mail. Is there anyone here that can point me to some solid documentation that is known to work? I'm on CentOS, using sendmail 8.13. I am currently trying to figure out why I am getting "Relaying denied. Proper authentication required". I'd be happy to post my mc file if someone thinks thay can help..

  • SSD Fresh Does Not Start

    I recently installed a new 60GB SSD as my primary hard drive and re-installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I then installed SSD Fress from Abelssoft to optimize Windows to run on the SSD. It seemed to install okay, but when I try to run the utility, its splash screen appears briefly before it quietly closes. No errors are displayed; the utility just fails to launch. I have run SSD Fresh on another SSD-equipped Windows 7 Pro x64 computer in the past without any problems. Does anyone know what might be preventing the program from running? I tried shutting down the Spybot Resident and disabling the firewall and virus scanner with no luck. I also tried running the tool as administrator; I even tried reinstalling it, running the installer as administrator. No luck.   • How can I setup BluePill to Monitor a Rails App Running via Passenger (mod_rails)

    I recently launched a site running phusion passenger. Unfortunately, the site went down due to a frozen thread. I was able to save the server by doing kill -9 to the specific PID. Still though, I thought passenger was able to manage this automatically. I have a server with 1GB of memory running one rails app with passenger allotted up to 7 instances. However, when I came to discover the site went down I found that passenger had spawned 6 instances with one of them using up over 800mb of memory causing the server to swap. As a result I am hoping to setup something like bluepill on the server but I'm slightly confused as to how you go about doing it. Mainly because bluepill expects to start/stop the processes it's monitoring. However, in our case, passenger already restarts processes for us so we only need to monitor the pids of passengers instances and kill them once they've gotten too large. Has anyone here setup BluePill to monitor a rails app running under phusion's passenger? Any insight would be useful.

  • Windows Server 2008 DNS - restart after changing forwarder?

    I had a dns forwarder configured that seems to be choking on a particular server name so I switched to using google's dns as a forwarder (8.8.4.4). When I change that setting in Windows DNS (Server 2008 R2) Do i need to restart the dns service for the change to take effect? I ask because i can do a nslookup on the name using 8.8.4.4 and it resolves but even with 8.8.4.4 in my forwarders list it will not resolve when i run nslookup on my local DNS server.

  • How to backup/restore OSX Parental Controls before/after complete reimage?

    We typically "nuke and pave" users Mac OSX laptops if they have software issue. Prior to doing so, we backup the primary (non-admin) user's home folder. Our standard image has four accounts: Admin (uber admin user); Parent (admin account for the parents of students); Loaner (so our standard image will also work for our loaner laptop pool); Student (this is the primary, non-admin user of the laptop) Our standard image has only minimal Parental controls on the Loaner and Student accounts. Some parents choose to tighten the parental controls. We never know when parents have made changes to parental controls, or what those changes are. Once we have reimaged the machine with our standard image (minimal parental controls) we would like to be able to restore any custom parental controls parents may have placed on their student's account. Any help in this would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Can I create directories that don't exist while creating a new file in emacs?

    In emacs, I create a file by visiting it with C-x C-f. Let's say I'd like to create /home/myself/new_directory/file.txt. If new_directory does not exist yet, is there a way to have it get created during the creation of file.txt without any extra steps? (I'm thinking of something like using the -p flag to mkdir in Linux.) I feel like there's a different keystroke instead of C-x C-f that can do this, but I can't remember what it is.

    I want to block all subnets outside the US. I've made a script that has all of the US subnets in it. I want to disallow or DROP all but my list. Can someone give me an example of how I can start by denying everything? I want to block ALL subnets and just open those inside the US.

    Hello. I am considering the purchase of some software (AutoCAD) that requires the CPU to support SSE2. My PC's CPU is an Intel® Core™ i5-650 Processor, which supports SSE4.2. Basically what I am wondering is if SSE4.2 is simply a newer version of SSE2, so that it would be fullly backwards compatible. Thanks.

    I have a 64 bit Ubuntu 9.10 workstation with two virtualized guest OSes using KVM/QEMU. Also both 64-bit. One is Fedora 12 the other is beta of Ubuntu 10.04. The problem is that I would like to use a larger size display that is configured by default. Both guest OSes have a maximum screen resolution of 1024x768. I would like to increase this to something like 1280x900 or 1440x900. The resolution of the host system is 1920x1080. This configuration appears to be a result of the installation detecting the resolution being reported by the virtual screen during installation. The only information I have found on the subject suggests modifying the xorg.conf file in the /etc/X11 directory. Neither guest system has this file. I tried creating one by hand in the Fedora system and managed to render it completely unusable. Not a big deal as this is recently installed and can be reinstalled easily. Is what I want to do possible? If so, how do I accomplish it?

  • Windows Server 2008 hangs up while booting

    Windows Server 2008 hangs up while booting after Windows update applied several updates. The server is a virtual instance on a Server 2008 Hyper-V host. Other virtual servers are fine, but have not been updated. The normal boot shows the horizontal barber poll forever. When I do a safe boot it also hangs up. With a "Please Wait..." after loading many '.sys' files. The last successfully loaded file listed is: '\Windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys' That is the extent of what I have been able to determine.

  • Linux Fiber Channel Host Setup Basic

    I've been googling for about 4 hours now with no luck. I am trying to setup a Linux server running Oracle Server 6.3 as a Fiber Channel host. And then connect it to a Dell Compellent Fibre Channel Host contain a 500GB Volume. The Oracle server itself contains two Brocade 815 FC HBAs. I've discovered their WWN(I think) via cat /sys/class/fc_host/host1/port_name 0x100000051efc3d85 cat /sys/class/fc_host/host2/port_name 0x100000051efc3d9f The next part is where I am at a loss. I've used iSCSI before...is FC the same deal where you have an initiator and a target? If so where do I specific that in linux? I'm also new to Fiber Channel as a protocol, so i am unsure what is needed to make a transaction? WWN and port ID? Similar to IP:Port combination in the Ethernet world. I've read alot regarding using systool, multipath, fc_transport commands, however none of these is recognized as a valid command from Oracle Server 6.3 Appreciate the guidance and assistance.   • Shopping for Fast USB Flash Drives

    I would like to pick up some really fast USB flash drives in the 16 - 64 GB range. When looking at drives they just list their size, their form factor (key chain hook, slider, etc.) and the fact that they are all Hi-Speed USB 2.0. It seems like I have heard that different drives have different performance and life expectancy. The sales guy tells me that they are all the same performance any more, but it wouldn't be the first time a sales guy had the wrong technical details.   • Minimum permissions needed to create a user Home Folder in Windows Active Directory

    We would like the Help Desk to have the responsibility of creating User Home folders instead of our 2nd level support. The help desk global group is already an Account Operator, so in Active Directory they are able to edit all User Attributes just fine. The problem is figuring out the minimum level of permissions needed on the File Server to create the home share, with out giving them access to everyone home share. So if they open AD Users and Computer, open the properties for a user, and enter \home\users\%username% in the profile tab and then click OK, they get the following error. The \home\users\username home folder was not created because you do not have create access on the server. The user account has been updated with the new home folder value but you must create the directory manually after obtaining the required access right. Right now I have given the Helpdesk group Full Control on the root folder only (no files or subdirectories) The directory is actually created, but the permissions on the newly created folder only show administrators full control, and no permissions for the configured user account. It sure sounds like I'd have to make the helpdesk local admins on the file servers, which is what I'd like to avoid. Especially since the file servers are a large cluster hosting much much more than the entire orgs home share structure.
